DIY Christmas Gifts

140+ Homemade & DIY Christmas Gifts

I love Christmas morning… homemade cinnamon rolls, family, and giving thoughtful gifts. It’s so easy to let the commercialism of the Christmas season take over. Over the years though, I’ve found that the simple things are often the most meaningful. Store-bought gifts certainly have their place, but homemade gift ideas are usually budget-friendly and a great way to give a customized gift.

Our family focuses more on giving experiences than material gifts, but I still find DIY gifts a good option. There are so many great gift options for DIY homemade gifts. Below you’ll find lots of handmade gift ideas and suggestions for some simple gift baskets. Whether it’s under the Christmas tree or as a stocking stuffer, handmade Christmas gifts are an easy way to love on your friends and family.

Why Make DIY Christmas Gifts?

Modern society is flooded with stuff everywhere. We’ve been told that piles of toys, jewelry, and other goodies from Santa make the holidays. Thoughtful gifts, like easy DIY projects, not only save money but are a simple way to make Christmas more special.

And if you don’t have time for homemade gifts, it’s nothing to beat yourself up over. Spending quality time with loved ones is the important thing. If you’re looking for some last-minute gifts to buy, then check out my gift-giving guide for the whole family. I’ve also got a ton of great ideas for in my gift guide for her in this post.

I’ve divided some of the homemade Christmas gift ideas by type of person (grandparents, kids, men, etc.), so you can easily find something for everyone on your list. There’s a lot of crossover though, and some DIY projects in one category may be perfect for someone else on your list.

Don’t forget the gift wrapping! You can decorate plain paper gift bags. Have the kids help with some markers and stickers (if it’s for a grandparent). And if you’re really feeling crafty, make your own reusable fabric gift bags to use year after year.

DIY Christmas Decorations

While you’re making some homemade gifts, why not make your own Christmas decorations too? This DIY garland is made from natural materials like pine, cranberries, and dried oranges. Or try this tutorial for a burlap garland with ribbon and twine. I’ve also made some of these burlap wreaths to decorate our front door. For a table decoration, how about these naturally scented cinnamon pine cones?

And we can’t forget the Christmas cards! When my kids were little they’d wear matching outfits for our Christmas photo for annual Christmas cards. If you’re a crafter then some homemade Christmas cards or gift tags are also a nice touch.

11 Skincare Lessons For Indian Women To Take From 2025 Into The New Year

As Indian women, we navigate busy lifestyles with ease, but our skin takes a beating given the stress, pollution, and diverse climates we live through. Nourish your skin and give yourself a healthy glow with these tips that will elevate your skincare routine.

Skinimalism Please
Ditching complicated routines for simple, multi-functional products that nourish without overwhelming your skin is the way to go. This helps reduce risk of skin irritation and breakouts. On the plus side, it saves time and is perfect for busy lifestyles. Simply start with a gentle cleanser, hydrating serum, and SPF; add products as needed.

Climate-Specific Care
Adapt your skincare products to India’s diverse climates – think lightweight gels for humidity, rich creams for dry zones. This ensures hydration matches environmental stressors.

Elevated Body Care
Extend your skincare routine to your entire body, not limiting it just to the face. This promotes overall glow and addresses neglected areas. Use a body scrub weekly and a hydrating lotion daily. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen on exposed skin!

Be Smart With SPF
Use sunscreens that offer protection against UV rays, blue light, and pollution, with added hydration benefits. This shields skin from premature ageing and damage in India’s tropical climate. Choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ with a lightweight texture; apply about 20 minutes before stepping out and reapply every 2-3 hours.

Barrier Repair
A strengthened skin barrier prevents moisture loss and sensitivity in harsh conditions, and protects against pollution and stress. Add a ceramide-rich night cream or squalane oil to your skincare routine.

Regenerate & Restore
Regenerative skincare products target deep ageing signs with cutting-edge science. Consult a dermatologist for professional treatments or serums. You can explore exosomes for collagen boost, inflammation reduction, and repair.

Biohack Beauty
Boost your skin health with science-backed ingredients like peptides, stem cells, and NAD+ boosters. These ingredients help target skin ageing, build resilience, and repair at a cellular level.

Microbiome-Friendly Products
Support your skin health with probiotics and prebiotics. These fermented ingredients balance your skin’s ecosystem, reducing inflammation and acne. Pick cleansers or creams with lactobacillus or bifida ferment.

Wellness-Driven Skincare
Holistic health reflects externally, so eat antioxidant-rich foods, hydrate well, practise yoga/meditation. Use neurocosmetics to your advantage – focus on stress-reducing ingredients that link emotional wellbeing to skin health. This can help manage stress-induced issues like acne or dullness.

Personalisation With AI
Leverage AI-driven skin analysis for customised skincare routines addressing your unique skin concerns. Tailored solutions for your skin type and issues boost effectiveness. Try apps like SkinMatch or consult a dermatologist who uses AI tools for a personalised plan.

Sustainable Beauty
Opt for eco-friendly packaging, and natural ingredients that are cruelty-free. Not only does this support the planet, but it often means gentler, skin-friendly formulas. Look for brands with green certifications, refill options, and minimal packaging.

Holiday skincare routines celebrities swear by

Holiday skincare routines celebrities swear by

The holiday season often brings overlapping work commitments, social events, and personal responsibilities, leaving little time for rest. For many, the combination of long hours, travel, and festive activities can take a toll on the skin, leading to fatigue, puffiness, and dullness.

Experts recommend incorporating targeted skincare treatments, hydration, and proper sleep routines to maintain a refreshed appearance during the busiest time of the year.

Many local celebrities are turning to Belo Medical Group to keep their skin camera-ready amid the season’s demands.

One of Belo’s lounges blends art and soft lighting to create a relaxing setting

Among the most sought-after procedures is NeuroBright Eyes, a 20-minute treatment designed to reduce under-eye puffiness and fatigue. The procedure, part of Belo’s Neurocosmetics line, uses lactobiome to balance the skin, hyaluronic acid for hydration and firming, and tranexamic acid for brightening. The treatment works by modulating the “brain–skin axis,” calming nerve-driven stress that can trigger puffiness, dark circles, or dullness.

Pia Wurtzbach-Jauncey recently sampled NeuroBright Eyes, while actor KD Estrada and actress Alexa Ilacad rely on it to maintain a rested look amid demanding schedules of tapings, concerts, and performances.

Another popular option is the NeuroGlow Facial, which targets uneven texture, congestion, and dullness by regulating overstimulated neuro-receptors. BINI member Aiah, who recently completed 12 Biniverse concert stops across Asia and North America, uses NeuroGlow to keep her skin vibrant.

Content creator CK de Leon reported noticeable improvements in texture and brightness after two sessions. Actress Kaila Estrada and content creator Charlie Flemming also use the treatment to maintain healthy skin despite busy routines.

For facial contouring, Liftera employs thermal diffusion technology to lift, contour, and define facial angles without downtime. The ultrasound-based treatment triggers collagen remodeling at multiple depths, refining the jawline, softening early signs of laxity, and gradually enhancing structure and definition.

Belo Medical Group reception area offers a calm, nature-inspired space where clients prepare for treatments

Lifestyle and fashion personalities Jaz Reyes, Raymond Gutierrez, Georgina Wilson, and Liz Uy rely on Liftera to maintain sharp, polished features while managing demanding professional and personal schedules.

Belo’s Vertical Axis Lift combines multiple machine-based procedures to enhance lift, contour, and skin suppleness along the natural direction of aging.

Dr. Vicki Belo emphasized that no single machine can achieve all desired results, making combination procedures more effective. Piolo Pascual uses the treatment annually to maintain firm and sculpted angles, while Anne Curtis opts for it to achieve a natural, non-invasive lift.

Dr. Belo noted that 2025 emphasizes combining procedures to deliver optimal results. Non-invasive treatments remain central to Belo’s approach, offering effective outcomes with minimal discomfort or downtime, catering to clients with busy December calendars.

Rakul Preet Singh Swears By Desi Skincare Remedies; Jackky Bhagnani’s ‘Reason To Glow’ Is His Wife

In a time when wellness is more than just a buzzword, B-Town couple Rakul Preet Singh and Jackky Bhagnani are redefining what it means to live well in today’s fast-paced world.

One of Bollywood’s most-loved jodis, the actor-entrepreneurs recently caught up with The Free Press Journal (FPJ) for a candid chat about their skincare routine, Sunday wellness ritual and why they believe India is at a turning point in holistic health.

Rakul’s wellness philosophy

The actress, who is known for her discipline and fitness, is very passionate about wellness as well. “Your body is one of the most beautiful creations of God. It’s capable of healing itself when guided in the right direction,” says Rakul. “Regenerative or integrative medicine is the future; it’s much better than instantly jumping onto medication. I have tried it on myself, and I am a firm believer in it.”

Her belief in science-backed healing, rather than quick fixes, forms the foundation of much of her wellness routine.

Her 3-step skincare routine

Rakul is wonderfully methodical about her skincare, and she doesn’t hesitate to break down her routine, step-by-step. “I do follow a 3-step routine. My mornings are very basic — a wash, moisturiser and sunscreen,” she shares.

Her nighttime routine, however, is non-negotiable. “Firstly, I make sure that I remove my makeup properly. That’s something I’ll never skip, no matter how late it is.

“I remove my makeup (separately) for the eyes and face, wash it off, and follow it with moisturiser under my eyes and on the face. It’s a cleansing, toning and moisturising routine.”

Inside Rakul’s desi rituals

The De De Pyaar De actress also swears by D-I-Y home rituals. “I use a banana mask, besan or rose water and tomato. Sometimes I even put ghee on my face and he (Jackky) is like, ‘Ghee, what is this?’

“Well, that (ghee) actually helps a lot. More than the products, I try and go as natural as I can,” she explains, adding, “It works better than expensive chemical-heavy products.”

Even on hectic shoot days, her philosophy remains the same: simple, clean, and stay consistent.

Jackky’s ‘I do nothing’

When the focus shifts to Jackky, the couple instantly breaks into laughter. Rakul dramatically points out that she has a step-by-step routine and he does nothing. “No makeup, no moisturiser, nothing… I beg him to use moisturiser,” she exclaims as Jackky laughs.

“Honestly, I don’t do anything,” he reveals. “I get trolled, as people say I’m wearing lipstick. But no, it’s natural.”

“I need lipstick to match his colour,” says Rakul. “Zero skincare expense on this man — not even lip balm.”

“My reason to glow is her,” Jackky adds. While the actor relies on genetics and good energy, Rakul carries the skincare discipline for the both of them — and lovingly pokes fun at it too.

Their Sunday repair days

The couple don’t indulge in long sheet-mask routines, but they do take their weekly rejuvenation seriously.

“Every Sunday, we spend a couple of hours rebooting our system,” Rakul admits candidly. “We’ve tried hydrogen therapy, ozone therapy, fire cupping, and contrast therapy during our weekend rituals.”

Secret to their glowing skin

Jackky credits their lifestyle for their healthy skin. “We eat very clean food, right? So, that’s one big advantage for both of us. We sleep for at least seven to eight hours daily. That’s one very, very big thing. She keeps me very happy and vice versa.”

Rakul further elaborates, “Your skin is always going to reflect your state of being. It’s not like none of us are stressed. We all have stress, but you have to cut the noise at some point. Your skin is a reflection of how you’re feeling within — emotionally, physically, mentally, and nutritionally. What you sow is what you reap.”

Turning entrepreneurs with Nuvana Wellness Clinic

Rakul and Jackky recently came on board as strategic investors at Nuvana Wellness Clinic, a cutting-edge, science-backed regenerative health centre.

“It’s a wellness place which is completely backed by science, and if it’s backed with science, then you know that you’re in safe hands,” says Jackky.

Rakul adds, “Dr Rohan’s passion matches ours. India often looks at wellness as a quick beauty fix, but it’s not true. It needs medically backed research, and this brand stood out because of that balance — modern science fused with ancient practices.

How longevity is growing across beauty and wellness

How longevity is growing across beauty and wellness

Longevity is quickly becoming a priority for consumers as they seek to lengthen and enrich their lives. Spate’s new Comprehensive Guide To Longevity Across Beauty & Wellness report evaluates the growing rise of longevity as consumers become more conscious about staying young and healthy for longer.

Spate’s Popularity Index combines data from digital platforms — currently including Google, TikTok, and Instagram — to show how popular a category or trend is.

Consumers’ approach to beauty and wellness is being transformed by their familiarity with the science of ageing and health.

This allows brands to ground emerging consumer concepts in real trends, provide trustworthy education, and help teams make informed decisions that drive sustainable, long-term growth.

Let’s dive into the report’s key findings.

Shifts in beauty

Spate has identified macro shifts in longevity across beauty: regeneration and protection, medical spa at home, and “skinification”.

Regeneration and protection

Consumers no longer want a fast fix; they’re in for the long run. Therefore, consumers are looking for strategies to rejuvenate and protect their skin over time.

Skincare has evolved into a proactive approach — not merely a reaction to present difficulties, but a long-term strategy to maintain healthy, youthful skin for as long as possible, beginning at the cellular level.

This is seen in the growth of regenerative, ingredient-driven treatments like PDRN serums and retinol body lotions, as well as the use of equipment developed in medical settings, such as silicone scar sheets repurposed for wrinkle prevention.

It also encompasses an expanding range of therapies, including facial lymphatic drainage, hand rejuvenation, and exosome therapy.

Medical spa at home

Consumers nowadays know a thing or two about skincare. As such, they’re increasingly bringing the medical spa experience into their homes.

They’re incorporating treatments that were once reserved for professionals into regular at-home routines — either to complement in-clinic services or, in some cases, to replace them.

The phrase “Botox in a bottle” — defined by Perdita Nouril in Women’s Health as “skincare products claiming to smooth fine lines and plump skin — sometimes compared to the results of anti-wrinkle injections” — captures this shift well, says Spate.

Trends like skin boosters, once exclusive to clinics, are crossing over into at-home skincare, while practices such as face taping promise wrinkle prevention and a more lifted appearance.

It may have begun with facial skincare, but it’s certainly not stopping there; gaining momentum in haircare, especially in scalp-focused innovation.

Spate found that devices such as high-frequency combs and red-light therapy hats are being incorporated into routines to stimulate the scalp and support overall hair health.

Skinification across beauty

“Skinification” — the practice of using skincare-grade formulas across beauty categories — is still gaining traction.

According to Spate, this movement has fueled the broader longevity mindset, integrating skincare principles into nearly every step of the consumer routine.

As a result, skincare formats, textures, and actives are now permeating the entire beauty landscape.

In makeup, it’s found in the sustained rise of skincare-infused products, such as serum foundations, which signal a desire to care for the skin even while wearing makeup.

Blurring the line between categories, this shift is creating new opportunities for makeup brands to prioritise skincare-level efficacy in their formulations.

In haircare, the focus is largely on the scalp, which has become the foundation of hair care and overall hair health for many consumers.

Meanwhile, body care is increasingly borrowing from facial skincare, with potent actives and advanced formulas expanding beyond the face and into full-body routines.

Shifts in wellness

Spate summarised the move in wellness in three macro shifts: whole-body support system, metabolic and hormonal balance, and cellular beauty and skin longevity.

Whole-body support system

Move over lifespan, here comes healthspan. Cambridge Dictionary defines healthspan as “the number of years that someone lives or can expect to live in reasonably good health”. It has become a central theme in the longevity conversation.

As consumers don’t just want to live longer, they want to live longer in good health.

According to Spate, they are increasingly turning to supplements that support multiple dimensions of long-term well-being: products aimed at protecting physical health (magnesium, creatine, collagen); enhancing cognitive function (nootropics, L-tyrosine); and strengthening immunity ( beta-glucan, omega-3, CoQ10).

Metabolic and hormonal balance

Everyone wants a balanced approach, which is why internal balance is emerging as a cornerstone of longevity. It’s anchored in three key pillars: hormonal harmony, quality sleep, and a healthy metabolism.

Reflected in the rising interest in supplements such as cortisol regulators and ashwagandha, both of which are associated with supporting hormonal balance.

Consumers are also gravitating toward ingredients that promote metabolic health and better sleep — two additional drivers of internal equilibrium and overall well-being.

Magnesium glycinate, L-theanine, and metabolism boosters illustrate how consumers are proactively managing these internal systems.

Inflammation has also become a major target. The growing popularity of turmeric tea and omega-3 supplements demonstrates how consumers are addressing inflammation as part of their broader longevity strategy.

Cellular beauty and skin longevity

Beauty is on the inside, literally. Consumers are approaching beauty longevity from within. For many of them, skincare and wellness are one.

As Vogue Business explains, consumers are “opting for a holistic approach, which focuses on the inside as much as the outside.”

Beauty-from-within is not a novel concept, but today’s consumers have a more sophisticated understanding of skin science.

They are proactively seeking supplements that support skin health at the cellular level — whether to enhance regeneration (e.g., NAD supplements) or to reduce inflammation and combat ageing through antioxidants (e.g., resveratrol supplements).

Do Kids Really Need Skincare? Experts Warn Against Trend-Driven Routines

Do Kids Really Need Skincare? Experts Warn Against Trend-Driven Routines

Elsa Angel Rose

While TikTok and Instagram trends popularise child skincare for its aesthetics, the real purpose of skincare is being overshadowed. Kids, teens and pre-teens feel the urge to do a GRWM or DIY makeup as frequently as daily. It makes us wonder, do kids and pre-adolescents really need to get into skincare when their skin is not even fully developed? Even if the child insists on having a 3-step or even a 5-step elaborate skincare routine, should parents cave into this? Anyway, kids are not fully wrong to wish for good skincare. “A basic skincare routine is beneficial for a child’s development, focusing on moisturising, sun protection & cleansing using kid-friendly, fragrance-free products,” said Dr Nathaniel John Pinto, a Paediatrician at Manipal Hospital. This helps in protecting the delicate skin barrier of children, preventing sunburn & dryness.

Stating the obvious, a child’s skin is totally different from a fully developed adult’s skin. Children have still-developing and immature skin, which is structurally thinner than adult skin. Their skin tends to absorb tropical ingredients more readily, which can be both beneficial and harmful. Dr Bindu said, “The outermost barrier (stratum corneum) contains fewer natural lipids, making it more permeable and prone to moisture loss, irritation, and allergen penetration. Sebum production is minimal until puberty, which means children lack the natural protective oils, unlike adults skin, which help defend itself against environmental stressors like pollution, friction, and microbes. As a result, children’s skin absorbs topical ingredients more readily, which is both beneficial and harmful.” Hence, the formulation choice a child uses on himself or herself is particularly important

When one is pervasively unaware of the pros and cons of something, one tends to believe the majority’s perception. Hence, especially for parents in this scenario, it is important to be well educated and mindful. The ubiquitous influencer culture, widespread marketing tactics of brands to target children, and easy availability and access to any sort of skincare products do not help create a positive connotation for child skincare. When adult skincare brands keep their products at a kid’s eye level on a supermarket shelf, when there are no age barriers for the ‘Unboxing videos’ of adult skincare products, naturally, people think how harmful the products meant to be used on adults might be on a child’s skin. This is where knowing the difference between adult and child skincare can go a long way. Because “Basic care, including gentle cleansing, moisturising, and sunscreen, is necessary to support the developing skin barrier and prevent issues like eczema, sun damage, and sensitivity,” quoting Dr Bindu. Always remember that skincare has to be minimal, age appropriate and function-focused. If it is driven by market trends, peer pressure, or aesthetic priorities to ‘look cool’ or similar, then it is not skin care or self-care. Then one is harming oneself in the most ‘uncool’ way possible, and it is the parents’ responsibility to guide children not to do that.

“Parents should keep their child away from any harsh soaps, excessive bathing, and high sun exposure for long-term skin protection; these things will cause the balance of the child’s skin to be disrupted. Parents are encouraged to use children’s broad-spectrum sunscreen, keep the child hydrated, and provide a soft, breathable fabric against their child’s skin to keep it protected,” said Dr Simantini R Sakhardande, a consultant dermatologist and cosmetologist at Manipal Hospital. She further informed, “Having a simple and consistent regimen early on will decrease the chances of developing eczema f lare-ups, rashes, or any other issues and create a foundation for long-term skin health and resilience. Mild, unscented cleansing and moisturising routines that allow for the proper function of the natural barrier of a child’s skin will help to keep their skin moisturised and irritant-free dermatologically.”

So if a basic skincare does no harm, what kind of skincare becomes harmful for them? “Introducing ‘adult-style skincare’ with actives such as acids, retinoids, or brightening agents is unnecessary and potentially harmful, as it can disrupt the skin barrier and trigger long-term sensitivity,” explained Dr Bindu Sthalekar, a celebrity dermatologist and Founder of Skin Smart Solutions. Regular use of such skincare can also cause “The risk of developing skin irritation and dryness, allergic reactions & eczema arising from strong fragrances & preservatives,” said Dr Nathaniel. When asked about whether frequent exposure to various chemicals affects a child’s developing body in any way, he replied, “Some chemicals called endocrine-disrupting chemicals can interfere with the body’s natural hormones & can affect a child’s growth and development, play a role in affecting the child’s reproductive health and future fertility. Additionally, due to a child’s thinner skin barrier, chemicals can be absorbed into the bloodstream more easily, thus increasing the chances of systemic side effects.
