Top Fou Products for a Quick, Natural Makeup Look

Top Fou Products for a Quick, Natural Makeup Look

There’s something undeniably chic about the natural, “your skin but better” makeup look. Fresh, softly radiant skin. Lips that look hydrated instead of heavily made up. A touch of colour on the cheeks that makes you appear instantly healthier. It is the kind of beauty that works whether you’re dashing out for the school run, jumping on a Zoom meeting or heading to a long lunch. It suits everyone, at any age, and on any day of the week.

But the real appeal is how quick it is. No heavy layers, no complicated technique, no need to be a makeup artist. Just a few clever products, a couple of taps and swirls with your fingers, and you’re out the door looking like the most rested, polished version of yourself.

At The Carousel, we love beauty that feels effortless. So, we’ve put together five of the most talked about and searched for products right now. From cult Australian staples to viral glow boosters loved by celebrities. All designed to help you create that natural, radiant look with minimal effort. Simply swipe, dab, blend and glow.

1. Lucas’ Papaw Remedies Ointment

We must start with an Australian icon. Lucas’ Papaw Ointment is the quiet achiever in almost every handbag for a reason. It is one of the easiest ways to add natural shine and moisture without looking like you have makeup on at all. Tap it over the lips for a soft, hydrated finish, or press a tiny amount onto the high points of your cheekbones for a believable, balmy glow. It also smooths any dry patches before you apply base products, helping your makeup sit better. Simple, reliable and very Australian.

2. A Few Options For a Foundation

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter

Hollywood Flawless Filter (available at Mecca) has earned its cult status for one simple reason, it gives the skin an instant, believable glow without any effort. It’s a favourite of celebrities like Gigi Hadid, and Sabrina Carpenter has even shown how she uses a few swipes across her cheeks to boost her natural radiance. The formula sits somewhere between a sheer tint and a liquid illuminator, creating a soft, luminous finish that lifts the complexion in seconds. You can wear it on its own, mix it with your base, or tap a little onto the high points of the face when you need a quick, healthy-looking glow. The effect is fresh, smooth and quietly polished, perfect for a natural, light, glowy makeup look.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

For a naturally radiant finish that still looks like real skin, Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation is one of the most beloved formulas in the beauty world. It has been used on Kim Kardashian for years, thanks to its ability to create that soft, seamless glow that reads beautifully both in person and on camera. Makeup artists love it because it evens out the complexion without ever feeling heavy or mask-like, and it blends so easily you can smooth it on with your fingers and be done. Kendall Jenner has also shared her love for Armani’s base products, which only adds to the foundation’s cult status. If you want a polished, luminous look that stays light, fresh and low-effort, Luminous Silk is one of the easiest ways to get there.

Naked Sundays BeautyScreen SPF50 Peptide Foundation Tint

The Beauty Screen SPF50 Peptide Foundation Tint (another Mecca best seller), is one of those clever products that quietly does everything you need for a fresh, easy makeup day. The texture feels silky and breathable. It gives a soft, balanced finish that evens out the complexion while still looking bare-faced and relaxed. It also allows you to skip a couple of steps in your routine, thanks to the built-in SPF and skincare ingredients that leave the skin looking smooth and well-prepped. And, it was even used on Lindsay Lohan for a recent event, which shows how naturally it sits on the skin while still keeping the look effortless. If your goal is healthy looking skin with almost no work, this tint fits beautifully into a light, glowy routine.

3. MCoBeauty XtendLash Mascara

If you ask any Australian beauty lover (including celeb fan Margot Robbie) to name a homegrown essential, this mascara almost always makes the cut. Its clever tubular formula wraps each lash individually, creating that unmistakable “your lashes but better” finish Australia does so well. Lightweight, smudge-proof and designed to rinse off with warm water, it slips into an everyday routine without ever feeling heavy.

Available in black, black-brown and clear, it keeps things soft and natural, neat and clump-free lash moment. XtendLash doesn’t aim for faux-lash drama. It lengthens, defines and separates in a way that feels almost invisible, as though your real lashes have simply been lifted and tinted.

For minimal makeup days, it’s a quiet overachiever. No flakes, no smudging, no fuss. Just clean, healthy-looking lashes that wash away effortlessly and look polished with barely any effort.

4. Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush

Sephora Exclusive, Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Liquid Blush has become one of the internet’s most-loved beauty staples, and once you try it yourself, it’s easy to understand why. Created by Selena Gomez, the brand focuses on easy-to-wear, inclusive products that slot effortlessly into everyday routines, and this blush is a standout. The featherlight formula taps onto the cheeks and blends seamlessly with your fingers, giving a natural, skin-like flush that looks as though it’s part of your complexion. It never dries down heavy or powdery, and the colour stays soft, fresh and flattering. When you want a quick touch of brightness without feeling like you’re wearing much at all, this blush delivers a healthy, glowy lift in seconds.

5. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

For days when you want your skin to look fresh without doing a full routine, the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is one of the easiest ways to pull everything together. Makeup artists use it on celebrities like Beyonce and Meghan Markle to create that naturally bright, well rested look without piling on product. The texture is soft and blendable, so you can tap it under the eyes or over any redness with your fingers and it disappears seamlessly into the skin. It gives just enough coverage to even things out while keeping your complexion glowy and real. Quick, lightweight and effortless, it fits perfectly into a natural makeup look and makes you look polished in seconds.

Former NHS GP urges 'try £37 routine for fine lines before botox'

Former NHS GP urges ‘try £37 routine for fine lines before botox’

Shoppers are seeing a difference with the Dr Sam’s Radiance Kit (Image: Dr Sam’s) This article contains affiliate links, we will receive a commission on any sales we generate from it. Learn more

A former NHS GP has encouraged individuals to trial a three-month skincare regime ‘before considering Botox’. Dr Sam Bunting, a Harley Street dermatologist and former host of TLC’s Extreme Beauty Disasters, believes those contemplating cosmetic procedures will be ‘pleasantly surprised’ by the outcomes.

Dr Sam, who also founded the dermatologist-backed skincare brand Dr Sam’s, has stated that now is the ‘perfect time’ to embark on a fresh skincare routine in preparation for the New Year. Given that skin requires six weeks to regenerate, those investing in their skincare regimen now could achieve a radiant, rejuvenated complexion by 2026. With this in mind, Sam has created her very own £37 Radiance Kit, a six-week kit she says will help skin glow again.

The Radiance Kit can be all yours for £37 (Image: Dr Sam’s)

The updated Radiance Kit combines five of the brand’s most popular formulations to address the appearance of fine lines, dull complexions and uneven skin tone. Compact and travel-sized, the products within this glow-boosting routine pledge a fortnight of noticeable results in one gift-ready package.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Dr Sam said: “I tend to think of skincare prep in blocks of six weeks, whether I’m getting my patients ready for a wedding or anything of that kind, as the skin cycle tends to have a cell renewal process of about 40 days. So now is the perfect opportunity.”

She continues: “You can have so much fun with makeup when you’re skin is in excellent condition so lets solve any breakouts whether it’s breakouts, blocked pores or skin that just looks just a bit dull. With just under four weeks to go until Christmas, now is the perfect time to stage a little intervention.”

Dr Sam’s champions a no-nonsense skincare philosophy and believes that a simplified routine works brilliantly for anyone wanting great skin without the fuss. Navigating which products to buy can feel daunting, especially for those only just venturing beyond using a cleanser in the shower, which is precisely why she’s created her Radiance Kit in the first place.

The set also contains everything required to build the ultimate skincare regime for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles at home, making it ideal for those considering cosmetic treatments but preferring to avoid them. Dr Sam advises her patients to try the three-month skincare programme before taking such steps.

She explained: “If you increase collagen in the skin and make it thicker, you not only erase existing lines but you also prevent new ones from forming. I vary rarely do procedures in the clinic without giving somebody a three month topical regime to try.

“My patients are typically pleasantly surprised from the results of just doing skincare routine first. It’s the reason why I’ve adopted a skincare-first approach in my clinic.”

Here’s everything included within the Radiance Kit:

  • Flawless Cleanser (200ml): Gentle and effective cleansing to support the skin barrier AM-PM.
  • Flawless Moisturiser (50ml): Luxurious daily hydration and barrier support.
  • Flawless Daily Sunscreen (50ml): Powerful broad-spectrum UV protection.
  • Flawless Brightly 10% Azelaic Acid Serum (30ml): Targets pores, dullness and pigmentation.
  • Flawless Nightly 2% Retinoid Serum (30ml): Clears pores, reduces post-blemish dark marks and prevents future blemishes.

Alternatively, The Ordinary’s Mini Icons is available for £17.40. This collection offers a trio of miniature hero products from the brand, with complementary cotton pads, to brighten and hydrate uneven skin tone.

For another option, Sephora’s Skincare Must Haves Set, worth £254.30, is on sale for £69. This limited-edition collection features a selection of cult-favourite, bestselling skincare products from brands such as Caudalie, Medik8, Tatcha and more.

Over at Dr Sam’s, the Radiance Kit boasts an impressive star-rating of 4.5 out of five from 130 customer reviews. One thrilled shopper said: “I am glowing. These products are amazing. Nothing has had such a positive effect on my skin, ever.”

Before and after using Dr Sam’s Radiance Kit (Image: Dr Sam’s)

Another customer enthused: “This kit is incredible. I can’t believe the difference in my skin. I’ve only been using the kit for three weeks and already my skin is clearer and glowing. I’m absolutely going to purchase the full size products.”

A third reviewer added: “After endless amount of skincare products, I have finally found one that is easy and works. I’ve had hormonal acne my whole adult life and never found products that have been able to help minimise.

“The transformation kit allowed me to trial the kit first and see if it worked for me and I was not disappointed. I have gone on to buy full size products and continuing my skin journey.”

Shoppers insist their skin ‘is glowing’ after using the products in the Radiance Kit (Image: Dr Sam’s)

However, one customer gave the Radiance Kit a three-star review, describing it as ‘underwhelming’. They added: “I don’t know if I expected more from the great reviews I read, but this kit has rather underwhelmed me. All fragrance-free. And the textures exist as they are, rather than feeling pleasurable. The two serums are probably the best bits for me, though I don’t think I will be repurchasing.”

Another was thrilled with their Dr Sam’s purchase, stating: “Great little starter kit to try them out and see which products you like and they are also great for travelling. I am in love with the moisturiser and think it’s my favourite out of all of them. My skin is much clearer, brighter and glowing.”

Anti-aging skincare: Myths v/s facts

Anti-aging skincare: Myths v/s facts

Follow this guide

What’s the story

The quest for eternal youth has given rise to a number of anti-aging myths, especially in the skincare industry.
With so much information out there, it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction.
This article aims to debunk some common anti-aging myths that have been misleading consumers for years.
By understanding the truth behind these myths, you can make informed choices about your skincare routine.

Myth: Expensive products guarantee results

Many believe that high-priced skincare products are more effective than their affordable counterparts.
However, the price doesn’t always reflect quality or efficacy. The key ingredients and formulation matter more than the cost.
Some inexpensive products with proven ingredients can work just as well as expensive ones.
Always check ingredient lists and opt for scientifically-backed formulations instead of relying on price alone.

Myth: Natural ingredients are always safe

Natural ingredients are often marketed as safer alternatives in skincare products. However, this isn’t always the case.
Some natural substances can cause allergic reactions or skin irritations in some individuals.
It’s important to remember that “natural” doesn’t mean “better” or “safer.”
Always patch-test new products containing natural ingredients and consult with a dermatologist if you have concerns.

Myth: Sunscreen is only for sunny days

A common misconception is that sunscreen is only required on sunny days or during summer months.
However, UV rays can penetrate clouds and affect your skin even on overcast days or in winter months.
Wearing sunscreen daily protects against both UVA and UVB rays, preventing premature aging and skin damage.
Make it a part of your daily routine, regardless of weather conditions.

Myth: Wrinkles can be completely eliminated

While many treatments promise to erase wrinkles completely, the truth is that it’s impossible to eliminate them entirely.
Wrinkles are a natural part of aging and skin’s response to environmental factors over time.
However, certain treatments like retinoids or hyaluronic acid can minimize their appearance significantly, but not remove them completely.

Myth: All skin types need the same care

A common misconception is that all skin types require the same care products and routines.
In reality, skincare needs differ greatly depending on whether you have oily, dry, combination, or sensitive skin types.
Tailoring your skincare regimen according to your specific needs ensures better results than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

Gwyneth Paltrow gave Timothée Chalamet skincare advice for 'Marty Supreme' movie makeup

Gwyneth Paltrow gave Timothée Chalamet skincare advice for ‘Marty Supreme’ movie makeup

Even beauty experts can be fooled.

Gwyneth Paltrow had an awkward on-set moment with Timothée Chalamet after mistaking his “Marty Supreme” makeup for real skin concerns.

The Goop founder, 53, revealed on Tuesday’s episode of “The Run-Through with Vogue” podcast that she didn’t realize the pockmarks on Chalamet’s face were faux while filming the upcoming ping-pong drama.

“In ‘Marty Supreme,’ Timothée has pockmarks, and they made his eyes beady with contacts and glasses,” Paltrow explained. “And it’s all makeup.”

When Chalamet, 29, commented on his appearance during filming, Paltrow jumped at the opportunity to share her wellness wisdom. “I was like, ‘Oh, you know, you can do microneedling for that,’” she recalled, laughing.

The “Dune” actor quickly set her straight. “And he’s like, ‘This is makeup!’ I was like, ‘Oh, s–t.’ I didn’t realize,” the actress admitted. “The makeup was so good that I thought he had little acne scars.”

Paltrow praised the film’s makeup team for their realistic work transforming Chalamet for the role. She also clarified that her co-star has “beautiful skin” in real life, adding, “His skin in real life, you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh.’”

She reflected that she’s “never done anything like that where I’m really transformed in the face,” though viewers of her cringeworthy 2001 rom-com “Shallow Hal” — in which she wore a fat suit and prosthetics to play an obese woman — may beg to differ.

In “Marty Supreme,” Chalamet plays Marty Mauser, a character loosely based on 1950s table tennis champion Marty Reisman.

The A24 film, directed by Josh Safdie, follows the young ping-pong prodigy’s chaotic journey from shoe salesman to global champion in 1950s New York City.

Paltrow stars opposite Chalamet as Kay Stone, a married movie star and love interest. The Oscar winner previously teased Vanity Fair in March that she and Chalamet have “a lot” of sex scenes together in the film, calling the experience “beyond” vulnerable.

The movie hits theaters on Dec. 25.

Mindfulness and Smartphone Use: A Path to Healthier Digital Habits

A Path to Healthier Digital Habits

Mindfulness techniques may help people reduce problematic smartphone use and build healthier digital habits.

Excessive smartphone dependence among more than four billion users worldwide is raising concerns about a growing public health issue, problematic smartphone use. ().
Dr. Susan Holtzman, a psychology instructor at UBC Okanagan’s Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, recently presented findings in Mindfulness that explore smartphone overuse or dependence and how mindfulness methods might help people manage it.

She explains the concern and shares practical guidance for individuals who feel they may be overly attached to their devices.

Smartphones now play a central role in the everyday routines of billions of people. Use may be labeled “problematic” when someone spends too much time on their phone, struggles to limit use, and experiences significant disruption in essential parts of their life. However, there is still considerable debate over how problematic smartphone use should be defined and measured.

Smartphone Impact on Daily Functioning

Smartphones offer constant access to information, social networks, and tools that support day-to-day activities. Yet heavy use can still disrupt work, relationships, and mental health. It can also contribute to physical concerns such as disturbed sleep and discomfort, particularly in the neck and shoulders.

While smartphone overuse is not officially categorized as an addiction like problematic gambling or substance use, it does share some similar characteristics. For instance, some individuals feel intense distress or anxiety when separated from their device, a response known as nomophobia. Regardless of whether one calls it an addiction, people of all ages are increasingly looking for ways to scale back their smartphone time.

Our review showed that individuals who tend to practice mindfulness in their regular lives are less likely to develop an unhealthy connection with their phones.

The work involved a wide-ranging systematic review and meta-analysis of 61 studies including more than 39,000 participants across 11 countries, examining how mindfulness relates to problematic smartphone use. A key focus was identifying who might benefit most from this approach.

Mindfulness Awareness and Emotional Regulation

Mindfulness involves staying aware of the present moment and observing it without judgment. Think of someone frequently checking their phone. They might be doing so to seek stimulating information, ease boredom or stress, or avoid difficult situations or interactions.

Mindfulness may assist in these moments by helping individuals manage emotions more effectively, reduce impulsive actions, and withstand urges to engage in behaviors that may not be useful. It can also help people recognize when they are acting out of habit rather than intention.

If staying focused or present feels challenging, recent findings indicate that short, consistent mindfulness activities, such as noticing one’s breathing, may help decrease problematic phone habits.

When reaching for the phone, pause and ask what is driving the action. Is there a clear purpose, or is it simply automatic? What is the intention behind it, especially if only a few minutes have passed since the last check?

Building Healthier Digital Habits

Naturally, this process is not always straightforward. Smartphones and the apps installed on them are intentionally designed to attract and hold attention. To address this, people are encouraged to examine their smartphone usage. If certain apps or websites consume too much time or disrupt focus, it may help to set usage limits, remove them from the home screen, or delete them altogether.

Because smartphones are constantly within reach, staying fully present in daily life becomes more difficult. Taking time to reflect on personal values and how one truly wants to use their time can guide the development of healthier digital routines.

Ashwagandha, AHAs and marine collagen top Boots' most in-demand beauty products of 2025

Ashwagandha, AHAs and marine collagen top Boots’ most in-demand beauty products of 2025

British health, beauty and wellness retailer Boots has revealed insights into its most popular products of 2025, and the trends that drove them.

Key themes of proactive wellness, science-backed skin care, global beauty and mood-driven scents emerged as the retailer analysed search and sales data from across the year.

Ashwagandha, AHAs and marine collagen were revealed to be three of the most in-demand ingredients of the year.

Beyond individual products and categories, the overall findings uncovered a wider shift towards a holistic and rounded approach to beauty, health and wellness.

“As our report outlined, beauty, health and wellness have never been more intertwined as consumers take a more holistic approach to life,” said Grace Vernon, Head of Global Trends & Cultural Insights at Boots & No7 Beauty Company.

“This health hacking trend has resulted in collagen, electrolytes and adaptogens all growing in prominence at Boots this year.”

Consumers are looking to ingest their wellness investments, with a 227% search increase for marine collagen year-on-year (YOY), and collagen sales rising 62%.

Adaptogens – natural plants and herbs such as mushrooms used to regulate the body and stress – were a breakout category for Boots in 2025.

Searches for ashwagandha, a medicinal herb said to help with stress and anxiety, saw a huge 722% increase in searches YOY.

Beyond supplements, the ingredient is also proving popular in skin care.

When it comes to science-led skin care, acidic exfoliation took centre stage with alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) such as glycolic acid seeing demand across Boots stores.

Glycolic acid alone saw a 64% increase in searches, with The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner revealed as the retailer’s second bestselling premium beauty product

While this may be expected in skin care, the exfoliating ingredients are growing in popularity beyond the face, with AHAs now found in a number of body care and even scalp products.

When it comes to scent, a sense of nostalgia has become a huge driver for sales in 2025, as 2000s fragrances made a comeback off the back of Y2K’s social media resurgence.

Hydration and gut health have both seen growth over the past year as consumers seek functional fixes.

Electrolytes have seen a 755% increase in searches YOY as consumers integrate the hydration hits into their daily routines, with a peak of one item sold every 14 seconds earlier in summer.

Gut health product searches have also increased by 70%, with sales rising 15%.

Global beauty has taken over as Korean skin care has spiralled into an industry-wide take over spanning colour cosmetics, body, hair care and more.

“We also continue to see beauty lovers turn to science-backed, ingredient-led brands for skin care, with a growing influence from the global market with K-beauty solutions remaining popular throughout the year,” explained Vernon.

Boots reports selling a K-beauty product every 15 seconds, while brands like TirTir and German Catrice Cosmetics landed in stores and online to bring the viral brands to beauty lovers.

“As we move into 2026, we expect our customers to evolve their increasingly holistic approach to their beauty and wellness,” said Vernon.
