Healing Earth brings transformative wellness to Zanzibar's Shah Palace

Healing Earth brings transformative wellness to Zanzibar’s Shah Palace

Zanzibar. Zanzibar’s wellness landscape is poised for a remarkable evolution as Shah Palace Hotel prepares to unveil its signature spa in partnership with Healing Earth, one of Africa’s most distinguished wellness and skincare brands.

With over 30 years of experience curating transformative spa journeys across the continent’s most celebrated luxury establishments, Healing Earth’s arrival marks a defining moment for the island’s hospitality sector.

The brand’s impressive portfolio spans an elite constellation of Africa’s finest properties, including Belmond, Thanda Safari, andBeyond, Wilderness Safaris, MalaMala Game Reserve, A&K Sanctuary Retreats, Elewana Collection, Serena Hotels & Resorts, Tintswalo Collection, Marriott International, and Cocoon Collection.

This strategic partnership positions Shah Palace among East Africa’s most prestigious wellness destinations.

A sanctuary born from cultural fusion

What sets the Shah Palace spa apart is Healing Earth’s commitment to creating an entirely bespoke wellness experience, one that has never been offered anywhere else in their global portfolio.

This is a truly unique wellness journey that Zanzibar has not yet seen, combining therapeutic innovation with cultural authenticity at a level that establishes a new standard for the island’s luxury hospitality sector.

The brand’s wellness architects are meticulously crafting signature rituals that weave together three distinct therapeutic traditions: the time-honoured Middle Eastern healing practices that have long defined Healing Earth’s award-winning treatments, the ancient Swahili coastal wellness traditions of Tanzania and Zanzibar, and contemporary African botanical therapy.

This cultural alchemy will manifest in treatments that celebrate Zanzibar’s aromatic heritage, clove, cardamom, cinnamon, and nutmeg-infused body therapies; coconut and hibiscus skin rituals inspired by coastal purification ceremonies; coffee and baobab exfoliations that honour East African traditions; and stone healing techniques passed down through generations of Swahili healers.

The result is a wellness menu unlike any other: traditional Arabic ceremonies reimagined with Zanzibari spices, African grounding rituals enhanced with island botanicals, and signature Healing Earth treatments elevated through indigenous Tanzanian healing wisdom.

Architectural elegance meets therapeutic innovation

The spa itself reflects Shah Palace’s core vision of intimate luxury and architectural refinement. Ocean-facing treatment rooms, comprising two couples’ suites and two individual sanctuaries, offer panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, allowing the rhythm of the waves to become part of each therapeutic journey.

High ceilings adorned with handcrafted chandeliers create an atmosphere of spacious serenity, while strategically placed mirrors amplify natural light and enhance the sense of tranquil expansiveness. What truly sets Shah Palace apart and establishes a new wellness benchmark for Zanzibar is a pioneering feature: the island’s first dedicated Himalayan salt saunas.

Each gender-specific changing sanctuary features its own private sauna with a complete Himalayan salt crystal back wall, a therapeutic innovation not yet seen anywhere else on the archipelago.

This groundbreaking amenity elevates Shah Palace beyond the wellness offerings currently available in Zanzibar, positioning it alongside the world’s most sophisticated spa destinations.

Beyond the treatment room: wellness as a way of life

Healing Earth’s philosophy extends beyond conventional spa experiences.

At Shah Palace, treatments will transcend the walls of the spa itself, with therapists offering bespoke rituals in the privacy of guest suites or on the beach, where the sound of the ocean and the warmth of the sand become integral elements of the healing journey.

This flexibility reflects Healing Earth’s holistic approach to wellness, one that recognizes that true restoration occurs when treatments align with each guest’s natural rhythms and preferences.

Whether experiencing a sunrise body scrub on the beach or a moonlit aromatherapy massage in a private villa, guests will discover wellness woven seamlessly into every aspect of their Shah Palace experience.

A brand built on African wisdom and global excellence

Healing Earth’s foundation rests on principles that resonate deeply with contemporary luxury travellers: authenticity, sustainability, and cultural respect.

The brand’s award-winning skincare range features 95% sustainable, refillable packaging, with formulations that are biodegradable, reef-safe, and crafted from ethically sourced African botanicals.

This environmental consciousness aligns perfectly with Shah Palace’s commitment to responsible luxury and community stewardship.

Elevating Zanzibar’s wellness tourism narrative

As wellness travel continues its ascent across East Africa, the Healing Earth spa at Shah Palace arrives at a pivotal moment. Today travellers seek more than relaxation, they desire authentic cultural immersion, environmental responsibility, and transformative experiences rooted in place and tradition.

This is not merely the opening of another luxury spa; it is the introduction of a new paradigm in African wellness, one that honours the past while embracing the future.

The shores of Zanzibar are about to witness something extraordinary: a wellness experience that captures the island’s essence in every touch, every scent, every healing moment.

How Cannabis is Shaping Wellness Trends in 2026

How Cannabis is Shaping Wellness Trends in 2026

As we navigate into 2026, cannabis is no longer considered the rebellious plant of the counterculture or the recreational indulgence of weekend relaxation. It has boldly stepped into the mainstream wellness arena, reshaping how people approach health, self-care, and holistic living. This isn’t a subtle shift, it’s a full-blown wellness revolution powered by cannabis, and the momentum is electrifying.

The narrative around cannabis has evolved drastically over the past decade. Today, it’s about unlocking potential beyond just getting high by harnessing its therapeutic properties to enhance physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. From innovative products to integrative wellness practices, cannabis is becoming a cornerstone of modern health culture.

One of the most exciting developments in 2026 is how cannabis is being integrated into personalized wellness routines. No longer a one-size-fits-all approach, consumers are using data-driven insights and expert guidance to tailor cannabis use for anxiety relief, chronic pain management, sleep enhancement, and even mood stabilization. Wellness practitioners and medical professionals are embracing cannabis as a versatile tool — one that complements yoga, meditation, nutrition, and other health modalities.

The market itself reflects this transformation. We’re seeing a surge in cannabis-infused wellness products that go far beyond the typical flower and vape pens. Think about cannabinoid-enhanced skincare that targets inflammation and aging, functional beverages designed for calm focus or deep relaxation, and nutritional supplements that support the body’s endocannabinoid system. These products are crafted with precision, merging science with nature to meet the sophisticated demands of today’s health-conscious consumers.

What makes cannabis so compelling for wellness in 2026 is its holistic impact. It’s all about fostering balance in mind and body. Research increasingly reveals how cannabinoids interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which plays a critical role in regulating mood, appetite, sleep, and immune function. This insight positions cannabis as a natural ally in preventative health, not merely reactive treatment.

Moreover, cannabis is fueling new wellness experiences. Wellness retreats, spas, and fitness studios are incorporating cannabis-based therapies into their offerings. From cannabinoid-infused massage oils to guided meditation sessions enhanced by microdosing, these experiences cater to a growing demographic eager to explore alternative pathways to wellbeing.

But the wellness wave isn’t just consumer-driven. Cannabis is influencing broader cultural attitudes toward health and self-care. It encourages a more compassionate, mindful approach to managing stress and chronic conditions.  It is an approach that prioritizes quality of life and mental health in tandem with physical wellness.

Of course, challenges remain, including regulatory complexities and the need for more robust scientific validation. Yet the progress in 2026 is undeniable. Cannabis is no longer on the fringe but firmly planted at the heart of wellness innovation.

There is no doubt that cannabis is shaping the future of health. Not by replacing traditional medicine, but by complementing it. This offers new tools, new experiences, and new hope for a balanced, vibrant life. The green revolution in wellness is here, and it’s only just beginning.

The Biggest Wellness Trends of 2026

The Biggest Wellness Trends of 2026

Wellness is on everyone’s mind. The industry, which McKinsey & Company reports is currently worth $2 trillion, is continuing to dominate our collective interest. But what does wellness look like in 2026?

As we start to look ahead to next year, the state of wellness is all about growth and expansion. You can expect to find the following in the wellness space: Advancements in longevity (we mean legitimate, science-based ones over viral TikTok moments) and how we approach GLP-1s, traveling with the sole purpose of working out our bodies and/or minds, and adding nutrients to more interesting and fun drink formats.

Below are the six wellness trends experts predict will be huge for 2026. Scroll through to see which ones should be on your radar.

Private Members Club: Wellness Edition

Private clubs have taken over as our proverbial third space. For 2026, these clubs are expanding more than ever into wellness spaces. Jonathan Leary, CEO and founder of Remedy Place, tells Vogue he sees private wellness members clubs becoming the number one destination for milestone celebrations (think birthdays, bachelorette parties, etc.) and personalized wellness programs that focus on more proactive measures of self-care.

But most importantly, Leary says what will really drive people to wellness members clubs is their hunger for a tranquil space away from all the digital noise. “They are the remedy to so many of the challenges we’re facing in the modern world,” he says. “People don’t feel good, and people are lonely. The rise of AI and digital connection is only increasing the need for real, in-person experiences.”

“We are all craving something real,” agrees Alex Feldman, cofounder of wellness members club Saint. “The world has become so digitized and screen-obsessed that the most radical thing now is to actually feel something—to put your feet on real stone or to sit in a cedar-clad room with your phone completely out of reach.”

Saint, a private sauna and ice bath studio opening later this year in New York City, plans to lean more into personalized experiences for clients to give a more luxe private experience. “It is not about socializing and stereotypical wellness practices,” adds Amanda Hensen, cofounder of Saint, “but rather an intentional separation from the chaos of city life and an opportunity to reconnect to our inner stillness.”

The Fitness Travel Boom

From the viral UCPA tennis adult summer camp in Chamonix to the ultimate luxe surf retreat with Surf Synergy Costa Rica, taking a vacation to reset will take on a whole new meaning in 2026 with the rise of fitness travel. According to a recent 2025 wellness report done by McKinsey & Company, the demand for in-person services such as boutique fitness classes has gone up in the travel space. The report states that 60% of consumers who traveled for health and wellness treatments in 2024 will continue to do so in future travels, and 30% of those who spent money on such activities would gladly spend more the next year.

Co-founder of REFY shares her beauty and wellness non-negotiables for 2026 – Emirates Woman

Co-founder of REFY shares her beauty and wellness non-negotiables for 2026 – Emirates Woman

Beauty

The cover star of our January Wellness issue – beauty mogul behind REFY Jess Hunt – shares what her beauty and wellness non-negotiables are for 2026.

Hunt reveals her morning routine, her nighttime rituals and what beauty product is always in her bag. Here, she also tells Emirates Woman where she stands on the cold plunge trend.

What’s the one non-negotiable step in your morning wellness routine?

The one non-negotiable in my morning wellness routine would have to be my morning journal. I feel like this sets me up for the day and puts me in the best mindset, ready to take on whatever my day holds for me.

Beyond aesthetics, what is the core feeling you want REFY to give to its users?

When I built REFY, my mission was to encourage people to feel like their most confident selves. So confidence for sure.

What’s the one beauty product that’s always in your bag?

The one beauty product always in my bag, probably my REFY Lip Gloss.

How do you mentally switch off from founder-mode in the evenings?

To switch off from founder-mode in the evenings – this is something I’m trying to get better at – but my new thing is putting on some relaxing music, maybe changing the lights, putting on some candles, and just really trying to create that wellness, calm vibe.

What does wellness mean to you as a beauty expert?

Wellness means everything to me. I think this has been something I focused on so much the past couple years. I feel like without feeling good on the inside, I don’t look as good on the outside, and I also can’t perform to my best. So taking care of myself is number one.

The key to making a “5-minute makeup” routine look polished?

The key to making a five-minute makeup routine looking polished would have to be just products that do all of the hard work for you. That was the whole reason why I created REFY in the first place is to completely simplify my routine. And one product in particular is the Duo Brush. I use that for absolutely everything. And yeah, it just creates the most flawless finish every time.

We’re thrilled REFY is launching in Dubai. What about the Dubai beauty scene inspired this move?

I’ve wanted to bring REFY to Dubai for the longest time. We have the most incredible community here, and the timing had to be perfect. And of course, now is the right time, and above everything, I feel like the UAE in general are just so knowledgeable when it comes to beauty, so the fact that REFY has been received so well means so so much, because I feel like you guys are truly the experts.

A wellness trend you’re loving?

A wellness trend that I’m loving right now, and it seems obvious, is enough sleep. I want to be getting anywhere from eight hours a night, because I always feel my best when I have a great sleep, and then one that I’d like to leave behind, probably the whole ice bath situation. I think if it works for you, then great. But for me, I just do not enjoy that.

What’s your New Year’s Resolution?

I would say a big thing for me every single year is just trying to be 1% better, so setting some goals and just proving to yourself that you can do something that might be hard or might be a little bit outside of your comfort zone, and it can start so small, whether it is just having a better morning routine, or whether it is making more time for yourself, then make that a priority, because it truly has an impact on everything in your life.

Top Wellness And Skincare Trends To Watch In 2026, According To Experts | Beauty News

Top Wellness And Skincare Trends To Watch In 2026, According To Experts | Beauty News

Last Updated:December 30, 2025, 15:32 IST

From barrier-first Ayurvedic skincare to microplastic-free beauty and skin longevity, discover the key wellness and skincare trends shaping 2026, according to industry experts.

Across Ayurveda-led brands and modern skincare innovators, a shared narrative is emerging: healing over hacking, ritual over reaction, and integrity over instant results

As 2026 approaches, wellness and skincare are moving away from excess and acceleration, toward intention, repair, and long-term balance. Across Ayurveda-led brands and modern skincare innovators, a shared narrative is emerging: healing over hacking, ritual over reaction, and integrity over instant results. Insights from Rajni Ohri, Founder of Ohria Ayurveda, and Nitin Jain, Founder of La Pink, reveal how 2026 will redefine beauty and well-being, inside and out.

Barrier-First Skincare Takes Centre Stage

According to Rajni Ohri, 2026 marks a return to depth over speed. Consumers are becoming cautious of aggressive formulations and are instead embracing barrier-first, Ayurvedic-infused skincare that prioritises repair and resilience. Ingredients such as ashwagandha, manjistha, and licorice are being thoughtfully paired with modern efficacy standards, offering plant-based alternatives that meet dermatologist-approved expectations without compromising purity.

This shift reflects a broader move toward introspective wellness, where protection, nourishment, and long-term skin health matter more than quick visible change.

Beauty From Within Gains Momentum

Beyond topical care, ingestible Ayurveda is emerging as a defining wellness category. Ohri points to growing acceptance of the gut–skin axis, with adaptogens, herbal shots, functional oils, and staples like triphala becoming part of everyday beauty routines. As people seek credible, science-aligned ingestibles, brands rooted in classical knowledge are stepping in to meet modern needs without dilution.

Stress-Supportive Beauty Becomes Essential

The mind–skin connection is no longer a niche concept. Stress-supportive beauty through calming oils, grounding aromas, sleep rituals, and adaptogen-rich formulations is becoming central to skincare routines. Beauty, Ohri notes, is increasingly viewed as nervous system care, offering emotional regulation alongside visible results.

Ritual-Based Living Makes a Return

Perhaps the most defining shift of 2026 is the return to ritual. Practices like self-abhyanga, warm oil scalp massages, mindful mornings, and simplified routines are becoming anchors in daily life. This isn’t about nostalgia, it reflects a collective desire to reconnect with what genuinely sustains health over time.

“In 2026, wellness is about doing what truly heals, not doing more,” says Ohri. “Hybrid Ayurveda where tradition meets science is the new frontier, nourishing the gut, mind, and skin barrier together.”

Microplastic-Free Skincare Becomes Non-Negotiable

From a modern skincare lens, Nitin Jain highlights a parallel awakening: microplastic awareness. Ingredients once used for texture and longevity are now under scrutiny as studies reveal microplastics in human blood and brain tissue. In India, dermatologists are increasingly linking repeated exposure to inflammation and barrier disruption.

As a result, microplastic-free skincare is rapidly shifting from a niche preference to a baseline expectation.

From Glow to Longevity

This awareness is reshaping aesthetics. Jain points to the rise of “butter skin”, soft, nourished, resilient skin that reflects internal health rather than artificial shine. Alongside it is minimal skincare, where fewer, transparent, high-performance products replace overcrowded routines.

The long-term focus? Skin longevity supporting barrier repair, microbiome balance, and graceful ageing rather than chasing instant brightness.

The Rise of Regenerative Actives

Looking ahead, Jain identifies PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) as a hero ingredient poised to dominate skincare in 2026. Known for its regenerative and repair-driven properties, PDRN aligns with the broader shift toward resilience, recovery, and long-term skin strength.

The Bigger Picture

Together, these insights reveal a unified direction for 2026: wellness and skincare rooted in honesty, prevention, and depth. Whether through Ayurvedic rituals or modern regenerative science, the future belongs to approaches that respect the body’s intelligence and support it over time.

In an era of overload, the next chapter of beauty and wellness is quieter, slower and far more meaningful.

The Holistic Path to Wellness: Fitness, Self-Care, and Living Well

The Holistic Path to Wellness: Fitness, Self-Care, and Living Well

There’s something about feeling good that’s hard to pin down. Not just physically, but across the board. Your energy levels out, decisions get easier, small problems don’t snowball. Most people experience this in fragments, maybe a good stretch of days here and there. Then it falls apart. The issue isn’t usually motivation or willpower. It’s thinking about health as separate checkboxes instead of seeing how everything connects. Better physical fitness often brings mental clarity along with it. Managing stress properly makes gym routines easier to maintain. Once you recognize these links instead of treating each area in isolation, wellness becomes less about nailing perfection and more about finding what genuinely works. Here’s how fitness, self-care, and mindset fit together into something sustainable.

Understanding Holistic Wellness

When stress hits, shoulders tense up. This happens to everyone, even when they don’t realize it. Poor sleep destroys your patience. Skip a meal and suddenly working out feels like climbing a mountain. These things aren’t separate problems needing different fixes. They’re linked in ways that become clear once you pay attention. Taking a whole-person approach means noticing these connections. Good sleep does more than provide rest. It sharpens decision-making, stabilizes moods, and influences weight management. Exercise goes beyond building fitness. It burns through stress hormones, sharpens focus. Relationships affect measurable health outcomes. Stop trying to fix each issue separately. Make choices that support multiple areas simultaneously. Small shifts build on each other because everything influences the rest.

Building a Strong Foundation Through Fitness

Moving regularly does more than tone muscles or drop weight. It generates energy reserves for daily demands, keeps emotional responses steadier, builds resilience for handling pressure. But here’s what really matters. The program you actually do consistently beats the theoretically optimal one you abandon after three weeks. A solid foundation typically needs:

  • Strength training for muscle maintenance and bone health
  • Cardiovascular exercise for heart function and endurance
  • Flexibility work to preserve range of motion
  • Recovery time for your body to adapt and rebuild

Showing up three times a week that you can actually maintain beats planning five sessions that end up overwhelming you. Location plays a surprisingly big role here. When your workout spot fits conveniently into your routine, excuses start to disappear. Choosing a local gym like Lane Cove gym, or any gym near your home or office, removes that “it’s too far” barrier that kills most good intentions before they even start. How far you travel to exercise often determines whether it becomes a lasting habit or just another item on your to-do list.

Self-Care Beyond the Basics

Actual self-care doesn’t photograph well. Sleep matters more than expensive skincare. Eating balanced meals without making it a whole moral thing beats rigid diet rules. Handling stress before you hit the wall means using your vacation days and declining requests that drain you dry. Sleep influences immune response, cognitive sharpness, conflict management, and countless other functions. You can’t supplement or hack your way around needing proper rest. Nutrition shouldn’t be complicated. Focus on whole foods most days, get adequate protein, stay hydrated, stop treating carbs like the enemy. The anxiety around eating perfectly probably damages you more than flexible eating ever would. Setting boundaries qualifies as self-care. Protecting your time and energy isn’t selfishness. It’s maintenance so you have something left for what matters.

Confidence, Intimacy, and Personal Wellbeing

Confidence and intimacy rarely show up in wellness articles, even though they clearly impact overall health. How you feel about yourself shapes everything else in your life. Real confidence isn’t fearlessness. It’s having stable enough self-worth that other people’s opinions don’t constantly dictate your choices or sense of value. That foundation shifts how you handle boundaries, take risks, build connections with others. Sexual wellness deserves space in these conversations too, partnered or not. It links to stress relief, body confidence, and general life satisfaction. Getting educated about this dimension of health is practical, not indulgent. Resources like Pleasure Chest provide actual education and quality products that help people explore this aspect of wellbeing with real information instead of fumbling around in the dark. Including intimacy in wellness discussions treats it like the legitimate health component it is instead of something separate or shameful.

Creating Healthy Habits That Stick

Why do most wellness programs crash and burn? They demand massive changes immediately. Overhaul everything on Monday, maintain crushing intensity forever, then feel like garbage when regular life makes that laughably impossible. Change that actually sticks works differently.

Want better hydration? Fill one glass every morning before touching your phone. Need more activity? Walk for ten minutes after lunch. These seem pointlessly small. That’s precisely why they succeed. No heroic willpower required. No perfect conditions needed. Once they run on autopilot, you can stack more on top. Setting realistic goals requires brutal honesty about current capacity. Stressful season? Maybe just maintaining what you’re already doing is enough without adding new pressures. Haven’t exercised in years? Start with walks, not bootcamp classes. Consistency crushes perfection every time. You’ll miss days. Everyone does. What matters is returning to your patterns without the guilt spiral.

Mindset: The Missing Link in Wellness

Someone can nail every physical aspect and still feel miserable if their self-talk is vicious. Mindset isn’t forced positivity or pretending everything’s fine. It’s how you treat yourself when things get rough. Relying on motivation means you only take care of yourself when you feel inspired, which definitely won’t be during the times you need it most. Building systems that function without motivation keeps progress moving through hard patches. Routines that work regardless of your mood create actual stability. Resilience builds through practice, through dealing with challenges and proving to yourself you can handle difficult situations. It’s not about being bulletproof. Research backs this up consistently. Self-compassion produces better outcomes than self-criticism for creating change. People who respond to setbacks with kindness improve more than those who tear themselves apart. Harsh inner dialogue doesn’t motivate improvement. It creates misery, which usually leads straight to quitting. Chasing progress instead of perfection lets you actually move forward instead of staying frozen.

Designing a Lifestyle That Supports Living Well

Wellness can’t exist in a vacuum separate from actual life. Job demands, relationships, finances, family obligations, your current life phase, all of this determines what’s genuinely doable. The goal isn’t cramming your life into some perfect wellness blueprint. It’s building practices that work within real constraints and limitations.

Balance keeps shifting based on what’s happening:

  • High pressure work stretches might mean abbreviated workouts and basic meal prep
  • Raising kids might transform fitness into active playtime and self-care into stolen moments
  • Health struggles or loss might reduce everything to basic functioning, and that’s perfectly valid

Work, relationships, rest, recreation all need breathing room. When one dominates too long, the others deteriorate. They don’t need equal distribution, but each requires minimum attention to keep things from collapsing. Your methods need evolution. What worked at 25 probably needs adjustment at 45. What was doable before major life shifts likely needs modification after. Willingness to adapt your approach enables long-term sustainability instead of rigid attachment to outdated methods.

Making Wellness Last

Holistic wellness isn’t a finish line you cross. It’s continuous attention to what’s needed and actually responding to it. Fitness that energizes instead of depletes. Self-care that genuinely supports function. Mindset that permits being human with all the messiness that includes. These elements working in concert instead of battling each other makes the real difference. No universal formula exists because everyone faces different circumstances, obstacles, priorities. Starting from your actual current position matters more than starting from where you imagine you should be. Building gradually gives changes time to root properly. Adjusting as circumstances shift keeps everything relevant to your life. Sustainable wellness isn’t flawless execution. It’s consistently doing enough of what actually works within the messy reality of daily life. That’s what living well looks like in practice, and it’s far more accessible than most wellness marketing wants you to believe.

How Ancient Indian Spices Are Shaping Modern Preventive Wellness

How Ancient Indian Spices Are Shaping Modern Preventive Wellness

{By: Cyril Feuillebois}

In today’s fast-paced urban lifestyle, wellness is often treated as a response rather than a responsibility, something we turn to only when discomfort appears. Traditional Indian health systems approached this very differently. Wellness was viewed as a continuous state of balance, shaped by daily rituals, mindful nourishment, and an intuitive understanding of the body. At the heart of this philosophy was the kitchen, where spices were not merely culinary enhancers but powerful tools of preventive care.

The Kitchen As The First Wellness Space

For generations, Indian households relied on spices such as turmeric, clove, cinnamon, cumin, cardamom, and saffron for their functional benefits. These ingredients played an integral role in maintaining immunity, supporting digestion, improving circulation, and enhancing skin vitality. Turmeric was valued for its anti-inflammatory properties, clove for its antimicrobial action, cinnamon for metabolic support, and saffron for emotional balance and radiance. What is noteworthy today is not a rediscovery of these spices, but a renewed respect for how thoughtfully they were woven into everyday life.

Preventive Wellness Over Reactive Solutions

Modern wellness is increasingly shifting from treatment-driven solutions to preventive approaches. Rising concerns around stress, chronic fatigue, inflammation, digestive imbalance, and premature aging have prompted individuals to seek gentler, long-term ways to support health. Spice-led wellness fits seamlessly into this narrative. When used intentionally and in the right formulations, spices work in harmony with the body, supporting its natural rhythms rather than overriding them. Their effects may be subtle, but over time, they create resilience.

Extending Ancient Wisdom Into Skincare

This philosophy is now extending beyond nutrition into skincare and holistic self-care. Ancient practices recognised that the skin is a reflection of internal balance. Dullness, sensitivity, inflammation, and early aging were seen as signals rather than surface-level concerns. Today, modern formulations are bridging traditional spice wisdom with contemporary research to ensure safety, absorption, and efficacy. Spice-based actives, when thoughtfully developed, can stimulate circulation, strengthen the skin barrier, encourage detoxification, and support cellular renewal.

Ritual-Based Wellness In Modern Retreats

In wellness environments such as Swasthya Retreat, this approach is interpreted through carefully designed rituals where spice-infused therapies support relaxation and restoration without excess. The focus is not on dramatic transformation, but on gently recalibrating the body and mind, allowing guests to experience how preventive practices feel when applied with intention and restraint.

Traditional wellness systems also embraced individuality. Health was never defined by a universal standard, but by balance unique to each person’s constitution, environment, and emotional state. This perspective feels especially relevant today, as wellness culture often promotes perfection rather than presence. Preventive care rooted in spice knowledge encourages awareness over correction and consistency over extremes.

As modern life continues to test our physical and emotional reserves, the answers may not lie in innovation alone, but in refinement. The journey from kitchen to skincare reminds us that wellness is not a trend to be followed, but a way of life to be sustained, quietly, mindfully, and with balance at its core.

K-beauty’s next chapter centres on ‘whole self’ wellness, according to Olive Young report

SEOUL – South Korea’s beauty industry is shifting from surface-level aesthetics to a broader pursuit of personal balance, according to a trend report from CJ Olive Young that frames 2026 around a single concept: feeling whole.

The country’s largest beauty retailer released its “2026 Trend Keywords” report on Dec 19, using the acronym “fullmoon” as a metaphor for wholeness, the overarching theme shaping beauty and wellness consumption through 2025 and 2026.

The report outlines eight sub-trends reflecting how younger consumers, particularly those aged 15 to 24, are redefining self-care as a daily, integrated practice rather than an occasional indulgence.

At the core is the rise of “early wellness”, a shift that sees teenagers and young adults proactively managing sleep, stress and skin health.

Olive Young’s purchasing data shows double-digit annual growth in wellness product consumption among this age group since 2022, signaling a normalisation of health-focused routines well before adulthood.

In place of rigid regimens, consumers favour what the report describes as “healthy pleasure” — easy, enjoyable wellness habits.

Functional drinks, gummies and snack-style supplements are gaining traction, as are sleep-related products.

Sales of sleep health supplements at Olive Young reportedly surged more than 300 per cent year-over-year, with melatonin leading demand alongside ingredients such as GABA and vitamin B derivatives.

Wellness is also being folded into beauty itself. Products infused with vitamins and minerals now span skin care, body and hair care, allowing consumers to address health concerns without adding steps to their routines.

Makeup, too, is evolving. Hybrid products that combine colour with barrier care and soothing ingredients are driving the growth of “skincare-focused makeup”, blurring the line between treatment and cosmetics.

The report suggests shoppers increasingly evaluate makeup based on ingredients as much as pigmentation or coverage, pushing brands toward naturally derived formulations and dermatology-inspired color cosmetics.

Beyond wellness, the report highlights trends including Generation Z’s experimental approach to luxury, the merging of aesthetic procedures with home care, and the growing role of AI-driven personalisation.

Together, they point to a beauty market less about transformation — and more about alignment. THE KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
