Emma Willis, 50, reveals the 4 daily habits behind her glowing skin

Emma Willis, 50, reveals the 4 daily habits behind her glowing skin

Emma and Matt Willis are frequently referred to as TV’s ‘hottest couple’ and as a devout Busted fan, my mind normally goes straight to Matt, but after spending a morning with Emma, I found myself texting my friends telling them all that she was the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen.

Incredibly toned and glowing with nary a wrinkle to be seen, Emma also has the most sculpted jawline I have ever seen, so it was baffling when the 50-year-old, who is taking the helm of Strictly this year, admitted that she wants skincare to help sort her “crepey neck” – which I personally could see no signs of whatsoever.

Emma Willis has insecurities, just like the rest of us

Emma Willis’ new approach

At an event celebrating her new role as the face of M&S’ own brand skincare collection, Formula, Emma lamented: “There’s a mirror in my house that has the worst lighting. Every time I go near it, all I can see are the stringy bits in my neck.”

While I couldn’t see one single flaw, Emma continued: “At the end of my thirties I noticed my skin was changing, but I did nothing about it. My skincare routine was non-existent at that age; I coasted through and never even took my mascara off – plus, I was a sun worshipper.

Emma Willis is the new face of M&S’ science-backed skincare range, Formula

“Then, when I hit my forties, everything headed south. Every time I looked in the mirror there was something new that bothered me. I’d forget what I wanted to sort because there was always a new problem,” the Love is Blind host lamented.

Emma said she felt “overwhelmed” with all the different skincare options when she was trying to build her own regimen, which is why, when M&S approached her to be the face of Formula, she was reluctant at first. “I wanted a meeting to make sure I knew and understood the range,” she says.

Once introduced to the collection, Emma was 100% on board, sharing she loves the range because it doesn’t “overcomplicate skincare,” adding: “We’ve all heard the buzzwords, but most people just want to know what something does and whether it works.”

Emma’s skincare and supplements at 50

Emma’s picks from the collection include The Ultra Peptide Eye Cream £20, because it “doesn’t sting”, and of course, The Ultra Peptide Neck & Décolletage Cream, £19.50, for her supposed “crepey neck”.

She also takes Absolute Collagen supplements, to support collagen production, writing on Instagram: “My day does not begin until I’ve added my @absolutecollagen powder in my morning coffee.”

She also takes Bare Biology’s Vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2 Spray, £21.95, Thorne’s Omega 3 with COQ10, £35.59 for 90 capsules, and Zenement’s Red Yeast Rice Capsules, £20.97 for 540 capsules.

A wellness obsession

As well as a skincare routine which is clearly working, Emma is open about being “obsessed” with health and wellness – back in January she shared she was “trying to commit to saunas,” and she’s stepped up her wellness habit since then, with her and Matt jetting to longevity and gut health retreat Mayrlife, to immerse themselves in living well.

© InstagramEmma Willis is committed to wellness, sharing she hopes to dedicate more time to sitting in the sauna

“Wellness clinics are my idea of a perfect ‘holiday’,” Emma wrote on Instagram. On the tests she went through while at the Austrian retreat, Emma continued: ” Blood tests, specialist consultations and health analysis helped build a picture of where I am now and, more importantly, what I can do to support myself in the future. “

She added: “I have always been obsessed with health and the older I get the longer I wanna live.”

Emma and Matt Willis loved their stay at Mayrlife

The former host of The Voice shared that she booked in for functional training, reformer Pilates, lymphatic drainage, abdominal massage and craniosacral therapy while as the resort, sharing: “I’m depuffed and defogged(ish).”

Matt, who has spoken openly about addiction and his quest for health now that he’s sober, agreed with his wife on the special experience. “I’ve spent a lot of years learning to look after my mind. This reminded me that looking after the rest of me deserves just as much attention too.”

The Busted bassist said he booked in for cryotherapy and IV drips, teaching his body to rest after going at “100mph with 50 tabs open” in his brain.

Fit at 50

As mentioned, Emma is impeccably toned, with the mother-of-three wearing a tiny white vest at the Formula event, and just like her super fit husband, she is dedicated to working out.

In June she spent five days hiking the Jurassic Coast with Coppafeel – the fourth time she’s undertaken a walking trial with the charity, while she and Matt have his and hers rowing machines at home.

© InstagramEmma Willis works out hard with her trainer

She also works out with personal trainer Rob Solly, concentrating on weight training. He told Women’s Health: “Our training is predominantly strength-based, with plyometrics and brief periods of high heart rates,’ combining everything from skipping and boxing to rowing and weights .

Emma’s routine certainly works, and will set her in good stead for her increased workload with Strictly…

Pamela Anderson reveals the four skincare products she swears by at 59

Pamela Anderson reveals the four skincare products she swears by at 59

For decades, Pamela Anderson was synonymous with glamorous Hollywood beauty. Today, however, the 59-year-old actress and model is redefining what beauty looks like by embracing simplicity, self-acceptance and healthy skin over perfection.

In an era dominated by elaborate 10-step skincare routines, cosmetic enhancements and social media beauty trends, Anderson has become an unlikely champion of minimalist skincare.

Her philosophy is refreshingly straightforward: healthy, hydrated skin doesn’t require dozens of products or hours in front of the mirror.

“Less is more,” she says – a mantra that has become the foundation of both her skincare routine and her outlook on ageing.

Beauty begins with acceptance

Rather than viewing ageing as something to resist, Anderson sees it as a natural part of life.

She has repeatedly spoken about rejecting unrealistic beauty standards, choosing instead to care for her skin rather than trying to erase every sign of time.

Instead of referring to the process as ageing, she prefers to call it “life-ing” – embracing each stage of life with confidence and authenticity.

Her message resonates with women who are increasingly seeking realistic, sustainable approaches to beauty instead of unattainable ideals.

Pamela Anderson’s four skincare essentials

After launching her own vegan skincare line featuring just four products, Anderson explained that effective skincare doesn’t have to be complicated.

Her routine focuses on nourishing the skin barrier and maintaining long-lasting hydration.

1. A nourishing lip balm

Lips are often one of the first areas to show visible signs of ageing because they contain no oil glands and have thinner skin than the rest of the face.

Anderson recommends keeping lips continuously hydrated with a nourishing balm. Ingredients such as peptides, hyaluronic acid and collagen can help soften fine lines while improving moisture and giving lips a fuller, smoother appearance over time.

Regular use also helps protect lips from environmental damage and prevents dryness throughout the day.

2. A gentle cleanser

No matter the season, Anderson believes cleansing should remain gentle and consistent.

She washes her face morning and evening using a cleanser formulated with soothing botanical ingredients such as aloe vera, ginger root extract and bisabolol.

These ingredients help calm redness, remove impurities and maintain the skin’s natural moisture barrier without stripping away essential oils.

For mature skin, harsh cleansers can contribute to dryness and sensitivity, making a mild formula a far better choice.

3. A hydrating serum

One of Anderson’s biggest skincare priorities is ensuring her skin feels healthy, calm and comfortable.

Immediately after cleansing, she applies a serum while her skin is still slightly damp to maximise hydration.

Serums deliver concentrated active ingredients deeper into the skin than traditional moisturisers.

For mature skin, ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, peptides, antioxidants and niacinamide can help address concerns including dehydration, uneven skin tone, fine lines and loss of elasticity.

4. A rich moisturising cream

If there is one lesson Anderson wishes she had learnt earlier, it is the importance of hydration.

A good moisturising cream locks in moisture, strengthens the skin barrier and helps reduce dryness – one of the most common concerns associated with mature skin.

A richer cream can also double as an overnight treatment, allowing the skin to recover while you sleep and leaving it feeling softer and more supple by morning.

The makeup-free moment that changed the conversation

Paris Fashion Week became the backdrop for one of Anderson’s most talked-about beauty moments when she attended several Spring/Summer shows in October 2023 completely makeup-free.

Appearing bare-faced at presentations including those by Vivienne Westwood, Victoria Beckham and Isabel Marant, Anderson challenged conventional red carpet expectations and sparked global conversations about natural beauty.

She later explained that she simply no longer wanted to spend hours in a makeup chair or compete with unrealistic beauty standards.

Instead, she chose authenticity, finding freedom in showing the world her natural face.

Confidence over perfection

Perhaps Anderson’s greatest beauty secret has nothing to do with skincare products at all.

She has openly shared that she no longer measures herself against her younger self or feels pressured to chase eternal youth.

Instead, she believes that confidence comes from within and that caring for your skin should be about comfort, health and self-respect rather than perfection.

Her approach serves as a reminder that ageing gracefully is less about turning back the clock and more about embracing every chapter with confidence.

Isha Ambani reveals the secret to her flawless and glowing skin: ‘I do nothing to my skin. No sunscreen, no…’

Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s eldest daughter, Isha Ambani, is known for her incredible sartorial choices, which range from straight-off-the-runway haute couture looks to handcrafted outfits designed by traditional Indian artisans and designer Indian wear. However, it is not just her fashion flair but also her flawless skin that impresses many.

Isha Ambani believes in a minimal skincare routine that involves no products.

On several occasions, Isha is often seen sans any makeup or with just a minimal touch-up; a firm believer in a no-makeup makeup look. During a Vogue June 2024 interview, she was asked to share her skincare routine, and here’s what she revealed.

Isha Ambani’s beauty secret

When Isha was questioned about her skincare routine, the business mogul confessed that she has nothing to hide and that she believes in using no products. In a world where consumers are easily swayed by the glamorous new products that are launched every day in the skincare market, Isha’s skincare routine includes no products.

She told the publication, “My beauty secret is that I have no beauty routine or regimen, much to the disappointment of many. I do nothing to my skin. No face wash, no moisturiser, no SPF, nothing.” On April 27, a fan page posted a snippet of the interview on Instagram and praised Isha for her flawless beauty writing, “Isha Ambani proving you don’t need fancy skincare to glow.”

What does science say?

According to a Harvard Health report, all moisturisers help with dry skin for a pretty simple reason: they supply a little bit of water to the skin and contain a greasy substance that holds it in.

Meanwhile, a Johns Hopkins Medicine report claims wearing sunscreen is one of the best and easiest ways to protect your skin’s appearance and health at any age. Used regularly, sunscreen helps prevent sunburn, skin cancer, and premature ageing.

About Isha Ambani

Isha Ambani is the eldest daughter of India’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, and his wife, Nita Ambani. She also has two brothers, Akash Ambani and Anant Ambani. In December 2018, Isha married her husband, Anand Piramal, the son of billionaire Ajay Piramal. Their pre-wedding celebrations featured a performance by Beyoncé and a star-studded guest list, including Nick and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Hillary Clinton, and more. Four years later, Isha gave birth to twins Krishna and Aadiya in November 2022.

Does Natural Skincare Actually Work? Tata Harper Reveals the Truth

Does Natural Skincare Actually Work? Tata Harper Reveals the Truth

LA Times Studios may earn commission from purchases made through our links.

At an Earth Day master class in Los Angeles, clean beauty pioneer Tata Harper opened with a myth she hears often. Natural skincare is seen as less effective than lab-made formulas. Speaking alongside Jill Wintersteen, who led a guided meditation ahead of the event, Harper used the launch of her Crème Supreme Moisturizer to explain why that assumption is outdated and what actually matters for skin health.

Natural ingredients are as powerful as the science behind them

“I love how there is this misconception that doing natural products and dealing with natural ingredients means you’re just juicing carrots and squeezing oranges,” Harper says laughingly. She emphasized that effectiveness comes down to the compound, not the origin. “The sophistication of an ingredient, whether man-made or natural, has to do with the compound itself.”

Biotechnology has made that distinction even less relevant. Ingredients can be developed now through natural processes like fermentation and biosynthesis while maintaining high performance. “For example, our hyaluronic acid is produced via fermentation by feeding bacteria root vegetables, and that bacteria then produces hyaluronic acid,” she said.

RELATED: How Growth Factors Are Transforming Anti-Aging Skincare

Harper pointed out that many ingredients used in traditional skincare were originally discovered in nature. “For decades, pharmaceutical companies and scientists have gone into nature to find new compounds,” she said. “Those are not the versions we get… we get them directly from nature so you get them in their purest form.”

Lifestyle drives skin aging more than products

Harper was direct about the limits of skincare. “I feel that lifestyle factors are the most fundamental factors in the way you age,” she said. “Skincare plays a supporting role the same way supplements do.”

Sleep is one of the most important factors. “Getting a good eight hours is amazing because that is when our skin repairs itself.” Stress is another major driver. “Controlling stress and cortisol spiking is another key strategy because cortisol breaks down collagen.”

Tata Harper Master Class

She also highlighted hydration, nutrition, and sugar intake as critical. “Avoid things like sugar, because sugar produces glycation that stiffens skin and damages collagen.” While that can be harder than we think, Tata’s message is simple. Products can enhance results, but they cannot replace foundational habits.

Hydration and barrier care are the foundation of healthy skin

If there is one immediate fix Harper recommends, it’s proper hydration. “There is an overabundance of dehydrated skin in the world because people are not properly moisturizing,” she said. Hydrated skin functions better and appears more resilient. Harper said her latest formula replenishes moisture and can improve elasticity over time. But, the broader takeaway applies across routines.

RELATED: Inside Tata Harper’s Farm-to-Face Skincare Revolution

And she warned against one of the most common mistakes she sees. Over-exfoliation. “I am a big believer in exfoliation,” she said, noting she prefers gentle daily formulas with enzymes and mild acids. But harsh peels and aggressive routines can do more harm than good. “You are damaging your barrier and degrading the outer layer, which can lead to inflammation, over-sensitization, and breakouts.”

For Harper, the future of skincare is about consistency. Healthy skin comes from supporting its natural processes. “Aging is nothing to be feared if you take care of yourself and prioritize wellness and healthiness,” she said.

The takeaway is less about a single product and more about shifting our perspective. Thinking about how ingredients are sourced to how the skin is supported every day.

Morgan Riddle Shares Tip on Turning SPF Into a Daily ‘Habit,’ Reveals the ‘Best Women’ to Follow Online (Exclusive)

Morgan Riddle Shares Tip on Turning SPF Into a Daily ‘Habit,’ Reveals the ‘Best Women’ to Follow Online (Exclusive)

Influencer Morgan Riddle doesn’t play when it comes to her sunscreen application.

While speaking exclusively with First for Women about her partnership with ISDIN for their Fusion Water Magic sunscreen — as part of the brand’s “Get It On” campaign to promote SPF use — the social media star, 28, reveals why she uses SPF consistently and how others can make it a daily habit.

Riddle is also, of course, dating tennis star Taylor Fritz, so she spends a lot of time outside at matches and is constantly on the go, making having a good skincare routine overall crucial. Find out how she prioritizes it despite her hectic schedule.

You’ve said sunscreen has become a “non-negotiable” in your routine — what finally made it click for you to wear SPF every single day?

MR: I actually have a few scars on my body from getting moles removed that had precancerous cells, and it’s really not fun to have to do that. It was the first time that I ever got stitches too; I hated it. After that, I started to prioritize sunscreen because I really don’t want to have to get any more moles removed. It’s not a pleasant experience, so I started to prioritize my skin health.

Morgan Riddle

For women who know they should wear sunscreen daily but struggle to stay consistent, what’s your best advice for turning it into a habit?

MR: There’s this thing called habit stacking from the book Atomic Habits, which is doing something that you’re not used to or that you don’t necessarily enjoy and stacking it with something that you already do or do enjoy. For me, sunscreen is the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning; I go straight into the bathroom and put it on before my morning walk. After doing it for a week, it becomes sort of natural to you.

You’re partnering with ISDIN — what stood out to you about Fusion Water Magic that made you want to incorporate it into your everyday routine?

MR: I love that it has hyaluronic acid in it; I really try to prioritize products that add a lot of moisture because my skin is more dry, so it’s a really nice hydrating base under makeup. It doesn’t just protect against the sun, it also protects against blue light and pollution, which I think is really important when I’m traveling so much and in so many different types of climates and really busy cities. I love that 360-degree protection.

Your schedule is always on the go, from travel to tennis tournaments, how do you make sure you’re protecting your skin no matter where you are?

MR: Making it a daily habit. It’s something that is a part of my skincare routine now every day, not just when I’m going out in the sun, and not just in the summer. I wear it year-round. Also, with flying on planes so often, since they’re so drying, I always just try to do a lot of layering with moisture products. I’ll put on a B5 serum, then a thick, heavy moisturizer, before I get on a flight. And then usually when I land, I try to do some sort of exfoliating mask or something just to get all of that sort of “ick” of the plane off of me.

How does your skincare routine shift with the seasons, and why is SPF the one step that never changes for you?

MR: It honestly stays consistent throughout the seasons. I would say the only thing that sort of slightly changes is the thickness of my moisturizer, depending on whether I’m in a winter climate or during the summer. However, I do wear SPF every single day year-round, even when it’s cloudy and gloomy outside, because I think we all know by now that even if the sun isn’t directly out, you’re still getting sun damage and still coming through the overcast. Even on a gloomy day, I make sure to put on SPF.

Who are your beauty icons, and what’s the best skincare or beauty lesson you’ve learned from them?

MR: I don’t know if I would say I have specific beauty icons. I follow a lot of beauty influencers, obviously, and I really like the older women on TikTok who are like “skinfluencers” because I feel like they’ve tried all the treatments, they’ve tried all of the products, so they’re not going to feature trendy products just because; I feel like they are the best women to listen to. I follow a few dermatologists on TikTok as well, mainly because I don’t want to blindly listen to influencers all the time about skincare, since everyone has such different skin. I like when people talk about beauty and skincare in a data and science-backed sort of way.

John Rasimus/starmaxinc.com/Newscom/The Mega Agency

What’s one beauty trend you’re loving right now—and how do you adapt trends to fit your own routine in a realistic, everyday way?

MR: I don’t know if this is a trend, but I’m really loving Australian makeup right now. I follow a few Australian makeup artists, and I really love the super glowy, bronzy, sun-kissed sort of makeup that they do there. I have gotten my makeup done in Australia and in the US, and the makeup artists there really do your makeup differently. They love super blushed, super bronzed skin with maybe a few fake freckles; I’ve seen a few videos about people trying Australian makeup, so I guess that’s sort of a trend right now!

When you’re packing for a weekend at a tennis tournament, what are your must-have beauty essentials — and what can you not leave home without?

MR: Oh, I always bring under-eye patches, face masks, and things that are, again, super hydrating because traveling so much is so drying. I always have the ISDIN Fusion Water Magic with me to protect my skin from the sun.  I actually always bring my full-size products and my full makeup bag with me everywhere. Since I travel so much, if I don’t bring one thing or I forget something, I end up just going to Sephora and repurchasing it, so it’s better for me to just bring everything so I don’t run out of anything I need.

Forget 'Botox in a bottle'! Dermatologist reveals exact Korean skincare routine to look ageless in your 40s

Forget ‘Botox in a bottle’! Dermatologist reveals exact Korean skincare routine to look ageless in your 40s

If your social media feed is full of serums promising to “erase” wrinkles and replicate the results of a cosmetic procedure, you’re not alone. The “Botox in a bottle” boom has been hard to ignore, but K-beauty experts say the real anti-ageing secret has nothing to do with a single hero product.

In your forties and beyond, it’s about working smarter, and Korean skincare could be the way to go. Prioritising hydration, skin barrier health and consistency over miracle claims, could this be the real key to maintaining a youthful complexion?

© Getty ImagesA dermatologist has shared Korean beauty products and routines that can support healthy ageing skin

To understand more about K-beauty tips and the routines to try, we caught up with Dr. Marie Jhin, a board-certified dermatologist and the author of The K-Beauty Secrets: Accessible Beauty for Every Woman.

“In Korea, the focus is never on dramatic changes – it’s on looking refreshed and natural,” she says. “That mindset, combined with the right ingredients and consistency, is what makes K-beauty so effective for women navigating this stage of life.” Here are the skincare routines and habits she recommends…

Supporting the skin barrier can protect against some signs of ageing

Understand key ageing times

Dr Jhin says there are two key life stages where women might notice accelerated ageing, and says supporting the skin barrier can help to protect against some of the effects.

“Research has identified two distinct peaks in the ageing process — one in your 40s and another in your 60s. That first peak is significant, and understanding why it happens is key to addressing it effectively,” she says.

“In your 40s, your skin undergoes real hormonal shifts — collagen production slows, the skin barrier becomes more fragile, and hydration retention decreases. Korean skincare philosophy approaches this not as ‘anti-aging’ but as skin health preservation — treating the skin with consistency and layering rather than dramatic intervention.”

The dermatologist recommends the following morning skincare routine

Recommended morning routine

  1. Low-pH gentle cleanser — preserves the acid mantle, which becomes more vulnerable in your 40s.

  2. Hydrating toner/essence — the cornerstone of K-beauty; look for fermented ingredients like galactomyces or bifida ferment lysate to boost radiance and cell renewal.

  3. Vitamin C serum — brightens hyperpigmentation (common in your 40s) and supports collagen synthesis.

  4. Lightweight moisturiser with ceramides — rebuilds the skin barrier.

  5. SPF 50 sunscreen — the single most impactful anti-ageing step, full stop.

These Korean beauty secrets could transform your evening skincare routine

Recommended evening routine

Meanwhile, the following evening skincare routine incorporates some popular K-beauty products to nourish skin.

  1. Double cleanse — oil cleanser first, then water-based, to ensure actives can fully penetrate.
  2. Exfoliating toner (2-3x weekly) — gentle AHAs like lactic acid to resurface without stripping.

  3. Peptide or PDRN (polynucleotide) serum — signals skin to produce collagen; hugely popular in Korean clinics.

  4. Retinol or bakuchiol — for cell turnover; bakuchiol is the gentler, Korean-favoured alternative for sensitive skin.

  5. Rich moisturiser or sleeping mask — seals everything in overnight.

These skincare ingredients are hugely popular in Korea

Hero K-Beauty ingredients

When you’re updating your skincare routine, these are the popular Korean beauty ingredients to consider trying, according to the dermatologist.

  • Snail secretion filtrate — repairs, hydrates and firms.
  • Centella asiatica (Cica) — calms inflammation and boosts collagen.
  • Niacinamide — evens skin tone, tightens pores and strengthens the barrier.
  • Hyaluronic acid and polyglutamic acid — multi-depth hydration that plumps skin from within.

Support circulation with a facial massage

Incorporate a gentle massage

Meanwhile, the skincare expert says that women in their 40s benefit most from collagen-stimulating treatments such as the following:

  • Skin boosters — injectable hydration is hugely popular in Korean clinics, giving a natural, plumped effect.
  • Regenerative treatments using PRP, or polynucleotide (PDRN) injections — derived from salmon DNA, these accelerate collagen repair.
  • Tightening devices such as Ulthera, XREF and Thermage — non-surgical options that lift and firm.
  • Toxins (botulinum toxin) — still the mainstay treatment for ageing skin in the 40s, when used subtly and skilfully.

Saif Ali Khan Reveals The One Habit That Keeps Him Looking Young At 55 | Health and Fitness News

Last Updated:March 09, 2026, 09:56 IST

Saif Ali Khan opens up about his holistic wellness routine and why lifestyle choices matter more than skincare after 50.

Saif Ali Khan recently appeared on Soha Ali Khan’s All About Her podcast.

In an industry obsessed with miracle creams and quick fixes, Saif Ali Khan believes the real secret to healthy skin and a youthful presence lies somewhere far less glamorous: everyday discipline.

The actor recently spoke about his approach to ageing well during a conversation with his sister, Soha Ali Khan, on her YouTube podcast. Rather than crediting a skincare routine or expensive treatments, the 55-year-old actor pointed to something far more fundamental – a balanced lifestyle built on sleep, nutrition, exercise and mindful habits.

For Saif Ali Khan, looking good is less about cosmetic solutions and more about the cumulative effect of small, consistent choices.

The Holistic Formula Behind His Glow

According to Saif, the idea of ageing gracefully begins with a broader perspective on health. He emphasised that physical appearance is often a reflection of how one lives day to day. “It’s a holistic thing, you have to sleep well, eat well, especially at my age, and exercise. Every little thing shows up on your face. To look good, you also have to behave well,” he shared.

This philosophy mirrors what many wellness experts emphasise today: skin health is deeply connected to internal wellbeing. Poor sleep, stress and erratic eating habits can often show up as fatigue, dullness or premature ageing.

Why Lifestyle Matters More After 50

Saif also acknowledged that the body becomes less forgiving with age. Habits that might not have had visible consequences in one’s younger years begin to show up more clearly over time.

When discussing skincare specifically for people in their 50s, the actor explained that the biggest factor is lifestyle consistency. “It reflects my lifestyle, my thoughts, and just generally good behaviour. You can’t get away with anything anymore.”

Late nights, excessive partying or smoking may once have seemed manageable, but the long-term effects eventually become visible. “It takes a little time to accept that those days are gone,” he admitted, highlighting a shift toward moderation and self-awareness that often accompanies ageing.

Fitness As A Long-Term Commitment

Fitness has also been an essential part of Saif’s routine for decades. While he has often spoken about strength training and sports in the past, his recent comments reinforce the importance of staying active, not just for appearance but for overall vitality.

Citrus fruits are known to contain more Vitamin C

Can Eating More Vitamin C Physically Change Your Skin? Study Reveals

Scientists discovered that vitamin C from food travels through the bloodstream into every layer of the skin, boosting collagen and skin renewal. People who ate two vitamin C-packed kiwifruit daily showed thicker, healthier skin. The findings suggest glowing skin really does start from within. Scientists at the University of Otago, Faculty of Medicine Christchurch Otautahi, have identified a direct connection between how much vitamin C people eat and how well their skin produces collagen and renews itself. The findings show that skin health responds measurably to dietary vitamin C, not just topical treatments. Published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, the research found that vitamin C levels in the skin closely mirror levels in the blood (plasma). Increasing intake through vitamin C rich foods was shown to raise both blood and skin concentrations.

Eating Vitamin C Raises Skin Levels and Thickness

The study followed 24 healthy adults in Aotearoa New Zealand and Germany. Participants who raised their plasma vitamin C levels by eating two vitamin C rich SunGoldTM kiwifruit each day showed a clear increase in vitamin C within their skin. This increase was associated with thicker skin (collagen production) and greater renewal of the outer skin layer. Lead author Professor Margreet Vissers from Matai Haora — Centre for Redox Biology and Medicine within the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine described the results as striking. The strength of the association between skin thickness and vitamin C intake is “compelling,” she explained.

Vitamin C Moves From Blood to Skin

According to Professor Vissers, the relationship between blood vitamin C and skin vitamin C stood out compared to other organs. “We were surprised by the tight correlation between plasma vitamin C levels and those in the skin this was much more marked than in any other organ we have investigated,” she says. The research team also found that vitamin C circulating in the bloodstream reaches every layer of the skin and supports healthier skin function. “We are the first to demonstrate that vitamin C in the blood circulation penetrates all layers of the skin and is associated with improved skin function. I am very proud of my team and excited about what the data is telling us.”

Why Diet Matters More Than Creams

Professor Vissers says the findings reinforce the idea that skin health begins internally, with nutrients delivered naturally through the bloodstream. Vitamin C is essential for collagen production, which is why it is commonly added to skincare products. However, vitamin C dissolves easily in water and does not absorb well through the outer skin barrier. The study showed that skin cells are highly efficient at absorbing vitamin C from the blood, with uptake into the outer epidermal layer appearing to be a priority.

How the Study Was Conducted

The research was funded by New Zealand company Zespri International, along with a University of Otago Research Grant, and included two phases. The first phase examined the relationship between plasma and skin vitamin C levels using healthy skin tissue from patients undergoing elective surgical procedures at Te Whatu Ora Canterbury (with support from the Otago campus’s He Taonga Tapu Canterbury Cancer Society Tissue Bank). The second phase involved a controlled dietary intervention carried out in Christchurch and Germany. Each location included 12 healthy participants.

Eight Weeks of Dietary Change

Participants were asked to eat two Kiwi Gold kiwifruit daily for eight weeks. This provided the equivalent of 250 micrograms of vitamin C. “All were instructed to consume two Kiwi Gold kiwifruit daily — the equivalent of 250 micrograms of vitamin C — for eight weeks. We then collected skin samples before and after the intervention, with separate analyses allowing us to look at the skin basal layers in Christchurch and the outer dermal skin layer and skin function tests in Germany,” Professor Vissers explains. German participants were recruited and tested by the SGS Institute Fresenius in Hamburg, which has the technical capability to collect samples from the outer dermal skin layer (the blister “roof”). The institute evaluated skin regeneration using ultrasound measurements of skin thickness, elasticity UV protection and epidermal cell renewal to assess overall skin function.

Clear Gains in Collagen and Skin Renewal

One of the most significant findings was a measurable rise in skin thickness among participants, indicating increased collagen production along with faster regeneration of epidermal cells. “The other really substantial finding showed a significant increase in the participants’ skin thickness levels, reflecting collagen production and an upsurge in the regeneration of their epidermal cells, in other words skin renewal,” Professor Vissers says.

Other Vitamin C Foods Likely Offer Similar Benefits

SunGold kiwifruit was selected for the study because of its consistently high vitamin C content. However, the researchers expect similar benefits from other vitamin C-rich foods, especially fresh fruits and vegetables such as citrus, berries, capsicums and broccoli. “We suggest that increasing your dietary vitamin C intake will result in effective vitamin C uptake into all compartments of the skin,” Professor Vissers says.

Daily Intake Is Key

Maintaining steady vitamin C levels in the blood is essential, since the body does not store the vitamin long term. Professor Vissers notes that healthy individuals can reach optimal plasma levels with about 250mg of vitamin C per day. “The important thing is to keep your plasma levels optimal, which we know can be easily achieved in a healthy person with a vitamin C intake of around 250mg per day. The body however does not store the vitamin, so we recommend 5+ a day, every day, with one of those five being a high vitamin C food, as a good habit to cultivate.”
