non-toxic beauty

Non-toxic beauty routine – WellBeing Magazine

From hidden chemicals in skincare to the air in our homes. Here’s how to transition to a non-toxic beauty routine without the overwhelm.

Beauty and health today can feel overwhelming, dominated by complicated routines, synthetic ingredients and quick fixes. There is a more sustainable path, one rooted in nature and focused on long-term wellbeing. Living clean and avoiding toxins isn’t just a trend. It’s a healthier lifestyle that benefits your skin, body and overall wellbeing. If you’re aspiring to feel and look your best, switching to natural, toxin-free habits can make a significant difference.

Hidden toxins in everyday products

Many of the products we use every day — skincare, haircare, even home cleaning supplies — contain synthetic chemicals that can negatively impact our health. Parabens, often used as preservatives, can mimic hormones in the body and disrupt the endocrine system. This hormone interference may lead to developmental, reproductive or neurological issues over time. Sulphates, commonly found in cleaning and personal-care products, can irritate the skin and scalp, strip away natural oils and potentially lead to dryness or increased sensitivity. Phthalates, used to enhance fragrance, are linked to hormone disruption and may affect fertility, as well as increase the risk of chronic health issues such as asthma or allergies.

The problem lies in their widespread use and the cumulative effect these toxins have on both your body and the environment. Prolonged exposure can burden your hormonal and immune systems and may leave you more vulnerable to health issues over time. Meanwhile, the disposal of chemical-laden products pollutes waterways and soil, harming ecosystems and wildlife. By becoming aware of these hidden toxins, you can make small, conscious changes that support your health while reducing your environmental footprint.

Smart swaps

Transitioning to non-toxic living doesn’t have to be overwhelming or overly expensive. Before overhauling your entire bathroom cabinet, start with simple, high-impact swaps.

Take conventional antiperspirants as an example. They often contain aluminium to block sweat glands, an approach that is unnatural for your body. Aluminium has been linked to hormonal disruptions and potential long-term health concerns. Switching to natural deodorants made with ingredients such as baking soda, magnesium or coconut oil allows your body to sweat naturally while controlling odour with antimicrobial and detoxifying properties. Over time, this simple change not only reduces exposure to questionable ingredients but also helps your body function as it was designed.

The same principle applies to hair care. Mass-market shampoos are often loaded with sulphates, synthetic fragrances and silicones that strip the scalp’s natural oils and cause build-up, leading to dry or irritated skin. Instead, opt for clay- or vinegar-based rinses, which cleanse your hair while maintaining scalp health and restoring pH balance. You can also use shampoo bars made from natural oils, herbs and botanical extracts for a sustainable, gentle alternative. These swaps not only support scalp health but also reduce plastic waste associated with conventional bottled products.

Next, you can tackle your makeup choices. Many conventional formulas contain parabens, synthetic dyes and talc that can clog pores or irritate sensitive skin. Choosing mineral-based or plant-based foundations, blushes and eyeshadows avoids these harmful ingredients while still delivering great results. Mineral makeup is celebrated for its lightweight feel and natural-looking coverage.

Synthetic fragrances in perfumes, lotions and body sprays can contain dozens of undisclosed chemicals, as reported by the Environmental Working Group and the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. These hidden ingredients can accumulate in the body and contribute to hormone disruption, allergies and other sensitivities over time. Instead, embrace natural scents made from essential oils, plants or botanical extracts. Not only are they gentler on your skin, but they also off er aromatherapeutic benefits that promote relaxation, energy or focus, depending on the blend you choose.

The products you use for oral care deserve equal scrutiny. Conventional toothpastes and mouthwashes often contain artificial flavourings, synthetic foaming agents and harsh chemicals like triclosan. Switching to toothpastes made from activated charcoal, baking soda or herbal ingredients can support oral hygiene without damaging enamel or irritating your gums. Look for mouthwashes with essential oils like peppermint or tea tree, which have antibacterial and refreshing properties without the alcohol content that dries out your mouth.

Making these small, focused swaps helps lower your toxin load while building sustainable habits that become second nature over time.

Sustaining non-toxic living

Once you’ve mastered a few swaps, the next step is making clean living sustainable amid the pressures and temptations of modern living.

Keep it simple

When you first transition to a non-toxic lifestyle, it’s tempting to replace every product at once. However, a cluttered shelf — even if filled with eco-friendly options — can lead to decision fatigue and unnecessary consumption. Instead, a minimalist approach helps you focus on quality over quantity. For instance, streamline your skincare routine by choosing a few multipurpose products with simple, non-toxic ingredient lists. This “less is more” philosophy ensures that your choices align with your values and prevent waste. You can apply this same approach to household items, cleaning supplies and even diet by prioritising fewer, high-quality essentials rather than an overwhelming variety.

Build habits gradually

It’s important to remember that transitioning to a non-toxic lifestyle isn’t about achieving instant perfection. Instead, focus on consistency. Swap out one toxic item at a time instead of overhauling your entire home overnight. Whether that’s replacing plastic containers with glass, choosing natural fibres for clothing or opting for homemade cleaning products, incremental changes are more manageable and likely to stick over the long term.

Create support

The journey becomes even more sustainable when you’re surrounded by individuals and groups who share your values. Connecting with like-minded communities passionate about natural health and clean living offers a wealth of benefits. It provides an opportunity to share tips, discover new resources and gain accountability. Online forums, social media groups or in-person wellness meet-ups can serve as a platform for exchanging ideas and progressing together. These connections also reinforce your mindset on tougher days when you might feel overwhelmed or tempted to revert to old habits.

Become a thoughtful consumer

Every product you purchase has the potential to either support or undermine your non-toxic lifestyle. By carefully reading labels, researching brands for transparency and considering whether an item truly aligns with your values and needs, you can make decisions that foster both sustainability and intentionality. Opt for small, local businesses or companies that emphasise ethical sourcing and eco-friendly production.

Shape your environment

Your environment matters too. Create a home or office that aligns with clean living by decluttering spaces and reducing exposure to potential toxins. Incorporate air-purifying plants, use natural cleaning solutions and eliminate synthetic fragrances. A clean, minimalistic space not only reduces toxin exposure but also promotes clarity and calmness, reinforcing positive habits.

Keep learning

Stay committed by equipping yourself with knowledge. Become informed about the latest research on non-toxic products, cooking practices or environmental toxins. Make time for self-care activities that support a non-toxic lifestyle, such as preparing fresh, wholesome meals, taking regular nature walks or practising mindfulness. Avoiding burnout is key. Nurturing both body and mind keeps you motivated for the long run.

What no one tells you

Transitioning to clean beauty and toxin-free living can be deeply rewarding, but it often comes with a few surprises. One of the most important lessons is that even natural ingredients are not universally for everyone. Plant-based products and essential oils, while beneficial for many, can still trigger irritation or sensitivity. Patch testing is essential. Essential oils should be diluted properly to avoid allergic reactions or sensitivity flare-ups.

Clean beauty requires shifting your mindset and adjusting expectations. Results can take time and embracing a slower, more mindful approach to self-care helps you stay patient and consistent. Think of it as an investment in long-term health, not a quick fix. One size doesn’t fit all. What works for one person may not work for another. Pay attention to how your skin and body respond, and don’t be afraid to simplify your routine until you find what truly supports you.

Beyond the basics

Swapping to toxin-free skincare is a great start and when you’re ready to go further, you can incorporate less-discussed beauty methods. Oil cleansing, dry brushing and facial massage are time-tested practices that improve skin health, boost circulation and encourage the body’s natural detox processes. Take your clean living to the next level with these rituals.

Conventional cleansers can strip your skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry and vulnerable to irritation. Oil cleansing offers a gentler, more nourishing alternative. Natural oils like jojoba, argan or rosehip bind to impurities such as dirt, makeup and excess oils, removing them without disrupting your skin’s natural moisture barrier. At the same time, these oils hydrate and replenish the skin. This method is suitable for all skin types, especially dry or sensitive skin, and leaves your face feeling clean, soft and balanced. Plus, skipping synthetic cleansers reduces exposure to harsh chemicals that can lead to long-term irritation or sensitivity.

Dry brushing is a simple yet powerful way to support natural detox. Using a soft-bristled brush, this technique gently exfoliates dead skin cells, leaving your skin smoother and healthier. The benefits extend beyond surface-level beauty. It stimulates lymphatic drainage, which helps your body eliminate toxins and boost circulation. Over time, this can lead to brighter, firmer skin and an overall sense of rejuvenation. Dry brushing is also a moment of mindful self-care, allowing you to connect with your body in a meaningful way without relying on chemical treatments or expensive spa procedures.

Facial massage is another underrated practice to naturally tone and refresh your skin. Techniques like gentle lymphatic tapping or gua sha sculpting are known to promote circulation, reduce puffiness and give your skin an organic glow. Combined with a nourishing oil — such as almond or avocado oil — you can also deeply hydrate and feed your skin with vitamins without the need for synthetic anti-ageing products. As an added bonus, regular facial massages can also relax facial muscles and reduce tension, supporting a more youthful appearance and overall sense of wellbeing.

Simple, Effective Ways to Upgrade Your Daily Routine

Simple, Effective Ways to Upgrade Your Daily Routine

Building a skincare routine does not have to be complicated. With a few targeted steps and the right products, men can maintain healthier, clearer, and more balanced skin every day. Modern men’s skincare focuses on simplicity and effectiveness, making it easy to integrate meaningful habits into any lifestyle. A consistent routine supports long term skin health, prevents dryness and irritation, and helps maintain a refreshed appearance.

Easy Essentials for Healthy Skin

A good routine begins with understanding the basics. Cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection form the foundation of healthy skin. Gentle cleansers remove dirt and oil without stripping essential moisture, keeping the skin balanced throughout the day. A lightweight moisturizer helps maintain hydration and supports the natural barrier, which plays a key role in protecting the skin from environmental stress.

Targeted treatments are also helpful. Men often experience concerns such as clogged pores, uneven tone, and occasional breakouts. Adding simple, lightweight formulas makes it easier to address these concerns without adding extra steps. Products created specifically for mens routines ensure that textures, ingredients, and results line up with everyday skin needs.

Dry Skin Solutions and Niacinamide Support

Dryness is a common issue for many men, especially during colder seasons or after shaving. Selecting the best skin products for dry skin can help soothe rough patches, restore moisture, and keep the skin soft and comfortable. Hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and nourishing oils help rebuild the moisture barrier and prevent further dryness.

For additional support, incorporating a niacinamide face lotion can make a noticeable difference. Niacinamide is known for its ability to improve tone, strengthen the skin barrier, reduce redness, and support a smoother complexion. It is gentle enough for daily use and fits easily into both minimalist and more detailed routines.

Pairing hydrating products with consistent daily care helps create a balanced routine that works all year long. Whether dealing with dryness, uneven texture, or dullness, choosing the right combination of products can elevate skin health without added complexity.

A simple and effective mens routine focuses on practicality. Cleanse, moisturize, and apply targeted treatments as needed. With the right products, these steps feel effortless and deliver visible results. Foundation Skincare offers options that support hydration, clarity, and comfort, making it easy to build a routine that fits seamlessly into any day.

By incorporating mens specific essentials, dryness solutions, and niacinamide support, men can maintain skin that feels healthy, smooth, and refreshed. A thoughtful routine does not require many steps. Just consistent care and the right formulas can lead to long lasting improvements and healthier looking skin overall.

Why Amika shampoo and conditioner deserve a spot in your New Jersey beauty routine

Self-care is not just a buzzword, self-care is a culture.

New Jersey’s vibrant LGBTQ community values self-expression, which includes choices about hair. Whether it’s a striking color, an artful Afro, or sleek tresses, hair speaks to the world about who we are and how we show up. And when it comes to the bold and the beautiful, good hair begins with the right hair care — Amika shampoo and conditioner will keep your tresses looking fab.

Living in Jersey City, spending your weekends in Asbury Park, or chilling at home in Montclair can take a toll on your hair. It faces the sun, humidity, your hot tools, and sometimes, the trauma of going back to your natural shade after trying out an array of colors. Using a professional-grade shampoo and conditioner can help protect and nourish your hair and ensure it is ready to face New Jersey head-on.

Why hair care matters for LGBTQ folks

Hair means a lot to a lot of people, especially within LGBTQ communities. It’s political. It’s personal. It’s not just hair — it’s a part of who we are. It’s an outlet for our identities and creativity. And the moment we color it, cut it, split ends, we have to take care of it so it lives its best life.

So Amika’s products cater to all hair types — whether curly, straight, coily, or wavy — in more ways than one. That’s hydration. That’s health. That’s what you need when your hair is a part of your gender toolkit.

The New Jersey climate factor

Living in New Jersey means dealing with constantly changing weather. In the summer, the humidity can make your hair into a giant puffball of frizz, while the dry, cold months of winter will leave your locks dehydrated and lacking luster. Amika shampoo and conditioner with Moisture Balance technology provide hydration against anything the climate can throw at you, keeping hair soft, smooth, and resilient all year long.

For an LGBTQ person who loves blowouts, coloring, and styling, these products work as safeguards against damage and color fading. Which is super important when you have those unicorn colors and vivid highlights. After all, we don’t just want clean hair — we want hair that is full of life, vivid, loud, and ready to cause a scene anywhere you go.

Confidence that withstands the weather

Weather in New Jersey can be unpredictable — the humidity of summer, a constant drizzle, or freezing winds late in the year — and your hair can easily bear the brunt. Healthy, well-maintained hair isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about inspiring confidence wherever the weather may lead. Using Amika shampoo and conditioner will help you maintain locks that appear healthy, supple, and ready to combat the ravaging effects of moisture, frizz, or drought. When your hair can stand the test of any weather, you can put your best foot forward, try out new looks, and be free to express yourself, rain or shine.

A routine that fits your lifestyle

The LGBTQ community in New Jersey enjoys an active social calendar — Pride celebrations, drag brunches, beach days down in Asbury Park, or hanging with our friends over mimosas. We love looking cute, but also need a hair care routine that fits into our busy lives!

Using a sulfate-free shampoo, the right conditioner, and other products — like this set from Amika, for those who want salon-quality hair at home — is the key to keeping your hair looking fabulous on your night out in Hoboken, or your “no-makeup face” kind of day in Jersey City. It’ll also protect your color, help prevent breakage, and maintain the health of your hair between styles.

Express yourself without compromise

Your hair is one way you clearly express yourself. Whether you’re trying out new, bold styles or his or her cuts and colors, the products you use will allow you the freedom to do so. Amika shampoo and conditioner give you what you need, free from judgment. Taking care of your hair doesn’t mean limiting who you are; it means setting the base for you to be you.

From curls to straighteners, to big and bold color, New Jersey’s LGBTQ community needs a brand with shampoo and conditioner that is as unapologetic as you are with expressing yourself. With the right products, love, and care, you have a lot to be proud of.

Hair care is as individualized as you! Hair care is an art. It’s one way LGBTQ folks in New Jersey express themselves. The right hair care can make a statement, or it can be a reflection of your personality. The products you use, like Amika shampoo and conditioner, are the colors in your toolkit. Hair care is the tool to uncompromising self-expression. Professional products help you make sure your hair is as healthy and strong as your voice.

Quality hair care isn’t fancy. It’s necessary. Your hair is part of your identity. With the right hair tools in your arsenal, you can make sure your commanding personal expression is never compromised.

Former NHS GP urges 'try £37 routine for fine lines before botox'

Former NHS GP urges ‘try £37 routine for fine lines before botox’

A former NHS GP has encouraged individuals to trial a three-month skincare regime ‘before considering Botox’. Dr Sam Bunting, a Harley Street dermatologist and former host of TLC’s Extreme Beauty Disasters, believes those contemplating cosmetic procedures will be ‘pleasantly surprised’ by the outcomes.

Dr Sam, who also founded the dermatologist-backed skincare brand Dr Sam’s, has stated that now is the ‘perfect time’ to embark on a fresh skincare routine in preparation for the New Year. Given that skin requires six weeks to regenerate, those investing in their skincare regimen now could achieve a radiant, rejuvenated complexion by 2026. With this in mind, Sam has created her very own £37 Radiance Kit, a six-week kit she says will help skin glow again.

The Radiance Kit can be all yours for £37 (Image: Dr Sam’s)

The updated Radiance Kit combines five of the brand’s most popular formulations to address the appearance of fine lines, dull complexions and uneven skin tone. Compact and travel-sized, the products within this glow-boosting routine pledge a fortnight of noticeable results in one gift-ready package.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Dr Sam said: “I tend to think of skincare prep in blocks of six weeks, whether I’m getting my patients ready for a wedding or anything of that kind, as the skin cycle tends to have a cell renewal process of about 40 days. So now is the perfect opportunity.”

She continues: “You can have so much fun with makeup when you’re skin is in excellent condition so lets solve any breakouts whether it’s breakouts, blocked pores or skin that just looks just a bit dull. With just under four weeks to go until Christmas, now is the perfect time to stage a little intervention.”

Dr Sam’s champions a no-nonsense skincare philosophy and believes that a simplified routine works brilliantly for anyone wanting great skin without the fuss. Navigating which products to buy can feel daunting, especially for those only just venturing beyond using a cleanser in the shower, which is precisely why she’s created her Radiance Kit in the first place.

The set also contains everything required to build the ultimate skincare regime for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles at home, making it ideal for those considering cosmetic treatments but preferring to avoid them. Dr Sam advises her patients to try the three-month skincare programme before taking such steps.

She explained: “If you increase collagen in the skin and make it thicker, you not only erase existing lines but you also prevent new ones from forming. I vary rarely do procedures in the clinic without giving somebody a three month topical regime to try.

“My patients are typically pleasantly surprised from the results of just doing skincare routine first. It’s the reason why I’ve adopted a skincare-first approach in my clinic.”

Here’s everything included within the Radiance Kit:

  • Flawless Cleanser (200ml): Gentle and effective cleansing to support the skin barrier AM-PM.
  • Flawless Moisturiser (50ml): Luxurious daily hydration and barrier support.
  • Flawless Daily Sunscreen (50ml): Powerful broad-spectrum UV protection.
  • Flawless Brightly 10% Azelaic Acid Serum (30ml): Targets pores, dullness and pigmentation.
  • Flawless Nightly 2% Retinoid Serum (30ml): Clears pores, reduces post-blemish dark marks and prevents future blemishes.

Alternatively, The Ordinary’s Mini Icons is available for £17.40. This collection offers a trio of miniature hero products from the brand, with complementary cotton pads, to brighten and hydrate uneven skin tone.

For another option, Sephora’s Skincare Must Haves Set, worth £254.30, is on sale for £69. This limited-edition collection features a selection of cult-favourite, bestselling skincare products from brands such as Caudalie, Medik8, Tatcha and more.

Over at Dr Sam’s, the Radiance Kit boasts an impressive star-rating of 4.5 out of five from 130 customer reviews. One thrilled shopper said: “I am glowing. These products are amazing. Nothing has had such a positive effect on my skin, ever.”

Before and after using Dr Sam’s Radiance Kit (Image: Dr Sam’s)

Another customer enthused: “This kit is incredible. I can’t believe the difference in my skin. I’ve only been using the kit for three weeks and already my skin is clearer and glowing. I’m absolutely going to purchase the full size products.”

A third reviewer added: “After endless amount of skincare products, I have finally found one that is easy and works. I’ve had hormonal acne my whole adult life and never found products that have been able to help minimise.

“The transformation kit allowed me to trial the kit first and see if it worked for me and I was not disappointed. I have gone on to buy full size products and continuing my skin journey.”

Shoppers insist their skin ‘is glowing’ after using the products in the Radiance Kit (Image: Dr Sam’s)

However, one customer gave the Radiance Kit a three-star review, describing it as ‘underwhelming’. They added: “I don’t know if I expected more from the great reviews I read, but this kit has rather underwhelmed me. All fragrance-free. And the textures exist as they are, rather than feeling pleasurable. The two serums are probably the best bits for me, though I don’t think I will be repurchasing.”

Another was thrilled with their Dr Sam’s purchase, stating: “Great little starter kit to try them out and see which products you like and they are also great for travelling. I am in love with the moisturiser and think it’s my favourite out of all of them. My skin is much clearer, brighter and glowing.”

The Bare-Minimum Skincare Routine For Men Who Hate Skincare

The Bare-Minimum Skincare Routine For Men Who Hate Skincare

I’m not really here to make you fall in love with skincare but rather chit chat about what’s worth getting out of bed and what’s not if you at all wish to look younger than you do right now.

When a friend of mine, Aarav, moved to Mumbai, he did so with three things: ambition, a backpack and a delusional conviction that one bar of soap could single-handedly maintain the entirety of his dermatological destiny.

Face? Soap.

Body? Soap.

Existential crisis? Hot shower with the same soap.

For a while, this monastic minimalism held steady. Until Mumbai intervened.

Weeks of seawind humidity, traffic fumes, late-night vada pav pilgrimages and the spiritual chaos of local trains gradually sculpted a version of him even he didn’t recognise. Duller, rougher, prematurely exhausted.

During a routine video call, his cousin (a long-suffering dermatologist who had spent years preaching the gospel of basic skincare) stared at his face and asked him why he looked like an off-duty rickshaw driver.

That line landed harder than Mumbai rent.

So he grudgingly began focusing on the most necessary bits of men’s skincare. And I’m sharing with you the minimal routine that rescued him.

Table of Contents

1. The Replacement of Your Soap

© Instagram/Kartik Aaryan

Your soap works against your face. Know that. Bar soaps possess a caustic pH that strips your skin of lipids faster than Mumbai landlords strip you of savings.

This results in dryness, dullness, random rough patches and gives your face an exhausted aesthetic.

A cleanser changes everything — subtly, efficiently, elegantly. Look for gel or foam formulations from houses like Aesop, Kiehl’s, Clinique, CeraVe or Dermalogica.

They cleanse and also restore equilibrium. Ten seconds. One wash. Zero emotional labour.

2. Twice-A-Week Ritual Of Exfoliating

© Instagram/Rohit Saraf

Men underestimate exfoliation because it sounds like effort. Ironically, it’s the least effort for the most visible payoff.

A chemical exfoliant (AHA/BHA) dissolves dead skin, unclogs pores and reveals a smoother, clearer canvas — a process ordinarily accomplished only by good genetics or divine intervention.

Use it two evenings a week. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Recommended: Paula’s Choice BHA, The Ordinary Glycolic, Murad AHA/BHA

3. Serum – The One Step That Makes You Look Expensive

© Instagram/Vedang Raina

Serums are potent, refined, sophisticated. They are the haute couture of skincare.

This is the product grooming editors, dermatologists, celebrities and even the PR girls at fashion week rely on when they need to look luminous on zero sleep. For Indian male skin battling pollution, fatigue and erratic routines, a Vitamin C or Niacinamide serum is alchemy. It can brighten, strengthen, even tone and fight dullness.

Think of it as an espresso shot with antioxidants for your skin.

Luxury picks: Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair, Augustinus Bader Light Serum, La Roche-Posay, Minimalist, Korean formulations if you want that sleek K-drama luminosity.

4. Moisturiser Because Hydrated Skin Makes You Look Competent

© Instagram/Abhay Verma

Moisturisers don’t make your skin unnecessarily extra shiny; they refine your skin. Hydration is the difference between looking tired and looking ready to attend a wedding.

It makes your skin appear smoother, softer and more conventionally successful, the way CEOs and men in Tata ads always mysteriously look.

Look for featherlight textures like Clinique Moisture Surge, Neutrogena Hydro Boost, Belif Aqua Bomb, Plum Men, Forest Essentials Light Gel.

5. The Night Ritual

© Instagram/Sparsh Shrivastava

Nighttime is when your skin repairs the sins of your day — sun, sweat, traffic, stress, questionable food choices, emotional burnout, everything.

Your nighttime routine is simple but very important. Cleanser, Serum, Moisturiser.

Nothing elaborate. Nothing intimidating. Nothing that requires a ring light or 12-step Korean manuals. Just three actions that reverse environmental damage while you dream of a life where you have better habits.

The Final Word

You don’t need a doctoral thesis in skincare. You don’t need 17 products. You don’t need to turn into that man on Instagram who stores moisturiser in a skincare fridge.

You just need five aristocratically minimal steps, tested and approved by dermatologists, loved by lazy men.

It’s a given that the magic doesn’t happen overnight but if in a month or so people around you recognise the improvement, that’s the highest compliment a man can earn without any actual effort.

The Ultimate Indian Skincare Routine: Experts Reveal What Actually Works | Beauty News

The Ultimate Indian Skincare Routine: Experts Reveal What Actually Works | Beauty News

Last Updated:December 01, 2025, 13:21 IST

From relentless humidity and harsh sun exposure to urban pollution, pigmentation, and seasonal dryness, Indian skin is constantly adapting.

Indian skincare should be gentle and climate-specific.

Indian skin behaves like the climate it lives in – beautiful, resilient, but constantly adapting. One day it glows, the next it rebels. Between harsh sunlight, humidity, pollution, and erratic seasonal swings, no single routine works year-round. What does help is a thoughtful, minimal approach anchored in comfort, consistency, and climate readiness. The perfect Indian skincare routine isn’t about 10 steps or global trends. It’s about listening to your skin and choosing products that support and not shock the skin barrier.

A Routine Shaped By Climate

Experts unanimously agree that any effective Indian skincare routine begins with understanding the environment. As Malini Adapureddy, Founder & CEO of Deconstruct, puts it, “Our climate shapes our skin. Most Indians naturally have oily or combination skin, which means lightweight, non-clogging formulas and the right actives are essential.” She emphasises that harsh products do more harm than good. “Using strong products thinking they’ll work faster weakens the barrier. A gentle routine that supports your skin is far more beneficial in the long run,” she adds.

Dr. Shalini Dubey, Medical Affairs Manager at Iberia Pharmaceuticals, echoes this, noting the need to adjust products with changing conditions. From Delhi’s dry winters to Mumbai’s coastal humidity, she explains that small tweaks, like swapping gel moisturisers for richer creams during colder months, help maintain balance. “Sunscreen is non-negotiable. Even on cloudy days, UV rays penetrate through windows and haze,” she stresses.

Dr. Mili Sinha, Aesthetic Physician at La Clinique and expert at Oteria, notes that Indian skin deserves routines crafted specifically for the region. “A perfect routine isn’t about copying global trends. With intense sun, humidity, and pollution, we must choose products suited to Indian conditions so the skin becomes healthier and more resilient,” she says.

Building The Ideal Indian Skincare Routine

1. Start with a gentle cleanse – Pollution, sweat, and dust cling to the skin, making cleansing essential, but never harsh. Look for soothing ingredients like aloe vera, niacinamide, or salicylic acid to purify without stripping.

2. Hydrate strategically – Gel moisturisers work best for oily and combination skin, while richer creams suit dry or mature skin. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamins A and E, and niacinamide help maintain hydration in heat and humidity.

3. Add targeted serums – Vitamin C brightens and fights pollution-induced dullness; niacinamide strengthens the barrier and fades marks; retinol or retinal improves texture when used slowly. Bakuchiol offers a gentler alternative for sensitive skin.

4. Protect with sunscreen daily – SPF 30 or higher with PA++++ protection is essential in a tropical climate. Lightweight formulas with soothing botanicals prevent tanning, spots, and premature ageing.

5. Exfoliate with care – Skip physical scrubs. Opt for once-a-week chemical exfoliation using lactic, glycolic, or salicylic acid. Overdoing it leads to pigmentation and irritation, which is an especially common concern in Indian skin.

6. Adapt your routine seasonally – Light, breathable products suit summer and monsoon, while winter demands barrier-repairing creams to combat dryness and flaking.

Great skin in India doesn’t come from complicated routines. It comes from consistency, gentle care, climate awareness, and patience. When your skin feels overwhelmed, simplify. When the weather changes, adjust. With the right foundation, Indian skin thrives naturally, no filters required.

New local beauty brand debuts with 3 essentials for a fuss-free routine

New local beauty brand debuts with 3 essentials for a fuss-free routine

Attention, beauty junkies: There’s a new local brand in town!

Ferca Beauty has officially launched in the Philippines, and it’s all about making routines easier and simpler without compromising the quality and fun of doing your makeup.

At an event held at the Century City Mall’s Events Center, the homegrown brand debuted with its initial product lineup: a lip gloss, a lip and cheek tint, and blush.

Speaking to GMA News Online, Ferca Beauty general manager Isabella Oca-Biron said that the brand’s premise is that makeup doesn’t have to be too fussy or too serious; it should be fun.

She also shared that the beauty brand is a product of Endure Medical, one of the country’s leading medical equipment suppliers.

“Ferca Beauty came like a project of Endure Medical to diversify and tap into the beauty industry,” she said.

“Coming from the medical industry, we already have credibility, and I think that’s very important because medical supplies and equipment really need to meet high standards, so we bring that [same standard of quality] to our makeup products,” she added.

For its initial release, Ferca Beauty has introduced Lip & Cheek Flush, Lip Gleam, and Blush Bloom – each with an introductory price of P199.

Lip & Cheek Flush is a light and hydrating water-gel tint that is non-sticky and long-wearing.

Meanwhile, Lip Gleam is a lip gloss that leaves your lips plump and dewy with high shine and a non-sticky formula.

Rounding up the trio is Blush Bloom, a creamy blush stick that can also be used as eyeshadow or lipstick.

Ferca Beauty is available online via TikTok Shop and Shopee. —JCB, GMA Integrated News

Best Skin Care Routine for Mature Skin, According to Dermatologists

Our skin is constantly evolving, which means changes to our regiments are sometimes needed — especially when it comes to finding the best skincare routine for mature skin.

While almost every skincare routine checks the same basic boxes — cleanse, treat, moisturise, repeat — mature skincare routines also typically target concerns like fine lines, loss of elasticity, and hyperpigmentation.

According to Dendy Engelman, MD, a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist, as we age, our skin loses moisture faster, and our collagen and elastin production starts to decline. Introducing anti-ageing ingredients like retinol, vitamin C, and peptides can go a long way, but building a consistent daily routine is just as important when caring for mature skin. We asked dermatologists and skin care experts for their tips to craft the best skincare routine for mature skin. Ahead, you’ll find…

The best morning routine for mature skin

Think of your morning skin care routine as your skin’s best defence against your environment and busy day. “The morning routine focuses on protecting the skin from UV exposure, pollution, and oxidative stress.” Paula Brezavseck, PA-C, board-certified physician associate and founder of Azala Skin Clinic, tells Glamour. Here’s what it should include:

Gentle Cleanser

“Use a mild, hydrating cleanser (cream or oil-based are good options) to remove impurities without stripping the skin’s natural moisture barrier,” says Angela Lamb, MD, director of the Westside Mount Sinai Dermatology Faculty Practice.

Serum

While not essential, a morning serum is a great opportunity to work some extra skin care actives into your routine without overwhelming your skin at night. “Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that protects the skin from UV rays and free-radical damage from stress and pollution,” says Dr. Palmer. “It also helps to build collagen and fade areas of hyperpigmentation.”

If you’re noticing more dryness in your skin throughout the day, you can also opt for a gentler hydrating serum for an extra shot of hydration. Look for a formula with peptides or hyaluronic acid — “a humectant that can hold up to 1,000x its weight in water, giving skin a plumper, smoother appearance and reducing the look of wrinkles caused by dehydration,” explains Whitney Hovenic, MD, double board-certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon.

  • Key ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid, Centella Asiatica, Glycerin.
  • Skin type: All skin types.
  • Fragranced? Lightly fragranced.
  • Cruelty-free? Yes.

Why we love it: As someone who lives for products that make life easier, this one is a total win. It’s a 3-in-1 serum – aka – a serum, moisturiser and primer packed into one chic, colourful bottle. The hyaluronic acid gives skin that juicy, plumped-up feel, while the primer element creates a smooth, radiant base, so makeup glides on like a dream.

Yes, it’s one of the pricier serums on the list, but here’s where the girl math comes in: you’re essentially getting three products in one, and the bottle is far bigger than most. For me, anything that’s going to save me time (and shelf space) is worth the investment – oh, and the results are pretty good too. – Shani Cohen, Glamour’s Beauty Commerce Writer.

Moisturiser

“Mature skin is often drier, so apply a good quality, fragrance-free mature skin moisturiser daily to trap water and keep skin hydrated,” Dr. Lamb says. “Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, or glycerin.”

SPF

If your daily moisturiser doesn’t include sun protection, make sure to add a layer of broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher — yes, even if it’s winter or you’re planning to be inside all day. “Sun protection is essential, especially on the face, neck, and hands, as UV exposure is one of the biggest drivers of visible aging,” Brezavseck says. The best evening routine for mature skin

While the morning skin care routine is all about prep and protection, nighttime is for recovery. Active ingredients work hard while you’re sleeping (without pesky environmental complications) to resolve common mature skin concerns. “Because the skin’s natural repair processes slow with age, nighttime consistency becomes especially important,” Brezavseck says. Here’s what you should use:

Cleanser

Since you’re washing your day off (sweat, makeup residue, dirt) you can opt for a lightly heavier-duty cleanser at night, like a foaming formula rather than a balm. But since mature skin care is all about preserving hydration, Dr. Lamb still says to avoid harsh soaps.

Retinol or retinoids

Retinol tends to be the centre-piece of the of the antiageing skin care routine and for good reason: “Retinol stimulate cell turnover, increases collagen production and decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It has also been shown to regulate oil production and decrease inflammation and hyperpigmentation,” says board-certified dermatologist Dr. Debbie Palmer.

That endorsement might make you want to start drenching your face in retinol serum nightly, but if you’re totally new to the ingredient — and especially if you have sensitive skin — start slow.
