Rising Costs of ‘Natural Beauty’ Routines Prompt Shift Toward Long-Term Treatment Solutions

Subject: SVY

GREAT NECK, N.Y., April 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — As the natural beauty trend continues to gain momentum, a growing number of consumers are reassessing the true cost of maintaining minimalist skincare and grooming routines. Laser by Aleya reports that clients are increasingly questioning whether “low-effort” beauty approaches are actually leading to higher long-term spend.

While natural beauty routines often emphasize fewer products and simplified regimens, many clients still rely on ongoing maintenance such as shaving, waxing, and frequent product replacement. Over time, these recurring costs can add up, prompting a shift toward more structured, long-term solutions.

“We’re seeing clients take a closer look at what they’re spending over time,” said Aleya Bamdad, Founder and CEO of Laser by Aleya. “What seems simple on the surface can become time-consuming and costly when it requires constant upkeep.”

The Hidden Cost of Ongoing Maintenance

Laser by Aleya notes that clients who follow natural beauty routines often aim to reduce product use, but still depend on regular grooming practices to maintain results. This includes recurring expenses related to razors, waxing appointments, and skincare products designed to manage irritation or ingrown hairs.

As awareness grows, more clients are exploring alternatives that can reduce the need for continuous maintenance.

A Shift Toward Long-Term Solutions

The clinic reports increased interest in treatments such as laser hair removal and electrolysis, particularly among clients looking to streamline their routines. These treatments are being viewed as part of a broader effort to reduce repetitive grooming while maintaining consistent results.

Consultations at Laser by Aleya focus on helping clients understand the long-term value of different options, rather than only short-term costs.

Balancing Simplicity and Efficiency

The natural beauty movement continues to influence how clients approach skincare and grooming. However, Laser by Aleya notes that simplicity does not always mean lower cost or less effort.

Clients are increasingly seeking solutions that align both with their lifestyle and their long-term goals, combining simplified routines with treatments that address concerns more directly.

“Natural beauty should feel manageable, not demanding,” Bamdad added. “For many clients, that means finding solutions that reduce daily effort rather than adding to it.”

A More Informed Approach to Beauty Spending

The conversation around natural beauty is evolving as consumers become more aware of how time, cost, and results intersect. Laser by Aleya’s experience reflects a broader shift toward more informed decision-making, where clients evaluate both immediate convenience and long-term outcomes.

As this trend continues, the focus is expected to remain on efficiency, consistency, and clarity in how beauty routines are structured.

natural remedies for seasonal allergies

Powerful Natural Remedies for Seasonal Allergies

Oh, seasonal allergies. They truly can make life miserable. The good news is, there are things we can do! Many unnecessarily suffer from seasonal allergies when a few simple natural remedies can offer allergy relief, even without medicine.

According to the CDC, over 30% of the population deals with some kind of allergy. And over 25% have seasonal allergies specifically. Common triggers include pollen from grass and trees, dust mite fecal particles, animal dander, certain foods, air pollution, personal care products, or even insect bites.

These triggers can lead to allergic reactions with a variety of symptoms, including a runny nose, itchy eyes, and watery eyes.

As prime allergy season is here (at least in our area), I’m sharing the natural remedies I’ve used and that work for my family when needed. These aren’t as fast or immediately effective as medication, but over the long term, these methods have lessened my seasonal allergies greatly. Some people even see permanent reversal.

What Causes Seasonal Allergies?

Diet, strong gut health, and overall health can make a big difference when it comes to seasonal allergies. That’s because an allergic response has everything to do with the immune system.

I like to describe the body as a bathtub. Every time anything enters our bodies — be it from food, water, air, etc. — our body reacts. This is a good thing and nature’s way of keeping the body in a state of balance (homeostasis).

At a certain point, if too much goes into the bathtub, it’s going to overflow. Overloaded and overstimulated, the immune system responds to normally harmless substances as if they’re a foreign invader.

How Allergy Symptoms Start

Clemens von Pirquet first coined the word “allergen” and helped pioneer the field of immunology in 1906. Since then, scientists have learned a lot about allergies.

“It may sound ridiculous at first that antibodies (which should protect against disease) are also responsible for disease. ” Pirquet

Allergic disorders are basically an overreaction by the body’s immune system. They happen when the body treats a harmless substance like a threat and responds by making more IgE antibodies. These IgE molecules then stick to mast cells. At the same time, T helper cells (specifically Type 1, called Th1) become involved, triggering the allergic response.

The immune system mistakenly goes into attack mode against things that aren’t really dangerous. The reactions can include a tight feeling in the bronchial tubes, more mucus, and more vascular permeability. Sometimes within minutes.

If the exposure is strong enough to get past the body’s first line of defense, the reaction then triggers more leukocytes and Type 2 T helper cells (Th2). This creates a stronger immune response that the body normally uses to fight off things like parasites and other physical invaders.

The reaction manifests in different ways depending on the person’s genetics and where the body perceives the invasion. Symptoms may include:

  • fatigue (sometimes extreme)
  • hay fever (runny nose, itchy eyes, congestion)
  • nasal drip
  • digestive upset and nausea
  • eczema
  • asthma
  • even anaphylaxis

When Allergies Become Chronic

And the more the person is exposed to the trigger, the more the body will chronically have the inflammatory response. A 2008 journal article explains how the system’s inflammatory response and the misery allergy sufferers feel is very real and more than a case of the sniffles!

Allergy testing can help show what’s triggering the issue, but conventional treatments are almost always the same, no matter the cause. This includes taking an antihistamine or corticosteroid, which can have unwanted side effects.

If you want to tackle allergies naturally, there are two main approaches:

  1. Limit exposure to possible allergens (like putting less in the bathtub)
  2. Support a strong, healthy immune system (like increasing the size of our bathtub)

This isn’t an either/or problem, but a both/and solution.

Natural Remedies For Seasonal Allergies

My kids and I don’t really have seasonal allergies anymore after doing the GAPS diet to strengthen our gut and immune system health. However,  I still occasionally get hit with an allergy attack from dust after cleaning (a reason not to clean? I think yes!).

We’ve found these simple natural remedies to be very effective for allergy relief. Different people seem to benefit from different remedies depending on certain genetic factors and which allergens they react to. It might be worth trying more than one of these natural remedies for allergies to see which works best for you.

Simple tips like using an air purifier with a HEPA filter reduce indoor allergens, like dust mites and pollen. Essential oils can also offer support during peak allergy season. A popular diffuser blend is lavender (antihistamine), peppermint (opens nasal passages), and lemon (thins mucus). Even these anti-inflammatory golden milk mango popsicles are a yummy way to lessen allergies!

Here are some other ways to tackle your allergies for good!

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is an age-old remedy that’s often used for a variety of health issues. I’ve used it for allergy relief (and heartburn relief) with great success. The theory is that it can help reduce mucus and cleanse the lymphatic system, both of which are helpful for allergies.

There’s also some research to suggest ACV can help reduce inflammatory responses and support the immune system. While there isn’t a ton of research behind this remedy, many feel it’s worth a try.

What I did: When allergies hit, I mixed a teaspoon of organic, raw, and unfiltered apple cider vinegar into a glass of water. I drank this three times a day. This kind of vinegar has “the mother” in it, a colony of beneficial bacteria. Check the label, it should list if it has it.

I use this brand, but it’s easy enough to make your own. Apple cider vinegar helped me relieve acute allergy symptoms and seemed to help avoid allergy attacks as well when I do it daily. If you suffer from allergies at a certain time of year, you may want to start taking ACV well before.

2. Wash Your Nostrils

This remedy works by hindering the offending allergen from entering your airways and reducing nasal congestion.

Neti Pot

It took me a while to try the Neti Pot simply because I’m a big scaredy cat about pouring things in my nose. I’m glad I took the leap though because it’s not half as bad as it sounds! The basic theory is that you use a Neti Pot filled with a sterile saline solution to flush allergens out of the sinuses. It also helps prevent pathogens from invading during cold and flu season.

I was surprised to find that both conventional and holistic practitioners recommend nasal rinses. Be sure to use boiled and cooled or distilled water, not water from the tap (because parasites….ewww).

To use: Either use a pre-made saline rinse or make your own. Once at body temp, fill the Neti Pot, pour through one nostril, and let it drain out the other. Get full instructions here.

Saline Spray

An option for Neti Pot sissies like me. I like this natural saline spray with xylitol for extra help with soothing inflammation and opening airways. One of my kids with large tonsils uses it to help keep post-nasal drip and sore throats away. Regularly using a nasal spray can help reduce irritation from allergens.

To use: Spray saline into the nostrils a few times a week or even daily for routine maintenance.

3. Quercetin

Quercetin is a natural bioflavonoid that helps stabilize mast cells to keep them from releasing histamine. It’s also a potent anti-inflammatory that can help reduce overall allergy symptoms. It’s best used as a long-term remedy and many people start taking it about 4-6 weeks before allergy season.

To use: Although quercetin is naturally found in foods like citrus and broccoli, it’s very difficult to get enough to relieve allergies from food alone. Quercetin supplements can help prevent allergies and help with acute symptoms.

4. Nettle Leaf

Stinging nettle leaf is another natural antihistamine that can be very effective. It works by naturally blocking the body’s ability to make histamine. You can use nettle tea, tincture, or capsules for allergy relief. It’s available online, but grows wild in many places.

You can also combine nettle with other herbs to make a soothing herbal tea. Peppermint, raspberry leaf, and nettle make a refreshing allergy relief tea. Lavender is another powerful antihistamine that pairs well with nettle in tea.

What I do: I often include nettle in homemade anti-inflammatory tea during allergy season and use capsules for acute relief.

5. Probiotics

Allergies are the result of an imbalance in the immune system that causes the body to react too strongly. Research shows that when the gut has a good balance of healthy bacteria, people notice fewer allergies. There’s even emerging evidence linking a pregnant mother’s gut bacteria to their child’s likelihood of getting allergies throughout life. Not getting enough exposure to dirt and some germs can also negatively impact the immune system.

While we can’t do much about our mothers’ diets while they were pregnant, there’s still hope. Balancing gut bacteria now and getting enough beneficial bacteria can have a positive effect on allergies.

What I do: We eat a varied diet that includes plenty of fermented foods and drinks, which can help boost gut bacteria. We also take a quality probiotic.

6. Local Honey

Eating raw honey that’s produced near your home may help your body adapt to local allergens, like pollen. Some compare it to a natural version of allergy shots, but without the side effects. There isn’t much scientific evidence to back this one, but there seems to be a lot of anecdotal evidence from people who have tried it.

Research shows raw honey has anti-inflammatory effects and can suppress inflammatory IgE levels and modulate mast cell response. A 2013 study also found honey had anti-histamine effects in those with allergic rhinitis.

What I do: Eat a teaspoon (or more) of raw, locally produced honey once or more a day. Some suggest starting this a month or so before allergy season.

7. Anti-Inflammatory Foods

Anti-inflammatory foods, teas, and spices may help reduce unpleasant allergy symptoms. A 2016 animal study found that ginger reduced sneezing and congestion as well as lowered mast cell response. Researchers have also looked at green tea for calming allergies and inflammation with good results.

What I do: Serve plenty of herbs and spices with meals, as well as green and herbal teas. This ginger switchel drink combines raw honey, ACV, and anti-inflammatory ginger for a delicious probiotic drink. It’s a powerhouse of support for allergies.

8. Homeopathics and Herbal Remedies

I’ve already mentioned some different herbs to take, but there are several really good pre-made allergy blends now. Homeopathics and herbal supplements are different modalities, but both can work well for allergies. These can often work faster for acute symptom relief than long-term solutions, like diet changes.

Want something quick and easy in pill form? Genexa offers natural homeopathic remedies that work well for allergies without the OTC or prescription meds.

9. Addressing the Root Cause of Seasonal Allergies

Going back to the bathtub analogy: some of us are born with a smaller bathtub due to genetics and early environmental exposures. Things like mold exposure, Lyme disease, and past trauma can also cause our bathtubs to fill up fast. Identifying and addressing underlying health issues that are stressing the body and immune system helps bail out our tub.

This is where working with a qualified practitioner for personalised dietary advice and testing can be really helpful.

Diet Changes

Often, our gut health is the key to truly reversing allergy symptoms. This deeper healing can reduce chronic inflammation and support long-term immune balance. Elimination diets and bone broth are a good place to start. Those with histamine issues often find that meat stock is a better option than bone broth at first (which is high in histamines).

I’ve found that addressing gut health is key for severe allergies and gut healing/rebalancing.

What we did: We followed the GAPS diet for several months and had success improving our seasonal allergies. One of my kids even reversed some rather severe food allergies with this approach.

Gut Testing

If you truly suffer from allergies and suspect you have a compromised gut, consider testing. This helps give a clear picture of what’s going on in your body and how to fix it.

Yes, this literally means mailing poop to a lab (kids may find this one fun!), but I learned so much from this test. I still continue to benefit from knowing specific ways to improve my individual gut. Advances in at-home testing mean you don’t need to go to a doctor or a lab.

What I use: Viome is the company I use and trust. See the results of my gut health test here.

Final Thoughts on Natural Remedies For Seasonal Allergies

Getting faster symptom relief while working on the root causes of seasonal allergies was key for our family. After implementing these changes, I hardly deal with allergies anymore!

Don’t feel like you need to try all of these natural remedies at once, but see what works best for you. Speaking from personal experience, they can work really well!

Invisalign and Botox: The Tweakments Redefining Natural Beauty

In the world of luxury wellness, a quiet shift is underway, and the pursuit of beauty is no longer about dramatic transformation; it is about subtle enhancement, holistic wellbeing, and treatments that work in harmony with the body. Enter the age of the tweakment: small, precise interventions that yield natural, rejuvenated results without the need for surgery or downtime that are becoming seen as essential in the routines of the world’s wealthy.

At the forefront of this movement is Dental Wellness, an Islington clinic that has become a destination for discerning Londoners seeking a more integrated approach to self‑care. Led by Dr Vishal Patel, a dentist with a Master’s in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry from the University of Manchester and advanced training from the Harley Academy, the clinic offers two of the most sought‑after tweakments: Invisalign and Botox. But here, they are not offered in isolation; rather, they are combined as part of a philosophy that treats the whole person, recognising that a confident smile and a relaxed expression go hand in hand with overall wellbeing.

The new language of aesthetics

For today’s luxury consumer, time is the ultimate currency. The appeal of tweakments lies in their precision and efficiency; a lunchtime appointment that leaves you looking refreshed, not “done”. Invisalign, with its nearly invisible aligners, has revolutionised orthodontics, offering a discreet way to straighten teeth without the disruption of traditional braces.

Botox, meanwhile, has evolved far beyond its early reputation. When administered by an expert, it softens fine lines, eases tension, and can even relieve chronic jaw clenching; a common side effect of modern‑day stress.

Dr Patel sees these treatments as complementary. “Your smile and your expression are intimately connected,” he explains. “If you’re grinding your teeth from stress, it affects your jaw muscles, your facial posture, and even your skin. By addressing both alignment and muscle tension, we can achieve results that are not only beautiful but also therapeutic.”

A holistic approach to tweakments

What sets Dental Wellness London apart is its commitment to natural, patient‑centred care. Invisalign is used not just to straighten teeth but to improve bite function and long‑term oral health, while botox is placed with precision to relax overactive muscles – whether for crow’s feet, forehead lines, or masseter tension – while preserving natural expression.

“The goal is never to change someone,” Dr Patel says. “It’s to help them look like themselves, but rested. The version of them that isn’t carrying the weight of stress in their face.”

This philosophy extends to the clinic’s broader wellness offering. Patients considering Invisalign might also receive nutritional advice to support gum health, and those seeking botox may find themselves in conversation about mindfulness techniques to address the root causes of tension. It is a model that appeals to those who view beauty not as a standalone goal, but as part of a larger commitment to wellbeing – which is becoming an increasingly popular take amongst affluent individuals across the globe.

Why London’s discerning are choosing integrative care

The rise of the tweakment has coincided with a growing demand for convenience and quality. Busy professionals no longer want to visit five different specialists for five different concerns; they want a trusted space where their needs are understood holistically – and where the results look effortlessly natural.

Dental Wellness London offers exactly that. Located on Essex Road in Islington, the clinic’s serene environment and attentive team create an experience that feels less like a medical appointment and more like a retreat. It is the kind of place where a patient can have their Invisalign aligners checked, receive a botox touch-up, and leave with a personalised wellness plan – all in one visit.

“We’re seeing a shift in how people think about their health,” Dr Patel reflects. “They want to invest in themselves in a way that feels sustainable and aligned with their lifestyle. Tweakments, when done well, are part of that. They’re not about chasing perfection; they’re about feeling confident, comfortable, and truly yourself.”

The future of beauty

As the boundaries between dentistry, aesthetics, and wellness continue to blur, clinics like Dental Wellness London are leading the way. And for those seeking a modern approach to beauty –  one that values subtlety, science, and the wisdom of treating the whole person – the tweakment has arrived.

Invisalign and Botox can work together to optimise your wellbeing – and at Dental Wellness London in Islington, the new face of integrative care is ready and waiting to elevate yours.

spring cleaning checklist

My Natural Spring Cleaning Checklist (Room by Room)

I’ve written many times about how I clean my house with natural cleaners. Now to check off something that’s been on my list for a while: a complete cleaning checklist for the whole house!

Sometimes it’s hard to get the motivation (or time) to take on deep cleaning. However, the one time of year most of us feel like tackling it is when spring finally arrives and the weather warms up.

Spring cleaning doesn’t have to mean complicated systems or cabinets full of cleaning supplies. In fact, the simpler the process, the more likely I am to actually do it (or convince the kids to help!). I like to open the windows for fresh air, turn on the air filter, and tackle one room at a time. Nothing beats the satisfaction of checking items off a list as you go.

Below is the room-by-room checklist I use for deep cleaning the house each spring. You’ll also find the printable version at the bottom.

Cleaning Supplies to Have on Hand

Before getting started, it helps to gather a few simple cleaning supplies so everything is within reach. Most of these are items you may already have around the house.

A Note on Microfiber

I have some old microfiber cloths that I bought when I first started with natural cleaning that I still use. However, if you’re buying supplies, I recommend opting for cotton cloths or re-using old natural fiber clothing as rags. Microfiber is basically plastic and contributes to our plastic pollution problem every time they’re washed.

I’m using mine up since I already have them, but I won’t be buying more. You can read more about microfiber and my thoughts and solutions to the problem here. So whenever you see cleaning cloths or microfiber mentioned below, just keep this in mind.

Basic cleaning supplies:

  • Microfiber cloths, cotton cloths, or old T-shirt rags
  • Spray bottles of cleaners
  • Mop
  • Small bucket for soapy water
  • Vacuum with attachments

Helpful natural cleaning products:

You don’t need every single cleaner on this list, just pick and choose what works best for you. Basics like baking soda, vinegar, and natural dish soap can tackle most messes!

My Minimalist Natural Cleaning Closet

Confession time: If you ever wonder how I do it all… well, I don’t. Like most busy families, it’s all about priorities and simplifying where possible.

I used to make all my cleaners from scratch, but life with older kids, a business, and a podcast eventually changed that. These days there are so many excellent natural options available that I prefer using a few high-quality products that work for multiple purposes.

Here’s a quick roundup of my current natural cleaning favorites:

With just a handful of supplies, it’s possible to clean almost everything in the house without the harsh chemicals found in many conventional cleaners.

Whole-House Tasks (Start Here)

there are a few cleaning tasks that apply throughout the entire house. Start by opening windows for ventilation and turning on an air filter if you have one. Fresh air makes the whole process feel easier and helps clear out lingering dust and indoor pollutants.

Before diving into deep cleaning, start with a quick tidy-up. Pick up items from the floor, return things to their proper places, and keep a bin nearby for items you want to donate or get rid of. Spring cleaning is the perfect time to declutter as you go.

And if you have kids at home, enlist them! My kids have their own room checklists, and they love the satisfaction of crossing something off the list. Next, work from the top down in each room. This keeps dust from falling onto areas you’ve already cleaned.

Whole-house cleaning checklist:

  • Dust from the highest points (door frames, window frames, shelves, etc.)
  • Vacuum or dust away cobwebs
  • Clean light fixtures and ceiling fans
  • Wipe down walls, switch plates, and door frames
  • Clean doors and door handles (hydrogen peroxide works well if anyone has been sick)
  • Clean baseboards
  • Vacuum or sweep all floors
  • Mop hard floors
  • Move furniture (coffee tables, chairs, etc.) and clean underneath
  • Clean windows inside and outside
  • Wipe window frames and sills
  • Wash blinds, drapes, and window screens
  • Clean rugs and decorative pillows
  • Vacuum couches and under cushions
  • Wax and polish wooden surfaces

After dusting or vacuuming walls, wipe them down with a damp cloth to remove grime, grease, and marks. Kitchens especially tend to collect grease buildup on walls over time. If you have tile in the kitchen or bathroom, spring is also a good time to clean and reseal grout lines, which helps prevent water damage and staining.

Living Room and Living Areas

Living spaces tend to collect the most daily clutter, so I like to start here. Begin by picking up everything on the floors and moving it to the appropriate rooms. Then work from top to bottom, dusting furniture, shelves, and fixtures.

Living room cleaning checklist:

  • Open windows or run an air filter for ventilation
  • Dust furniture with a damp rag or cloth
  • Dust lighting fixtures and fan blades
  • Spot clean furniture with baking soda and water or natural all-purpose cleaner
  • Clean lamps with cloths. Hydrogen peroxide spray is great for cleaning white lampshades
  • Wipe down electronics and screens with a screen safe cleaner
  • Wash windows and windowsills
  • Wash or wipe down blinds. I like taking them down and washing them in the bathtub with vinegar and water.
  • Wipe down walls and switch plates
  • Wash throw blankets and pillows
  • Vacuum couches and chairs
  • Remove couch cushions and vacuum crumbs
  • Condition leather furniture if needed
  • Sweep, vacuum, or mop floors

If your living room has area rugs or carpet, spring is also a great time to deep clean them. Use your vacuum attachments to reach corners and along baseboards.

Kitchen

The kitchen is often the most used room in the house, which means it benefits from a deep clean at least once a year. Start by clearing off countertops so you can thoroughly clean surfaces. This is also a great opportunity to declutter appliances and store ones you rarely use.

Kitchen cleaning checklist:

  • Open windows or run an air filter
  • Dust high surfaces, lights, and fans. Use warm, soapy water as needed to tackle kitchen grease.
  • Remove everything from countertops and wipe them down
  • Wipe down backsplash and walls to remove grease buildup
  • Clean the outside of cabinets (use a wood-safe cleaner if needed)
  • Wipe down appliances. Use a stainless steel cleaner as needed.
  • Clean the stove, stove vent, and replace vent filter
  • Deep clean the oven
  • Remove food from the fridge and freezer and wipe down inside
  • Wipe down the outside of the refrigerator
  • Pull out fridge and stove and clean underneath
  • Dust refrigerator coils and clean the grate at the front
  • Clean out the pantry and wipe shelves
  • Clean sink and fixtures
  • Deep clean dishwasher by running it empty with vinegar
  • Clean garbage disposal
  • Hose down the trash can and let it disinfect in the sun
  • Sweep and mop the floor
  • Clean tile grout if needed

If your kitchen has granite counters, use a granite-safe cleaner rather than vinegar, which can damage the stone over time. You can also find a more detailed kitchen cleaning checklist here.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms are another area where deep cleaning makes a big difference. Warm, damp environments can allow mold and mildew to develop if they aren’t cleaned regularly. Just like any other room, be sure to start at the highest surfaces first, like the walls and tops of the door and window frames.

Bathroom cleaning checklist:

  • Open windows or run an air filter
  • Dust high surfaces, lights, and fan
  • Take everything out of cabinets and wipe shelves. Get rid of anything you don’t use, old or expired
  • Clean mirrors and windows
  • Wipe down counters and sinks
  • Clean makeup brushes and replace old makeup
  • Scrub shower and tub
  • Remove soap scum and hard water buildup in the shower/bath and sink
  • Replace or wash the shower liner
  • Clean tile and grout, reseal if needed. Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide work well for stained grout.
  • Deep clean the bathroom fan
  • Clean around the outside of the toilet
  • Clean the inside of the toilet bowl
  • Mop the floor and wipe baseboards
  • Restock natural bath supplies

A shower filter can also help reduce mineral buildup, which makes the shower easier to clean over time. If the toilet seat still looks dingy despite cleaning, it might simply be time to replace it. Sometimes that’s the easiest fix!

Bedrooms

Bedrooms are usually simpler to clean but benefit from a seasonal refresh. Start by picking up anything on the floors and clearing surfaces so you can clean more easily. Here’s what I keep in my nightstand for a more relaxed nighttime routine and refreshed morning.

Bedroom cleaning checklist:

  • Open windows or run an air filter
  • Dust furniture, lights, and fans. Start from the top and work your way down so any falling dirt/dust can be cleaned up.
  • Wash sheets, blankets, and bedding
  • Wash throw pillows if needed
  • Hang pillows or mattress pads in the sun for a few hours to air out.
  • Wash pillows in the washer if they can be machine washed
  • Vacuum or mop floors
  • Clean under the bed
  • Wipe down walls and switch plates
  • Wipe down doors and handles
  • Clean lamps and lampshades
  • Wash windows, windowsills, and blinds
  • Clean out nightstands and drawers and toss expired items like old lip balm
  • Remove clothes from drawers, wipe down drawers, and return clothes. (This may not be the time to start KonMari folding, but I highly recommend checking it out!)
  • Refresh linen spray and drawer freshener sachets.

Spring is also a great time to declutter closets and refresh your wardrobe. I like to use this time to simplify clothing and rotate seasonal items. A capsule wardrobe can make getting dressed much easier and keeps closets from becoming overcrowded.

If it’s been several years, evaluate whether the mattress still provides good support. Sometimes a better night’s sleep is just a mattress upgrade away. Here’s one we love.

Laundry Room or Utility Room

The laundry room often becomes a catch-all space for cleaning supplies, storage bins, and random household items. A quick seasonal reset helps keep things organized. I also keep this printable reference sheet for how to naturally treat stains in my laundry room.

Laundry room cleaning checklist:

  • Open windows or run an air filter
  • Dust lights, shelves, and surfaces
  • Remove everything from cabinets and shelves. Declutter and organize what’s left.
  • Wipe down shelves and cabinets
  • Declutter old cleaning products or expired supplies
  • Wipe down washer and dryer
  • Deep clean the washing machine
  • Wash the dryer lint trap with dish soap to remove buildup
  • Clean the dryer vent
  • Wipe down walls and baseboards
  • Sweep and mop floors
  • Organize laundry products and restock as needed
  • Replace or refelt wool dryer balls if needed

This is also a good time to evaluate the space and see if better organization would help. Maybe it’s time to add coat hooks in the mudroom, a mat for muddy boots, or a shelf to store laundry supplies that are currently piled on the floor.

Make Spring Cleaning a Family Routine

Deep cleaning the entire house can feel overwhelming, but breaking it down room by room makes it much more manageable. And when you sign up for my VIP newsletter you’ll get my free Deep Cleaning Checklist as a thank you here. I’m also giving you my complete Home Organization Binder printables with blank room cleaning templates to customize.

I like to print out the checklist and slip it into a binder sleeve so it can be reused each year. Turn on a favorite playlist, open the windows, and enjoy the fresh air while you work. By the time you finish, the whole house feels lighter, cleaner, and ready for the new season. Happy spring cleaning!

Did I miss anything on the checklist? I’d love to hear what’s on yours.

Glass Skin with Natural Ingredients for Radiant, Clear Skin

Glass Skin with Natural Ingredients for Radiant, Clear Skin

Lifestyle

-Oneindia Staff

Updated: Monday, March 9, 2026, 8:45 [IST]

Glass skin is a look where skin seems clear, smooth, and well lit. It is linked with steady hydration and even texture. You can support this look with a simple routine and natural ingredients. The focus stays on gentle care, regular use, and avoiding harsh steps that can upset your skin barrier.

Glass skin is not a single product or quick fix. It usually means skin that looks calm and well hydrated. Pores look less clear when skin is dry or rough. When you keep skin clean and moisturised, light reflects better. This can give a soft shine that many call glass skin.

The glass skin look, characterized by clarity, smoothness, and hydration, is achieved through a consistent, gentle skincare routine. Key steps include daily cleansing, moisturizing, and sunscreen, with natural ingredients like aloe vera offering additional support.

Start with the basics before any home remedy. Cleanse in a gentle way, twice a day. Use a moisturiser that suits your skin type. Wear sunscreen in the morning, even on cloudy days. Sun damage can cause spots and dull skin. These steps support clear skin more than masks alone.

Do not scrub hard or wash too often. This can cause dryness and more oil. If you use makeup, remove it fully at night. Change pillow covers often, as oil and dirt can build up. These simple habits help keep pores clear. They also help natural ingredients work better.

Natural ingredients that support radiant, clear skin

Aloe vera gel is known for its soothing feel. Many people use it to calm mild redness and dryness. Apply a thin layer of fresh gel or a plain aloe gel. Use it after cleansing, then add moisturiser. Aloe can support hydration, which is key for the glass skin look.

Honey is a common home ingredient for skin. It helps hold moisture on the skin surface. Use a small amount as a short mask for about 10 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. Choose plain honey and avoid mixes with added scent. This can help skin feel softer and look more radiant.

Curd or plain yoghurt can act as a gentle, short contact mask. It contains lactic acid, which is used in skincare for mild exfoliation. Keep it on for a few minutes and rinse well. Do not use it on broken or very irritated skin. Overuse can cause dryness, so keep it occasional.

Oats are used for gentle cleansing and calming. You can make a paste with ground oats and water. Massage very lightly, then rinse. This helps remove surface dirt without rough grains. It suits many skin types, including sensitive skin. Smooth texture can support the clear, hydrated look linked with glass skin.

Rice water is widely used in home skincare routines. It is made by soaking or rinsing rice in clean water. People use it as a light rinse or toner. Pat it on after cleansing, then moisturise. Use fresh rice water and store it safely. If it smells odd, throw it away.

Turmeric is used in many Indian home remedies. It can stain skin and clothes, so use a very small pinch. Mix with curd or honey for a short mask. Rinse well and do not scrub. Some people get irritation from turmeric. Patch testing matters, even for natural ingredients.

Cucumber, rose water, and green tea can be used as simple cooling steps. Cucumber juice feels light on the skin. Rose water is often used as a mild toner. Cooled green tea can be dabbed on with cotton. These steps can support a fresh look, mainly by adding light hydration.

How to build an easy routine at home

For mornings, keep the routine short. Cleanse with a mild face wash. If you use rice water or rose water, apply it next. Use aloe vera gel or a light moisturiser. Finish with sunscreen. This order supports hydration and protection. It also helps keep dark spots and dullness under control.

At night, cleanse well to remove sunscreen and dirt. Use a soothing step like aloe if your skin feels dry. On one or two nights each week, use a simple mask. Choose oats, honey, or yoghurt, not all at once. Always moisturise after. Regular, gentle care supports clearer skin over time.

Safety and patch testing

Natural does not mean risk free. Patch test each ingredient on the jaw or inner arm. Wait for 24 hours to check for redness or itching. Avoid using lemon on face, as it can irritate and raise sun sensitivity. Stop any step that burns. If you have eczema or acne flares, seek medical advice.

Top 6 Korean Skincare Beauty Essentials For Spring Season With Natural Ingredients

Korean Skincare Beauty Essentials For Spring Season: As spring arrives in India, our skin asks for a lighter, gentler routine that keeps it calm, hydrated and glowing. Korean skincare, or K‑Beauty, is loved worldwide because it focuses on natural, soothing ingredients that work without harsh chemicals. Instead of heavy creams, spring calls for ingredients that balance oil, boost hydration, and strengthen the skin’s barrier, according to various skincare experts. Below, in this article, we will tell you about the key natural ingredients you’ll want to look for this season, and why they’re perfect for Indian skin types in Spring season:

6 Best Korean Skincare Beauty Essentials For Spring Season You Must Try

1. Centella Asiatica (Cica)

Centella, often called Cica, is one of the most celebrated Korean skincare ingredients because of its calming and healing properties. It’s great if your skin gets irritated or red due to pollution or warmth in spring. According to a June 2025 research, “Centella asiatica (CICA)-derived exosomes have emerged as bioactive agents for skin rejuvenation due to their regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties.” Cica helps soothe inflammation, supports skin repair and strengthens the moisture barrier, making it ideal for sensitive or reactive skin.

2. Rice Water

Rice water has long been a staple in Asian beauty traditions and is now widely used in Korean products. It’s rich in vitamins and antioxidants that help brighten dullness and smooth skin texture. An April 2018 research highlights, “Rice, a rich source of amino acids, peptides, organic acids, polyphenols, vitamins, and polysaccharides, has garnered growing attention owing to its diverse skincare benefits. Research has demonstrated its potential to enhance skin hydration, improve skin barrier function, mitigate oxidative stress, promote skin whitening, and address signs of aging.” For Indian climates during Spring, which can be humid and sun‑exposed, rice water also helps balance oil and improve overall radiance.

3. Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)

Niacinamide (vitamin B3) is a versatile, water-soluble nutrient crucial for cellular energy, skin health, and barrier function. It regulates excess oil, shrinks the look of pores, and evens out skin tone. It also supports the skin’s barrier and helps reduce redness or pigmentation that can show up with changing seasons. It’s suitable for almost every skin type, from oily to combination skin in spring.

4. Green Tea Extract

Green tea is packed with antioxidants that protect skin from environmental stressors like pollution. It also soothes redness and balances oil production, which is perfect for spring when skin might feel uneven or more reactive.

5. Hyaluronic Acid

One of the best humectants in skincare, hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. This makes it ideal for keeping skin deeply hydrated without heaviness. In spring, when humidity rises but skin still needs moisture, hyaluronic acid keeps skin plump and comfortable.

6. Ginseng

A traditional herbal ingredient, ginseng boosts circulation, supports collagen production and improves skin vitality.  National Institutes of Health (.gov) highlights, “Ginseng is widely used in cosmetics and skin care. The main active ingredient in ginseng is ginsenoside, and its effects on the skin are mostly anti-aging and whitening.” This helps skin stay firm and radiant, especially if it has looked dull after winter. Its antioxidant power also protects against environmental stress.

Choosing products with these natural Korean skincare ingredients means your skin gets gentle and effective care that matches the changing season.

Note: Make sure to do a patch‑test.

Best pre-Eid skincare routine 2026 | how to get glowing skin for Eid | Ramadan skincare tips for dehydrated skin | natural home remedies for Eid glow | when to get a facial before Eid | Pre-Eid skincare habits that actually work during Ramadan fasting

Best pre-Eid skincare routine 2026 | how to get glowing skin for Eid | Ramadan skincare tips for dehydrated skin | natural home remedies for Eid glow | when to get a facial before Eid | Pre-Eid skincare habits that actually work during Ramadan fasting

Eid preparations usually start with outfits and accessories but somewhere along the way, skincare joins the list too. Between long fasting hours, changing weather, and late-night gatherings, the skin can feel a little tired — making a simple pre-Eid reset all the more welcome.

Hydration is key

One of the biggest challenges during Ramadan is maintaining hydration. Yes yes, it’s the age-old advice of drinking your weight, but honestly there is no better or sustainable option out there!

Long hours without water leaves your skin looking tired, which is why replenishing fluids from iftar till sehri becomes very important.

Alongside plain water, many people are now turning to chia seed water for hydration boost. Electrolyte drinks are also becoming popular, particularly for those who spend long days outside or remain active during Ramadan.

Cleansing and Gentle Exfoliation

A good cleansing routine remains the foundation of healthy skin. And no, you need not have five steps for cleaning your face. However, with warmer weather and daily exposure to dust, sweat, and pollution, cleansing twice a day with a mild face wash is a must.

Also, cleansing alone is not always enough. Gentle exfoliation two to three times a week can help the skin appear brighter and smoother. This step allows moisturisers and serums to absorb more effectively.

That said, moderation is key. Do not over-exfoliate! Especially if you don’t want an irritated skin and with micro tears.

The Truth About Glow

If miracle under-eye creams actually worked overnight, dark circles would have gone extinct by now!

Yet as Eid approaches, ads promising instant fixes seem to pop up everywhere.  Rollers, creams and serums all claiming to erase tired eyes in record time.

The truth, however, is far less dramatic.

Dark circles are often linked to genetics, lack of sleep, dehydration, stress, and dry skin. What does help here is a good moisturiser paired with a hydrating serum. Pair it up with a good sunscreen and you have the golden combination. One that can improve the under-eye area, as well as pigmentation around the mouth and chin.

Nourish From Within

Great skincare begins at the iftar table. While our iftar spread often features fried snacks, balancing them with lighter options can make a visible difference to both energy levels and skin health.

Dishes such as chickpea salad, pasta salad or yoghurt-based drinks with limited sugar are refreshing alternatives that nourish the body without overwhelming it.

Word of advice? Cut down the oil now if you don’t want to welcome a breakout right before Eid.

Time Your Facials

Thinking of getting a facial before Eid? Timing matters.

Most skincare experts recommend booking treatments 10 to 12 days before the celebration. This gives the skin enough time to settle in case of temporary redness or irritation. Trying a brand-new facial too close to Eid can be a very risky business; hardly ideal when festivities are just around the corner.

Keep It Simple

When Eid is approaching, simplicity tends to work best.

A routine built around hydration, gentle cleansing, light exfoliation and moisturising is more than enough to keep skin looking fresh and balanced. Be consistent and the glow will follow.

The mother behind clean skincare and natural pain relief

The mother behind clean skincare and natural pain relief

FormulaK8 was born during one of life’s most defining seasons, motherhood.

Founder Katie Powell didn’t set out to build a skincare and wellness brand. She was simply trying to protect her growing family. While pregnant with her son, Braxton, Katie began questioning the products she used every day, assuming that well-known brands would naturally be safe.

“I started really reading ingredient labels for the first time,” Katie shares. “And I was honestly shocked by how many chemicals were hiding in products I had trusted for years.”

Natural, cleaner alternatives did exist, but at price points that felt out of reach for many families. “So I thought, if I can’t afford these options, how many other people are in the same position?” she says. “That didn’t sit right with me.”

So Katie did what many mothers do when solutions fall short: She created her own.

She began formulating products using plant-based, natural ingredients that were safe, effective, and thoughtfully made. What started at her kitchen counter soon evolved into something much larger, a growing realization that wellness shouldn’t feel exclusive or out of reach.

“Our mission has always been simple,” Katie explains.

“We’re here to help. Everyone deserves safe, effective products without harmful chemicals.”

That belief became the foundation of FormulaK8, a Canadian-made, Okanagan-born brand built on kindness, transparency, and the desire to help.

At its core, FormulaK8 focuses on creating clean, toxin-free wellness products designed to enhance vitality, soothe pain, and support skin health, without compromise. Each formula eliminates harsh ingredients while maintaining results that people can genuinely feel.

But FormulaK8’s story doesn’t stop at skincare.

Katie’s mission deepened during her mother’s battle with chronic pain. Following spinal surgery, her mother was prescribed heavy opioids that dulled not only the pain, but her presence.

Watching someone she loved struggle with side effects and dependency, Katie once again turned to natural solutions, this time creating pain-relief salves infused with healing, plant-based ingredients.

“It was hard to watch,” Katie recalls. “She wasn’t herself. The medication helped the pain, but it took so much from her at the same time.”

Over time, those remedies helped reduce her mother’s reliance on medication and restore a sense of vitality that had been missing. That experience solidified FormulaK8’s purpose: to offer holistic, effective alternatives that support both physical and emotional well- being.

Sustainability is woven into every part of the brand. FormulaK8 uses ethically sourced, plant-based ingredients and recyclable packaging, intentionally avoiding wastefulness, greenwashing, or surface-level sustainability claims. Each decision is made with long-term impact in mind, caring for both people and the planet.

The brand’s commitment to wellness extends beyond its products. FormulaK8 proudly donates 5% of all sales to the Canadian Mental Health Association Kelowna, reinforcing the belief that true wellness includes mental health, community care, and compassion.

Whether it’s skincare that revitalizes or natural remedies that ease discomfort, everything FormulaK8 creates is rooted in the same guiding principle: help should be honest, inclusive, and grounded in care.

Today, FormulaK8 stands as more than a business. It’s a reflection of Katie’s journey as a mother, a daughter, and a woman who chose to question the status quo and build something better.

Because at FormulaK8, wellness isn’t about perfection. It’s about care. And everyone deserves access to it.
