Will Skincare Routines In 2026 Belong To The ‘Less but Smarter’ Movement? | Beauty News

The rise of minimalism in skincare is about finding a few good, clean products that can give you results without having a shelf full of half-used bottles.

Everyone is searching for that one product to do it all

Who remembers the time when women were fed the narrative that to achieve glowing skin that looked like glass or a doll, whichever you preferred, meant having a multi-step routine that had you spending over half an hour in the bathroom? Well, the era of those 10-, 12- or 15-step routines is giving way to a new kind of luxury: selective, intelligent and quietly effective.

Rachna Bahadur, founder of Flout, says, “If you pay attention to how people talk about skincare now – the sighs, confessions about abandoned routines, bewilderment of mature beginners who know they should start but cannot see through the clutter – you can feel a shift. The era of proudly layering products has lost its charm. What people want today is not more steps but skincare that feels intuitive and actually delivers on its promise.” This shift is less about trends and more about how modern consumers live and their idea of luxury that’s evolved.

Luxury Has Quietly Redefined Itself

For a long time, the belief in India and the world was that more steps in your skincare routine equal more care. But like every idea of luxury, this too has evolved. It mirrors shifts across culture: quiet luxury in fashion, intentional wellness, edited wardrobes, and simplified home aesthetics.

In skincare, that translates into a desire for products that do not demand attention but reward them. People no longer want 45-minute routines. They want the assurance that their two or three thoughtfully chosen steps are doing the work of ten.

The rise of single-ingredient skincare was important, Rachna shares, “It taught consumers the language of actives, created a new standard for transparency and forced brands to step out from behind vague claims. It empowered people to understand what they were applying to their skin.”

But what began as clarity soon turned into clutter. Too many actives, too many percentages, too many rules about what could or could not be layered. What excited enthusiasts often left beginners intimidated, and even confident users found themselves managing routines that resembled chemistry sets.

Sustainability begins with reduced consumption

Now, what people want is to skip the five clean serums and find one exceptional product that gives results and is something you can use every time. From a shelf of half-used bottles, a select few that earn loyalty. This is modern practicality that includes a routine with fewer, higher-performing steps and creates less waste, lowers environmental burden and reflects a more evolved way of engaging with beauty.

The last decade of skincare was defined by ‘more’: more actives, more steps, more promises. The next decade will belong to ideas that honour clarity over clutter, efficacy over excess and intention over impulse.

‘Less but smarter’ is not about shrinking routines for the aesthetic of minimalism. It is about elevating them with science, sensoriality and purpose. The future of skincare is not what fills your shelf, but what earns its place on it.

Santa Barbara, Calif. (11/18/2025) – Wellness doesn’t always start with a gym or a goal. Sometimes, it starts with someone showing up at your door. Expond has launched Wellness Walks, an on-demand service that pairs Santa Barbara locals with trusted wellness providers for safe, guided walks focused on movement, conversation, and human connection.

Even in a city known for sunshine and beauty, many residents spend most of their time indoors, working, recovering, or simply feeling stuck. That feeling can become even harder during the holiday season, when routines slow down and social connections fade. Wellness Walks is designed to help ease those holiday blues by giving people a simple way to get outside, move, and reconnect.

“We built Wellness Walks to make it easy for people to move again and feel connected,” said Jason Baker, founder of Expond. “It’s simple, but a friendly face at your door and a safe walk outside changes everything.”

Each Wellness Walk begins at the client’s home or a nearby location and lasts up to 45 minutes. All Expond providers are vetted professionals such as yoga instructors, massage therapists, personal trainers, and sound healers who share one thing in common: they love people.

Wellness Walks offers a welcoming, community-based way for people to move more and feel more connected. The California Department of Aging reports that nearly 40 percent of older adults experience loneliness or isolation, and walking with someone you trust can be one of the simplest ways to lift mood and improve well-being.

Expond hopes the program will inspire small yet meaningful changes in people’s routines, one step, one walk, and one conversation at a time.

Wellness Walks is now available across Santa Barbara. To learn more or to schedule a walk, visit goexpond.com/walk.

About Expond

TikTok ‘no-makeup movement’ trend rises in popularity

TikTok ‘no-makeup movement’ trend rises in popularity

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – From Hollywood red carpets to TikTok trends, more women are saying goodbye to glam and hello to authenticity. The no-makeup movement is redefining beauty, celebrating natural skin, self-confidence, and the power of being real.

This trend has been an off and on occurrence since the 2010s, but currently, it has somewhat evolved into a full-blown beauty philosophy, prioritizing authenticity and age diversity, but for some beauty lovers, they just can’t conceal their devotion to makeup.

Makeup dates back thousands of years, but after centuries of coloring and contouring.

“I cannot live without my foundation, my powder, and my bronzer. I love my bronzer because I’m so pale, so I have to put on some color,” Bank Teller Gracie Justus said.

Today’s trend is turning: people are putting the brushes down and going natural.

“A lot of people are moving towards preserving their skin, and to take care of their skin versus covering it with makeup and things like that,” Cosmetology & Barber Instructor at Vernon College Elisha Wehrweine said.

But some community members won’t shadow their love for the glam.

“Um, yeah, you’ll never see me without makeup,” Justus said.

In 2024, between 40 to 60 percent of women reported wearing makeup.

“I choose to wear makeup because I think it just makes me feel more professional and more put together. I am kind of the face of the bank when people walk in, they see me first. So, I like to at least look a little put together,” Justus said.

Women in broadcast, luxury retail, hospitality, and personal appearance are most likely to carry makeup.

“A lot of the higher-profile people are starting to move towards the natural. Like they may emphasize a lip, they make emphasize their eyes, but they’re not sculpting their face with highlighter, bronzer,” Wehrweine said.

Women who’ve brushed off old beauty rules are leaning toward SPF, Vitamin C, retinols, and exfoliants.

“People are more aware of what’s in the air with pollution and what’s in products,” she added.

“I say do whatever makes you comfortable. If makeup is your thing, go for it. If not, that’s fine too. You don’t have to wear makeup to look professional,” Justus said.

Whether the no-makeup trend comes or goes, every woman deserves to blush with confidence and feel beautiful on her own terms.

“In the end, it’s really pushing that person to feel beautiful and love themselves. So, if wearing makeup, even if it’s full glam, or just a little bit, or none at all. If they feel beautiful in their own skin and that’s what they need for those products or not those products, then that’s what they deserve,” Wehrweine said.

Experts share the best way to keep your skin healthy, makeup or no makeup, is daily care plus regular check-ins with a dermatologist, ideally once a year. After all, glowing skin starts with good habits.
