My First Note | Beauty Habits for Your 30s Without Spending Too Much Time or Money|Milky Cafe

My First Note | Beauty Habits for Your 30s Without Spending Too Much Time or Money|Milky Cafe

Nice to meet you, I’m Milky Cafe☺️

I’m busy and don’t want to spend too much money.
But I don’t want to neglect my beauty, and I want to keep looking beautiful.

I started this note to write about the daily habits I keep as a woman in her mid-30s, as well as how I choose my skincare and haircare products😌🍀

Why I decided to start a note

Recently, when I tell people my age, they often say, “I thought you were around 29 or 30!”

I’m honestly happy when people say that😆

Up until now, I haven’t gone to beauty salons or had cosmetic medical procedures; I’ve just continued with small habits that I felt worked for me.

I don’t know how much each thing contributes, but
looking back, I have small habits that I’ve kept for a long time.

I’ve started to think, “maybe the things I’ve continued little by little are what have led to the person I am today.”😌

I’d like to try putting my experiences into words, little by little☺️

3 habits I continue

① Daily stretching I’ve been doing since I was 20
Stretching when I wake up in the morning.
This is a habit I’ve kept since I was 20.

Since I spend a lot of time sitting, I also do just one minute of stretching before I go to bed.

② My usual breakfast, eaten after a 12-hour fast
It’s my habit to eat breakfast 12 hours after my last meal of the previous day.
What I eat for breakfast is also always the same😆

I’d like to introduce what I eat and why I choose it,
along with my meal timing, in future posts😌🍀

③ Self-massage for the neck, shoulders, and head
During the day, I spend a lot of time using my PC and often stay in the same posture.
Because of that, my shoulders, neck, and head get stiff very quickly😣

Furthermore, I’ve started to worry about laugh lines and sagging,
so I’ve started incorporating self-massage as care I can do myself.

I do it from my back above the shoulder blades up to my neck and head☺️

They are all very simple!
I will introduce the details of my stretches, my breakfast menu, and my massage techniques
little by little in each article☺️

What I want to write about in this note

Daily beauty habits and how I choose my skincare and haircare products.
I would like to share my experiences, including what I feel works for me and my thoughts on the things I have actually tried.

Actually, I am interested in plastic surgery, but I am still too scared to try it.😣
With that feeling in mind, I am continuing to do what I can for myself little by little.

I want to cherish who I am now while continuing to take care of myself without spending too much money or time, and without overdoing it.

I would be happy to connect here with anyone who thinks, “I know exactly how you feel!”😌🎀

I look forward to getting to know you all.🤗

17 Natural Fall Soap Recipes

17 Fall Soap Recipes for Any Time of the Year

I’ve made a lot of homemade soap recipes over the years, and every time I go back through them, I’m reminded of how many fun seasonal soaps I’ve made! So, I decided to gather my 17 favorite fall soap recipes all in one place.

Even I had forgotten about some of these. Looking through the recipes was such a fun reminder and gave me plenty of inspiration to make a few that I haven’t made in a while.

These natural fall soap recipes are perfect for Autumn, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the entire winter season. They also make beautiful handmade gifts for friends, family, teachers, neighbors, and anyone who enjoys natural homemade products.

And, of course, you don’t have to wait for fall to make them. If you love warm, spicy, woodsy, citrusy, and cozy scents, you can enjoy these homemade soap recipes any time of year. I do! And they’re scents that my family often ask for year around as well.

Natural Ingredients for Fall Soap

If I’m going to take the time to make my own soap, I want to be careful with what is going into it. After all, why go to all that trouble just to add something toxic and ruin it all?

You can certainly make soap simply because it’s a fun craft—and it is! But one of my favorite things about making homemade soap is being able to choose simple, natural ingredients and leave out the artificial colors, synthetic fragrances, and unnecessary additives found in many commercial soaps.

You’ll find ingredients such as:

  • Shea butter
  • Cocoa butter
  • Coconut oil
  • Mango butter
  • Tallow
  • Lard
  • Beeswax
  • Essential oils
  • Natural clays
  • Root powders
  • Herbs and other botanicals

I use essential oils for scent and natural ingredients such as clays, herbs, and root powders for color whenever possible. You can learn more about naturally coloring homemade soap in my natural soap coloring chart.

Vegan, Tallow, or Lard Soap

Some of the recipes below are vegan, while others use tallow, lard, or beeswax. All of them make wonderful soap bars.

If you prefer a vegan soap recipe but love the colors, scent, or design of a recipe that contains tallow, don’t be afraid to use the design and essential oil blend from one recipe with the base oils from another.

For example, maybe you love the tree design and cedarwood scent of the Evergreen Tree Soap but would rather make a vegan bar. You can use your favorite vegan soap recipe and recreate is with the design and scent suggestions below.

Just be sure that you are working from a properly calculated soap recipe. Do not substitute oils or fats by weight without recalculating the lye amount, because different oils require different amounts of lye to saponify.

If beeswax is the only ingredient you want to avoid, you can also look for a suitable vegan wax alternative—but remember that waxes can change the properties of your finished soap, so substitutions should be made carefully. You can learn more about how to make substitutions here.

No Artificial Fragrances or Dyes

I don’t use artificial fragrance oils or synthetic dyes in my homemade soap recipes.

There are also other ingredients commonly added to soap that I personally choose to leave out, including titanium dioxide and artificially dyed micas.

Why add unnecessary questionable or outright toxic ingredients, when you can make something beautiful with natural ingredients? Instead, you’ll see natural colorants in my recipes, such as clays, herbs, and root powders, along with essential oils for those wonderful Autumn scents.

That’s one of the reasons I love making soap so much. You can create beautiful bars that look and smell amazing while knowing exactly what you used to make them.

How to Make Homemade Soap

If you’re brand new to soap making, don’t worry. I have a beginner-friendly guide that walks you through the process.

Start here: 7 Easy Steps to Homemade Lye Soap for Beginners.

I’ve also written several books about natural soap making, along with ebooks and other resources available through my shop.

Browse my natural soap-making books and resources

Cold Process vs. Hot Process Soap

Most of these recipes can be made using either the cold process or hot process method.

When made using the cold process method, the soap generally needs several weeks to cure before it is ready to use. I recommend following the individual recipe for its specific curing time, but many of these recipes are ready for use at around 3–4 weeks, while a longer cure can make an even harder, longer-lasting bar.

If you don’t want to wait as long, you can make all of these recipes using the hot process method. Hot process soap is cooked, which speeds up saponification, and the soap can be used once as soon as it has cooled and hardened. The main difference is in texture. Hot process tends to be chunkier looking, whereas cold process has that smooth soap bar look. Both have beautiful merits.

Keep in mind that “ready to use” and “fully cured” aren’t necessarily the same thing. Even hot process soap will continue to lose water and become harder over time.

Now for the fun part!

These 17 fall soap recipes are filled with cozy Autumn scents, natural ingredients, pretty designs, and plenty of inspiration for homemade holiday gifts. These are great as stocking stuffers, or in gift baskets.

Most recipes make either 2 or 3 pounds of soap, but be sure to check the individual recipe before getting started.

1. Cinnamon Roll Soap

This one looks almost good enough to eat!

The cinnamon swirl running through the middle of these soap bars makes them look like little cinnamon rolls. They’re especially fun to make for holiday gifts, and the warm cinnamon scent is perfect for Autumn.

Just remember to remind everyone that they’re soap—not breakfast!

2. Fall Sunset Soap

Get the Fall Sunset Soap Recipe

This has become one of my favorite fall soap recipes.

The colors remind me of an Autumn sunset, with beautiful shades of orange, purple, yellow, and pink swirled together. The essential oil blend adds those warm, comforting scents that make you think of crisp evenings and changing leaves.

I’ve even sold these in my shop during the holiday season.

3. Pumpkin Spice Soap

Get the Pumpkin Spice Soap Recipe

Of course pumpkin spice had to make the list!

Pumpkin spice is one of those scents that immediately makes a home feel like Fall. This recipe uses real pumpkin puree along with nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove for a warm, spicy seasonal soap.

It’s a favorite year after year and is a staple holiday soap in my shop.

4. Evergreen Tree Soap

Get the Evergreen Tree Soap Recipe

If you love woodsy scents, this is the soap for you.

Cedarwood gives this soap a wonderful earthy scent, and the tree design running through the center of each bar makes it especially fun for the winter and Christmas season (I add a green swirl, but you can also use an insert).

There’s something about cedarwood in the shower that feels like a little pick-me-up in the morning. It’s energizing and uplifting. A must have for anyone who suffers from those winter blues.

This is another one I like to keep in my shop year around.

5. Chai Soap

Get the Chai Soap Recipe

I love the smell of chai tea, especially when the weather starts to cool down. This soap combines the warm scents of cardamom, clove, and cinnamon and is simple to make because it uses a real chai tea bag in the recipe.

It’s a cozy soap bar that feels right at home during the Fall and winter months.

6. Orange and Clove Soap

Get the Orange and Clove Soap Recipe

Orange and clove are two of my favorite essential oils for creating that classic Fall feeling.

If I’m diffusing essential oils around the house in the Autumn, orange and clove are often my first choice. Together, they make a bright but warm scent that’s perfect for homemade soap.

This is a great one to make for holiday gifts, too.

7. Spiced Cider Soap

Get the Spiced Cider Soap Recipe

Apple cider is one of those things my kids love about Fall. They spot it in the store before anyone else!

This soap captures those sweet, warm cider scents in a homemade bar. It’s a wonderful choice if you want something that immediately brings back memories of cool weather, warm drinks, and Autumn afternoons.

8. Walk in the Woods Soap

Get the Walk in the Woods Soap Recipe

There is nothing quite like taking a walk through the woods when the air turns cool and crisp. This soap was really inspired by that feeling.

It’s earthy, woodsy, and calming—a wonderful choice if you prefer natural soap scents that aren’t overly sweet or spicy.

9. Autumn Leaves Soap

Get the Autumn Leaves Soap Recipe

This soap has a unique combination of orange, patchouli, and ginger essential oils. The result is a warm, woodsy scent that feels just like Autumn leaves and cool evenings.

If you like earthy essential oil blends, this is definitely one to try.

10. Gingerbread Soap

Get the Gingerbread Soap Recipe

These gingerbread soap bars are especially fun when made in molds. You can make little gingerbread people, gingerbread shapes, or whatever seasonal molds you have on hand.

They make adorable Christmas and holiday gifts, and they’re a fun project to make with the family.

11. Pumpkin Cinnamon Layered Soap

Get the Pumpkin Cinnamon Layered Soap Recipe

Pumpkin and cinnamon are two of the scents I immediately associate with Fall.

This soap combines the two in beautiful layers for a simple but eye-catching bar. It’s been a very popular Fall soap over the years.

12. Cranberry Vanilla Swirl Soap

Get the Cranberry Vanilla Swirl Soap Recipe

Pretty pink cranberry swirls are combined with a creamy vanilla-colored soap base.

The finished bars are beautiful enough to give as gifts, and the cranberry and vanilla combination makes them especially appropriate for the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.

13. Sugar Cookie Soap

Get the Sugar Cookie Soap Recipe

These sugar cookie soap bars are speckled with cinnamon and scented with vanilla. They’re another one that can fool your guests for just a second. They smell so good that you’ll probably need to remind everyone that they’re soap!

I love making soaps like this for the holidays because they look like little treats without actually being edible.

14. Hot Chocolate Soap

Get the Hot Chocolate Soap Recipe

Who doesn’t love hot chocolate?

Hot cocoa is appropriate for all kinds of cozy weather, but there’s something especially wonderful about it on a cold Fall or winter day. This recipe uses cocoa powder and cocoa butter, which add their own naturally chocolatey qualities to the finished soap.

It’s a fun winter soap and makes a great homemade gift.

15. Cranberry Orange Soap

Get the Cranberry Orange Soap Recipe

Cranberry and orange are such a pretty combination for the holiday season.

One fun thing about this recipe is that using cranberry juice doesn’t make the soap turn pink. You’ll have to use clays for that. But the cranberry juice is still a beautiful addition because it helps create a creamy texture and contributes to a bubbly finished bar.

The bright citrus combined with cranberry makes this one feel especially festive.

16. Vanilla Maple Soap

Get the Vanilla Maple Soap Recipe

Vanilla is always a favorite and adding maple gives it that rich bubbly lather. This soap also has a naturally darker cream color, making it look just as cozy as it smells.

If you like sweet soap scents but don’t want something overwhelmingly fruity, this is a great choice.

17. Apple Cider Soap

Get the Apple Cider Soap Recipe

This is a little different from the Spiced Cider Soap above. Instead of simply creating a spiced cider scent, this recipe actually uses apple cider in the soap. The sugar also helps contribute to extra bubbles, making this a wonderful Fall bar for everyday use.

Which Fall Soap Recipe Will You Make?

I hope you find a few recipes here that inspire you to get out your soap-making supplies and start creating!

These homemade fall soaps are wonderful for keeping around your own home, but they’re also perfect for DIY Christmas gifts, Thanksgiving hostess gifts, teacher gifts, stocking stuffers, and handmade gift baskets.

One of my favorite things about making soap is that you can take a basic skill and make it completely your own. Change the essential oil blend, try a different natural color, experiment with a new mold, or combine a design you love with your favorite soap base.

And if you make one of these, I’d love to know which one is your favorite!

Happy soap making and enjoy all those wonderful Fall scents.

The Beauty Brand That’s Giving Time Back

The Beauty Brand That’s Giving Time Back

In an era where skincare routines have turned into ten-step commitments, Terrai is asking a simple but radical question: what if beauty gave you time back instead of taking more of it?

Advertisment

Founded in 2024 by Dhruv Kumar and Kamakshi Sood, this homegrown Indian skincare brand isn’t trying to win the race for novelty. Instead, it’s carving out space for something far more precious: efficiency. Terrai’s philosophy is rooted in the reality of modern life, where long routines often feel less like self-care and more like another task on the list.

“At Terrai, we believe that skincare should simplify your life, not add to it,” says Sood. “Our products are developed to deliver potent benefits with fewer steps, giving customers time back in their day without compromising on performance.”

 Skincare, minus the overwhelm

At the heart of Terrai is a belief that effective skincare doesn’t need layers, excess, or hype. Kumar and Sood set out to build a brand that prioritises performance and transparency over trends. The goal was never to flood the market with more products, but to create formulations that do more, faster and smarter.

Advertisment

Rather than asking consumers to decode complicated regimens, Terrai’s approach is refreshingly minimal. Each product is designed to multitask, delivering multiple benefits in a single step. The result is routines that feel intuitive, not intimidating.

“Our focus has always been on creating products that work harder so people don’t have to,” adds Kumar. “Efficiency, for us, isn’t about cutting corners; it’s about thoughtful formulation.”

Where science meets simplicity

What truly sets Terrai apart is its science-first mindset. The brand leans heavily on clinical validation, choosing measurable results over exaggerated claims. Every formula is built with intent–it’s modern yet grounded in dermatological research. This focus on precision has allowed Terrai to position itself as something more than a beauty label. It sees itself as a time-saving company, one that understands the demands of contemporary life and responds with products that respect it.

 Multi-tasking, done right

Terrai’s growing portfolio reflects this philosophy clearly. Its Luminous Tinted Sunscreen, for instance, functions as protection, hydration, coverage, and primer—all in one clinically backed formula. The Aqua Radiance Sunscreen offers high protection in an ultra-light texture designed to prevent tanning without weighing skin down.

Then there’s the SPF face mist, a hybrid product that combines sun protection with long-lasting hydration and age-supporting actives, ideal for days when reapplication needs to be effortless. The newest launch, One & Done, distils Terrai’s ethos most succinctly: a multi-corrective serum created to address the most common skin concerns from a single bottle.

“One & Done was created for people who want results, not routines,” says Sood. It’s a sentiment that echoes across the brand’s entire lineup.

 A new definition of luxury

In many ways, Terrai’s restraint feels luxurious. In choosing to do less, but better, the brand reflects a shift in how beauty is being redefined. Not as an elaborate ritual, but as something that fits effortlessly into daily life.

In a crowded skincare landscape obsessed with what’s next, Terrai’s strength lies in knowing when enough is enough. And sometimes, the most indulgent thing a beauty brand can offer is time itself.

6 Everyday skincare habits that will improve your skin health over time

Whether you’re a skincare fanatic or simply want to start taking your skincare seriously, developing – and breaking – certain habits is a great way to start or improve your skincare journey. Achieving and maintaining glowing, healthy skin isn’t just about finding the perfect product – it’s about creating a routine that works for you, and sticking to it. While there’s no secret formula for perfect skin, developing small, consistent habits can make a difference over time.

The world of skincare doesn’t have to feel like rocket science, when it comes to figuring out your skin. Sometimes all it takes is to break or develop a few habits. Luckily, we’re here to walk you through six skincare habits you can easily incorporate into your daily routine, helping you nurture your skin and boost its natural radiance. From the basics to some simple but often overlooked steps, these tips will give you the foundation for glowing skin that looks and feels amazing.

Sunscreen

If you haven’t incorporated sunscreen into your daily routine, this is your sign to start doing so. Sunscreen is a must, no matter what the weather. UV rays can damage skin even on cloudy days, leading to premature ageing, hyperpigmentation, and an increased risk of skin cancer. Make it a habit to apply broad-spectrum SPF every morning, and reapply every two to three hours when outdoors.

Cleanse twice daily

Yes, life gets busy, and a set skincare routine is at the bottom of your priority list, or you simply don’t see the need to wash your face in the evening; so you just don’t do it. But imagine what all the dirt, oil and sweat from the long day you had does to your skin overnight? Normalise cleansing your face twice a day – morning and night. Cleansing twice a day is the foundation of any good skincare routine, and helps remove dirt, oil and impurities.

Use lukewarm water for cleansing

As good as it may feel, unfortunately hot water is not good for your face; hence washing your face in the shower is not ideal. The skin on your face is more prone to skin reactions. Hot water can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. Always use lukewarm water to cleanse your face, to maintain your skin’s moisture balance.

Avoid overloading your skin with product

We live in a world where we’re constantly introduced to new skincare products and techniques, and it can be tempting to try them all at once. You probably have a 10-step skincare routine, but don’t see any results. That may be because your skin is irritated and overwhelmed. Using too much product can irritate the skin, causing it to break out. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need a time-consuming skincare routine for fresh, glowing skin. It’s best to keep your routine simple, and gradually introduce new products to see how your skin reacts.

Change your pillowcase

Looks are deceiving; and that goes for your pillowcase, too. It may look clean, but it’s not. It can accumulate dirt, oil, sweat and bacteria from your skin and hair. When you sleep, your face comes into direct contact with the pillow, and all those impurities can clog your pores and contribute to breakouts. By changing your pillowcase regularly, you minimise the risk of this build-up.

Don’t pop your pimples

If there’s one habit that’s hard to get rid of, it’s pimple-popping. We know; it’s tempting, and satisfying, and sometimes you can’t help it. But it’s not worth the long-lasting dark spots, and the mental toll that comes with getting rid of them.

Some great ways to break the habit:

  • Self-control
  • Don’t spend hours nitpicking your face. You’re bound to find something to scrutinise.
  • When you’re doing your skincare routine, stand a few steps away from the mirror. If you don’t see the flaws, you won’t have the urge to pick at them. Out of sight, out of mind.

Best time to apply skincare products for maximum results

Best time to apply skincare products for maximum results

Optimal times to use skincare products for optimal results: How to align routine with skin’s natural rhythms for healthy, glowing skin?

Have you ever wondered why skincare products come with instructions on how and when to use them? It might seem like a marketing trick, especially if you spent a lot on that fancy night cream. But it’s important to follow these guidelines. Our skin has its own internal clock that shows the best times to use products for maximum benefits. How do you adjust your skincare routine to align with this timing for beautiful, glowing skin?

What should your morning skincare routine be?

Morning is important for your skin because it protects it from factors such as pollution, ultraviolet rays, and oxidative stress. These factors can harm your skin. That’s why your morning routine should focus on strengthening your skin’s barrier.

Antioxidants, such as vitamin C, are beneficial during this time. Research from Harvard Health shows that vitamin C can neutralise free radicals caused by sun exposure, helping reduce potential damage. However, using sunscreen is important. A study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology shows that applying sunscreen daily can prevent skin ageing, pigmentation, and even skin cancer. “A lightweight moisturiser that helps the skin barrier can also be a great addition to your daytime routine. It is important to create a protective barrier that lasts throughout the day,” cosmetic dermatologist Dr Rinky Kapoor tells Health Shots.

The sun’s rays can still reach you on cloudy days. Due to this, you should always wear sunscreen, even when it’s overcast.

Why does my skin get oily in the afternoon?

As the afternoon sun shines brightly, your skin absorbs not only UV rays but also dirt and pollutants. By mid-afternoon, your skin feels greasier. This is due to the buildup of sebum, sweat, and environmental debris, which can worsen skin conditions such as acne or rosacea.

Reapplying sunscreen is very important. If you think putting it on once in the morning is enough, think again! Doctors recommend reapplying sunscreen every two hours, especially when you’re in direct sunlight. “In addition to sunscreen, calming ingredients like niacinamide can help reduce inflammation caused by environmental stress,” says the dermatologist. This can lower redness and control oil production, helping you maintain a balanced, fresh complexion throughout the day.

What happens to your skin during the night?

At night, your skin undergoes significant changes. This is when your skin repairs and regenerates itself the most. Research published in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology indicates that your skin’s natural repair processes are most effective at night. DNA repair accelerates, new cells are produced more quickly, and barrier recovery occurs efficiently.

Evening is the best time to use treatment products. Retinoids and exfoliants such as AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) and BHAs (beta-hydroxy acids) are effective in nighttime skincare routines. “These ingredients help boost collagen production, improve skin texture, and support skin renewal over time. However, be patient; when you first start using retinoids, they can irritate your skin and make it more sensitive to sunlight,” says Dr Kapoor. That’s why it is better to apply them at night when your skin is less exposed to environmental stress.

As the night goes on, your skin loses more moisture and becomes more prone to dryness. “Using a rich moisturiser or barrier cream during this time can help restore hydration and support recovery”, says the doctor.

Why timing matters in dermatology?

Timing is important for good clinical outcomes. Research in Biomedicine and Pharmacotherapy shows that wound healing, barrier recovery, and inflammation follow natural biological rhythms. “For example, if you time your post-procedure care, such as after chemical peels, laser treatments, or microneedling, to these natural repair periods, it can improve healing and reduce irritation”, says the expert. You need to think about both which products you use and when you use them.

What helps to maintain healthy skin?

Your skin has an internal clock that is important for maintaining healthy skin. To support this, protecting your skin during the day and nourishing it at night helps your skincare work in sync with your body’s natural rhythms. “Creating a skincare routine that aligns with your skin’s natural rhythms can make your products work better and promote healthier skin over time”, shares Dr Kapoor. So, when you apply your night cream or wash your face after a long day, you are participating in a careful interplay with your skin’s internal clock.

8 minimalist beauty habits that save time, reduce waste, and look effortlessly chic

8 minimalist beauty habits that save time, reduce waste, and look effortlessly chic

A few years ago, I was juggling a demanding job, early morning trail runs, weekend volunteer shifts at the farmers’ market, and what felt like an overly complicated beauty routine I never truly enjoyed.

One morning, while staring at a bathroom counter covered in half-used products, I had a simple realization. The more clutter I had, the less confident I felt.

Around that time, I started leaning deeper into minimalism in other areas of my life. Decluttering my home made me feel lighter. Simplifying my meals made my vegan routine easier.

So it made sense to experiment with simplifying the way I cared for my skin, hair, and overall appearance.

What started as a practical time saver became something much bigger. I found that stripping back my routine helped me feel more grounded and intentional. It reduced waste, saved money, and oddly enough, made me look more put together with half the effort.

If you’ve ever wondered how to simplify your beauty routine without sacrificing how you feel, here are eight minimalist habits that might fit into your life more naturally than you expect.

1) Prioritizing skin hydration instead of covering everything up

I used to think beauty started with makeup, but hydration changed everything for me. When your skin is well moisturized, it naturally looks smoother and healthier. You don’t need to hide as much because there’s less to hide.

You’d be surprised how many skin concerns soften just by drinking enough water, using a gentle moisturizer, and giving your skin time to breathe.

I learned this during my financial analyst days when stress often showed up on my face before anywhere else. Keeping hydration simple helped calm everything down.

Minimalists love this approach because it reduces the number of products you use and cuts down on packaging waste. Plus, hydrated skin never goes out of style.

2) Using multitasking products that streamline your routine

Have you ever noticed how many products promise to solve one tiny issue at a time? Moisturizer for day, another for night, a serum for brightening, another for smoothing, and the list keeps growing.

Switching to multitasking products made my routine so much easier. A tinted moisturizer with SPF. A single nourishing oil for both hair ends and dry elbows. A lip balm that doubles as a subtle cheek tint.

Not only does this save time, but it dramatically reduces the clutter in your bathroom. And honestly, less clutter creates a calmer mind. I’ve always believed that the state of your space influences the state of your thoughts.

A simple routine helps you begin the day with clarity instead of overwhelm.

3) Embracing natural textures instead of fighting them

For years, I tried to force my hair into a style that didn’t suit its natural texture. Straightening, curling, smoothing, reshaping. It took time, heat, and far too many plastic product bottles.

Letting my hair exist as it is felt like a revelation. It wasn’t perfect, but it was honest. And the time I saved allowed me to enjoy slower mornings, which I value much more than a perfectly sculpted look.

The same applies to skin. Minimalist beauty often means working with what you have rather than covering it up or reshaping it into something unrealistic. It’s an approach rooted in acceptance, and that acceptance frees you from so much unnecessary effort.

4) Simplifying your color palette to a few trusted tones

One day, I opened my makeup drawer and realized I was keeping products I hadn’t used in months simply because they felt aspirational. Shades I thought I might wear someday lived there rent-free.

A minimalist habit that changed everything was narrowing down my color palette to just the tones I naturally reach for. A soft neutral for the eyes. A rosy or berry tint for the lips. A subtle highlighter that works for everyday wear.

This keeps your routine fast, reduces decision fatigue, and removes that guilty feeling that comes from unused products.

More importantly, it helps you develop a cohesive look that becomes effortlessly chic because it reflects your real taste, not a fantasy version of yourself.

5) Choosing reusable tools instead of disposables

This point came to me through a combination of environmental awareness and personal convenience.

As someone who volunteers at farmers’ markets and spends a lot of time around sustainability-focused communities, I started noticing how many disposable beauty tools end up in the trash.

Reusable cotton rounds, quality makeup brushes, stainless steel razors, refillable containers, and silicone masks can all replace single use items without sacrificing any part of your beauty experience.

The first time I switched to reusable cotton rounds, I was surprised by how much softer they felt on my skin. It reminded me that minimalism isn’t about giving things up. It’s about choosing items that last longer, feel better, and create less waste along the way.

6) Practicing “finish before you buy” as a mindful beauty rule

The beauty industry thrives on novelty. New serums, new scents, new formulas, new promises every single week. If you’re not intentional, you start buying products because of the possibility they represent rather than the practicality of your needs.

A habit I adopted early in my minimalist journey is something I call “finish before you buy.” It’s exactly what it sounds like. Use the products you have before replacing them.

On the surface, it saves money and reduces clutter. But there’s something deeper here. It trains you to slow down, notice your impulses, and recognize when you’re trying to buy your way into a feeling rather than solve a real problem.

I’ve found that this level of mindfulness extends into other parts of life too.

7) Choosing hairstyles and cuts that grow out gracefully

Have you ever had a haircut that looked perfect for exactly two weeks and then needed constant upkeep? I used to end up in that cycle often. And honestly, it drained both my time and patience.

Minimalist beauty shifts your focus toward styles that look good even as they grow. Think soft layers, simple bobs, natural curls, or long hair with gentle movement. These styles require far fewer products and far fewer emergency salon visits.

When I started trail running more often, I realized how important this was. I needed my hair to look good without constant attention.

A low-maintenance cut made it possible for me to feel put together without rearranging my schedule around my appearance.

8) Focusing on nourishment instead of perfection

Minimalist beauty isn’t just about what you put on your skin. It’s also about how you support your body from the inside.

Eating whole plant-based foods, drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, and moving your body in ways you enjoy make a bigger difference than any bottle on your shelf.

I’ve noticed the days I eat colorful, nutrient dense meals or spend time gardening, my skin naturally looks brighter. Those habits don’t feel like effort. They feel like alignment.

Being vegan has helped me understand this even more deeply. Nourishment creates radiance without trying. Perfection demands endless work. Choosing nourishment saves time, energy, and mental space, and it shows in your natural glow.

Final thoughts
