Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa, who became a single mother at 40 after two failed IVF attempts and a past marriage to fitness expert Maje Ayida that ended in divorce in 2016 has shared her approach to baby skincare, advising against daily baths for newborns to prevent potential skin issues.
As a first-time mom, Makinwa explained she’s learning on the go. She noted, “Babies are not dirty. They’ve been inside your womb for like nine months. Inside of your womb is not dirty.” Recalling her initial doubts about her sister’s routine, she adopted it after seeing positive results.
Makinwa emphasized infant skin fragility: “The skin has to shed; they have this baby’s skin that is literally fragile.” She recommends daily wipe-downs instead of full baths, allowing the skin to breathe.
For her daughter Yaya, baths started once a week with daily wipes, increasing to twice weekly at two months, and now three to four times a week. four to six months, she plans more frequent bathing.
Makinwa credited “Clean Beauty” products for Yaya’s healthy, spot-free skin, sharing the tip for new and expecting mothers.
