Charlie Parker, senior nutritionist at Ocado Retail, said: “Hydration-focused products are being increasingly seen by consumers as daily wellness essentials. "Customers are choosing these products to support their health and wellbeing as much as for exercise. We’re seeing a clear shift towards functional ingredients such as vitamin-enhanced water, better-for-you choices and products that help people feel hydrated throughout busy and cold winter days.”

35% of UK adults find it more difficult to stay hydrated during winter, according to Ocado

According to Ocado Retail, 78% of UK adults believe hydration is as important in winter as it is during the summer months.

New research, published yesterday (29 December), highlighted 22% have replaced caffeinated tea or coffee. This figure rises to 36% for Gen Z and Millennials. It also stated 38% of respondents find it more difficult to stay hydrated during the winter.

The retailer reported that its sales of flavoured water, electrolytes and vitamin waters are up 66% year-on-year. Searches for liquid IV have also grown rapidly, increasing by 733%.

Ocado believes the new trend is mainly driven by “health benefits”, with 56% of respondents highlighting an improvement to their focus, mood and energy levels when having drunk enough.

Paddy Cavanagh-Butler, founder of Punchy, said: “Winter is when people often forget to hydrate, but it’s also when your body needs it most. At punchy we’re seeing a big shift in how people think about hydration.

“Especially in winter when central heating, longer days indoors and seasonal bugs all take their toll. Our wellness blend of real fruit powder, 5 immunity-boosting vitamins, 7 electrolytes and minerals, gives people a simple way to help their wellbeing, especially during the colder months when energy can dip, and routines get busy.”

It also highlighted that 35% thought hydration drinks were healthier or as healthy as water.

According to the retailer, 42% of adults are also buying more hydrating skincare products, rising to 67% of Gen Z consumers. Ocado has seen a 30% rise month-on-month for hydrating skincare.

Ocado has highlighted that one of the major reasons for the shift is social media, with 38% of shoppers reporting that they had seen more hydration-related posts.

Charlie Parker, senior nutritionist at Ocado Retail, said: “Hydration-focused products are being increasingly seen by consumers as daily wellness essentials.

“Customers are choosing these products to support their health and wellbeing as much as for exercise. We’re seeing a clear shift towards functional ingredients such as vitamin-enhanced water, better-for-you choices and products that help people feel hydrated throughout busy and cold winter days.”

‘Sad Blush’ Is the Unexpected Makeup Trend Taking Over TikTok This Winter

‘Sad Blush’ Is the Unexpected Makeup Trend Taking Over TikTok This Winter

In the world of beauty, the final days of 2025 did not disappoint. Just before the new year, “sad blush” spread across social media like wild fire—and you’ll probably be seeing the makeup trend all over the next few months.

Truthfully, at this point, no one expected another makeup trend within the clean beauty movement, which is beginning to show signs of exhaustion after dominating the scene for a few years. But one of the most fun aspects of trends is precisely how unexpected they sometimes are.

It was probably the name that first caught your attention. Can a trend with such an unappealing name really succeed? The answer is simple: yes. Because “sad blush” is anything but sad; quite the opposite, in fact. And while it might not sound like a makeup trend you’re eager to jump on, give us until the end of this article to change your mind.

What is ‘Sad Blush’ all about?

In contrast to the pink, red, and berry tones that have dominated the last few months, neutral blush, or “sad blush,“ is emerging, against all odds, as one of the most flattering trends of the season. Among the multitude of colorful blushes flooding the market, beige might seem bland at first glance; however, it is precisely this understated elegance that is conquering social media. In fact, the trend celebrating the benefits of beige and nude blushes is being popularized on TikTok.

Against all odds, these neutral tones are incredibly flattering thanks to their illuminating effect. Because it is after applying foundation that the magic happens: the beige blends seamlessly with the skin, gliding over the contours of the face and creating a dimension that cannot be achieved with more saturated tones like pink or red.

We could define it as the perfect basic blush to look put together with minimal effort.

How to recreate the ‘Sad Blush’ trend

The secret lies, above all, in choosing the right color. Opt for a beige slightly darker than your skin tone: a touch of peach for warm skin tones, a rosy glow for cool skin tones, and a neutral shade for olive skin tones. Nothing too intense, just enough to add a subtle touch of warmth. You can even use a neutral eyeshadow from a palette you already own and lightly sweep it across your cheeks to create that natural flush. Because the best part is that the ” sad blush” look isn’t one of those beauty trends that requires watching a ton of tutorials to achieve.

6 Simple Winter Skincare Habits For Glowing, Nourished Skin

5. Hydrate From Within:

Dehydration shows up first on your skin, making it look dull, tight and tired. Drink plenty of water, herbal teas and warm fluids throughout the day. Include hydrating foods like oranges, cucumber, soups and coconut water in your winter diet. Proper internal hydration improves skin elasticity, flushes out toxins and supports faster skin repair.

How To Embrace The Toasty Makeup Trend This Winter

How To Embrace The Toasty Makeup Trend This Winter

Who says you have to stick to cool tones during the winter? The temperature might be dropping, but that doesn’t mean you have to look like an ice queen. This year, celebrities like Hailey Bieber, Dua Lipa, and more are embracing the toasty makeup trend, which favors sunny brown tones in lieu of frosty blues.

“The toasty makeup trend is all about bringing soft, neutral warmth back into the skin — think bronzy-mauve tones that melt seamlessly into a very hydrated, fresh-looking complexion,” says New York City-based makeup artist Chelsea Gehr, who’s worked with the likes of Laufey and Noah Cyrus. “It’s the perfect way to brighten dull winter skin without leaning into a full summer bronze. The eyes get subtle sculpting with tones like ochre, sienna, and soft terracotta, while a touch of glow on the high points keeps everything dewy, dimensional, and cold-weather friendly.”

Below, find a guide to perfecting the toasty makeup trend this winter.

According to Gehr, hydration plays a key role in priming the face for toasty makeup. “The skin should appear plump, radiant, and nourished,” she says. Before applying your makeup, make sure to thoroughly prep your skin with hydrating moisturizers and serums.

“No glowing healthy look ever blossoms without hydration,” adds NYC makeup artist Sage Makeup, who who has worked with celebs like Catherine Zeta Jones and Serena Williams. She recommends prepping the skin with Aeston West’s Marine Treatment Mist and using it a second time when you’re finished applying makeup to lock in the look.

A Luminous Base

The key to an all-over toasty glow starts with your makeup base. New York-based celebrity makeup artist Claudia Lake, who has worked with everyone from Oscar Isaac to Djo, recommends using an illuminating foundation with ingredients like oils or light-reflecting particles to provide an effortless shine to skin. If you prefer a more matte look, Sage Makeup recommends using a light, sheer foundation to start. You can also use concealer to hide any blemishes and add a brightening effect on the high points of your face.

Beachy Bronzer

“The toasted makeup trend embraces a radiant, sun-kissed glow that evokes warm summer days with soft, bronzed hues and a touch of warmth,” Lake says. That makes bronzer the most important part of the entire look. Lake recommends blending the bronzer of your choice onto your cheeks and temples to create a natural warmth across your face, while Gehr recommends tracing a “3” shape on each side of your face and blending it out for a seamless contour.

Sun-Kissed Cheeks

While blush isn’t necessary to achieve the toasty makeup trend, you can always give your makeup added depth by adding a burst of warm color across your cheeks and nose, in a subtle baby pink for that beachy glow. Rhode’s Sun Soak, Toasted Teddy, or Tan Line work for this particular trend, or Sage Makeup recommends a combination of pink and peach placed on the apple of your cheek and blended into your contour for a perfect flush.

Gehr recommends adding a little blush over your eyelids as well to tie the tones together. “Using the same shade on the eyes and face helps ‘marry’ the entire complexion and create that sculpted, diffused warmth the trend is known for,” she says. “The key is blending — everything should look soft and natural, never harsh.”

Champagne Highlight

Much like blush, highlighter isn’t required to achieve the toasty makeup trend, but it can instantly amplify the look — especially if you’re headed to a New Year Eve’s party. Opt for a champagne or bronze highlighter, which easily blends with the warm-all-over tones you’re already using.

Honeyed Eyes

Bronzer might be the focal point, it’s important you don’t forget your eyes. In addition to the blush you’ve swiped on your lids, Lake recommends leaning into earthy eyeshadows — think honeyed golds, cozy browns, and even deep greens — for a cohesive look.

Glossy Lips

Don’t go overboard with the finishing touches. Lake says all you need to complete the toasty makeup trend is a soft nude lip, which will provide an “effortlessly chic vibe.” If nude lipstick isn’t your thing, line your lips in a teddy brown and top with a clear (or brown-tinted) gloss.

Glow Like The Christmas Lights: Expert Skincare Hacks For Winter Festivities | Lifestyle News

Last Updated:December 23, 2025, 15:46 IST

Aesthetic experts share winter skincare tips to combat dryness, dullness, and dehydration during Christmas and New Year celebrations for healthy, glowing skin.

Cold air, low humidity, indoor heating, late nights, and heavy makeup can quickly dull that holiday glow, unless your skincare routine rises to the occasion.

Christmas and New Year are nothing short of magical. Streets glow with fairy lights, playlists turn festive, calendars fill up with parties, and every evening feels like an occasion worth dressing up for. But while the season lifts our spirits, winter quietly takes a toll on our skin. Cold air, low humidity, indoor heating, late nights, and heavy makeup can quickly dull that holiday glow, unless your skincare routine rises to the occasion.

According to Dr Milli Sinha, Aesthetic Physician at La Clinique and expert, Oteria, winter festivities significantly weaken the skin’s natural defence system. “The skin barrier breaks down more easily during winter due to low humidity, cold temperatures, and prolonged indoor heating,” she explains. “This leads to increased water loss, dehydration, and sensitivity. Add late-night parties and heavy makeup to the mix, and the skin’s natural recovery cycle gets disrupted making it look dull and fatigued.”

Her advice? A routine rooted in gentle cleansing, barrier repair, antioxidants, and consistent hydration to restore skin strength and maintain a healthy glow through the festive season.

Echoing this sentiment, Pravin Bera, co-founder, Dr Rashel, highlights the importance of season-appropriate skincare. “Winter festivities often mean longer nights, heavier makeup, and frequent exposure to cold weather, all of which can dehydrate the skin and affect its texture,” he says. “Keeping the routine simple, gentle, and hydration-focused is key to preventing dullness, congestion, and sensitivity.”

With expert-backed insight guiding the way, here are festive-season skincare hacks to help you glow as bright as the Christmas lights.

1. Double Cleanse, Don’t Over-Cleanse

After long days of party makeup, sunscreen, and winter pollution, cleansing should feel like care not punishment. Start with a nourishing oil or balm cleanser to dissolve makeup and grime, followed by a gentle, hydrating face wash. Ingredients like white tea offer antioxidant protection, soothe inflammation, and help keep fine lines and pigmentation in check—leaving skin clean, calm, and luminous.

2. Hydration Layering Is Non-Negotiable

Winter calls for more than a single moisturising step. Adopt the “skin flooding” technique by layering hydration: begin with a hydrating toner or essence, follow with a hyaluronic acid serum, and seal it in with a cream enriched with ingredients like horse chestnut seed extract to support microcirculation and skin vitality.

3. Antioxidants Are Your Festive Shield

Late nights, indulgent meals, and pollution increase oxidative stress. Vitamin C, niacinamide, and green tea extracts work overtime to brighten dull skin, even out tone, and protect against environmental damage ensuring your glow stays uninterrupted throughout the celebrations.

4. Mist to Instantly Revive Your Glow

Skip heavy touch-ups and keep a lightweight hydrating mist in your bag. A quick spritz refreshes makeup, soothes dryness, and revives tired skin instantly perfect for long evenings, packed schedules, and back-to-back celebrations.

5. Night Repair Is Where the Glow Builds

Winter nights are prime time for skin recovery. Use barrier-repairing night creams with retinol to support collagen production and firmness. Pair this with an under-eye serum infused with sweet orange and brown algae to reduce puffiness and signs of fatigue. This post-party ritual helps skin bounce back from late nights, rich food, and cold air, so you wake up looking rested and radiant.

Festive skincare isn’t about excess, it’s about intention. With the right balance of hydration, protection, and repair, your skin can stay calm, resilient, and luminous all season long. After all, the best festive glow isn’t just makeup-deep, it starts with healthy, well-cared-for skin.

Blurred Lips Are The Cool-Girl Makeup Trend To Try This Winter

Blurred Lips Are The Cool-Girl Makeup Trend To Try This Winter

In recent weeks the look has gone viral on TikTok and Instagram, with makeup artists and creators trying to copy it. As makeup artist Tanielle Jai previously told Glamour, kissable lips are one of the biggest beauty trends to watch especially heading into 2026, with semi-matte balms popular among brands like Chanel Beauty, Violette_Fr, Saie and Louis Vuitton Beautè.

“I think we’ll be seeing less emphasis on defined lip liner and more of that ‘bitten lip’ look inspired by Korean and French beauty trends,” Tanielle says. “It’s a soft, blurred, just-kissed, lived-in matte style that feels effortless.”

Park has kept light-lipped about her method, but creator Ivan Lam recently shared a Park-inspired tutorial on how to get the blurred-lip look. “It always has the signature Nina Park touch,” Lam says in the video. “It looks like your natural self but better, which I really love right now.”

First, Lam starts by prepping the lips with the Prada Beauty Hydrating Lip Balm, letting it sit on skin to hydrate. Next, he takes a cool-tone lip liner from Make Up for Ever and overlines the cupids bow. To get that signature blurred look, he uses a smudging brush to diffuse the colour.

“What [Park] kind of does is smudge it out so it’s never a solid line,” Lam says. Then, he layers it with a rosy liner from Makeup by Mario to add back some definition and colour. Lastly, he tops things off with the Nooni Hydrating & Plumping Lip Oil in a rosy pink colour, to “give life back” into the lips, tapping the product on with his finger.

“The liners are really cool toned, which is why I think the makeup looks so good,” Lam says. “It’s a mixture of cool tone and warm tones.” In the comments, Park gave her seal of approval: “In love with this,” she wrote.

Dr. Vanita Rattan on how to keep your skin glowing over the holidays

Dermatologists and skincare experts are calling this phenomenon “Christmas Face.”

Global skin doctor and founder of skincare line Dr. Vanita Rattan explains that late nights, overindulgence in alcohol and sugary foods, and disrupted routines are the main culprits behind the seasonal skin slump.

She shares six key habits to watch out for and how to keep your skin glowing throughout the holidays.

1. Alcohol

Alcohol is one of the fastest ways to dehydrate your skin because it’s a diuretic, increasing urine production and causing the body to lose more fluids than it takes in.

SEASON’S EATINGS

I lose 1st to gorge on 14k calories at Xmas… 5 tips that save my waistline

HAIR-RIFIC

I showed off my hair growth journey but got trolled for the before pic

As a diuretic, it increases fluid loss, leaving skin dry, flaky, and rough.

Fine lines and wrinkles can also appear more pronounced.

Alcohol depletes essential nutrients needed for skin repair, slowing down cell regeneration.

To combat this, Dr Rattan recommends using a ceramide- and peptide-rich moisturiser, such as a CeraPep cream, to boost hydration, improve texture, and strengthen the skin barrier.

2. Sugary treats

Christmas indulgences like roast dinners and sweet treats are high in saturated fats, which can disrupt gut bacteria and trigger inflammation.

This often leads to excess sebum production, clogged pores, and acne breakouts.

According to Dr. Rattan, cleansing twice daily with a blemish-controlling cleanser and following with a PM Gel Moisturizer containing glycerin to hydrate, niacinamide to control sebum, and salicylic acid to unclog pores can help.

Dr Rattan said: “It’s important to remember that achieving clearer skin isn’t just about avoiding certain foods.

“It’s about maintaining a solid skincare routine to combat inflammation which can lead to acne.”

3. Late nights

Sleep is crucial for skin repair. During rest, skin regenerates and recovers, helping your complexion look refreshed.

Lack of sleep leaves skin stressed, inflamed, and prone to breakouts.

Late nights and binge-drinking not only leave you feeling tired and hungover, but also make your skin look tired.

Prioritise getting 8-9 hours of sleep during the festive season
to keep your skin radiant and healthy.

4. Sleeping in makeup

It may be tempting to skip your nighttime routine after a long night out, but leaving makeup on can penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, preventing hydration and causing dryness and irritation.

Eye makeup can clog follicles, increasing the risk of infection.

Dr. Rattan recommends using a non-comedogenic, oil-melting cleanser to remove makeup gently without irritating the skin.

5. Dehydration

Hydration starts from within, and it’s easy to forget to drink enough water amid festive celebrations.

Proper hydration keeps skin plump and glowing.

According to Dr. Rattan, including water-rich snacks such as cucumbers, watermelon, and celery in your Christmas menu helps, as does sparkling water or herbal teas as an enjoyable alternative to sugary drinks.

6. Winter weather

Cold winter temperatures, combined with dry indoor heating, can strip the skin of natural oils, causing dryness, flakiness, and sensitivity.

Dr. Rattan advises protecting your skin with warm clothing like scarves, applying a barrier cream to lock in moisture, and using broad-spectrum SPF50++++ year-round to prevent UV-related damage.

With these six expert tips, it’s possible to keep your skin healthy and radiant – even through the indulgences and celebrations of the festive season.

Skincare expert shares 5 tips for perfect skin this winter

Skincare expert shares 5 tips for perfect skin this winter

As the colder months creep up on us, the temperature change can wreak havoc on our bodies and make it difficult for us to look and feel our best.

This is why specialist skincare pharmacist Yasar Hussain has warned that the drop in temperature and lower humidity, paired with harsh winds, can be abrasive on our skin.

For example, these conditions can cause damage to capillary beds in the skin, leading to redness and sensitivity.

Skincare expert warns against skin damage over the winter

Discussing the challenges winter poses for our skin, Mr Hussain from prescription dermatology service MiQuest said: “Winter can be a challenging time for our skin, and it will have different needs in the colder, darker months than it does at other times of the year.

“The combination of cold, wet air our skin is exposed to outdoors, and the warm, dry air of indoor central heating can certainly leave it looking and feeling less than its best.

“The so-called winter uglies are a very real experience for many people at this time of year, but thankfully, there are a number of easy and effective ways to tackle them.

“It’s vital to keep skin properly hydrated through winter, which you can do through applying moisturiser each day, eating healthy fats, avoiding dehydrating caffeine and alcohol and drinking plenty of water.

“Another tip is to avoid hot showers, which can strip the skin’s barrier of its natural oils, and protect your skin from the harsh weather as much as possible by covering up key areas such as your face, neck and hands where possible.

“Being aware of the different challenges your skin faces at this time of year and how to avoid them can go a long way.”

Skincare expert shares 5 things you need to do if you want perfect skin this winter

Here are his top five skincare tips to help your skin look its best this winter.

Keep your skin moisturised

Colder temperatures and a drop in air humidity, as well as warm, dry air indoors, can disrupt the skin barrier and make it harder to keep moisture locked in.

This is why it is important to ensure your skin is protected against moisture loss, which can lead to issues like dry, itchy and dull skin.

An easy way is to ensure you are drinking enough water, or make changes to your skincare routine, such as adopting a moisturising cleanser or a richer moisturiser.

Avoid harsh chemicals

Our skin produces its own natural oils, such as sebum, to moisturise and protect itself, but harsh chemicals in creams, oils and other skincare products can strip these away.

In winter, it’s better to switch to more natural cleansers and moisturisers with fewer chemicals, alcohols and fragrances.

Instead, opt for products high in organic ingredients such as shea butter, cocoa butter, peptides and aloe vera.

Wrap up for the weather

British wintertime is often not for the faint of heart, and powerful storms, driving rain and gale force winds can all take their toll on our skin.

Keep key areas such as the face, neck and hands covered up while outdoors to protect against windburn or irritation.

A good lip balm is also a useful weapon to keep dry, cracked skin at bay.

Avoid hot showers

Many people enjoy a hot shower in winter, but it can cause disruption to the skin’s barrier and strip it of much-needed moisture.

While taking a hot shower every so often won’t wreak havoc on your skin, too many hot showers can gradually strip away the natural oils, weaken the barrier and increase transepidermal water loss.

Instead, it’s better to keep the temperature at a moderate level and not spend too much time exposed to hot water.

Tweak your diet

What we eat and drink plays a vital role in keeping our skin at its best, and healthy fats can play a huge role in maintaining our skin barrier and locking in moisture.

They can be found in a range of food items, including avocado, oily fish such as salmon, tuna and mackerel, nuts and seeds.

Meanwhile, other skin-friendly nutrients are worth getting into your diet, including vitamin A, found in spinach, vitamin C, found in citrus fruits, and zinc, which is found in beef, poultry and shellfish.

Essential winter skincare tips to keep your skin soft and glowing

Essential winter skincare tips to keep your skin soft and glowing

During the winter season, our body requires extra care, especially the skin, which can easily become dry, itchy, and rough due to cold winds and low humidity.

If you want your skin to remain soft, glowing, and refreshed even in winter, adopting a few simple yet effective precautions can help maintain your daily skincare routine.

Cleansing and bathing:

Proper cleansing and bathing are essential. Long, hot showers may feel comforting during winter but strip your skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and itchiness. Experts recommend using lukewarm water and limiting showers to 10–15 minutes. Immediately after bathing, when your skin is slightly damp, apply a moisturizer or cream to lock in moisture.

Moisturizing and skin protection:

Moisturizing is crucial as cold air draws moisture out of the skin. Use a quality moisturizer containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, glycerin, or oils. Thick creams or oils are preferable over light, water-based lotions, especially for rough or dry skin. Pay extra attention to hands, elbows, ankles, and other areas most affected by the cold.

Use gentle and mild cleansers for washing. Soaps and fragranced washes can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. Opt for sulfate-free, color- and fragrance-free cleansers or cream-based washes.

Use of humidifiers:

Indoor heating, air conditioners, or solar heaters can dry out the air, which in turn dries out the skin. A small humidifier in your room or office can restore moisture to the air, slowing down the drying process of your skin.

Exfoliating dead skin cells:

For a fresh and radiant look, include light exfoliation in your skincare routine but avoid overdoing it. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, allowing new ones to breathe, while a gentle scrub ensures the protective skin layer is not damaged.

Healthy diet and hydration:

Alongside external care, maintaining internal health is equally important. Drinking sufficient water daily helps retain skin moisture, and in dry winter conditions, dehydration can worsen skin dryness. Additionally, foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins C and E, and other nutrients—like fish, nuts, fruits, and vegetables—support skin elasticity and radiance.

Protection from ultraviolet rays:

Do not forget sunscreen, regardless of winter or summer! Even when sunlight is weak, UV rays are present. Apply SPF sunscreen before going outdoors, including on snowy or damp days, to protect your skin from UV damage and dryness.

Winter skincare requires effort but is essential. Short lukewarm showers, gentle cleansers, moisturizing creams and oils, humidifiers, a nutritious diet, adequate water intake, soft clothing, and sunscreen together create an environment in which your skin can remain soft, healthy, and glowing despite the cold.
