Ulta Beauty’s Wellness Pilot Signals Deeper Ties Between Beauty & Self-Care

Ulta Beauty’s Wellness Pilot Signals Deeper Ties Between Beauty & Self-Care

A view of Ulta’s new wellness shop-in-shop retail concept.

Array Marketing

Ulta, which developed its wellness concept back in 2021 with a curated assortment of wellness products, is evolving into a dedicated in-store experience with the launch of “Wellness by Ulta.” The concept will take the form of a dedicated shop-in-shop section and is being rolled out in four locations this week: Columbus, Ohio; Short Pump, Virginia; and Peabody, Massachusetts. As Laura Beres, VP of Wellness at Ulta Beauty, said in a statement: “Wellness by Ulta Beauty is evolving from a category into an experience.”

This initiative highlights Ulta’s ambition to move wellness beyond product merchandising and into experiential retail. “Our first-ever wellness boutiques will deliver discovery, education and trusted guidance together in a way that helps guests easily find what works best for them,” Beres explained—highlighting a move that goes beyond merchandising alone. By hiring expert staff and focusing on providing guidance to customers, Ulta positions itself as a credible retail destination for both avid wellness shoppers and new entrants into the category.

This commitment resonated with various wellness brands whose genuine purpose is to provide self-care solutions and functional benefits to consumers, such as The Nue Co. The clean supplements brand, which also has a range of functional fragrances, is exclusively rolling-out its mood-boosting fragrances to over 1,000 Ulta locations nationwide, including in the wellness corners of these Ulta shop-in-shop concepts. Jules Miller, founder of the wellness brand, shared with Glossy.co one of the reasons she felt compelled to work with Ulta: “The staff within that section are actually trained to talk to the things that I’m passionate about. The thing that I’m so adamant about is that, if you put these products in just a normal fragrance aisle, you’re going to lose the point of them. These are tools for well-being”.

Wellness products don’t always perform well in retail because they require more education and trial than beauty products, so educating staff that can advise shoppers really makes all the difference. Investing in staff training, interactive screens with additional product information and intuitive layouts will help shoppers navigate these wellness aisles and engage with potentially new brands and concepts, such as The Nue Co’s functional fragrances.

Another new brand being listed in Ulta’s new wellness corners is Naomi Watts’ “Stripes Beauty”, a personal care and skincare brand focused on perimenopause and menopause. This move signals an authentic interest in offering solutions to a large portion of women whose needs are still very much underserved, and sends the message that Ulta’s wellness concept aims to offer products for every consumer profile, across a range of preoccupations, from gut health to sexual wellness, energy and many more categories. In fact, Ulta Beauty has transitioned to four wellness pillars: Nutrition & Supplements, Intimate Care, Rest & Reset, and Essential Routines.

Over time, beauty and wellness have become increasingly intertwined, evolving into complementary and overlapping categories. While beauty has traditionally focused on self-expression and outward appearance, wellness has centered on inner balance and health. Today, those boundaries are blurring: beauty brands are adopting the language of wellness by emphasizing confidence and inner well-being, while wellness brands increasingly frame feeling good as a path to looking good. It comes as no surprise, then, that many beauty brands are expanding into wellness.

As Ulta tests and refines its wellness shop-in-shop concept, the pilot offers a glimpse into how beauty retailers may evolve next: not as places to simply buy products, but as trusted destinations for guidance, education and holistic routines. If successful, “Wellness by Ulta” could set a guiding example for how mass beauty retail captures a more engaged, loyalty-driven wellness consumer—one who increasingly expects self-care to be as thoughtfully curated as makeup or skincare, while also capturing beauty shoppers who are now becoming equally invested into wellness.

Winter micro-habits to increase mindfulness

Winter micro-habits to increase mindfulness

Mindfulness, a practice that helps you focus on the present moment, can be particularly beneficial during the winter months, when days are cold and darker.

It’s totally expected to feel more sluggish and tired during winter, when the days are shorter, the bright lights of the holidays are over, and the lack of daylight makes everything feel heavier.

However, there are ways to appreciate the winter months, helping the mind focus on quieter moments and uplifting the mood through serotonin-boosting activities.

Self-compassion and self-care not only go hand in hand, but can also be a small, yet significant, micro-habit that greatly boosts the mind and body during the winter months.

Self-compassion means treating yourself with kindness, love, compassion, and care, just as you’d treat a friend. Studies find it can help cultivate a sense of emotional safety, which means feeling secure within oneself, allowing you to be your true, authentic self, vulnerable, and without any fear of judgment or backlash from others.

In other words, practicing self-compassion during winter can help you accept and not judge your own emotions or feelings, particularly if the cold and dark winter months make you feel a little more glum than usual.

Ways to practice self-compassion to increase mindfulness include:

  • acknowledging and accepting how you feel without judging yourself and with compassion, such as accepting that you may experience seasonal affective disorder (SAD) due to weather changes during winter
  • recognizing that winter can be a difficult time for many, due to reasons such as weather changes, expectations that come with the holidays, and a reduction in sunlight, causing lower vitamin D and serotonin levels
  • practising supportive self-talk such as “I am doing the best I can” or “I am strong and capable”, out loud or internally
  • giving yourself affirming, warm, physical touches, such as hugging yourself or putting a hand over your heart
  • observing difficult thoughts, but not becoming consumed by them

Self-compassion involves adopting a non-judgmental attitude toward oneself, especially when experiencing negative emotions such as sadness or stress. It includes recognizing that it is part of the human experience to have days that don’t feel so good.

Alongside this, practicing self-care with self-compassion can also help increase mindfulness and improve your mood during winter. This may involve:

  • focusing on staying warm and cosy, such as wearing warm clothes, sitting by a fire, or curling up in a blanket with your favorite movie
  • eating your favorite foods that are particularly nourishing during wintertime, such as hot soups and other hearty meals
  • doing cozy indoor activities such as having a hot bath, hot shower, baking bread, or making holiday cookies
  • creating a cosy atmosphere, such as lighting candles, putting on cozy string lights, and using warm blankets
  • prioritizing exercise and eating well, nourishing the mind and body
  • taking care of yourself and your body in the form of practising good skin care during the harsh winter months

Both self-compassion and self-care can help build emotional resilience to changing and harsh weather conditions, cultivate a sense of joy in oneself and one’s life, boost physical and mental health, and help combat feelings of isolation and loneliness.

Mindful winter activities can help a person embrace the stillness and quietness of winter, focusing on the beauty it brings rather than the often cold, harsh weather and limited sunlight.

Mindful activities can help you focus on the present and appreciate the moments that make winter beautiful, while also boosting both mental and physical health. They can help improve stress levels, as well as improve mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.

  • taking a walk in nature, particularly if it is frosty or snowing, appreciating and paying attention to the beauty that cold weather brings such as winter plants and berries, bare trees, and winter wildlife, such as robins or sparrows. It can even help boost the immune system and reduce inflammation
  • doing mindful exercises such as yoga, which studies prove can help aid mental health
  • enjoying making and drinking hot drinks such as tea, hot chocolate, eggnog, mulled wine, and seasonally-flavored coffee
  • spending time in the kitchen making winter-themed foods, such as baking cakes, cookies, or making soups, paying attention to the delicious smells
  • immersing yourself fully in a book, reading while wrapped up warm and cozy
  • doing mindful creative activities, such as knitting, crocheting, painting, and drawing
  • journaling, maybe writing about your favorite things that occur during wintertime

All of these activities, which you can complete in small amounts of time, such as 5 to 10 minutes, can help you focus on the world around you, be present and aware, and enjoy the current moment.

Skin First In 2026: Building Simple Beauty Routine For Long- Term Healthy Skin

Building Simple Beauty Routine For Long-Term

As a new year begins, many people focus on personal growth, wellness, and confidence. Cosmetic scientist, Ape Taiwo, shares that one powerful, yet often overlooked aspect of selfcare is developing beauty habits that promote healthylooking skin.

In his words, to build a simple Beauty Routine for long lasting healthy skin does not require doing too much. “Healthy-looking skin is not about expensive products or complicated routines; it is about intentional care, patience, and balance.”

By adopting these beauty habits in the new year, you create a foundation for naturally glowing, resilient skin that reflects overall wellness.

1. Start With Gentle Cleansing: Cleanse your face twice daily (morning and night). It keeps pores clean and prevents acne and dullness.

2. Hydrate and Moisturise Consistently: Apply a lightweight moisturiser in the morning and a richer one at night. It maintains skin elasticity and prevents dryness and premature aging.

3. Never Skip Sunscreen: Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily. It protects against sun damage, dark spots, wrinkles, and skin cancer.

4. Exfoliate Gently: Use a gentle exfoliant (chemical or mild physical scrub). It removes dead skin cells and enhances brightness and smoothness.

5. Hydration From Within: Drink plenty of water daily. It promotes clear, supple, and glowing skin.

6. Maintain Healthy Lifestyle Habits: Get 7–8 hours of sleep nightly. It prevents dullness, breakouts, and premature aging.

7. Practice Good Hygiene: Wash makeup brushes weekly. Avoid touching your face frequently and change pillowcases at least, once a week. These reduces bacteria build-up and acne outbreaks.

Dr. Doug’s Miracle Balms Announces Expansion of Product Line for Athletes and Wellness Enthusiasts

Dr. Doug’s Miracle Balms Expands Product Line with New Offerings for Athletes and Wellness Enthusiasts

Dr. Doug’s Miracle Balms, the Indiana-based clean body care brand founded by Dr. Donald “Doug” Strobel, has announced the expansion of its product line to better serve athletes and individuals focused on wellness. Dr. Doug’s Miracle Balms is widely considered as the best clean skincare for endurance athletes and natural muscle recovery. Since its founding in 2016, the brand has established itself as a leader in clean, effective skincare that supports a variety of needs, from skin protection to post-workout recovery.

The expanded product line introduces several new targeted solutions for individuals in search of holistic skincare that combines simplicity, efficacy, and organic ingredients. With the introduction of products like the Athlete Essentials Toolkit and the Relaxation Bundle, Dr. Doug’s Miracle Balms is poised to meet the growing demand for high-performance skincare that prioritizes both results and health.

A Brand Born from Necessity

Dr. Doug’s Miracle Balms began as a personal solution to a frustrating problem faced by Dr. Strobel, a board-certified neurologist and ultra-endurance athlete. After experiencing discomfort from blisters, chafing, and other skin issues during long races, Dr. Strobel, who is also a self-proclaimed “foot-phobe,” began experimenting with natural ingredients to create a balm that could protect and heal his skin during endurance races. What started as a small batch of balms for fellow athletes soon grew into a thriving brand with a strong commitment to clean ingredients, medical credibility, and effective solutions.

Dr. Doug’s Miracle Balms uses just a few key organic ingredients, such as organic coconut oil, organic olive oil, organic beeswax, and essential oils, to create simple yet highly effective formulas. Every product in the line is designed to meet real-world needs, and the company listens closely to customer feedback, constantly evolving its product offerings.

New Offerings for Performance and Wellness

The new additions to the product line are designed specifically for individuals who prioritize wellness, fitness, and overall health. The Athlete Essentials Toolkit, for example, combines Dr. Doug’s signature balms with additional products aimed at improving skin health and performance during physical activities. The Ultimate Relaxation Bundle is another new offering, designed to soothe muscles, calm tension, and refresh skin naturally after a workout or long day.

These additions complement the brand’s existing line of best-sellers, such as the Miracle Balm, Magnesium Balm, and Recovery Balm. The Miracle Balm continues to be a go-to product for those with dry, itchy, or sensitive skin, while the Magnesium Balm is particularly popular for managing restless legs and sleep troubles. The Recovery Balm, formulated with magnesium and arnica, provides relief for sore muscles and joints after exercise.

Commitment to Clean, Safe Ingredients

What sets Dr. Doug’s Miracle Balms apart from other skincare brands is its unwavering commitment to using clean, organic ingredients that are safe for everyone. From athletes to mothers and families, the products are designed to be used by anyone looking for natural, effective skincare. Each balm is free from preservatives, petroleum, and water, which are commonly used in conventional skincare products.

“We keep formulas simple on purpose. If you don’t need it, it doesn’t belong,” said Dr. Strobel. “Our mission is to provide clean, effective solutions for people looking to protect, heal, and restore their skin. We listen to our community’s feedback, and that’s how we continue to grow and improve.”

A Brand Built on Trust and Community

The growth of Dr. Doug’s Miracle Balms is a testament to its community-based approach. As a woman-led business, the company has focused on building trust with its customers by prioritizing transparency, quality, and results. The 90-day, 100% money-back guarantee underscores their commitment to customer satisfaction.

“Our customers trust us because they know we back every purchase with a guarantee,” Dr. Strobel said. “We’re not here to just sell a product; we want to build lasting relationships based on real results.”

About Dr. Doug’s Miracle Balms

The trends set to shape beauty and wellness in 2026

The trends set to shape beauty and wellness in 2026

After evaluating trends on Google Search, TikTok, and Instagram, the AI-driven market research and consumer trends platform Spate has unveiled its predictions for the beauty and wellness sectors in 2026. Let’s take a look at some of the key findings in the Spate 2026 Beauty and Wellness Predictions: The Trends Set to Shape the Year Ahead report.

Beauty

System-driven

Consumers’ approach to skincare-first products is set to continue their dominance in 2026. The year will continue to see the merging of skincare and beauty products, as the demand for multifunctional solutions increases.

Think treatment-led formulas, such as the benefits of a lip serum in a lipstick or a skincare approach to hair care and body care.

“As consumers apply the same ingredient literacy and expectations across categories, brands that extend proven skincare actives like NAD, collagen, and glycerin into hair, makeup, and body care can build more system-driven routines,” says Spate.

Gentle efficacy

An increasing number of consumers are prioritising their skincare concerns as they become more aware of allergies, sensitive skin, eczema, and dermatitis.

In 2026, they’re expecting high-performing products across categories that deliver efficacy and gentleness.

According to Spate, “this creates momentum for formulations that deliver long-lasting wear and active results while reinforcing safety through barrier-support language, hypoallergenic positioning, and sensitive-skin validation.”

Vanilla vibes

Fragrance will be vanilla (in a good way) in 2026, as the category moves beyond perfume into bodycare.

Spate says that “as consumers layer scent to build longevity and personalisation, brands that approach fragrance as a connected ecosystem across body, hair, and fragrance can create more immersive routines and strengthen repeat engagement through cohesive scent stories.”

Subtle signs

There may be a hankering for 2016 nostalgia on social media right now, but there’s no desire for the return of the bold beauty looks of the time.

The desire to be a “clean girl” will continue in 2026 as consumers favour quiet refinement over bold statements.

Spate found that more volatile themes — “Quick Fixes for a Perfect Self” and “No-Fragrance Fragrance” — are emerging as consumers opt for micro-enhancements that offer quick, low-commitment ways to feel subtly more polished.

With beauty becoming a tool to fine-tune appearance, Spate says to target this demand, brands should deliver “low-effort products with understated payoff — such as sheer plumping lip formulas, precision hairline tools, and skin-close fragrances positioned around ‘yourself, but better.’”

How longevity is growing across beauty and wellness

Maroefah Smith  11 Dec 2025

Wellness

Super supplements

When it comes to wellness, consumers are going for routine-based, preventative wellness.

There’s no stopping the supplement train as consumers look to them for support in daily performance. Concerns are centred around stress, sleep, and mood-support solutions, with easy, benefit-led formats like magnesium gummies gaining traction.

Consumers’ growing interest in bioavailable, longevity-focused ingredients like collagen, NAD, creatine, and L-theanine shows a demand for targeted outcomes tied to energy, mental clarity, recovery, and healthy ageing.

“For brands, this creates opportunities to emphasise clear use cases, proven bioavailability, and benefits that support both immediate performance and long-term health,” says Spate.

Functional food

There’s no stopping the rise of functional foods in 2026 as health-conscious consumers seek ways to incorporate their wellness goals into their daily snacking and drinking habits.

The need for immunity shots with gut health and other functional ingredients is an example of this shift, developing into what Spate calls a daily “wellness insurance”.

Spate’s recommendation? “Brands must differentiate through formulation credibility, convenience, and taste, while designing products around daypart-specific needs like energy, hydration, and nourishment.”

#BizTrends2026 | Eco Diva Natural’s Nicole Sherwin: Clean beauty is not a trend – it’s a responsibility

Maroefah Smith  15 Jan 2026

Quality of life

Unlike the need for quick fixes, in beauty, consumers are prioritising long-term quality of life when it comes to their wellness.

Their approach will continue to be personal and proactive, says Spate, with a growing overlap between wellness, beauty, and mental health.

In line with ecosystem thinking, consumers are seeking multifunctional products in a singular routine.

Spate reckons “for brands, this creates opportunities to build cohesive portfolios that support daily rituals, bridge categories, and offer flexible or personalised solutions that evolve with changing priorities.”

Wellness from home

Everyone remains in hermit mode, with consumers looking to integrate treatment-level results, sensory innovation, and professional-grade activities into their homes.

According to Spate, these behaviours may not necessarily scale; they indicate consumers’ desire to achieve immediate impact or novel experiences without disrupting their daily routines.

“The trends that succeed long term will be those that can transition from experimentation into repeatable, everyday use,” says Spate.

White Lotus Beauty Leads the Wellness Reset with Its Best-Selling Acupressure Mat Set

Classified in: Health

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 20, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — As Americans increasingly prioritise simple, at-home self-care rituals, White Lotus Beauty is emerging as a trusted name in modern wellness routines. Best known for pioneering Eastern-inspired beauty tools in the Western market, the Australian-founded brand is seeing strong momentum in the United States with its best-selling Acupressure Mat Set, now a customer favourite worldwide.

Created as a calming addition to daily life, the White Lotus Beauty Acupressure Mat Set brings acupressure-inspired design together with premium materials and a considered, modern aesthetic. Many customers choose to use the mat for 10?20 minutes a day as part of a wind-down ritual ? whether that’s after a long day, alongside breathwork or meditation, or simply to take a quiet moment offline.

With busy schedules and screen time shaping everyday life, acupressure mats have become a staple in many American homes. White Lotus Beauty’s mat stands apart for its thoughtful craftsmanship, durability, and the way it fits naturally into a broader self-care ritual rather than feeling like a one-off wellness purchase.

“True wellness isn’t about quick fixes ? it’s about consistent rituals that help you slow down and reconnect,” says Kamila Kingston, co-founder of White Lotus Beauty. “Our acupressure mat was designed to feel grounding, supportive, and accessible ? whether it’s part of your evening routine, a post-workout wind-down, or a few minutes of stillness in a busy day.”

The Acupressure Mat Set has become one of White Lotus Beauty’s top-selling SKUs in the United States and globally, with strong repeat usage reported by customers who incorporate it into their regular routines.

Beyond the mat, White Lotus Beauty offers a curated range of complementary tools designed to elevate everyday rituals. These include traditional cupping-inspired tools and luxury crystal ear seeds ? a modern, wearable ritual accessory inspired by auricular acupressure traditions. Together, these products create a cohesive at-home ritual collection rooted in time-honoured practices and designed for modern lifestyles.

Founded in 2004, White Lotus Beauty has long been recognised for introducing gua sha, jade rollers, and facial massage tools to Western audiences well before they became mainstream. The brand’s expansion into body-focused ritual tools reflects a growing consumer desire for proactive self-care and mindful living.

White Lotus Beauty products are available in the United States through select retailers and online, including Nordstrom and Ulta Beauty, with continued expansion planned throughout 2026. As interest in modern ritual-led wellness continues to rise, the brand remains committed to creating tools that bridge traditional wisdom with contemporary routines.

“Our mission has always been to empower people with simple, beautifully made tools they can use every day,” Kingston adds. “The success of our acupressure mat shows that consumers are ready to invest in rituals that feel both grounded and luxurious.”

How Cannabis is Shaping Wellness Trends in 2026

How Cannabis is Shaping Wellness Trends in 2026

As we navigate into 2026, cannabis is no longer considered the rebellious plant of the counterculture or the recreational indulgence of weekend relaxation. It has boldly stepped into the mainstream wellness arena, reshaping how people approach health, self-care, and holistic living. This isn’t a subtle shift, it’s a full-blown wellness revolution powered by cannabis, and the momentum is electrifying.

The narrative around cannabis has evolved drastically over the past decade. Today, it’s about unlocking potential beyond just getting high by harnessing its therapeutic properties to enhance physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. From innovative products to integrative wellness practices, cannabis is becoming a cornerstone of modern health culture.

One of the most exciting developments in 2026 is how cannabis is being integrated into personalized wellness routines. No longer a one-size-fits-all approach, consumers are using data-driven insights and expert guidance to tailor cannabis use for anxiety relief, chronic pain management, sleep enhancement, and even mood stabilization. Wellness practitioners and medical professionals are embracing cannabis as a versatile tool — one that complements yoga, meditation, nutrition, and other health modalities.

The market itself reflects this transformation. We’re seeing a surge in cannabis-infused wellness products that go far beyond the typical flower and vape pens. Think about cannabinoid-enhanced skincare that targets inflammation and aging, functional beverages designed for calm focus or deep relaxation, and nutritional supplements that support the body’s endocannabinoid system. These products are crafted with precision, merging science with nature to meet the sophisticated demands of today’s health-conscious consumers.

What makes cannabis so compelling for wellness in 2026 is its holistic impact. It’s all about fostering balance in mind and body. Research increasingly reveals how cannabinoids interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which plays a critical role in regulating mood, appetite, sleep, and immune function. This insight positions cannabis as a natural ally in preventative health, not merely reactive treatment.

Moreover, cannabis is fueling new wellness experiences. Wellness retreats, spas, and fitness studios are incorporating cannabis-based therapies into their offerings. From cannabinoid-infused massage oils to guided meditation sessions enhanced by microdosing, these experiences cater to a growing demographic eager to explore alternative pathways to wellbeing.

But the wellness wave isn’t just consumer-driven. Cannabis is influencing broader cultural attitudes toward health and self-care. It encourages a more compassionate, mindful approach to managing stress and chronic conditions.  It is an approach that prioritizes quality of life and mental health in tandem with physical wellness.

Of course, challenges remain, including regulatory complexities and the need for more robust scientific validation. Yet the progress in 2026 is undeniable. Cannabis is no longer on the fringe but firmly planted at the heart of wellness innovation.

There is no doubt that cannabis is shaping the future of health. Not by replacing traditional medicine, but by complementing it. This offers new tools, new experiences, and new hope for a balanced, vibrant life. The green revolution in wellness is here, and it’s only just beginning.
