K-Beauty doesn’t always work for Indian skin: Dermatologist explains how to safely adapt Korean skincare trends

Korean skincare has gained massive popularity worldwide, with terms like glass skin, skin flooding, and 10-step routines becoming part of everyday beauty conversations. From sheet masks to snail mucin and fermented ingredients, Korean beauty or K-beauty, promises glowing, hydrated, flawless skin. But an important question remains: Are Korean skincare trends truly suitable for Indian skin? The answer is not a simple yes or no.

“Skincare trends can be exciting, but healthy skin is not achieved by copying routines blindly. What works for one skin type or climate may not necessarily suit another,” Dermatologist Dr Nivedita Dadu of Dadu Medical Centre, tells Health Shots.

Indian and Korean skin are not the same

Skin concerns are shaped by genetics, climate, lifestyle, and environmental exposure. Korean skincare is largely designed around East Asian skin types and cooler, less humid environments. Indian skin, on the other hand, has its own unique characteristics.

Indian skin usually contains higher melanin levels, which provide some natural protection against sun damage but also make it more prone to pigmentation, tanning, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

This means even minor acne or irritation can leave behind stubborn dark marks. At the same time, many parts of India experience intense heat, humidity, pollution, and prolonged sun exposure, all of which significantly influence skincare needs.

Why does K-beauty appeal to so many?

One reason Korean skincare has become popular is its focus on prevention and hydration. Unlike harsh skincare routines that aggressively target flaws, K-beauty emphasises maintaining the skin barrier and supporting long-term skin health. Hydrating toners, lightweight essences, ceramide-based moisturisers, and sunscreen are often beneficial for many skin types, including Indian skin.

“Korean skincare introduced people to the importance of hydration and barrier repair, which are valuable concepts in dermatology,” says Dr Dadu. However, appreciating the philosophy does not mean every trend should be adopted without thought.

How to use Korean skincare trends safely?

Please note these pointers before trying anything on your own:

  • Many people attempt elaborate Korean routines seen online without understanding their own skin condition.
  • A 10-step routine may sound luxurious, but layering multiple products can overwhelm the skin, especially in India’s hot, humid weather. Excessive layering may lead to clogged pores, irritation, breakouts, or increased oiliness.
  • People with acne-prone or sensitive skin often make the mistake of experimenting with multiple active ingredients at once, assuming that more products mean better results.
  • In reality, overdoing skincare can compromise the skin barrier and trigger inflammation.

Pigmentation and acne need special attention

Another big differences between Korean and Indian skin concerns is the frequency of pigmentation disorders. Indian patients commonly struggle with melasma, tanning, acne marks, and uneven skin tone. While many Korean products prioritise glow and hydration, they may not always address these concerns effectively.

For Indian skin, ingredients such as niacinamide, azelaic acid, retinoids, vitamin C, and carefully prescribed pigmentation treatments often play a more central role. Similarly, acne management must be personalised. Viral skincare products promoted online may not suit acne-prone Indian skin and can sometimes worsen breakouts.

Sunscreen matters more than trends

If there is one skincare lesson Indian consumers should prioritise, it is sunscreen. Sun exposure remains one of the leading causes of pigmentation, premature ageing, and skin damage. While Korean sunscreens are often praised for their elegant textures, the most effective sunscreen is ultimately the one that suits your skin and is used consistently. “People chase trending products but neglect daily sun protection. No skincare routine can succeed without sunscreen,” Dr Dadu explains.

Keep skincare simple and personalised

Healthy skin does not depend on following social media trends or owning dozens of products.

A practical skincare routine for most Indian skin types usually includes:

  • A gentle cleanser
  • A moisturiser suited to the skin type
  • Broad-spectrum sunscreen
  • Targeted treatments only when required

The focus should remain on skin health rather than chasing perfection.

“Korean skincare offers useful ideas, but skincare should never be trend-driven. Understanding your own skin and choosing treatments suited to Indian conditions will always give better and safer results than copying routines seen online,” concluded Dr Nivedita Dadu.

Skincare habits that actually work in cold weather

Skincare habits that actually work in cold weather

PICTURE: PEXELS/ SKIN CARE

Winter can be tough on your skin—cold air outside, dry indoor heating, and low humidity all work together to strip away moisture. The result? Tight, flaky, dull skin that feels like it needs extra care. The good news is that a simple, consistent routine can completely change your winter skin game.

Also see: How to use rice water for skin care

Here’s how to keep your glow all season long.

1. Switch to a Gentle, Hydrating Cleanser

Foaming or harsh cleansers can over-dry your skin in winter. Instead, opt for cream or hydrating cleansers that clean without stripping your natural oils.

Tip: Wash your face with lukewarm water—not hot water, which worsens dryness.

2. Layer Your Hydration (Not Just Moisturiser)

Hydration is key in cold weather. Think beyond moisturiser:

  • Hydrating toner or essence
  • Hyaluronic acid serum
  • Rich moisturiser to seal everything in

This layering method helps your skin hold moisture longer.

3. Upgrade to a Thicker Moisturiser

Winter is the time to go richer. Look for ingredients like:

  • Shea butter
  • Ceramides
  • Squalane
  • Glycerin

These help repair the skin barrier and prevent moisture loss.

4. Don’t Skip Sunscreen (Yes, Even in Winter)

UV rays are still active during winter, even when it’s cloudy. Daily SPF helps prevent premature ageing and protects your skin barrier.

Also see: Reasons to add sulphur to your skin care routine

5. Hydrate From the Inside Out

Cold weather often reduces how much water we drink. Keep your skin healthy by:

  • Drinking enough water
  • Eating water-rich foods (fruits, soups, vegetables)
  • Reducing excess caffeine

6. Exfoliate Gently (Less Is More)

Over-exfoliating in winter can damage your skin barrier. Stick to:

  • 1–2 times a week
  • Gentle chemical exfoliants (like lactic acid)

Avoid harsh scrubs that cause irritation.

7. Night Repair Is Everything

Nighttime is when your skin repairs itself. Use:

  • A nourishing night cream
  • Facial oils (if your skin is very dry)
  • Overnight masks once or twice a week

Wake up with softer, plumper skin.

8. Don’t Forget Lips, Hands & Body

Winter dryness doesn’t stop at your face:

  • Use lip balm regularly
  • Moisturise hands after washing
  • Apply body lotion immediately after showering

Small habits make a big difference.

Final Glow-Up Thought

Winter skincare isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing the right things consistently. Focus on hydration, barrier protection, and gentle care, and your skin will stay healthy, soft, and glowing even in the coldest months.

Minimal Beauty Routine: Why Fewer Products Can Work

Minimal Beauty Routine: Why Fewer Products Can Work

Lifestyle

-Oneindia Staff

Updated: Tuesday, May 12, 2026, 7:11 [IST]

A minimal beauty routine focuses on a few products that do clear jobs. Many people buy extra items, like multiple serums, toners, and masks. This can cost more and may irritate skin. For most people, a simple skincare routine can work well. The key is to cover cleansing, moisture, and sun protection every day.

Skin has a natural barrier that holds water and blocks irritants. Using too many products can upset this barrier. You may see dryness, redness, or breakouts. A minimal beauty routine is also easier to follow. If you use fewer steps, you can spot what helps or harms your skin. This matters in hot, humid, or dusty Indian weather.

A minimal beauty routine emphasizing cleansing, moisturizing, and daily broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen protects the skin’s natural barrier and prevents irritation. This simplified approach is easier to manage and identifies effective products for healthy skin.

Most routines can start with three items: a gentle cleanser, a moisturiser, and a broad-spectrum sunscreen. These cover daily dirt removal, barrier support, and UV protection. If you use only one product beyond cleansing, choose sunscreen. Sun damage can lead to dark spots and early ageing. Basic steps done daily often beat many steps done at times.

Cleanser: keep it gentle

A cleanser should remove sweat, oil, sunscreen, and pollution. It should not leave skin tight or squeaky. For oily skin, a light gel cleanser can suit. For dry skin, a cream cleanser can feel better. If you wear heavy makeup, you may need a first cleanse with micellar water or a cleansing balm, then your usual cleanser.

Moisturiser: support the skin barrier

Moisturiser helps reduce water loss and keeps skin calm. Even oily or acne-prone skin can need it. Choose a texture that matches your skin feel. Light lotions often suit humid months. Richer creams can suit dry skin or winter. Look for simple formulas if your skin is sensitive. A moisturiser can also help reduce irritation from active products.

Sunscreen: the daily non-negotiable

Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Apply it every morning, even on cloudy days. Reapply if you are outdoors, sweat a lot, or wipe your face. Sunscreen helps prevent tanning, dark spots, and uneven tone. If your skin stings, try a fragrance-free option. For deeper skin tones, pick one that leaves less white cast.

Do you need toner, serum, or face oil?

You may not need them, but some can help with clear goals. A serum can target acne marks, dullness, or dryness. Niacinamide can support oil control. Vitamin C can help with uneven tone. Face oils can help very dry skin, but may feel heavy in heat. Skip extra steps if your skin is already stable with the basics.

Exfoliation: use less than you think

Exfoliation can smooth rough skin and help clogged pores, but overuse can cause burning and peeling. Start once a week if you use an exfoliating acid. Do not mix many exfoliants at once. If you use a retinoid, be careful with acids on the same day. Scrubs can be harsh, so use a gentle hand if you choose one.

Minimal makeup: fewer items, smarter choices

A minimal beauty routine can include makeup, but keep the kit small. A tinted sunscreen or light base can replace heavy foundation for daily wear. A lip and cheek tint can do two jobs. Use products you can remove easily at night. If you get breakouts, choose non-comedogenic options and clean brushes and sponges often.

How to choose products and avoid waste

Buy one product per step and finish it before replacing it. Patch test new items on a small area for a few days. Add only one new product at a time, then watch for changes. Avoid buying items only due to trends. Read labels for known irritants, such as strong fragrance, if your skin reacts. Small sizes can reduce waste.

Simple routines for common skin types

For oily skin: gel cleanser, light moisturiser, matte or gel sunscreen. For dry skin: cream cleanser, richer moisturiser, hydrating sunscreen. For sensitive skin: gentle cleanser, basic moisturiser, fragrance-free sunscreen. For acne-prone skin: avoid many layers and heavy oils. If you add an acne treatment, keep the rest of the routine simple and steady.

Common reasons minimal routines fail

Many people switch products too fast. Skin needs time to adjust. Another issue is using too little sunscreen, or skipping reapplication outdoors. Over-cleansing can also cause more oil and irritation. Mixing many actives is a common problem, like acids, retinoids, and strong vitamin C in one routine. Keep steps few and repeatable, morning and night.

When you may need expert advice

See a dermatologist for painful acne, sudden rashes, or skin that burns with most products. Also seek help for dark patches that spread, severe dandruff, or itchy, cracked skin. If you are pregnant, ask before using strong acne or anti-ageing products. A doctor can guide safe options and help you avoid buying items that do not suit your skin.

Does Natural Skincare Actually Work? Tata Harper Reveals the Truth

Does Natural Skincare Actually Work? Tata Harper Reveals the Truth

LA Times Studios may earn commission from purchases made through our links.

At an Earth Day master class in Los Angeles, clean beauty pioneer Tata Harper opened with a myth she hears often. Natural skincare is seen as less effective than lab-made formulas. Speaking alongside Jill Wintersteen, who led a guided meditation ahead of the event, Harper used the launch of her Crème Supreme Moisturizer to explain why that assumption is outdated and what actually matters for skin health.

Natural ingredients are as powerful as the science behind them

“I love how there is this misconception that doing natural products and dealing with natural ingredients means you’re just juicing carrots and squeezing oranges,” Harper says laughingly. She emphasized that effectiveness comes down to the compound, not the origin. “The sophistication of an ingredient, whether man-made or natural, has to do with the compound itself.”

Biotechnology has made that distinction even less relevant. Ingredients can be developed now through natural processes like fermentation and biosynthesis while maintaining high performance. “For example, our hyaluronic acid is produced via fermentation by feeding bacteria root vegetables, and that bacteria then produces hyaluronic acid,” she said.

RELATED: How Growth Factors Are Transforming Anti-Aging Skincare

Harper pointed out that many ingredients used in traditional skincare were originally discovered in nature. “For decades, pharmaceutical companies and scientists have gone into nature to find new compounds,” she said. “Those are not the versions we get… we get them directly from nature so you get them in their purest form.”

Lifestyle drives skin aging more than products

Harper was direct about the limits of skincare. “I feel that lifestyle factors are the most fundamental factors in the way you age,” she said. “Skincare plays a supporting role the same way supplements do.”

Sleep is one of the most important factors. “Getting a good eight hours is amazing because that is when our skin repairs itself.” Stress is another major driver. “Controlling stress and cortisol spiking is another key strategy because cortisol breaks down collagen.”

She also highlighted hydration, nutrition, and sugar intake as critical. “Avoid things like sugar, because sugar produces glycation that stiffens skin and damages collagen.” While that can be harder than we think, Tata’s message is simple. Products can enhance results, but they cannot replace foundational habits.

Hydration and barrier care are the foundation of healthy skin

If there is one immediate fix Harper recommends, it’s proper hydration. “There is an overabundance of dehydrated skin in the world because people are not properly moisturizing,” she said. Hydrated skin functions better and appears more resilient. Harper said her latest formula replenishes moisture and can improve elasticity over time. But, the broader takeaway applies across routines.

RELATED: Inside Tata Harper’s Farm-to-Face Skincare Revolution

And she warned against one of the most common mistakes she sees. Over-exfoliation. “I am a big believer in exfoliation,” she said, noting she prefers gentle daily formulas with enzymes and mild acids. But harsh peels and aggressive routines can do more harm than good. “You are damaging your barrier and degrading the outer layer, which can lead to inflammation, over-sensitization, and breakouts.”

For Harper, the future of skincare is about consistency. Healthy skin comes from supporting its natural processes. “Aging is nothing to be feared if you take care of yourself and prioritize wellness and healthiness,” she said.

The takeaway is less about a single product and more about shifting our perspective. Thinking about how ingredients are sourced to how the skin is supported every day.

Best pre-Eid skincare routine 2026 | how to get glowing skin for Eid | Ramadan skincare tips for dehydrated skin | natural home remedies for Eid glow | when to get a facial before Eid | Pre-Eid skincare habits that actually work during Ramadan fasting

Best pre-Eid skincare routine 2026 | how to get glowing skin for Eid | Ramadan skincare tips for dehydrated skin | natural home remedies for Eid glow | when to get a facial before Eid | Pre-Eid skincare habits that actually work during Ramadan fasting

Eid preparations usually start with outfits and accessories but somewhere along the way, skincare joins the list too. Between long fasting hours, changing weather, and late-night gatherings, the skin can feel a little tired — making a simple pre-Eid reset all the more welcome.

Hydration is key

One of the biggest challenges during Ramadan is maintaining hydration. Yes yes, it’s the age-old advice of drinking your weight, but honestly there is no better or sustainable option out there!

Long hours without water leaves your skin looking tired, which is why replenishing fluids from iftar till sehri becomes very important.

Alongside plain water, many people are now turning to chia seed water for hydration boost. Electrolyte drinks are also becoming popular, particularly for those who spend long days outside or remain active during Ramadan.

Cleansing and Gentle Exfoliation

A good cleansing routine remains the foundation of healthy skin. And no, you need not have five steps for cleaning your face. However, with warmer weather and daily exposure to dust, sweat, and pollution, cleansing twice a day with a mild face wash is a must.

Also, cleansing alone is not always enough. Gentle exfoliation two to three times a week can help the skin appear brighter and smoother. This step allows moisturisers and serums to absorb more effectively.

That said, moderation is key. Do not over-exfoliate! Especially if you don’t want an irritated skin and with micro tears.

The Truth About Glow

If miracle under-eye creams actually worked overnight, dark circles would have gone extinct by now!

Yet as Eid approaches, ads promising instant fixes seem to pop up everywhere.  Rollers, creams and serums all claiming to erase tired eyes in record time.

The truth, however, is far less dramatic.

Dark circles are often linked to genetics, lack of sleep, dehydration, stress, and dry skin. What does help here is a good moisturiser paired with a hydrating serum. Pair it up with a good sunscreen and you have the golden combination. One that can improve the under-eye area, as well as pigmentation around the mouth and chin.

Nourish From Within

Great skincare begins at the iftar table. While our iftar spread often features fried snacks, balancing them with lighter options can make a visible difference to both energy levels and skin health.

Dishes such as chickpea salad, pasta salad or yoghurt-based drinks with limited sugar are refreshing alternatives that nourish the body without overwhelming it.

Word of advice? Cut down the oil now if you don’t want to welcome a breakout right before Eid.

Time Your Facials

Thinking of getting a facial before Eid? Timing matters.

Most skincare experts recommend booking treatments 10 to 12 days before the celebration. This gives the skin enough time to settle in case of temporary redness or irritation. Trying a brand-new facial too close to Eid can be a very risky business; hardly ideal when festivities are just around the corner.

Keep It Simple

When Eid is approaching, simplicity tends to work best.

A routine built around hydration, gentle cleansing, light exfoliation and moisturising is more than enough to keep skin looking fresh and balanced. Be consistent and the glow will follow.

Skincare Routines of Bollywood Celebrities That Actually Work

93

Most of us don’t provide the best services to our skin until it starts acting up. Dullness, sudden breakouts, fine lines, or uneven texture are some of the warning signs your skin tells you it’s time you take care of it. Just like your body, your skin goes through pollution, late nights, and stress. That’s where these Bollywood celebrities bring great skincare routines that help us have healthy and glowing skin.

You Might Be Interested In

No one cares for their skin like Kriti Sanon and Madhuri Dixit. Right from the early years, the actresses have designed a strict routine for their skin from morning to night. The beauty stars shared some great tips from their routines, highlighting beauty brands and ways to use them.

Real Skincare Routine That Actually Works

A real skincare routine is not just about relying on quick fixes but about keeping things simple and balanced. Some days your skin may feel oily, dull, or exhausted, and on some days your skin may glow. The real secret lies in finding a balance between lifestyle habits and using good beauty brands.

You Might Be Interested In

Skin starts looking calm, gentle, and naturally glowy with simple adjustments and proper skincare products. It starts learning to fight pollution, exhaustion, sun exposure, and lack of sleep without immediate complaints.

Can Simple Skincare Actually Work

Modern skincare requires complex routines and many active ingredients. They may show quick results, but they do not last long. Bollywood celebrities often follow consistent and straightforward routines for their glamorous skin to look camera-ready, even when they get up. They stick to simple hydration, gentle exfoliation, and adequate sun protection.

The Core Idea Behind Everyday Skincare Habits

Morning Routine with Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri keeps her mornings simple, consistent, and skin-first.

  • She starts with a gentle cleanser to remove overnight buildup, followed by a toner to prep the skin.

  • Toner comes next to wake the skin up and prep it properly

  • Vitamin C is her glow hero. Brightens, supports collagen, keeps skin looking fresh

  • Moisturiser to lock everything in and keep skin comfortable all day

  • SPF is non-negotiable. Indoors, outdoors, cloudy days, always

Simple, disciplined, and very Madhuri. Consistency over complexity.

Evening routine: Madhuri Dixit

At the end of the day, Madhuri focuses on thorough cleansing and repair.

  • She begins with a cleansing balm to break down makeup and sunscreen,

  • followed by micellar water and makeup wipes for a deeper clean

  • A gentle cleanser ensures no residue is left behind.

  • She then applies toner, Vitamin C, and moisturiser to restore balance.

  • Under-eye cream targets fine lines and fatigue, while lip balm keeps lips soft overnight.

Morning routine: Kriti Sanon

Kriti’s morning skincare routine is calm, gentle, and very intuitive.

  • A key rule she follows is being kind to the skin, no harsh rubbing, no rushing. Slightly damp skin helps absorb most ingredients better

  • If you choose to use a toner, she suggests an alcohol-free one.

  • Vitamin C serum is best used in the morning since it acts as a powerful antioxidant, offers added protection against UV damage, brightens the skin, supports collagen, and softens fine lines.

  • Sunscreen is non-negotiable. She recommends choosing one that suits your skin type, cream or lotion for dry skin, gel for oily skin, ideally with ceramides to support the skin barrier.

  • Apply one sunscreen, let it absorb fully, then layer a tinted sunscreen on top rather than mixing products, as some formulas do not work well together and uneven layering can reduce protection.

  • Lip balm is just as important as face care. It helps prevent chapping and darkening and can even be gently applied on eyelids and the corners of the eyes.

Evening routine: Kriti Sanon

Kriti’s evening routine is all about hydration and barrier repair.

  • She starts by dampening her skin with rose water, then applies a niacinamide toner to refine and calm the skin.

  • A hydrating serum with peptides and hyaluronic acid boosts moisture, followed by a gentle retinol serum for skin renewal.

  • She seals everything in with a ceramide-rich moisturiser, making sure not to skip the neck.

  • Lip balm is applied generously, including near the eyes to help prevent crow’s feet.

  • For lashes and brows, she uses a mix of castor and olive oil to keep them nourished and strong.

Final Thoughts

These Bollywood celebrities believe that glam skin starts with an adequate skincare routine and consistency. Kriti Sanon and Madhuri Dixit’s skincare routines are thoughtful and easy to follow, giving fresh skin every single day.

A little care done consistently is the secret behind long-lasting, flawless skin. Start listening to your skin and customize the skincare routines. These skincare routines are practical and effective, leaving behind lasting, glassy skin that leaves your skin camera-ready even on your tough days. You don’t have to indulge in fancy or luxury skincare products- just focus on simple, basic, and effective routines using basic and natural products.

10-step Routine Does Not Work: Celebrity Makeup Artist Namrata Soni’s Hot Take on Modern Skincare Trends

Celebrity makeup artist Namrata Soni sparked a vital conversation on modern-day beauty standards, stressing that India’s weather conditions, lifestyles, and skin types may have made the much-followed “10-step skincare routine” unsuitable for many people.
In a conversation with ANI, Namrata, while reflecting on the industry’s evolving expectations, also mentioned the rise of “botox and filters”.
“We live in a country where the 10-step skincare routine does not work because we have a lot of humidity. So that means after step one itself, you’re perspiring. Imagine you’re putting that on, then you’re sweating, then you’re putting on another. So you’re like literally putting sweat between each layer of your skin. It’s crazy. Just keep it simple. Cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen, and eye cream at night. That’s all you need,” Namrata said.
Noting that heavy filter culture has created pressure on people to constantly appear flawless, Namrata added, “We live in a world of Botox and fillers and surgeries. It’s so easy with lasers and CO2 to have that kind of skin today.”
She emphasised how Indians with a lot of elasticity and melatonin in their skin don’t face the quick wrath of ageing, which she explained requires women to start a proper skincare routine from their mid-20s.
“Mid-20s is when you start a skincare routine. I mean, people have started at 16 and 14, which I don’t understand. I don’t understand girls going to Sephora and buying skincare at 14 and 16. But I would say like 23, 24. And it does not have to be a crazy routine. It just could be an amazing moisturiser meant for your skin type and a lip balm, and a sunscreen,” she said.
A renowned makeup artist, Namrata Soni, is known for working alongside several Bollywood celebrities like Sonakshi Sinha, Rani Mukerji, Sonam Kapoor, Twinkle Khanna, and others.
In the most recent, Namrata also created the stunning bridal look for Netra Mantena.

Netra, the daughter of Orlando-based billionaires Padmaja and Rama Raju Mantena, got married to Superorder co-founder Vamsi Gadiraju in a grand and star-studded ceremony in Udaipur.
Known for her signature soft-glam aesthetic and meticulous attention to detail, Soni crafted a red lehenga look that perfectly complemented the grandeur of the royal setting while also keeping Netra’s natural elegance at the forefront. (ANI)

Personalised Skin Protocols: Why One-Size-Fits-All Skincare Doesn’t Work Anymore | Beauty News

Last Updated:November 26, 2025, 13:59 IST

Dermatologist explains why one-size-fits-all routines fail and how personalised skincare protocols are transforming skin health, longevity, and results.

No two skins are identical. Your genes, hormones, climate, stress levels, diet, sleep, and past treatments all shape how your skin behaves and ages

Personalised skin protocols are no longer a luxury; they are fast becoming the only sensible way to care for skin in 2025. As Dr Jaspreet Kour, Dermatologist, Mediglo explains, “I see every day how ‘one size fits all’ skincare fails real people with real, unique skin.”

Why one routine can’t suit all

No two skins are identical. Your genes, hormones, climate, stress levels, diet, sleep, and past treatments all shape how your skin behaves and ages. Yet, mass-market routines still group everyone into broad labels like dry, oily, or sensitive and sell the same formulas to millions.

This is why some people break out with a “universal” moisturizer, others develop irritation from popular actives, and many feel they are constantly switching products without lasting results.

Global beauty trends clearly show a move towards hyper-personalisation. Brands and clinics are using tools like AI skin analysis, lifestyle questionnaires, and even DNA-based insights to design routines tailored to an individual’s skin biology, environment, and goals.

At the same time, there is a shift from quick fixes to “skin longevity” focusing on keeping skin healthy, resilient, and functional for as long as possible, rather than simply chasing the next anti-ageing cream. This means modern skincare is becoming more medical, data-driven, and prevention-focused.

From ‘anti-ageing’ to skin longevity

The conversation has moved beyond lines and wrinkles to the deeper science of how skin ages. New research highlights the importance of protecting DNA, reducing chronic inflammation, supporting the skin barrier, and encouraging repair at a cellular level.

Evidence-based skin longevity protocols typically combine daily sun protection, antioxidants, and retinoids with targeted in-clinic treatments like lasers and energy devices, adjusted to an individual’s age, skin type, and tolerance.

Tailored personalised protocols

At Mediglo Clinic, Dr Jaspreet Kour emphasises that the starting point is never a product, it is the person. Each protocol is built after a detailed analysis of skin type, concerns (acne, pigmentation, rosacea, ageing, sensitivity), medical history, lifestyle, and local environmental stressors such as UV and pollution.

Depending on the case, a patient’s plan may integrate dermatology (for conditions like acne or eczema), medical-grade skincare, aesthetic treatments, and wellness interventions such as nutrition, sleep, and stress management to support skin from within. This integrated model aligns with global trends where dermatology, aesthetics, wellness, and longevity are converging into one continuum of care.

Why personalised care matters now

The personalised skincare market is projected to grow rapidly over the coming decade, reflecting how strongly people are demanding solutions that respect their individuality. Relying on a generic routine in this era is like wearing someone else’s prescription glasses and expecting perfect vision.

As Dr Kour shares, “My message is simple: your skin deserves a protocol as unique as you are. When skincare is personalised, it stops being trial-and-error and becomes a clear, scientific roadmap towards long-term skin health and confidence.”
