Inside Zolie Skin Clinic: How Dr. Nirupama Parwanda Is Elevating Dermatology Care in New Delhi

How Dr. Nirupama Parwanda Is Elevating Dermatology Care in New Delhi

Others Specials

New Delhi [India], March 20: In today’s world, where skincare advice is everywhere—from social media trends to countless beauty products—many people are beginning to realize that healthy skin is not simply about cosmetics. It requires professional understanding, medical expertise, and treatments tailored to individual skin conditions. This growing awareness has led more individuals to seek guidance from qualified dermatologists rather than relying solely on over-the-counter solutions.

In South Delhi, one clinic that has steadily built a reputation for delivering medically supervised skincare solutions is Zolie Skin Clinic, founded and led by Dr. Nirupama Parwanda, a certified dermatologist known for her patient-focused approach to skin health and aesthetic treatments.

A Dermatology-First Approach to Skin Care

Unlike many aesthetic centers that focus purely on cosmetic procedures, Zolie Skin Clinic emphasizes a dermatology-led approach to skincare. Every treatment and procedure at the clinic is performed under the supervision of trained and certified dermatologists, ensuring that patient safety and clinical accuracy remain the top priorities.

For Dr. Nirupama Parwanda, skincare is not about quick fixes or one-size-fits-all solutions. Each individual’s skin is unique, influenced by factors such as lifestyle, environment, genetics, and age. As a result, treatments at the clinic are designed to be personalized, carefully evaluating the patient’s concerns before recommending a suitable course of action.

“Healthy skin begins with understanding the science behind it,” Dr. Parwanda explains. “Our goal is to combine dermatological knowledge with advanced treatment techniques to help patients achieve long-term skin health.”

Addressing the Growing Demand for Professional Skin Treatments

In recent years, the demand for professional dermatology services has grown significantly, particularly in urban areas where pollution, stress, and lifestyle factors can contribute to skin issues. Many people seek expert guidance for concerns such as pigmentation, acne, uneven skin tone, aging signs, and overall skin rejuvenation.

Zolie Skin Clinic has positioned itself as a trusted destination for individuals looking for medical-grade cosmetic dermatology treatments. The clinic primarily serves women who are interested in improving their skin health and appearance through treatments that are both safe and scientifically guided.

Patients visiting the clinic benefit from detailed consultations where dermatologists assess skin type, understand the patient’s goals, and recommend customized treatment plans tailored to their needs.

Building Trust Through Patient Satisfaction

One of the most significant achievements for Zolie Skin Clinic has been the creation of a large and loyal base of satisfied clients. Word-of-mouth recommendations and returning patients have played a major role in the clinic’s growth, reflecting the trust patients place in the clinic’s expertise and results.

Rather than focusing solely on cosmetic outcomes, the clinic prioritizes long-term skin wellness, ensuring that treatments are safe, effective, and aligned with dermatological best practices.

Patients often appreciate the transparency and professional guidance offered during consultations, which helps them make informed decisions about their skincare journey.

Combining Science with Aesthetic Care

Modern dermatology has evolved significantly in recent years, blending medical science with aesthetic innovation. Clinics today are able to offer advanced solutions that address both skin health and cosmetic concerns.

At Zolie Skin Clinic, this combination of science and aesthetics is central to the practice. Treatments are designed to enhance skin quality while maintaining natural-looking results, ensuring that patients feel confident and comfortable with their appearance.

The clinic’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that aesthetic treatments should never compromise skin health. By maintaining a dermatologist-led framework, the clinic ensures that every procedure is carried out responsibly and with a focus on patient well-being.

A Vision for the Future of Dermatology Care

As awareness about professional skincare continues to grow, Dr. Nirupama Parwanda aims to further strengthen the clinic’s role as a trusted dermatology destination in Delhi.

Her vision is to continue expanding access to safe, medically supervised skin treatments while educating patients about the importance of expert dermatological care.

With an increasing number of people prioritizing skin health as part of overall wellness, clinics like Zolie Skin Clinic are helping shape a more informed and responsible approach to cosmetic dermatology.

For Dr. Parwanda, the mission remains simple yet meaningful: Helping people feel confident in their skin while ensuring that every treatment is guided by the principles of dermatological science.

My Take on Hormone Replacement Therapy (and What I’ll Do)

Hormones are one of those topics that eventually find their way into almost every conversation about women’s health. At some point, many women begin to notice subtle changes. Trouble sleeping, unpredictable moods, and inconsistent cycles. Naturally, questions follow. Is this perimenopause? Is something wrong? Should I consider hormone replacement therapy?

It’s a topic I get a surprising number of questions about, especially from women wondering what my personal plan is. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has become one of the most talked-about topics in women’s health in the past few years. Some experts strongly support it, while others urge caution. Many women find themselves caught somewhere in the middle, trying to make sense of conflicting information.

The Changing Conversation on Hormones

At the same time, the conversation around hormones has shifted quite a bit. For years, hormone therapy was widely viewed as risky after early research raised concerns about cancer and cardiovascular disease. Recently, though, researchers have revisited that data and recognized that much of it was misunderstood or misapplied. The updated perspective is more nuanced, especially for healthy women who begin HRT near menopause using doses that mimic what our body naturally produces.

Even with that shift, though, hormones aren’t a simple topic. They influence nearly every system in the body, from metabolism and circadian rhythm to mood, sleep, and cellular energy. I approach this conversation like most health topics. It’s not about having all the right answers, but getting curious and root causes and how to really support the body.

Understanding the Phases of Hormonal Change

Before diving into hormone replacement therapy, it helps to understand the different stages of hormonal change women move through as we age. These shifts don’t happen overnight, but unfold gradually over several years.

Perimenopause

Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause. Hormone levels, especially estrogen and progesterone, begin to fluctuate more than our reproductive years. For some women these changes are barely noticeable, while others experience a variety of symptoms that can feel confusing or frustrating.

Sleep disruptions, irregular cycles, mood changes, and shifts in metabolism are all common during this phase. Because hormone levels may swing up and down rather than simply decline, symptoms can feel unpredictable.

Menopause

Menopause is officially defined as the point when a woman has gone twelve months in a row without a menstrual cycle. At this stage, estrogen and progesterone levels stabilize at lower levels than during our fertile years.

This shift can affect many areas of health, including bone density, cardiovascular health, metabolism, and brain function. Some women move through this transition smoothly, while others experience symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, or changes in mood and sleep.

Postmenopause

Postmenopause refers to the years following menopause. The body gradually adapts to its new hormonal baseline, and many symptoms that appeared during the transition begin to stabilize.

For some women, this phase can feel like a new equilibrium. For others, lingering symptoms may lead them to explore additional support options, including hormone therapy.

Why Hormone Therapy Is Back in the Conversation

One reason hormone replacement therapy has returned to the spotlight is a re-evaluation of research that shaped the conversation for decades. In the early 2000s, the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study reported increased risks of breast cancer, heart disease, stroke, and blood clots in women using hormone therapy. The headlines that followed were dramatic, and millions of women stopped taking hormones almost overnight.

Over time, however, researchers began taking a closer look at the study and noticed several important nuances. First, many participants were significantly older when they began hormone therapy, often more than a decade after menopause. Starting hormones much later in life appears to carry different risks than starting them closer to the transition into menopause.

Second, the study mainly used synthetic hormones, not bioidentical progesterone. These compounds behave differently in the body, which may have influenced the outcomes.

As scientists revisited the data, they found that some of the reported risks were smaller than originally interpreted and may not apply equally to all women. More recent takes suggest that healthy women who begin hormone replacement therapy near menopause may have lower risks than previously thought.

Because of this evolving understanding, regulatory agencies have begun revising some of the warnings placed on hormone therapies. The updated messaging emphasizes personal decision-making instead of blanket avoidance.

Of course, none of this means hormone replacement therapy is risk-free. Like most medical interventions, it has potential benefits and risks. Those depend heavily on the individual woman, the type of hormones used, and how they are delivered.

My Focus on Root Causes First

Even with the evolving science around hormone therapy, my philosophy hasn’t changed much. When it comes to hormones (or any part of health) I’m much more interested in understanding the underlying signals the body is sending.

Hormones are incredibly powerful messengers. They don’t act in isolation, and they rarely change without a reason. When the body stops producing certain hormones or begins producing them differently, there’s often a deeper story behind that shift.

Of course, aging plays a role. Hormonal transitions are a natural part of life, but there are also many other factors that influence hormone balance. These include sleep, stress, metabolism, nutrition, and environmental exposures. My approach is to start with the foundations. If hormone therapy eventually becomes helpful, I want the rest of my health to be as supported as possible so the body can respond to those hormones effectively.

Without that foundation, adding hormones can sometimes feel like turning up the volume on a broken radio. The signal becomes louder, but the underlying problem hasn’t been addressed.

The Foundational Systems That Influence Hormones

When we look at hormone health through a broader lens, there are several foundational systems that consistently show up.

Circadian Rhythm and Light

Circadian rhythm is one of the most powerful regulators of hormone production. Our bodies innately respond to natural light cycles, using sunrise and sunset as cues for everything from sleep timing to hormone release.

Modern life, of course, looks very different from the environment our biology evolved in. Artificial lighting, screens late at night, and long hours indoors can all disrupt those signals. Over time, this disruption can affect the brain’s communication with the endocrine system. Some researchers even suggest many hormonal symptoms may actually be circadian rhythm symptoms in disguise.

One of the simplest, yet most profound habits I have is to get morning light exposure every morning. Morning sunlight helps anchor the circadian rhythm and supports the brain’s timing of hormone release throughout the day. At night, reducing bright artificial light and protecting sleep becomes just as important.

Blood Sugar and Metabolic Health

Metabolic health is another major factor that often shows up in conversations about hormones. During perimenopause and menopause, many women become more sensitive to blood sugar fluctuations. Changes in insulin sensitivity can influence energy levels, mood, and even weight regulation.

Stabilizing blood sugar doesn’t require complicated strategies. It often comes down to consistent meals that contain enough protein, healthy fats, and fiber. Prioritizing regular movement and maintaining muscle mass by lifting heavy things also plays a key role. When metabolism is supported, the body has an easier time maintaining hormonal balance.

Mitochondrial Health

Mitochondria are often described as the powerhouses of the cell, but they’re so much more than just energy production. These tiny structures influence inflammation, cellular signaling, and hormone regulation. Some researchers estimate the human body contains trillions of mitochondria working round the clock to maintain cellular function.

Supporting our mitochondria is essentially the same as what our body needs for overall wellness. Nutrient-dense food, movement, natural light exposure, adequate minerals, and restorative sleep are essential for mitochondria. When the body has strong cellular energy production, it has more resources for hormone balance during transitions like perimenopause.

The Role of the Nervous System

Something that’s really shaped my perspective is the idea that the body prioritizes safety before anything else. When cells perceive a threat, whether from toxins, chronic stress, trauma, or infection, they shift into a defensive state. This is sometimes referred to as the cell danger response. During this state, the body temporarily puts less focus and energy towards processes that aren’t essential for immediate survival.

Hormone production can be one of those processes. From a biological standpoint, this makes sense. If the body believes it’s in a dangerous environment, it prioritizes survival over reproduction, long-term repair, or optimal hormone balance.

This is why nervous system regulation has become such an important piece of the puzzle for me. Practices that help the body feel safe, like breathwork, time in nature, restorative movement, and meaningful connection, can shift the nervous system out of survival mode. It helps the body go back into a state where healing and hormone balance are possible.

Potential Benefits and Risks of Hormone Therapy

To circle back to our original topic… While I prioritize foundational health first, hormone therapy can absolutely have a place in some women’s health journeys.

For women experiencing severe symptoms, hormone replacement therapy can provide meaningful relief. Hot flashes, night sweats, and sleep disruptions can sometimes improve significantly with appropriate hormone support. Some research also suggests potential benefits for bone density and overall quality of life.

At the same time, hormone therapy isn’t completely risk-free. Depending on the formulation and how its delivered, potential risks may include blood clots, stroke, or cancers for certain women. These risks vary widely depending on factors like age, health history, dosage, and whether hormones are synthetic or bioidentical. Because it’s a complex issue, it’s essential to work with a knowledgeable practitioner who knows your case.

My Personal Hormone Plan

At this stage of my life, I’m not in perimenopause and don’t currently need to consider hormone therapy. However, I’ve thought quite a bit about how I might approach it in the future. My plan is to continue focusing on the foundational aspects of health that naturally support hormones. That means prioritizing circadian rhythm, metabolic health, mitochondrial support, and nervous system balance. Practically speaking, this means prioritizing minerals and micronutrients, dialing in light exposure, de-stressing, and moving my body.

If hormone shifts eventually begin affecting my quality of life despite those foundations, I would be open to exploring hormone therapy with a knowledgeable practitioner. My preference would be bioidentical hormones at the lowest effective dose and with careful monitoring. For me, it isn’t a hard “no.” It’s simply not the first step.

A Different Way to View Menopause

One perspective I find helpful is remembering that menopause is not a disease. It’s a natural biological transition. In many cultures throughout history, menopause has been viewed as the beginning of a new phase of life rather than the end of something. Women often move into roles that focus more on leadership, creativity, mentorship, and community.

Without the demands of pregnancy and early motherhood, this stage can create space for entirely new pursuits and passions.

That reframing can change the way we approach the transition. Instead of seeing menopause as something to fight against, we can focus on supporting the body through it with the same care and respect we would give any other life stage. Personally, I’m looking forward to stepping into that role once its time!

Supporting the Body Through Hormonal Transitions

Hormone replacement therapy is a deeply personal decision, and there isn’t a single answer that applies to everyone. Each woman’s history, genetics, lifestyle, and health goals are unique.

What I’ve come to believe is that the most empowering place to begin is with the foundations of health. When we support healthy sleep, light exposure, nutrition, metabolism, and nervous system balance, the body is better equipped to navigate hormonal transitions.

If hormones eventually become part of the picture, they can act as a supportive tool instead of a last-ditch solution.

Wherever you are in your own journey, my hope is that this conversation encourages curiosity, thoughtful research, and trust in your body’s wisdom. Hormonal transitions are a natural part of life, and with the right support, they can be approached with confidence rather than fear.

Where are you at in your hormonal journey as a woman? What daily habits do you have to support hormone balance? Leave a comment and let us know!

Fenugreek seeds: Your new skincare secret

Fenugreek seeds: Your new skincare secret

Follow this guide

What’s the story

African fenugreek seeds are becoming increasingly popular in the skincare world, thanks to their natural benefits.
These seeds are loaded with nutrients that can help you achieve healthy skin.
They have been used for centuries in traditional medicine, and now modern skincare products are also using them.
Here’s how African fenugreek seeds can be a part of your skincare routine, naturally and effectively.

Nutrient-rich composition

African fenugreek seeds are loaded with vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, vitamin K, and potassium.
These nutrients are essential for healthy skin. Vitamin C helps in collagen production, which is important for skin elasticity.
Vitamin K helps reduce dark circles and blemishes, while potassium keeps the skin hydrated by retaining moisture.

Anti-inflammatory properties

The anti-inflammatory properties of African fenugreek seeds make them ideal for sensitive or acne-prone skin.
The compounds in these seeds help reduce redness and swelling caused by inflammation.
Regular use can calm irritated skin and prevent further breakouts, making it a great addition to any acne-fighting routine.

Antioxidant benefits

African fenugreek seeds are packed with antioxidants that fight free radicals responsible for premature aging.
These antioxidants protect the skin from environmental stressors such as pollution and UV rays.
By neutralizing free radicals, these seeds can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, giving you a more youthful appearance.

Versatile usage methods

There are several ways to use African fenugreek seeds in your skincare routine.
You can create a face mask by grinding the seeds into a powder and mixing it with water or yogurt to form a paste.
This mask can then be applied to the face for about twenty minutes before rinsing off with warm water.
Alternatively, you can use fenugreek oil extracted from the seeds as a moisturizer or serum.

As Skincare Tourism Grows, SkinCeuticals Moves To The Fore

As Skincare Tourism Grows, SkinCeuticals Moves To The Fore

More than 38 million aesthetic procedures were performed globally in 2024, including over 20 million non-surgical treatments such as lasers, peels and microneedling, with that figure widely expected to have increased further through 2025 and into 2026.

This is a more informed and more active consumer. Skin is being treated, monitored and managed with a level of precision that was previously confined to clinical settings. The products used in between those interventions are being selected with the same level of intent, supported by growing familiarity with both advanced treatments and high-performance formulations.

It is within this landscape that SkinCeuticals has built its position, operating at the intersection of clinical skincare and everyday use, where formulation strength and consistency of outcome carry greater weight than novelty. The celebrity-favourite brand operates within the dermatological beauty division of L’Oréal, with origins in antioxidant research led by Dr. Sheldon Pinnell at Duke University.

Skin assessment guided by clinical expertise, where diagnosis, treatment and product sit within the same moment, a model now reflected in SkinCeuticals’ Hainan experience.

Travel retail, particularly in Asia, has evolved into a high-engagement environment for beauty, where time, spend and intent converge. Hainan has emerged as one of the most commercially significant examples of this shift.

Hainan operates as China’s duty-free hub, with individual annual allowances of up to RMB 100,000 (approximately £11,000) per shopper. That policy has concentrated premium beauty spend into a single geography, supported by China Duty Free Group, now the largest travel retailer globally.

Sanya and Haikou have become high-volume, high-value environments for skincare. Consumers arrive with intent, higher spending thresholds and time to engage, creating conditions where premium products convert more effectively than in traditional retail.

For brands, this is proximity to a consumer already in a purchasing mindset, already investing in wellness, and already open to higher-value categories.

Where Treatment, Diagnosis And Product Converge

SkinCeuticals’ collaboration with China Duty Free Group and Hydrafacial at The EDITION Sanya sits directly at the intersection of these dynamics. Clinical-grade skincare is placed inside a hotel environment, combining diagnostic tools, device-led treatments and product application within one setting.

AI-supported skin analysis and in-room or spa-based protocols bring consultation, treatment and recommendation into a continuous experience, rather than a series of separate steps. The point of decision sits closer to the moment skin is being actively assessed and treated.

Advanced RGN-6: Designed For Skin That Has Already Changed

Core SkinCeuticals formulations, led by SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, continue to anchor routines through repeat use and clinical recommendation.

SkinCeuticals

That is where SkinCeuticals Advanced RGN-6 has made an immediate impact in its first year, sitting alongside the brand’s established formulations with a broad and loyal following.

Launched in 2025, the formulation was developed over five years to address visible changes that tend to appear in combination – redness, pigmentation, loss of firmness and textural irregularity. SkinCeuticals reports measurable improvement across these indicators, alongside accelerated barrier recovery and compatibility with laser-based treatments.

The formulation brings together niacinamide, peptides and ectoin within a system designed for skin that is reactive or recovering rather than stable. With the continued growth in aesthetic treatments, this reflects how skin is increasingly being managed between interventions.

New Pressures On Skin: Treatment Cycles And GLP-1 Impact

Aesthetic procedures alter skin in the short term, often leaving visible redness, sensitivity and disruption to the barrier. At the same time, the rise of GLP-1 weight loss treatments has introduced additional shifts in skin structure, particularly around elasticity and firmness, now widely discussed within clinical settings.

Prescriptions for GLP-1 medications increased by more than 700% between 2019 and 2023, with UK usage continuing to rise sharply in the past year. These shifts are visible, immediate and increasingly common, shaping what consumers expect from the products they use next.

Brand Built On Formulations That Stay

Celebrity fans of SkinCeuticals: The product appears regularly within routines shared by figures including Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner and Sienna Miller, alongside continued use in clinical settings.

Getty Images

SkinCeuticals has built its position in areas where formulation strength is visible over time.

Products such as C E Ferulic continue to be used years after launch, supported by clinical recommendation and repeat consumer purchase. The formulation of 15% L-ascorbic acid, 1% vitamin E and 0.5% ferulic acid, remains one of the most referenced antioxidant combinations in dermatology-led skincare.

That consistency shows up across audiences time after time. The product appears regularly within routines shared by figures including Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner and Sienna Miller, alongside continued use in clinical settings.

Advanced RGN-6 extends that approach into the recovery phase of the skincare cycle.

The Convergence Of Retail, Treatment And Experience

The merging of retail and spa, supported by on-site expertise, real-time diagnosis and immediate prescription, brings treatment and product into the same moment.

SkinCeuticals

What is changing now is the environment in which these products are encountered. The merging of retail and spa, supported by on-site expertise, real-time diagnosis and immediate prescription, brings treatment and product into the same moment.

What sits underneath all of this is a shift in accountability. When skin has already been treated, already changed, already invested in, the product that follows is not being given the benefit of time. Time-pressured consumers expect performance in a way that is visible and repeatable, often within days. That is where loyalty is formed now, not at the point of discovery, but in the moments where something works well enough to be reached for again and again.

Peter Andre’s surprising £45 anti-ageing beauty hack that makes wife call him ‘bonkers’

Need to soften fine lines on your face fast? Unlikely beauty influencer Peter Ande has a trick for that…

Peter has a beauty hack that his wife Emily finds ‘bonkers'(Image: Getty)

We’re used to getting some great skincare tips from celebrities, but what we weren’t expecting this week was to get a handy anti-ageing hack from Peter Andre.

The singer, 53, just revealed her turns to hydrogel eye patches to prep his skin before going on camera, all in a bid to “soften” fine lines and skin texture. The exact product he uses is Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Hydra-Gel Eye Patches – so not just any old product, other – an expert-approved one.

Writing on Instagram, Peter says: “Right, Emily’s been laughing at me, but I just said that I know these take the puffiness out of the [under] eyes, because we have an interview today. But I’ll put it up here as well, so it softens the skin. Am I the only one who does this? She thinks I’m bonkers. I am.”

Peter’s hack may not be the most budget-friendly one, considering how many under-eye patches he has to use to give near-full upper face coverage (six, to be exact), but he is onto something when he says they help prep his skin. Since these Peter Thomas Roth patches, on sale for £45 for 30 pairs, are infused with hyaluronic acid, ceramides and collagen, they will make under-eyes (and, err, foreheads) look more plump and hydrated quite fast.

Peter’s beauty hack isn’t quite as ‘bonkers’ as it looks(Image: Instagram)

However, Peter would have been better off using the brand’s dedicated Water Drench Hyaluronic Gel Face Mask, which costs £61 but has the same hydrating and plumping ingredients, blended into a gel made for full-face application. Plus, a pot will last you through many more applications than using six patches at once will.

Peter isn’t the only celeb turning to eye patches before a big day of filming. Last year, the Married at First Sight UK cast all went viral after many were filmed for the show wearing various versions of hydrogel patches. Bride Leah, in particular, was rarely seen without them for morning filming.

One user on the Holy Church of MAFS Facebook group penned in the comment section of a post dedicated to these under-eye patches: “I’m so happy someone else is talking about this because I was wondering what they are!”

MAFS watchers want to know what these gold under-eye patches are (Image: Channel 4)

Another simply responded with: “Eye slugs,” while a third weighed in with: “I had to ask my daughter what they are– are they a sponsor?!”

We can confirm that the patches that were used by Leah and Davide are Grace & Stella’s gold Under-Eye Masks, £17.95 for 24 pairs on Amazon. Infused with plumping and hydrating hyaluronic acid, these little gold slugs promise to deliver camera-ready under-eyes in 20 minutes by priming the area, reducing puffiness and plumping the look of fine lines.

Explaining further, another Facebook user sheds light on why they’re so visible in this series: “Davide did an Instagram Live saying they get given to them by the production team because their roll calls for the dinner party would start at 6 am.”

Whether Peter is a MAFS fan or has just worked this trick out for himself, we’re certain of one thing: he’s definitely not bonkers– just skincare savvy.

dit da jow

Dit Da Jow Recipe | Wellness Mama

Years ago our whole family started taking Jujutsu for a season. We all enjoyed it, but the rolls, throws and climbing definitely came more easily to the kids! Any activity that involves wooden swords and rolling will inevitably create some bumps and bruises along the way.

After one class that left us particularly sore, the Sensei (teacher) shared a traditional herbal remedy. It’s been used in Asian countries for pain relief and rapid healing for years. Dit Da Jow (literally translated “hit wine medicine”) is essentially an herbal tincture or liniment packed with healing herbs.

What is Dit Da Jow?

Dit Da Jow is an analgesic liniment traditionally preferred by martial artists. Often a martial arts master blends his unique mixture of many aromatic herbs like myrrh, ginseng, and traditional TCM herbs. The combination helps stimulate circulation, reduce pain and swelling, and improve injuries and speed wound healing.

The tradition became known as “hit medicine”. Many people have also found this liquid analgesic useful for reducing muscle aches, arthritis, and rheumatism discomfort.

Dit Da Jow Recipes

I researched traditional Dit Da Jow recipes and while it was hard to find many of them (most are considered secret family recipes), I finally found a mixture that works really well for us. Traditional Dit Da Jow uses a long list of herbs that are native to Asia, many of which are hard to find in the US.

The version I came up with has the same benefits, but many of the herbs are found in the US. While this wouldn’t be considered true Dit Da Jow, it’s been very effective for our bumps and bruises. It also helps speed recovery of non-martial arts related injuries so I keep it stocked in our natural medicine cabinet.

You can also find more traditional Dit Da Jow here if you want to try it.

The Benefits of Dit Da Jow

Overall Dit Da Jow helps reduce swelling and speed healing from bumps and sprains. Since the recipes are all so different, I’ll just give a quick overview of the benefits of the herbs I chose.

  • Arnica – Often used for strains, sprains, and bruising.
  • Plantain leaf – A go-to herb for soothing and healing minor wounds, cuts, and irritated skin. Plantain also helps reduce inflammation and supports recovery from skin damage.
  • Comfrey leaf – Nicknamed “boneknit,” comfrey rapidly heals skin and supports bone healing.
  • Frankincense – This resin helps calm inflammation and promote tissue repair. It’s a favorite for soothing sore muscles, joints, and damaged skin topically.
  • Myrrh – Known for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, myrrh supports wound healing. It also reduces swelling and eases pain in bruised or strained tissues.
  • Fennel – Fennel offers gentle warming and anti-inflammatory support to help relieve muscle tension. It also promotes circulation for faster recovery.
  • Angelica Root – This warming root helps ease pain and inflammation in muscles and joints while supporting circulation for faster healing times.
  • Calendula – A gentle herb that promotes rapid healing of cuts, scrapes, and irritated skin. It’s also soothing and reduces inflammation for overall tissue repair.
  • Dandelion root – Rich in minerals, dandelion root supports detox and lessens inflammation. It’s used to help reduce swelling in sore muscles and joints.
  • Horsetail – High in silica, horsetail strengthens connective tissues and supports bone and ligament repair for better resilience after injury.
  • Nettle leaf – Packed with minerals and micronutrients, nettle nourishes tissues, reduces inflammation, and helps ease muscle and joint pain.
  • Clove – Clove is a warming analgesic that eases deep muscle pain and supports circulation for faster recovery.
  • Turmeric – This powerful anti-inflammatory herb helps reduce swelling and pain in muscles, joints, and ligaments while supporting the body’s natural healing process.

How Does Herbal Liniment Work?

The alcohol extracts the beneficial properties from the herbs. When applied topically alcohol quickly absorbs into our skin and works quickly. You may be familiar with making herbal tinctures to take internally, this is just a topical version. This recipe is for external use only, it’s not the kind of tincture you take internally.

Yes, the recipe does call for a lot of herbs, but I’ve seen it get rid of bruises and pain overnight! This Dit Da Jow recipe has been really effective for our family and others I’ve shared it with.

  • Place all of the herbs in a 16 ounce glass mason jar.

  • Fill the rest of the jar with food-grade, 80-proof or higher alcohol and stir with a clean spoon.

  • Put the lid on the jar. Store the jar in a cool/dry place, shaking daily, for at least three weeks and up to 1 year. I usually leave the herbs for six weeks.

  • Strain through cheesecloth and compost the herbs. Store the tincture in colored dropper bottles or clean glass jars.

Use on skin as needed to help with bruises, sore muscles and pain. Do not use on cut or broken skin.

As with any natural remedies consult with a natural healthcare practitioner before using, especially if you’re pregnant, nursing, or have medical conditions.

Shelf Life and Storage

Traditionally Dit Da Jow is brewed for months, if not years. Some research has shown that a batch steeped for 5 years had significantly more benefits than one steeped for 1 year. You probably don’t want to wait that long before using your liniment though. I’ve found that even 6 weeks is enough to get herbal benefits. Plus, the traditional recipes are often made with Chinese root herbs that are tougher than plantain, calendula, etc.

You can keep the herbs in the jar and strain the liquid out as needed. Just be sure the herbs stay completely covered in alcohol. Once you’ve used more of the liquid, just strain the herbs out. Store your Dit Da Jow in a cool, dark place, away from direct light and heat.

With that in mind, below we’ve curated a list of just some of our favourite skincare products that have left us with the best skin of our lives, from Charlotte Tilbury to Medik8 to the viral Medicube and more.

Bethan’s pick

Medik8 Crystal Retinal 1 – £45

Medik8’s Crystal Retinal is widely regarded as one of the best anti-ageing skincare products on the market

Medik8 Crystal Retinal is one of the few science-backed skincare products to achieve cult status in the industry, beloved by experts and everyday skincare fans alike. The award-winning overnight Vitamin A serum is powered by retinaldehyde (aka retinal), which is said to work 11 times faster than traditional retinol to target fine lines, uneven texture and pigmentation.

The formula comes in six strengths, ranging from sensitive (1) to expert (24). As someone with quite reactive skin, I’ve been using the lowest potency formula, and it’s certainly one of the gentlest ways to introduce Vitamin A into a skincare routine, with no redness, flaking or irritation that is sometimes associated with retinoids.

According to Medik8, shoppers can experience clinically proven wrinkle reduction with just one tube; however, this was an independent study on Crystal Retinal 6. Personally, I didn’t notice a change in the fine lines on my forehead with the low strength I have been using, but I did experience an overall glow, smoother texture and slightly firmer feel to my skin.

It’s also formulated with hydrating and soothing ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin, which help to offset the dryness and irritation that vitamin A products can sometimes cause. In hindsight, I likely could have started at a slightly higher strength, as the formula is clearly designed to be both effective and tolerable. That said, it feels like a solid, low-risk entry point, particularly if you’re new to vitamin A or wary of sensitivity, with the option to build up to stronger concentrations over time for more visible age-defying results.

Priced from £45 to £109, it’s definitely a more premium product, so for those shopping on a shoestring, The INKEY List Advanced Retinal Serum 15ml is a great budget option, priced at £15, which is formulated with 0.2% encapsulated retinaldehyde. Meanwhile, Facetheory’s Retinal Supreme MultiCream 0.2% formula is priced at £55.

Eve’s picks:

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream – £54

Charlotte Tilbury’s ‘facelift in a jar’ Magic Cream is one of Eve Rowlands’ beauty staples(Image: Charlotte Tilbury)

This cream truly deserves the hype that surrounds it. As a moisturiser and primer in one, this face cream markets itself as a ‘facelift in a jar’ – especially with its new supercharged formula – and I must say it really does the trick of reviving dull and tired-looking skin.

The Magic Cream’s new formula is packed with a ‘world-first Recoverstem™ Peptide’, which contains a blend of over 100 multi-action Peptides ‘extracted from the Stem Cells of the Eternal Jasmine Youth Plant™, known for their remarkable ability to continuously renew’.

I tend to apply this in the morning after cleansing and applying a serum, and it gives me a real boost as my skin instantly looks plump, hydrated, and any redness soothed – giving me confidence to leave the house bare-faced. It’s got no SPF in, though, so can be used at night – but don’t forget to apply sunscreen if putting on in the morning.

As a primer, it’s a great base for makeup as it makes my foundation look so smooth – no pilling, with my pores easily blended. The downside is that it’s quite pricey as a 30ml tub costs £54. That being said, a little goes a long way, as my last jar lasted about a year, so it is a good investment.

Superfacialist’s Vitamin C+ Skin Renew Cleansing Oil Vitamin C | Brighten Gentle Daily Micro Polish Wash – £10 and £14

Eve Rowlands’ go-to cleansing duo is the Superfacialist’s Vitamin C+ Skin Renew Cleansing Oil Vitamin C and Brighten Gentle Daily Micro Polish Wash(Image: Eve Rowlands)

I’ve always been a bit of a cleansing balm lover – the Elemis Cleansing Balm, £52, is one of my faves alongside Lush’s Oat Cleansing Balm, £16, but I recently discovered Superfacialist’s ‘Superglow’ Vitamin C formulations, and I’m a convert. A more affordable option, the Superfacialist Vitamin C+ Skin Renew Cleansing Oil is currently on sale at Boots for £9.33 from £14 and is packed with nourishing oils like olive, grapeseed, cucumber and rosehip as well as Vitamin C to dissolve makeup as well as dirt and impurities.

The highly soluble oil is a two-in-one as, once in contact with water, it turns into a cleansing milk to leave a glowy, soft and evened out complexion. My only gripe is that the oil is quite watery, so it sometimes slips through my fingers when applying, wasting the product.

While I’ve not been using it long enough to notice any anti-ageing properties (its formula also includes a high-performance pro-collagen Vitamin C active), my skin is the best it’s ever looked; it’s brighter, has a more even texture, and my pores look less prominent.

This is also helped by the Super Facialist Vitamin C+ Brighten Gentle Daily Micro Polish Wash, now £6.67 from £10 at Boots. The second step in my double cleanse, it leaves my skin smooth and hydrated and feeling taute. It smells divine with a citrus scent that lingers, while Vitamin C adds a radiance boost.

Medik8 Press and Glow Tonic – £34

Medik8’s Press and Glow Tonic is exfoliating, smoothing and brightening(Image: Eve Rowlands)

I’ve tried a good few toners in my time, from the Pixi Glow Toner, £12, to Coats Gentle Hydrating Toning Milk, £10, but since adding this Press and Glow Toner into my skincare routine morning and night, I’ve noticed a significant difference in the texture of my skin. It’s smoother, there are fewer dry patches, and I’ve noticed my pores aren’t quite as large.

While I’ve not seen any major changes to fine lines on my forehead – something some people have reported – or around my eyes (as it’s not recommended for use under the eyes due to their delicate nature), my skin looks and feels invigorated and looks brighter after sweeping a cotton pad with the formula on. And that’s good enough for me. I also enjoy how the bottle has a convenient press-pump applicator that lets the user control how much comes out with a single press of the top – no need to tip it upside down and risk using too much.

While I’ve not experienced many negative effects, some shoppers have been left disappointed with the stinging sensation it leaves on those with more sensitive skin. One user remarked: “I can only use this when I have no blemishes, as it stings otherwise. A shame because this came highly recommended, and is supposed to be suitable for sensitive skin.”

Wonderbalm – £15

The Wonderbalm is an all purpose multi-tasking balm (Image: Eve Rowlands)

I cannot stress how much this Wonder Balm has changed my skin care. A multi-tasking balm, this Korean Beauty wonder has a fast absorbing, yet insanely hydrating formula, which can be used as a moisturiser, hair mask, lip balm, hand cream, makeup primer, makeup remover and eye cream.

It is packed with a whole host of vitamins and antioxidants that are anti-inflammatory, moisturising and promote skin renewal with its ingredients like Olive Oil, Shea Butter, Candelilla Wax, Orange Peel Oil, and Vegetable Oil in the mix.

While I typically use it to treat dry lips, hands and as a face moisturiser, I have applied it to eczema flare-ups, skincare reactions, dermatitis, cuts and scrapes as well as post-shaving. It’s been transformative, calming any issues in just a few hours.

One thing I’d change, personally, is its scent. While it is marketed as being un-fragranced, I feel it has a slight citrus/nutty smell that I’m not too keen on. Although that doesn’t stop me from using it every day.

Jess’s pick

medicube Zero Pore Pads – £20.10

medicube’s pore pads gave beauty writer Jess fast results

I’m the first to admit I can be a bit of a sceptic when it comes to viral skincare. One of my main skincare concerns as someone with an oily complexion has always been enlarged-looking pores around my nose.

I first heard about the medicube Zero Pore Pads after finding out Molly-Mae Hague was a fan of the mild version, and I immediately ordered the standard formula from Amazon. What sets this product apart for me is the pad design, which doesn’t require any additional tools to massage it in.

I noticed my skin appearing smoother in as little as a week, and I don’t feel my make-up settling into pores as much as it previously did, either. I like that these get to work fast, as I’m pretty impatient when waiting for results, as is often the case with new skincare.

I can’t lie, whilst the included tweezer-style pick-up tool isn’t necessarily needed, it does make me feel like somewhat of a beauty pro during my routine. I also notice when I use the pads after cleansing that they often still manage to get traces of fake tan and makeup off my face, which is pretty impressive given that I usually double cleanse.

One downside is that the product left behind by the pad isn’t the fastest to absorb in my opinion, however, I simply massage it in to get the most out of the ingredients. Shoppable at Amazon, they can also be purchased from the likes of LookFantastic and ASOS, but I’d suggest those with more sensitive skin may wish to start with the mild formula.

They’ve fast become my favourite new addition to my beauty routine, and one I’ll immediately repurchase when I next run out.

Narin’s pick

Medik8 Surface Radiance Cleanse – £25

Narin says this Medik8 cleanser is ‘my secret weapon'(Image: Narin Flanders)

I’ve reached the age where, while I want my skin to feel thoroughly cleaned, lots of face washes and cleansers leave my face feeling tight, dry and stripped of nutrients rather than nourished when I use them. The Medik8 cleanser is my secret weapon.

It has a gentle yet effective AHA/BHA complex that exfoliates without any abrasive grit. The brand says it also helps smooth fine lines and wrinkles and tackles the ageing effects of free radicals. I can’t attest to that (yet!) but I definitely think my skin looks brighter, less blotchy and more even when I use it.

It costs £25 for a 150ml tube, which initially felt a lot, but when I realised how little of a pea-sized amount was enough to fully clean my face, it feels like a cost-effective treat. Medik8 says the tube will last for 140 washes, which at less than 18p a use feels reasonable, but I think it could be even more than that based on my experience – once you get used to not having to squirt loads into your hands to wash your face. because it goes so far

It comes out of the tube as a gel and goes on like a silky, foamy cream. It has a lovely, natural citrus scent that reminds me of lemon pie, and it’s my little evening luxury ritual to wash away the harshness and any impurities picked up during the day.

Jada’s pick

Biodance Bio Collagen-Real Deep Mask (4 Pack) – £14.90

The Biodance mask turns from a gel into a sheet mask(Image: LookFantastic)

I am someone who prioritises skin care at every turn, and I’ve always found a sheet mask to be the ultimate way to wrap up a night of self-care. I used to swear by Garnier’s sheet masks, to the point I’d get a subscription for them on Amazon, but they went out the window as soon as I tried the collagen sheet masks on the market.

I’ve tried a fair few of them, with Rehab, £16 for three, Medicube, £26 for four and Dr Jart’s, £8.50 for one, all standing out to me. There’s one that I keep buying on repeat, though, and that has to be Biodance’s Bio Collagen-Real Deep Mask. For those of us who have seen the viral videos, we know they can be worn overnight, but I tend to use them for about four hours, at which point they’ve gone see-through, and I can peel them off to reveal glowing skin.

My skin is bouncy and moisturised after using these, and they’ve become one of my only skincare must-haves. £14.90 can sound expensive for face masks, but since it’s a four-pack, it works out at about £3.72 per mask. When my skin barrier is inflamed, often due to travel or indulging in foods I shouldn’t, I prefer the blue Hydro Cera-nol mask.

That said, I do want to try the full range especially with the new Caviar PDRN Real Deep Mask which has K-beauty’s cult classic PDRN in. These masks are great for a pamper night and I think a great way to bulk out any gift bags.

Lauren’s picks

LANEIGE Bouncy & Firm Eye Sleeping Mask – £28

This hydrating eye cream works overnight to reduce the appearance of puffiness and dark circles(Image: Lauren Codling)

Laneige is a household name within the beauty world thanks to its iconic Lip Sleeping Masks and hydrating Water Bank collection. But it was the brand’s Bouncy & Firm range, launched last year to plump and revitalise tired skin, that truly changed my routine.

A full year later, I’m still loyal to the entire four-piece line, but the Bouncy & Firm Eye Sleeping Mask, £28, at Boots is the undisputed hero. My under-eyes are notoriously finicky, usually reacting to products with stings or redness, but this formula is different; it’s actually the first eye treatment I’ve ever bothered to repurchase.

Its cooling, gel-like texture glides on smoothly, instantly de-puffs and soothes, and it’s never caused any irritation, even after nightly use. The Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask, £32, at SpaceNK, is worth considering, too; it feels rich yet breathable on my skin, locking moisture without feeling heavy or greasy.

Rodial Vit C Brightening Cleansing Pads – £49

These cleansing pads leave Lauren’s skin feeling refreshed and noticeably more radiant(Image: Lauren Codling)

Vitamin C is a permanent fixture in my skincare arsenal, especially on days when my complexion feels lacklustre or drained. These Vitamin C Brightening Cleansing Pads were recommended to me by a fellow beauty writer around six months ago, and it didn’t take me long to become obsessed.

A single swipe is all it takes to sweep away impurities, boost luminosity, and gently refine the skin’s texture. Incorporating them into my morning ritual has been transformative: my face feels instantly awakened, impeccably clean, and visibly more radiant. Plus, the subtle citrus aroma provides a sophisticated, spa-like sensory experience.

While Rodial recommends applying twice daily, I prefer to reserve these premium pads for my AM routine to maximise that morning glow. For my evening dose of antioxidants, I lean on Medik8’s C-Tetra Serum (£45) to ensure I wake up with a bright, revived complexion.

Lucy’s pick

Charlotte Tilbury’s Immediate Eye Revival Patches – £46.40

Lucy recommends storing them in the fridge for a refreshing under-eye feel(Image: Lucy Addicott)

When I haven’t had enough sleep, or I just want to give my under-eyes a lift, I find Charlotte Tilbury’s Immediate Eye Revival Patches the ideal quick-fix. In the mornings, I use the included spatula to scoop up the patches, pop them under my eyes, and ten minutes later, my bags look less puffy, and I feel refreshed.

The £58 pot contains 60 eye patches, which initially I did think was quite steep; however, like all Charlotte Tilbury products I’ve tried, the high quality and results are, in my opinion, worth it. At the moment, the eye patches are on sale for £46.40, bringing a pair down to £1.50 each.

I use them sparingly because of this, but every time I do, I’m reminded why they are a cut above other brands I’ve tried for several reasons. They get to work rapidly, so I don’t have to spend ages in the morning waiting before I can put my makeup on.

Another key factor is that they are 100% non-slip and non-drip, meaning I can walk around the house with them on without worrying they are going to end up on my chin. They also feel very luxurious, with a thick hydrogel cushion that makes me feel pampered.

Unlike other eye patches I’ve tried, these do not leave any residue behind, and I can apply concealer seamlessly without pilling or flaking. There are cheaper alternatives for anyone who wants to use eye patches daily, such as the Pixi Depuffing Eye Patches (£22) and the Beauty of Joseon Revive Ginseng Eye Patches £17.

How to tweak your skincare routine for spring

How to tweak your skincare routine for spring

Winter is notoriously harsh on skin — cold temperatures, wind exposure, and indoor heating systems can strip the skin of its natural moisture, leaving it dehydrated and vulnerable.

Spring, however, brings warmer temperatures and higher humidity levels. Our skin naturally begins to produce more oil, and sweat production increases. Pores may appear more noticeable, and congestion can become more common. The days are also longer, with stronger UV exposure, and after months of limited sun exposure, skin may be more susceptible to UV damage. Here’s my advice for tweaking your skincare routine for the season ahead.

Introduce a retinol

It’s the perfect time to introduce retinol if you haven’t already, as skin is better able to tolerate actives when the sun is less intense than in the summer months. Starting a retinol in spring allows your skin to acclimatise to it. Winter can lead to dryness, flakiness, and redness, so skin has enough to deal with, without any extra potential irritation from retinol. Retinol’s exfoliating properties can help reverse this damage in spring, leaving your skin looking refreshed and revitalised. By incorporating retinol into your spring skincare routine, you’re also prepping your skin for the sun-exposed days of summer.

Add an exfoliator

Winter can leave skin looking dull, dry, and flaky, and when you add sweat and pollution into the mix, congestion can quickly follow. Introducing an exfoliator into your routine can help restore a healthy, glowing complexion. Exfoliation offers multiple benefits: it smooths rough skin, improves texture, softens the appearance of fine lines, treats and prevents ingrown hairs, evens out tone, brightens dullness, fades dark spots and pigmentation, reduces blemishes, and boosts the
absorption of your other skincare products.

Use an antioxidant serum

After months of cold, dry weather, skin can start to look dull, uneven, and tired. Adding a vitamin C serum to your routine can help brighten the complexion and improve the appearance of uneven skin tone. As we spend more time outdoors in spring, environmental stressors can also contribute to dryness, dullness, and a loss of elasticity. Increased sun exposure may lead to sunspots and hyperpigmentation but antioxidant serums such as vitamin C can help protect the skin and reduce these effects. If your skin can’t tolerate vitamin C, there are plenty of other antioxidants to choose from, including Q10, niacinamide, resveratrol, and green tea.

Don’t neglect the neck

Our necks have been protected under scarves and polo necks until now but they’re more exposed in spring. It’s so important to look after our necks as the skin there is thinner, more sensitive, and has fewer oil glands, so it can become crepey, lose firmness, and start sagging. Double moisturising is one way to correct this and, as the skin on the neck is more prone to sun damage due to its paper-thin texture, always ensure that you use an SPF there too. Make sure to bring your moisturisers, serums, and even retinols down your neck. If you’re starting fresh on your neck, a neck-specific product to retexturise, replump, and firm may be just the ticket.

  • Try it: NeoStrata, €76, Allcare Pharmacy

Don’t forget sunscreen

Another reminder. UV levels begin to increase from early March, meaning the spring sun can be more intense than we realise and our skin isn’t used to it. After winter, skin is less accustomed to UV exposure, so it can be more sensitive when suddenly exposed during outdoor activities. Even though the weather can be changeable and the temperatures chilly, and you mightn’t immediately notice the effects on your skin, the UV Index can already reach levels of three or four during spring. Don’t assume you’re safe just because you’re spending most of your time indoors — while glass blocks most UVB rays (which cause burning), UVA rays (which contribute to premature skin ageing) can penetrate it. Even if you’re heading on a skiing holiday, a high-protection SPF and proper eye protection are essential as snow reflects sunlight and UV rays become more intense at higher altitudes.

  • Try it: Sculpted by Aimee Beauty Base Protect, €30, Boots

Switch to a lighter moisturiser

One of the most important skincare changes in spring is switching your moisturiser. Heavy creams that work well during colder months can feel overly rich once temperatures rise. Of course, if your skin is dry year-round and thrives on a thick cream, you can absolutely continue using your winter moisturiser. But if you’ve oily or combination skin, a lightweight lotion or gel cream is better. Lighter formulas provide the hydration your skin needs without feeling heavy or clogging pores. Choosing non-comedogenic formulations can also help prevent congestion and breakouts.
