Chapter 1: Your skin changes just by stopping over-washing

Many people feel that their skin condition is unstable even though they are careful about beauty. The cause may not be a lack of new cosmetics, but rather that daily face washing and cleansing are putting a strain on the skin. From 2026, there is a trend toward emphasizing “barrier care” that protects the skin’s natural functions. To keep your skin clean, not washing away necessary sebum and dead skin cells is also an important part of skincare.

Washing your face more often does not mean it is more effective. In dermatology, washing your face in the morning and at night is considered basic and sufficient for healthy skin. If you use facial cleanser every time you are concerned about sweat or sebum, you will lose the sebum necessary for the stratum corneum, which can easily lead to dryness and a feeling of tightness. Since dry skin tries to compensate for sebum, it can also lead to shine and noticeable pores. It is more important to wash your face according to your skin condition than to increase the frequency.

Cleansing requires the same way of thinking. If you continue to use products with strong cleansing power or rub your skin for a long time on days when you are not wearing heavy makeup, the irritation to your skin will accumulate little by little. Currently, it is recommended to choose cleansing power according to the thickness of your makeup and the sunscreen you used, and to remove it gently in a short time.Removing only the necessary dirt and reducing friction on the skin is the basis for maintaining clarity.

Some people believe that the feeling of tight skin after washing is “proof that it was washed clean,” but that sensation may be a sign that the moisture in the stratum corneum is insufficient and the skin’s barrier function is weakened. It is important to moisturize as soon as possible after washing your face and to replenish moisture with products containing moisturizing ingredients such as ceramides and glycerin. The habit of moisturizing immediately after washing your face is essential to protect your skin from dryness and irritation.

In daily skincare, continuing the basics without breaking them leads to results rather than special techniques. Before increasing the number of expensive serums, just reviewing habits like over-washing and over-rubbing can change your skin environment. Also, continuing UV protection during the day can reduce the burden on your skin. The first step to creating a polished impression is to accumulate daily care that protects the skin by reducing habits that put a burden on it.

⸻

Chapter 2: Let go of the belief in expensive cosmetics

It is often thought that the more expensive the cosmetic, the higher the effect, but that way of thinking is changing significantly in current skincare. The price of cosmetics includes advertising costs, brand value, and container design. Therefore, you cannot judge beauty effects based on price alone. As of 2026, the idea of choosing ingredients that match your skin concerns and continuing necessary care is emphasized. Rather than collecting luxury brands, choosing products that match your skin type and purpose tends to lead to higher satisfaction in the long run. Rather than continuing to use expensive cosmetics that do not suit your skin, continuing to use products that suit you correctly makes it easier to aim for healthy skin.

When choosing cosmetics, it is important to check the ingredients contained, not the brand name or price. You need to choose according to your purpose, such as moisturizing ingredients if you are concerned about dryness, or skin-conditioning ingredients if you want to prevent rough skin. Even if a product becomes a hot topic on social media, you cannot expect sufficient effects if it does not suit your skin type. The habit of understanding the ingredients your skin needs and choosing cosmetics will reduce wasteful shopping and increase the overall satisfaction of your skincare. Recently, many products that properly contain active ingredients are sold even in relatively affordable price ranges. Therefore, it is no longer an era where quality is judged solely by price.

Retinol and niacinamide are representative skincare ingredients that will continue to attract attention in 2026. Retinol is expected to have the effect of making fine lines caused by dryness less noticeable and improving skin texture. On the other hand, niacinamide is used for a wide range of purposes, such as supporting the skin’s barrier function and dealing with dullness and rough skin caused by dryness.Just because it is popular, it is important not to incorporate it blindly, but to use it appropriately while considering your skin condition and frequency of use. If you feel irritation, it is recommended to adjust the frequency of use and continue while watching the condition of your skin.

Even with highly rated cosmetics, if you stop using them halfway, it is difficult to expect changes in your skin. Rather than forcing yourself to buy expensive serums every month, it is more realistic to continue basic skincare in a price range you can afford. It is also important to continue using it for a certain period to check its compatibility with your skin, rather than replacing it every time a new product is released.Habits you can continue every day are the most valuable investment in beauty, and by continuing, it becomes easier to grasp the condition of your skin and easier to identify the care you really need.

People who look polished are not those who own many luxury brands. They understand their skin, incorporate only the necessary ingredients without strain, and continue to do so for a long time. By letting go of the habit of choosing cosmetics based on high prices, you can see the skincare you really need. What will make a difference in future beauty is not collecting expensive cosmetics, but acquiring the ability to choose cosmetics based on correct knowledge and continue using them.

⸻

Chapter 3: Stop chasing beauty trends from social media

On social media, new beauty methods and buzzy cosmetics are introduced almost every day, and many products attract attention in a short period. However, the number of views and reviews does not mean that it will suit your skin. In beauty, compatibility with your skin determines the results more than the speed of trends.Even if a product is popular with many people, you cannot expect sufficient effects if it does not suit your skin type. First, it is important to calmly judge whether it is care you need rather than its buzz.

The habit of buying and replacing buzzy cosmetics one after another puts a burden on both your skin and your household budget. If you try multiple products in a short period, it becomes difficult to judge which product suits your skin. Also, even if irritation or rough skin occurs, it becomes difficult to identify the cause. Since skin changes due to turnover, it is important to continue using it for a certain period to confirm the effect.Rather than changing products every time there is a trend, using one product for an appropriate period and observing changes in your skin makes it easier to find skincare that suits you.

Understanding your skin type is an important foundation for looking polished. Dry skin, oily skin, combination skin, and sensitive skin require different care, and the feeling of the same product differs from person to person. Although usage and finish are often introduced on social media, it does not mean that the poster’s skin type is the same as yours. If you choose cosmetics after understanding your skin type, you can reduce wasteful replacements and it will also lead to the prevention of skin problems. Also, since skin condition changes depending on the season and lifestyle habits, it is important to review it periodically.

Recently, more people are deciding to purchase after checking information based on dermatology while referring to information on social media. By carefully checking ingredient labels and usage methods and judging whether they match your purpose, it becomes easier to prevent impulse buying. Also, reviews are just personal impressions, so they do not necessarily lead to the same results.By not ending with just collecting information and checking it against reliable sources, you can acquire beauty habits that are less likely to fail.

People with a polished impression do not jump on new beauty methods every week. They decide on basic skincare that suits their skin and continue it without strain. Knowing about buzzy products is not a bad thing, but the time to think about whether you really need them is just as important.Continuing beauty habits that suit you is the most reliable way to keep beautiful skin for a long time, rather than chasing trends.

⸻

Chapter 4: Don’t limit UV protection to summer

It is often thought that UV protection is sufficient only in midsummer, but that way of thinking is currently being reviewed. There are types of UV rays that reach the ground regardless of the season or weather, and UVA in particular pours down throughout the year and has the property of passing through window glass.Protecting your skin from UV rays throughout the year, rather than just taking measures in summer, will greatly affect your future skin impression. The impact on the skin does not appear significantly at once, but accumulates little by little through daily accumulation, so you cannot let your guard down even in seasons when you feel the sunlight is weak.

Even in daily life, we are exposed to more UV rays than we imagine. There are many opportunities to receive UV rays even during short outings, such as commuting to work or school, shopping, hanging out laundry, driving a car, or working by a window. Also, UV rays do not disappear completely even on cloudy days, and they reach the skin regardless of the season.Special leisure activities are not the only targets for UV protection; daily life itself is a scene for UV protection. Since the accumulation of daily UV rays is considered a cause of dryness and lack of firmness, it is important to incorporate UV protection as a daily habit.

When choosing sunscreen, it is also important not to judge only by the numbers. Products with high SPF and PA feel reassuring, but the necessary performance differs depending on the situation. By using them differently, such as those with a light feel for daily life centered indoors and those with high durability for days when you are active outdoors for a long time, it becomes easier to continue without strain.Choosing a sunscreen with a feel that you can continue to use every day is the biggest point in making UV protection a habit. Rather than stopping use because you are worried about stickiness or white cast, choosing a product that you can use comfortably makes it easier to continue as a result.

Also, sunscreen is not finished once you apply it in the morning. Since it falls off little by little due to sweat, sebum, and friction, it is important to reapply it at an appropriate time when spending a long time outdoors. Furthermore, by combining it with hats, parasols, and clothing with UV-cut functions, you can further reduce the burden on your skin.By combining multiple UV protection methods instead of relying on just one, you can protect your skin efficiently.

People with a polished impression do not do special care only in summer, but continue UV protection in the same way throughout the year. Rather than using expensive serums, not missing the basics of applying sunscreen every morning makes a big difference in the long run.UV protection is not a seasonal beauty, but continuing it as a habit naturally incorporated into daily life is the most reliable way to protect beautiful skin.

⸻

Chapter 5: Stop relying solely on skincare

Even if you use expensive serums and cosmetics, if your lifestyle habits are disrupted, your skin cannot exert its original power. In recent beauty, skincare is just one element for conditioning the skin, and a comprehensive approach including sleep, diet, and stress management is emphasized.Beautiful skin is not made only by cosmetics, but is greatly influenced by daily lifestyle habits. Instead of focusing only on care from the outside, preparing an environment that supports the skin from the inside of the body is the basis for maintaining healthy skin for a long time.

It is known that sleep deprivation has various effects on the skin. Since the work of conditioning the skin becomes active during sleep, if you continue to be unable to secure sufficient sleep time, you may easily feel dryness, dullness, and lack of firmness. Also, not only sleep time, but a lifestyle rhythm of going to bed and waking up at the same time as much as possible every day is also important. Before spending time on skincare, securing high-quality sleep is a major investment in your skin. In a life of repeating staying up late, it may be difficult to fully realize the effects of expensive skincare products.

Dietary habits are also deeply related to skin condition. Extreme dietary restrictions and nutritional imbalances affect not only the body but also the skin. Protein becomes the material that constitutes the skin, and vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients for maintaining skin health. Instead of consuming large amounts of only specific foods, it is important to combine various foods and balance nutrition.Reviewing your daily diet can be a trigger for conditioning your skin environment more than replacing cosmetics. Being conscious of a diet that you can continue, rather than unreasonable dietary restrictions, also leads to beauty.

Stress is also an element that cannot be overlooked. If busy days continue, sleep quality decreases and lifestyle rhythms are easily disrupted, and as a result, many people feel that their skin condition is unstable. Moderate exercise, hobby time, and sufficient rest are important not only for physical and mental health but also for beauty.A life without accumulating stress brings good changes not only to the skin but also to expressions and atmosphere. To continue beauty, it is also necessary to consciously create time where you can relax without strain.

People with a polished impression do not just practice special beauty methods. They sleep well every day, are conscious of nutritional balance, and continue skincare that suits them while dealing with stress well. By organizing lifestyle habits, the skin’s original power is easily exerted, and care from the outside is also easily utilized. The beauty that really makes a difference is not increasing expensive cosmetics, but accumulating a life where the skin works healthily every day.

If this was helpful, a ♡ is encouraging. It will raise the priority of the sequel.

Collagen, Hydration, Hair & More

Sometimes I make bakuchiol serum, and sometimes I rub olive oil on my face while making dinner and check “evening skincare” off my to-do list. Now that I’m firmly in midlife, though, there’s one more thing I seem to be doing a lot more of:

Researching all the compounds that keep showing up in my social media feed.

Lately, it’s skin peptides.

Because while yes, I’m grateful for every trip around the sun, I also care about how I feel and function along the way. And when it comes to my skin, I’m definitely interested in supporting the processes that help skin stay strong, resilient, and well-hydrated over time.

If you’ve been seeing peptides everywhere lately, you’re definitely not the only one. They’re showing up in serums, moisturizers, eye creams, and all kinds of products promising smoother, firmer, healthier-looking skin. They’re also included in scalp formulas aimed at concerns like thinning, increased shedding, and reduced fullness.

Here’s the catch, though: “peptides” is a category, not an ingredient. Saying a skincare product contains peptides is a little like saying a supplement contains vitamins. Which ones? How much? And what, exactly, are they supposed to do?

Different peptides can work in very different ways, and some have a lot more research behind them than others. So before giving up valuable space on my bathroom counter – which has become my “lab” for testing everything from plastic-free toothbrushes to red light devices – I decided to find out which ones are most worth considering.

In this guide, we’ll walk through what skin peptides are, how they’re thought to work, what the research says so far, and what to look for in a formulation.

So, What Are Peptides?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids, which are the building blocks our bodies use to make proteins.

That includes proteins like collagen and elastin, which help give skin its structure, firmness, and ability to stretch and bounce back.

But peptides aren’t just tiny pieces of protein. Some also carry instructions. Peptide sequences can act as biological signals, influencing processes involved in things like repair, inflammation, and tissue remodeling. (1)

When used topically, peptides can mimic or influence some of those signals and processes.

What Do Peptides Actually Do For Your Skin?

One explanation you’ll sometimes hear is that topical peptides tell the skin to “act younger.”

That’s a shorthand way of saying that certain peptides are designed to nudge skin cells toward processes that tend to slow with age, including collagen production, repair, barrier maintenance, and the processes that help skin retain moisture. (1)

They don’t all work the same way, though. Different peptide sequences can carry very different messages.

One peptide may act as a signal involved in collagen production. Another may carry copper needed for tissue repair, and another may help slow the breakdown of structural proteins.

Depending on the peptide, those effects can translate to skin that looks a little more lifted and “bouncy.” Peptides that support barrier function may also help skin hold onto moisture better, which can mean better hydration and less dryness, roughness, or crepey texture.

So the benefits depend on which peptide is actually in the formula.

4 Types of Skin Peptides You’ll Hear About Most

There are a lot of ways to classify peptides, and some overlap between categories, but these are the four you’ll see mentioned most often in skincare. (2)

1. Signal Peptides

Signal peptides act a little like biological messages, influencing cells involved in making structural components of skin.

Some of the most well-known examples are used with the goal of supporting collagen, elastin, and other parts of the extracellular matrix. (3) For skin, that can mean skin that looks firmer and smoother, with better elasticity, softer-looking fine lines, and more “bounce.”

You’ll sometimes see ingredients such as palmitoyl tripeptide-1, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, or trademarked peptide complexes like Matrixyl in this category.

One newer example is OS-01, the peptide developed by OneSkin. The company describes it as being designed “to reverse skin’s visible biological age,” meaning it counters some of the visible effects associated with senescent, or dysfunctional aging, cells.

It has been studied for effects on collagen, hyaluronic acid, skin barrier function, and other markers associated with healthier, younger-functioning skin.

OS-01 is the peptide I decided to start with, and I’ll explain why in a minute.

2. Carrier Peptides

Instead of primarily delivering a “make more of this” type of signal, carrier peptides bind to and transport minerals involved in biological processes.

The most popular example is GHK-Cu, also known as copper tripeptide-1.

Copper is needed for several enzymes involved in tissue repair and collagen formation, and GHK-Cu has been studied for its potential role in wound healing, remodeling, inflammation, and other aspects of skin repair. (4)

3. Enzyme-Inhibiting Peptides

Instead of telling skin to make more structural proteins, some peptides may help slow processes that break those proteins down.

Certain enzymes naturally participate in the breakdown and remodeling of collagen and other components of skin. That’s a healthy and necessary process – until the balance starts shifting toward breaking down more than we rebuild.

That can happen over time as oxidative stress and other age-related changes increase the activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), a family of enzymes that break down collagen and other parts of the skin’s structural matrix. (5) At the same time, the natural inhibitors that usually help keep those enzymes in check don’t necessarily increase to match them.

Estrogen decline may play a role here too, which is especially worth knowing in midlife. (6) Lower estrogen levels after menopause have been associated with increased MMP activity along with losses in collagen, elastin, and fibroblast function.

So the goal of enzyme-inhibiting peptides isn’t to shut down normal remodeling. It’s to help restore some balance when breakdown starts outpacing repair.

That’s why some peptides are valued for helping skin build, while others may help it hold onto what it already has.

4. Neurotransmitter-Inhibiting Peptides

This category is sometimes marketed as an alternative to Botox injections. The main peptide I came across – acetyl hexapeptide-8 (Argireline) – is thought to work by mildly relaxing facial tension.

Argireline is not a neurotoxin and does not disable the nerve-muscle connection the way Botox does. It’s included in formulas to gradually and mildly dampen the signaling involved in muscle contractions that contribute to expression lines. The effect is temporary and fades when use is discontinued.

Now, my personal goal is to always support function, not work against it, so I had a lot of questions as I researched this category.

From a broader wellness perspective, not all external “calm down” signals are a problem. We take steps to inhibit inflammation when it becomes excessive. We use methods like oil cleansing to reduce excess sebum production. We massage muscles or apply magnesium oil to ease excess tension.

Facial muscles can develop increased resting tone or chronic tension as we age – some may even become physically shorter and tighter in ways that reshape our surface skin architecture. (7) These peptides might help ease some tension in those cases.

I’m still researching this category before I form a strong opinion, but I’m including it here so that you know what you’re looking at when you read ingredient labels.

✅ Where I’m Starting

Right now, there are hundreds of peptides used in skincare formulations. These are relatively large molecules, so even the most research-backed ones can’t do much if they’re not formulated in a way that helps them cross the skin barrier. (8)

They can also be sensitive to things like pH, light, heat, and interactions with other ingredients, which means keeping them stable and active in a finished product takes quite a bit of work.

You know I love a good DIY beauty recipe, but that’s a lot to sort through, so I decided to look for a formula where the stability, compatibility, and delivery challenges had already been worked out.

Why OS-01 Got My Attention

When I was eight, I simmered rose petals in water to try to make rose water. My method came surprisingly close to what actually works, but it wasn’t quite there . . . and that knowledge gap made all the difference.

When it comes to skin peptides, I think a lot of companies are still in their “simmering rose petals” era – and while I hope they continue to improve and refine their formulations, I wanted something more evidence-based.

So I looked for a company that had already figured out how to get a particular peptide where it needs to go, keep it stable, and test whether the finished product actually does what it’s supposed to do.

OneSkin – which was founded by four PhD scientists with backgrounds in things like skin regeneration and stem cell biology – screened and tested over 900 peptide sequences before identifying a lead candidate, the OS-01 peptide (Decapeptide-52).

That’s a lot of R&D.

It makes sense, though, because they weren’t just looking for a peptide that could help with one surface-level change. Instead, they were looking for one that could influence some of the cellular changes that make skin function differently as it ages.

Their focus was cellular senescence – which is when aging or damaged cells stop functioning normally but remain active. Sometimes called “zombie cells,” they can release inflammatory signals that can affect nearby cells and encourage more of them to become senescent too. Over time, that buildup can contribute to slower repair, weaker barrier function, collagen breakdown, and other changes we see in aging skin.

OS-01 was selected because it showed strong potential for interrupting part of that cycle. In subsequent lab testing, the peptide reduced senescent cells in human skin samples and dialed down some of the inflammatory signaling associated with senescence, which can help limit the effect those cells have on their neighbors. (9)

That’s what OneSkin means when it says OS-01 is designed to help reverse the visible effects of cellular senescence, helping skin look, feel, and act younger and healthier over time.

They’ve also applied the same cellular-senescence approach to the scalp, where aging follicle cells may contribute to thinning, increased shedding, and loss of density. Their hair serum is designed to support a healthier hair cycle, with the goal of reducing visible shedding and helping hair look thicker and fuller over time.

Real Skin Results

What convinced me to actually try OneSkin, though, wasn’t the laboratory claim that OS-01 could influence biological age. It was what happened when they tested whether those results translated into measurable changes in real skin.

In one double-blind study, participants used OneSkin’s moisturizer on one side of their face and the same formula without OS-01 on the other. After six weeks, the OS-01 side showed a nearly four times greater improvement in skin barrier function – meaning it did a better job holding onto moisture – and skin texture was significantly better after 12 weeks. (10)

That study design matters to me because it helps answer a question that’s surprisingly difficult with skincare: Is the hero ingredient actually doing anything, or is this just a really nice moisturizer?

The answer, at least in this small study, appears to be that OS-01 added a measurable benefit.

What I’m Testing Now

I’m not looking for a cream to do the job of sleep, nourishing food, movement, healthy hormones, or sensible sun habits. But with those foundations in place, I’m always interested in non-toxic topical options that can help my skin function better, too.

OneSkin recently sent me several products to try, including their new OS-01 Face Rich Cream, which launched this week.

I’ve only recently started using them, so this is not my OneSkin review.

Over the next few months, I’m adding their face cream, face moisturizer, eye cream, and body moisturizer to my routine while paying close attention to:

  • hydration and how well my skin holds onto moisture
  • texture and “bounce”
  • fine lines and firmness
  • and overall skin resilience

I’m not clearing everything else off my bathroom counter, though.

OneSkin says its products can be incorporated into an existing skincare routine, so for now I’m treating them as additions that still make room for a few core products I use and love. Several of you have also asked about peptides for hair thickness, so I’ll also be testing their scalp serum.

It’s not unusual for me to test products for 9+ months, 2 years, or even longer before mentioning a brand, so you might be wondering why I am now.

There are two reasons.

First, I’ve received several messages about hair thickness and specific skin concerns that peptide products are potentially a good fit for, and I wanted to create a resource for those of you who are already trying to figure out what these ingredients actually do.

Second, after spending so much time looking at the research, OS-01 is the peptide I personally decided to start with.

Lately I’ve been leaning a little too heavily on the idea that olive oil applied while making dinner counts as an evening skincare routine, but now that I’ve told all of you I’m testing this, I’m actually going to have to use it consistently.

(It really is good olive oil, though.)

If you’ve been curious about peptides and want to try OS-01 with me, you can explore OneSkin here. I’m starting my test now, and I’ll keep adding what I learn – and what I notice – as I go.

Is stretching effective for beautiful skin? A “1-minute beauty habit” to start today🌸|ポジティブストレッチ

Hello! This is Hasegawa!

“My skin hasn’t been feeling great lately…😢”

Even though I’ve reviewed my skincare routine and changed my cosmetics, my skin just won’t settle down.

At times like that, something that is surprisingly easy to overlook is “moving your body”🏃‍♀️✨.

Actually, a little bit of daily stretching is one of the habits you’ll want to incorporate when aiming for beautiful skin🌿

This time, I will explain the relationship between stretching and beautiful skin in an easy-to-understand way💆‍♀️

🌸 Beautiful skin and “blood flow” are deeply related

To maintain healthy skin, it is important that the oxygen and nutrients necessary for the skin are properly delivered✨

That is where whole-body blood flow🩸 becomes important.

If you continue with long hours of desk work💻, smartphone📱 use, or lack of exercise, your body will stiffen and blood flow will easily stagnate.

In particular, it is not uncommon for people to have stiff necks, shoulders, and backs😣

By slowly stretching your muscles and moving your body, you can expect to promote blood flow🌿

Of course, stretching alone will not solve all skin problems.

However, the perspective of “not just looking at the skin, but conditioning the whole body” is very important when thinking about beautiful skin habits!

🧘‍♀️ Stretching is also useful for “relaxation”

When thinking about beautiful skin, another thing to be conscious of is stress and sleep😴.

When you spend your days busy, you may find yourself tensing your body without realizing it.

Your shoulders might be hunched, or your breathing might be shallow…😮‍💨

If that state continues, it becomes difficult to relax both your mind and body.

That is why I recommend a relaxing stretch before bed🌙.

Breathe slowly while stretching your body to a point that feels good, without bouncing.🍃

Instead of “trying hard to stretch,” try thinking of it as a time to relax your body and say, “Thank you for your hard work today.☺️”!

Incorporating stretching as a habit to feel comfortable and relaxed is also recommended.✨

💆‍♀️ If you’re conscious of beautiful skin, try stretching your “neck and shoulders”

Let’s start with some simple stretches first.🌸

1. Slowly tilt your neck🌿

Sit with your back straight and slowly tilt your neck to the right.

Hold it comfortably where you feel a pleasant stretch along the left side of your neck.✨

Do the same for the other side.

There is no need to stretch so hard that it hurts.🙅‍♀️

It’s okay to just stretch to the point where it “feels good.”😊

2. Rotate your shoulders widely🔄

Lift both shoulders toward your ears, then rotate them widely backward.

Repeat this slowly a few times.✨

This is a stretch that is easy to incorporate even during desk work.💻🌿

3. Open your chest🌸

Clasp your hands behind your back and open your chest while pulling your shoulders back.

This is also recommended for those who tend to hunch over.😊

While taking deep breaths, try stretching comfortably.🌬️✨

You can do it right away!

⏰ Start with “1 minute a day”

When you try to start something for beautiful skin, you might think, “I have to exercise for 30 minutes every day💦” or “I have to do serious training🏋️‍♀️.”

But you don’t need to try too hard from the beginning😊

1 minute when you wake up in the morning🌅

1 minute between work or chores💻

1 minute after a bath🛁

1 minute before going to bed🌙

Let’s start with small habits like these✨

The important thing is to be able to continue without strain!

💖 Beautiful skin is not created by “skincare alone”

The condition of your skin is not determined by skincare alone.

It is related to various factors such as sleep😴, diet🥗, exercise🏃‍♀️, stress😌, and your daily rhythm🌿.

That is why, instead of just “buying expensive cosmetics💄”,

“moving your body🏃‍♀️”

“sleeping well😴”

“breathing slowly🌬️”

are daily habits you should also cherish✨

Stretching requires no special equipment and can be started immediately at home🏠

For today, why not put down your smartphone for just 1 minute📱➡️🌿

and try stretching your neck and shoulders slowly?😊

When your body relaxes, your mood feels a little lighter too.

Accumulating such small changes also leads to habits that aim for healthy skin🌸✨

A “1-minute beauty habit” you can start today💆‍♀️

Please try incorporating it into your daily life as well😊🌿

✔️ Professionals will check your “flexibility”!

If you’re thinking, “Hmm… maybe my body is stiff” or “Why have I been getting tired easily lately?”, please come to Positive Stretch at least once!

What Causes Adult Acne? 10 Correct Skincare Methods to Prevent Recurring Acne|Mana

What Causes Adult Acne? 10 Correct Skincare Methods to Prevent Recurring Acne|Mana

“Just when I thought my acne had cleared up, it appeared in the same spot again…”

“I didn’t have much acne as a teenager, but it started recurring after I became an adult.”

“I’m worried about my acne and am working hard on washing and skincare, but it’s not improving.”

There are many people who suffer from these kinds of concerns.

Adult acne is not simply caused by having “dirty skin.”

It occurs due to a combination of various factors, such as hormonal changes, sebum, clogged pores, skin irritation, and lifestyle habits.

Therefore, to prevent acne, it is important not to rely on care like “just washing” or “popping the acne that appears,” but rather to avoid over-stimulating the skin and review your daily skincare routine.

In this article, we will explain as clearly as possible the main causes of recurring adult acne and the correct skincare methods you can start today.

What are the main causes of recurring adult acne?

First, it is important to know that adult acne is not necessarily caused by just one factor.

Acne occurs when pores become clogged, sebum accumulates, and inflammation occurs there.

So, why does acne become easier to repeat as you get older?

1. Changes in hormonal balance

Hormonal changes can be involved in adult acne.

Especially for women, hormones change due to factors like the menstrual cycle, which can worsen acne.

It is also said that acne can worsen when you are feeling stressed.

If you find that “acne has increased since I got busy lately,” it is also important to review not just your skin, but your entire lifestyle.

2. Sebum and dead skin cells accumulate in pores

When sebum and old dead skin cells from the skin accumulate in the pores, the pores become prone to clogging.

If this state continues, it can lead to whiteheads or blackheads, and if further inflammation occurs, it can turn into red, swollen acne.

In short, for acne countermeasures, it is important not only to consider “what to do about existing acne,” but also to keep pores in a state where they are less likely to clog.

3. Excessive skin irritation

When acne appears,

“I must remove the sebum”

“I must remove the dirt from my pores”

Some people think this and end up scrubbing their face too hard.

However, scrubbing strongly when washing your face or repeating harsh care can put a strain on your skin.

Precisely because you have acne-prone skin, it is important to not wash too much and not scrub.

4. Dry skin

Some people think, “Acne means I shouldn’t moisturize.”

However, even if you have acne-prone skin, proper moisturizing is important if your skin is dry.

Especially when your skin is dry due to acne treatment, using a moisturizer can suppress dryness and irritation, making it easier to continue treatment.

10 Correct Skincare Methods to Prevent Recurring Acne

From here on, I will introduce 10 skincare habits to keep in mind to prevent recurring adult acne.

You don’t need to do everything perfectly at once.

First, try incorporating what you can, little by little.

1. The basic rule for face washing is to be “gentle”

When washing your face, try not to scrub your skin.

Lather the facial cleanser well and wash gently using the pads of your fingers.

After washing, use a clean towel to gently pat away moisture without rubbing your skin.

Washing your face is not a case of “the harder you scrub, the cleaner it gets.”

The important thing is not to give your skin unnecessary irritation.

2. Be careful not to over-wash your face

Even if you are concerned about sebum, avoid washing your face too many times.

Basically, wash your face a reasonable number of times, such as morning and night, according to your skin condition.

If you have been sweating, washing gently afterward is also an option.

If your skin feels tight after washing, check if you are over-washing or if the facial cleanser is right for your skin.

3. Moisturize after washing your face

Even if you are concerned about acne, don’t forget to moisturize after washing your face.

When skin is dry, it can become more prone to feeling tight or irritated.

For those prone to acne, checking for labels like “non-comedogenic” or “less likely to clog pores” when choosing products is one method.

4. Do not apply too much lotion or milky lotion

Skincare is not a case of “the more you use, the better.”

Layering many types of products such as lotion, serum, milky lotion, and cream can sometimes cause skin irritation.

First, start with a simple routine:

“Wash”
↓
“Moisturize”
↓
“Use sun protection during the day”

Try making this your basic care routine.

5. Do not scrub hard with exfoliants

When you are concerned about blackheads or rough skin, you might want to scrub your skin hard with an exfoliant.

However, if you scrub skin with acne hard, the irritation may worsen the condition.

Focus on “not damaging the skin” rather than just “removing dirt.”

6. Do not pop pimples

Avoid popping pimples with your fingers as much as possible.

I understand the urge to touch them because they bother you, but popping or pressing them firmly can prolong the healing process and lead to acne scars or hyperpigmentation.

When you have a breakout, make a conscious effort to “not touch” it.

7. Choose cosmetics that are “less likely to clog pores”

When choosing cosmetics, sunscreen, or skincare products, one method is to select products designed for acne-prone skin.

Check for labels such as “non-comedogenic,” “oil-free,” or “less likely to clog pores.”

However, these labels do not guarantee that the product will not cause acne for everyone.

It is important to use them while checking if they suit your skin.

8. Keep hair from touching your face

If your bangs or hair often touch your face, try to keep them away from your face as much as possible.

Especially if you are concerned about acne on your forehead, it is important to check if your hair care products or hair itself are touching your skin.

9. Protect against UV rays

Even when you are concerned about acne, do not forget to protect your skin from UV rays during the day.

When choosing sunscreen, it is easier to use products designed for acne-prone skin.

UV protection is an important part of skincare not only for acne itself but also for those concerned about skin discoloration after acne has healed.

10. Do not change your skincare routine frequently

When you get acne,

“Was this product not good enough?”

You might think, “I should use stronger cosmetics.”

And you may end up changing products one after another.

However, continuing to try various products in a short period can increase irritation to your skin.

For skincare, it is important not to seek results too quickly, but to continue with a method that suits your skin.

NG Skincare Habits to Avoid for Adult Acne

Contrary to the methods introduced so far, there are also habits you should avoid.

Typical examples include:

・Popping pimples
・Scrubbing hard when washing your face
・Washing your face too many times
・Not moisturizing even when your skin is dry
・Forcing yourself to use cosmetics that cause irritation
・Changing skincare products one after another in a short period

and similar actions.

In particular, because of the desire to “heal acne quickly,” rubbing or touching the skin forcefully can have the opposite effect.

What is important in skincare for acne-prone skin is not to overdo it.

If Acne Still Recurs, See a Dermatologist

“I keep getting acne even though I’ve reviewed my skincare routine”

“I get large, painful pimples”

“Acne leaves marks after it heals”

In such cases, do not try to solve it only with self-taught skincare, but consider consulting a dermatologist.

In particular, acne that swells significantly deep in the skin or acne that tends to leave marks may not be adequately addressed by over-the-counter skincare alone.

Acne is often thought of as something that “will heal eventually,” but medically, it is a skin disease that can be treated.

The Japanese Dermatological Association also treats acne as a skin disease called “acne vulgaris” and has published guidelines for its treatment.

Summary | Adult Acne Countermeasures Start with “Treating Your Skin Gently”

Adult acne is caused by a combination of various factors, including hormonal changes, sebum, clogged pores, stress, and skin irritation.

Therefore, it is not as simple as thinking that “removing all sebum is good” or “popping a pimple will make it heal faster.”

First, let’s focus on these 10 points:

1. Wash gently
2. Do not over-wash
3. Moisturize properly
4. Do not rub your skin
5. Do not touch your acne
6. Choose cosmetics that are less likely to clog pores
7. Keep your hair from touching your face too much
8. Use sun protection
9. Do not change your skincare products constantly
10. Consult a dermatologist if necessary

Try to keep these 10 things in mind.

The important thing is not to panic and rush your care only when a pimple appears, but to review your daily skincare routine little by little.

The more you think “I want it to heal quickly,” the more likely you are to touch your skin or wash it too vigorously.

However, the basic approach to adult acne care is to reduce irritation and treat your skin with care rather than attacking it.

If you are suffering from recurring acne, consulting a dermatologist is one option before you continue worrying that “my skincare routine might be wrong.”

Find the care that suits your skin condition and aim to gradually build a skin environment that is less prone to recurring acne.
