Homemade Greek Seasoning

One of the best ways to make healthy eating easy is to keep some homemade staples on hand. Simple DIY spice blends and sauces take very little effort but they can make meals so much more flavorful. This Greek seasoning is one staple I like to keep in the pantry!

Many pre-made seasoning blends use fillers, preservatives, added sugars, or ingredients I wouldn’t use in my kitchen. Making your own is so simple and you can choose exactly what you use (and don’t). Plus the DIY versions often taste better than what’s been sitting on a store shelf for months.

What Is Greek Seasoning?

Greek seasoning is a flavorful Mediterranean-inspired blend of herbs traditionally used to add depth to meats, vegetables, sauces, and marinades. It combines classic Greek flavors like oregano, basil, dill, garlic, and rosemary. The result is a savory seasoning that works in a variety of recipes.

Oregano is one of the most popular Greek flavors and adds a pungent taste (it’s not just for Italian seasoning!). Then I add herbs like basil, parsley, dill, thyme, and rosemary to hit all the flavor notes. Garlic and onion powder bring that savory base that makes this blend so versatile, while a touch of cinnamon adds some warmth.

It’s also an easy way to include a wide variety of micronutrients, antioxidants, and anti-microbial compounds into everyday meals. People have used herbs for thousands of years not only to make dishes taste good, but because they support overall wellness.

Why You Should Make Your Own Seasonings

I started making more of my own pantry staples because it’s an easy way to simplify ingredients without sacrificing flavor. And with 7 kids now, it’s cheaper to buy in bulk and mix it yourself! Seasoning blends are one of the easiest swaps because they take only a few minutes to make and last for months.

This Greek seasoning is one of those recipes that’s become a kitchen staple. I love having a jar ready because it instantly upgrades simple meals. A plain chicken breast, roasted vegetables, or even a basic salad instantly gets a flavor upgrade with homemade seasoning.

It’s also easy to customize. If you love garlic, you can add more. If you prefer a stronger herb flavor, adjust the amounts of oregano, basil, or dill. Homemade recipes are flexible, which is one of the best parts of cooking from scratch.

How to Use Greek Seasoning

This seasoning is so versatile and works well with both quick weeknight meals and more involved recipes. Sprinkle it over chicken before grilling, mix it into burger patties, or use it to season roasted vegetables like zucchini, squash, or asparagus.

One of my favorite ways? Toss some diced potatoes with olive oil, salt, and Greek seasoning then roast. The herbs create a crispy, savory coating that rivals any restaurant dish.

You can also mix it into homemade salad dressings, sprinkle it over eggs, or stir it into Greek yogurt for a quick and easy dip. It’s a great way to add flavor without needing complicated sauces or extra ingredients.

For an easy meal prep option, try this blend as the base for a simple Greek chicken marinade. Combine Greek seasoning with olive oil and fresh lemon juice, then marinate chicken before grilling. The result is tender, flavorful chicken with a bright Mediterranean flavor.

Here’s how to make it!

greek yogurt bagels

High Protein Greek Yogurt Bagels (Perfect For Breakfast!)

My kids are old enough that they can make their own breakfast now, but we still enjoy eating together as a family. Learning how to cook is a great skill for kids to learn that benefits the whole family! These simple Greek yogurt bagels are easy enough that even kids can make them, and they’re perfect for a quick breakfast.

Bagels are one of those foods on store shelves that are stuffed full of artificial ingredients. And if you’re lucky enough to have a made-from-scratch artisan bagel shop near you, they can get pricey. Homemade bagels give you the option of having great taste with high quality ingredients. And they taste so much better!

Greek Yogurt Bagel Ingredients

We don’t eat a ton of grains in our house, but I’ve incorporated some organic grains into my diet. Some Greek yogurt bagel recipes are made with bread flour or with almond flour. This particular recipe uses Einkorn flour. It’s naturally a little higher in protein and lower in carbs than modern, hybridized wheat.

You can buy Einkorn online, but many health food stores and grocery stores sell it too. If you don’t have any, then regular organic, all-purpose flour will also work. And if you need a gluten-free bagel option, then go with your favorite gluten-free flour blend.

Regular bagels are made with yeast to give them some rise. These are much faster to make since they skip the yeast and the rising time. Greek yogurt is naturally acidic and reacts with the baking powder to give the dough that familiar bagel texture.

I use an egg wash on top to give the bagels a better texture and color. However, if you need to avoid eggs, you can omit them and make the bagels without.

How To Use Greek Yogurt Bagels

Greek yogurt bagels are really easy to whip up, but I’ll often make a batch the night before. Try them along with breakfast or as part of a breakfast sandwich. We like toasting them for sandwiches or eating them slathered with some grass-fed butter or cream cheese.

They also make great BLTs, sausage egg and cheese sandwiches, or try some sliced meat, cheese, and lettuce for lunch. My kids like these so much, they were all gone before they had even cooled!

Greek Yogurt Bagel Recipe

These delicious bagels are simple and quick to make. Great for sandwiches, breakfast, or slathered with cream cheese.

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  • Add in the Greek yogurt and mix with a fork until crumbly.

  • Knead with your hands until it forms a smooth dough (about 1–2 minutes).

  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface.

  • Divide into 6 equal pieces. Each should weigh roughly 120–130 grams for full-size bagels.

  • Roll each piece into a 7–8 inch rope and connect the ends to form a bagel shape.

  • Place on the baking sheet and brush with the beaten egg for shine and browning.

  • Bake for 22–26 minutes, or until golden and puffed. Optional: Broil for 1–2 minutes for extra color.

  • Let cool for at least 10 minutes. This helps the bagels finish setting and improves the texture.

  • If the dough is too sticky, add 1–2 tablespoons of flour while kneading. If it’s dry, add 1 tablespoon of yogurt at a time.

Different Bagel Flavor Options

You can really play with the base recipe and make lots of different bagel flavors. Here are some of our favorites!

  • Everything Bagel – Sprinkle everything seasoning on top before baking.
  • Cinnamon Raisin – Add 1 TBSP coconut sugar, ½ tsp cinnamon, and  ? cup raisins to the dough.
  • Garlic & Herb – Add 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning and  ½ tsp garlic powder.
  • Cheddar Chive – Fold in ½ cup shredded cheese and 1 tbsp chopped chives.
  • Jalapeño Cheddar – Fold in 1–2 finely diced jalapeños (seeds optional)  and ½ cup shredded cheddar.

What Kind of Yogurt Should I Use?

Greek yogurt is naturally thicker and higher in protein than regular yogurt. I prefer to use whole milk or full-fat Greek yogurt in these to give the dough a better texture. You can use no-fat or 2% Greek yogurt, but the dough won’t be quite as good

How Much Protein is in Greek Yogurt Bagels?

The protein content is a little over 11 grams of protein per bagel if you use organic or Einkorn flour. Gluten-free flour blends will vary in their protein content. Einkorn is also naturally lower in carbs than the typical, modern wheat flour.

Cooking and Storage Tips

These bake in the oven in about 22-26 minutes. You can also use the air fryer and cook them at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes or just until they start to turn golden brown.

Their shelf life is about 3 days when stored in an airtight container. They also taste just as good the next day and you can freeze them for later.

Homemade Protein Cinnamon Rolls Recipe (With Greek Yogurt)

There’s something so magical about pulling some warm cinnamon rolls from the oven on a chilly morning. These high protein cinnamon rolls are an easy way to get all the magic, without all of the sugar or junky ingredients. My kids love these and because they have no yeast, they’re ready in less than an hour!

More people are focusing on protein now because of its benefits for building and maintaining muscle. You’ll find plenty of new protein bars on the market in tons of flavors and more brands are adding protein to various foods. While I’m all for more protein, the quality matters. Ingredients like GMO soy protein or whey protein from CAFO cattle may do more harm than good.

While we’re probably a ways off from buying healthy high protein cinnamon rolls in a tube at the grocery store, you can easily make them at home!

Healthy Cinnamon Rolls

So, are cinnamon rolls healthy? They’re certainly not in the same category as pasture raised meats or organic veggies, but it is possible to make a healthier version of cinnamon rolls. Instead of gobs of sugar these protein cinnamon rolls are naturally sweetened with coconut sugar and raw honey. No sugar cinnamon roll recipes usually call for sugar alcohols that can cause digestive issues for many people. That’s not what you’ll find here, but they’re still mildly sweet and absolutely delicious.

Protein Cinnamon Roll Ingredients

Now that my Hashimotos is gone and I’m able to eat a wider variety of healthy foods, I’ll eat gluten on occasion. I still avoid bleached, enriched, glyphosate sprayed conventional flour, but sometimes I pull out organic flour for baking. You can easily make these protein cinnamon rolls gluten free though with a gluten free flour blend. Just be sure to choose one that has clean ingredients, like this one.

Greek yogurt is one of the main ingredients in the creamy frosting and to gives the rolls a protein boost. If you need dairy free, then a really thick coconut milk yogurt could work, but I haven’t personally tried it.

Instead of making cottage cheese or whey protein cinnamon rolls, I used a different version of protein for these. I used Equip Prime protein which is made from beef protein, collagen, and gelatin. It’s a nose to tail protein source, but it’s not gritty or beefy tasting. If you don’t have any on hand, then collagen powder will also work.

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, protein powder, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and coconut sugar.

  • Add the Greek yogurt and melted coconut oil, then stir until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels too dry, add milk or water a tablespoon at a time until it comes together.

  • Knead gently on a floured surface for 1–2 minutes, just until smooth.

  • Roll the dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick. Spread softened butter evenly over the surface.

  • In a small bowl, mix the coconut sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the dough.

  • Roll it up tightly into a log and slice into 8 even rolls.

  • Place the rolls in a greased 8×8-inch baking dish or parchment-lined skillet. Bake at 350°F for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool slightly before frosting.

  • In a medium bowl or stand mixer bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add Greek yogurt, honey, vanilla, salt, and (optional) protein powder. Mix until thick and creamy. Spread generously over the warm, but not hot rolls.

These taste so good when they’re still slightly warm and fresh from the oven. If you know you’re not going to eat them right away, then save the frosting for right before serving. Store any leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
