GLOWBAR AND REMEDY PARTNER TO CONNECT THE PROFESSIONAL FACIAL WITH THE AT-HOME SKINCARE ROUTINE

GLOWBAR AND REMEDY PARTNER TO CONNECT THE PROFESSIONAL FACIAL WITH THE AT-HOME SKINCARE ROUTINE

Glowbar and Dr. Muneeb Shah’s dermatologist-created skincare brand come together to pair personalized professional facials with advanced skincare, including REMEDY’s new 15% Azelaic Acid Advanced Clarifying Serum.

NEW YORK, Sept. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Today, Glowbar and REMEDY announce a new partnership designed to create a more connected skincare experience, bringing together the expertise of the professional facial with the dermatologist-created products consumers use at home.

GLOWBAR AND REMEDY PARTNER TO CONNECT THE PROFESSIONAL FACIAL WITH THE AT-HOME SKINCARE ROUTINE

From September 22 through October 22, the two brands will partner on a limited-time experience incorporating two REMEDY formulas into every customized Glowbar facial: the NEW 15% Azelaic Acid Advanced Clarifying Serum and REMEDY’s bestselling Dark Circle Reducing Advanced Eye Cream.

The partnership brings together two complementary approaches to making expert skincare more accessible. Glowbar has built its business around personalized, professional facials delivered in 30 minutes, while REMEDY was founded by double board-certified dermatologist Dr. Muneeb Shah to translate dermatological expertise into advanced, approachable skincare for everyday routines.

Together, Glowbar and REMEDY are connecting two parts of the skincare experience that are often treated separately: what happens in the treatment room and what happens after you leave it.

FROM THE DERMATOLOGIST’S OFFICE TO THE TREATMENT ROOM
A facial doesn’t end when a client leaves the treatment room. Skin has been professionally assessed and treated, making the products that follow an important part of the overall experience.

That shared insight became the starting point for the Glowbar x REMEDY partnership. Dr. Shah worked closely with Glowbar’s CEO and Founder Rachel Liverman to identify two REMEDY formulas to complement the final stage of its professional treatments, with a focus on delivering targeted results while respecting freshly treated skin.

At the center of the partnership is REMEDY’s new 15% Azelaic Acid Advanced Clarifying Serum, a formulation breakthrough that reimagines how high-strength azelaic acid can be delivered. The serum features a fully solubilized 15% azelaic acid complex in an elegant, water-light format, overcoming the grittiness, heaviness, and formulation limitations that have historically made high-concentration azelaic acid difficult to work with. Developed without propylene glycol or alcohol, the formula delivers a dermatologist-trusted ingredient at a meaningful concentration without compromising on texture, layering, or tolerability. Backed by robust in vivo and ex vivo clinical studies, the serum is designed to visibly reduce redness, fade the appearance of dark spots and improve overall skin clarity, making it particularly suited to the post-facial moment.

Story Continues

Professional treatments and at-home skincare should work together, not exist in separate worlds,” said Dr. Muneeb Shah, double board-certified dermatologist and Founder of REMEDY. “Glowbar has made professional skincare more accessible and easier to incorporate into a regular routine, which made this partnership a natural fit. Education is central to REMEDY, and this experience gives clients the opportunity to learn about the formula from a trusted esthetician, experience it during their treatment, and then understand how to incorporate it into their routine at home.”

Throughout the experience, Glowbar’s expert estheticians will bring the partnership to life through the brand’s signature customized facial experience, incorporating the REMEDY formulas based on each client’s skin and treatment while providing education around the ingredients, their benefits and why they have been selected for that point in the facial.

“We took the facial out of the derm office, and now we’re putting the derm back in the facial,” said Rachel Liverman, Founder & CEO of Glowbar. “At Glowbar, professional skincare created by experts isn’t just important to us, it’s everything. We’re driven by making professional skincare more accessible, and a partnership with Dr. Shah and REMEDY was a natural fit. I’ve been working closely with Dr. Shah to select the products that will best support Glowbar clients after their facials, so they can get even more out of their results, and I’m so excited for everyone to try it.”

How daily

How daily skincare habits can help prevent facial dark spots

Dark spots on the face are a common skincare concern, often caused by acne scars, sun exposure, hormonal changes, skin irritation, or inflammation. While many people turn to home remedies or over-the-counter creams for quick results, experts say consistent skincare and proper treatment are more effective than temporary fixes.

According to dermatology guidance, understanding the underlying cause of skin discoloration is essential before choosing a treatment. In some cases, harsh or unsuitable skincare products can worsen irritation and make pigmentation more noticeable.

Common Causes of Dark Spots

Facial pigmentation may develop after acne heals, following skin injuries or irritation, due to hormonal changes, or from prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays. Certain skincare products can also trigger inflammation that leads to discoloration.

Healthy Habits for Clearer Skin

Experts recommend cleansing the face daily to remove dirt, sweat, sunscreen, and makeup, especially before bedtime. Regular use of sunscreen is also considered one of the most effective ways to prevent existing dark spots from becoming darker and to reduce the risk of new pigmentation caused by sun exposure.

Be Cautious With Home Remedies

Traditional ingredients such as rose water, honey, and yogurt are commonly used in home skincare routines, but they may not be suitable for everyone.

Experts advise avoiding the direct application of lemon juice or other highly acidic ingredients to the face, as they can irritate the skin and potentially worsen pigmentation. If any product causes redness, burning, or irritation, it should be discontinued immediately.

When to See a Dermatologist

If dark spots continue to spread, repeatedly return, or fail to improve despite regular skincare, consulting a dermatologist is recommended.

Beyond Facials Introduces Revolutionary Volume Boost Spicule Facial : The Future of Non-Invasive Skincare

Beyond Facials Introduces Revolutionary Volume Boost Spicule Facial : The Future of Non-Invasive Skincare

Santa Monica, CA, March 30, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Beyond Facials, a skincare studio specializing in advanced non-invasive solutions for sensitive skin, is thrilled to announce the launch of the latest innovation, the Volume Boost Spicule Facial with PLLA. This groundbreaking treatment, often referred to as “Liquid Microneedling,” offers a unique approach to skincare by delivering real collagen benefits without needles or downtime.

TOV House of PLLA – spicules volumizing treatment

Sourced from the Korean professional brand this innovative treatment utilizes microscopic marine spicules – natural structures derived from marine sponges (listed as “hydrolyzed sponge”) – combined with high-performance Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA). Together, they create a potent yet gentle bio-stimulation system that triggers intense cellular regeneration for up to 72 hours, boosting collagen and elastin production while visibly improving skin volume, firmness, and clarity.

Unlike traditional microneedling, the Spicule PLLA Facial works by forming temporary micro-channels in the epidermis and upper dermis. These channels dramatically enhance the absorption of active ingredients, including a multi-peptide growth factor complex (sh-Oligopeptide-1, sh-Oligopeptide-2, sh-Polypeptide-1, sh-Polypeptide-22), PDRN (Sodium DNA), niacinamide, and Centella Asiatica derivatives. The spicules naturally dissolve and exit the skin within 12–24 hours, leaving no downtime.

Performed as a luxurious 3-step professional protocol – enzyme skin prep, spicule application with 7–10 minutes of gentle massage, and a volumizing PDRN hydrogel mask – the treatment is suitable for all skin types and delivers noticeable results after just one session: smoother, plumper, glass-smooth texture; reduced fine lines and wrinkles; improved hyperpigmentation; and a lit-from-within radiant glow.

“At Beyond Facials, we are committed to providing our clients with the most advanced and effective skincare treatments available,” said Kira Piskalova, co-founder of Beyond Facials. “The Spicule Facial represents a significant advancement in non-invasive skincare, offering our clients the benefits of collagen stimulation without the need for needles or downtime.”

Clients who have experienced the Volume Boost Spicule Facial with PLLA report noticeable improvements in skin texture and elasticity, with many praising the treatment’s ability to deliver results comparable to more invasive procedures. The absence of downtime means that clients can immediately return to their daily activities, making it an ideal choice for those with busy lifestyles.

Beyond Facials continues to set the standard in the skincare industry by combining innovation with client-centric solutions. Renowned for our exceptional Hydrafacial service quality, advanced nanoneedling protocols using the most powerful skin boosters, and our highly specialized approach tailored for sensitive skin. The introduction of the Spicules Facial is a testament to the company’s dedication to advancing skincare technology and enhancing client satisfaction.

Best pre-Eid skincare routine 2026 | how to get glowing skin for Eid | Ramadan skincare tips for dehydrated skin | natural home remedies for Eid glow | when to get a facial before Eid | Pre-Eid skincare habits that actually work during Ramadan fasting

Best pre-Eid skincare routine 2026 | how to get glowing skin for Eid | Ramadan skincare tips for dehydrated skin | natural home remedies for Eid glow | when to get a facial before Eid | Pre-Eid skincare habits that actually work during Ramadan fasting

Eid preparations usually start with outfits and accessories but somewhere along the way, skincare joins the list too. Between long fasting hours, changing weather, and late-night gatherings, the skin can feel a little tired — making a simple pre-Eid reset all the more welcome.

Hydration is key

One of the biggest challenges during Ramadan is maintaining hydration. Yes yes, it’s the age-old advice of drinking your weight, but honestly there is no better or sustainable option out there!

Long hours without water leaves your skin looking tired, which is why replenishing fluids from iftar till sehri becomes very important.

Alongside plain water, many people are now turning to chia seed water for hydration boost. Electrolyte drinks are also becoming popular, particularly for those who spend long days outside or remain active during Ramadan.

Cleansing and Gentle Exfoliation

A good cleansing routine remains the foundation of healthy skin. And no, you need not have five steps for cleaning your face. However, with warmer weather and daily exposure to dust, sweat, and pollution, cleansing twice a day with a mild face wash is a must.

Also, cleansing alone is not always enough. Gentle exfoliation two to three times a week can help the skin appear brighter and smoother. This step allows moisturisers and serums to absorb more effectively.

That said, moderation is key. Do not over-exfoliate! Especially if you don’t want an irritated skin and with micro tears.

The Truth About Glow

If miracle under-eye creams actually worked overnight, dark circles would have gone extinct by now!

Yet as Eid approaches, ads promising instant fixes seem to pop up everywhere.  Rollers, creams and serums all claiming to erase tired eyes in record time.

The truth, however, is far less dramatic.

Dark circles are often linked to genetics, lack of sleep, dehydration, stress, and dry skin. What does help here is a good moisturiser paired with a hydrating serum. Pair it up with a good sunscreen and you have the golden combination. One that can improve the under-eye area, as well as pigmentation around the mouth and chin.

Nourish From Within

Great skincare begins at the iftar table. While our iftar spread often features fried snacks, balancing them with lighter options can make a visible difference to both energy levels and skin health.

Dishes such as chickpea salad, pasta salad or yoghurt-based drinks with limited sugar are refreshing alternatives that nourish the body without overwhelming it.

Word of advice? Cut down the oil now if you don’t want to welcome a breakout right before Eid.

Time Your Facials

Thinking of getting a facial before Eid? Timing matters.

Most skincare experts recommend booking treatments 10 to 12 days before the celebration. This gives the skin enough time to settle in case of temporary redness or irritation. Trying a brand-new facial too close to Eid can be a very risky business; hardly ideal when festivities are just around the corner.

Keep It Simple

When Eid is approaching, simplicity tends to work best.

A routine built around hydration, gentle cleansing, light exfoliation and moisturising is more than enough to keep skin looking fresh and balanced. Be consistent and the glow will follow.

Dublin, Jan. 07, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The “Facial Skincare Market by Type, Gender, Distribution Channel, Countries and Companies Analysis 2025-2033” has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com’s offering.

The worldwide facial skincare market is anticipated to hit US$ 158.63 billion in 2033, increasing from US$ 98.56 billion in 2024, growing at a CAGR of 5.43% during 2025-2033. Increased consumer knowledge, the need for anti-aging, and new development in natural and organic ingredients fuel growth. Widening online retailers and customized skincare trends also significantly drive the market’s continued growth.

Growth Drivers in the Facial Skincare Market

Increasing Awareness of Skin Health

Increased awareness of the importance of skincare, most notably amongst younger age groups, is driving an increasing demand for facial skincare products. Consumers are becoming more aware of the diverse ingredients, useful routines, and long-term benefits of taking care of healthy skin. This new information is stimulating global use of everyday skincare routines, as people want to improve their complexion and overall skin health. In July 2024, The International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) and the International Society of Dermatology (ISD) have joined forces to inaugurate the first-ever World Skin Health Day (#WSHD2024).

E-commerce and Digital Influence

The explosion of online shopping channels, in addition to the ubiquitous power of social media and beauty influencers, has radically altered the trend of skincare marketing and access. Consumers can now easily browse a vast range of facial skincare products with ease from the comfort of their homes. This technology revolution enables them to compare readily, read informative peer reports, and get involved with engaging video presentations that exhibit real-world applications and outcomes. Consequently, the process of discovering and buying skincare has not only become convenient but also largely interactive and well-informed, enabling consumers to make well-rounded decisions specific to their individual requirements. October 2024, Mumbai-headquartered health-tech firm Skin Beyond Borders (SkinBB) has introduced the Skincare Metaverse. This digital platform integrates AI technology and clinical experience to make connections between consumers, clinicians, and industry players. A flagship feature, LabelLooker 1.0, is an AI-driven ingredient scanner backed by Ingredipedia, a database of personal care ingredients designed in association with VES College of Pharmacy, with more than 1,000 ingredients and growing.

Story Continues

Product Innovation and Customization

Within an ever-changing dynamic of skincare development, companies are tapping the powerful potential of active ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides, and retinoids. The synergistic effects of these high-performance ingredients help to improve skin hydration, elasticity, and cellular regeneration. Further, the development of tailored skincare solutions – carefully adapted to meet the individual’s skin type and targeted issues – has ensnared an increasingly health-conscious, technologically adept demographic. This personalized strategy not only targets specific skincare requirements but also deepens the relationship between consumers and their regimes, propelling record-breaking growth in the market. Consumers are thus empowered to go on a mission to attain their dream skin, guided by innovation ingredients and science-driven knowledge. March 2025, L’Oreal Groupe has unveiled L’Oreal Act for Dermatology, a five-year, €20 million initiative by its Dermatological Beauty Division to enhance access to skin health for the 2.1 billion individuals living with skin diseases. The initiative involves a collaboration with the WHO Foundation to aid the World Health Organization in fighting prevalent and underinvested tropical skin diseases and in bringing awareness of their global footprint to light.

Challenges Faced by the Facial Skincare Market

Excessive Competition and Market Over-Saturation

The facial skincare market is saturated with various local and international brands that have very similar products. Such saturation lends itself to very high competition, where new entrants cannot gain grounds and existing brands cannot hold their share unless they continuously innovate.

Issues Regarding Product Safety and Effectiveness

Consumers are increasingly cautious about product formulations, especially concerning chemical additives, allergens, and ethical sourcing. Negative publicity or ingredient controversies can damage brand credibility, making transparency and regulatory compliance critical challenges for manufacturers.

How to Make 5 All-Natural Facial Cleansers for Every Skin Type

How to Make 5 All-Natural Facial Cleansers for Every Skin Type

Making your own natural facial cleansers is a simple, affordable way to care for your skin without unhealthy ingredients. These homemade facial cleanser recipes use gentle, natural ingredients to cleanse effectively while supporting healthy, balanced skin. Whether you have sensitive, dry, or oily skin, these DIY natural face wash recipes are easy to make and perfect for a simple, non-toxic skincare routine.

I’ve used natural facial cleansers in my own skincare routine for years, especially simple ingredients like honey, oils, and oats. These recipes are ones I’ve personally tested and rotated depending on the season and my skin’s needs.

What Are Natural Facial Cleansers?

A natural facial cleanser is a face wash made with natural, organic, and healthy ingredients that clean the skin without synthetic fragrances, sulfates, or harsh chemicals. Homemade facial cleansers are also customizable. Whether you have oily, combination, or dry skin, you can customize your cleanser recipe for your specific needs and know that you are using healthy ingredients.

Why Choose Natural Homemade Facial Cleansers?

There are a lot of facial cleansers out there with lots of dangerous ingredients like petroleum, artificial dyes and fragrances, and propylparaben (which mimics estrogen and messes up your hormone balance whether you are male or female).  Making sure you use natural cleansers, makes sure you know exactly what your skin is absorbing.

Benefits of Using Homemade Natural Facial Cleansers

  1. Avoids harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances
  2. Gentle on sensitive and acne-prone skin
  3. Affordable and easy to make at home
  4. Customizable for dry, oily, or combination skin
  5. Supports a simple, natural skincare routine

5 DIY Natural Facial Cleansers

I sell 2 liquid facial cleansers in my shop: Anti-Aging & Acne Facial Cleansers. They are similar in ingredients, except vary by what essential oils I use in them. But if you would like to make your own, then you want to look for ingredients that will cleanse your skin without stripping it completely of its natural oils.  Here are a few recipes and methods to get you going.

Oil Cleansing Method for Dry Skin

Try oil based facial scrubs to exfoliate and cleanse your skin while deeply nourishing at the same time.  Oils are also great for removing makeup.

Using oil as a cleanser is an age old method that does not clog pores. Instead, it beautifully enters pores and pulls out all impurities. You can also try these 21 amazing beauty recipes with coconut oil.

Lemon and Rosemary Facial Sugar Scrub

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Mix the ingredients together and store in a glass jar.
  2. To use, place 1 Tbsp in your hand and massage onto your face.
  3. Rinse and pat dry.

Gentle Castile Soap Face Wash

I did not put the recipes for cold processing here, since it is a large process for those who have never made soap before. However, Castile soaps are often made from 90-100% Olive oils instead of a mixture of fats like other soaps.  This makes the soap softer, but very gentle on the skin.  A great soap to try as a beginner and wonderful for the skin.

Another Homemade Soap that is gentle on the skin is a shampoo bar, due to the great nourishing oils within the recipe and because it usually has more readily available oils that were not converted to soap by the lye.  I know many people who use shampoo bars as a shaving bar.

Also find these shampoo bars in my SHOP

Honey Cleanser for Sensitive Skin

Raw Honey is very hydrating, kills bacteria, and nourishes skin, replenishing moisture and vitamins. That’s why you will often see it being used in natural beauty recipes. Here is a simple recipe using honey to help cleanse pores.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Combine ingredients and keep in a sterile container and use a clean utensil each time.
  2. Wet face with warm water.
  3. Rub 1 tsp. between fingers and massage into face to loosen dirt and makeup.
  4. Rinse.

Oatmeal Facial Cleanser for Irritated Skin

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 1/4 cup pulverized oats

Directions:

  1. Pulverized oats in blender (optional).
  2. Mix yogurt and oats together.
  3. Keeps in fridge for one week, depending on how sterile you keep it.
  4. To use: wet face with warm water.  Rub 1 Tbsp between fingers and massage into face to loosen dirt and makeup.  Rinse.

Clay Cleanser for Oily or Acne-Prone Skin

I really like this cleanser, but some people are sensitive to using baking soda directly on their skin.  I know of a few people who cannot use homemade deodorant because of this.  So, like with every recipe on my site, test on a small area and make sure you have no reaction. Use it with just bentonite clay if needed.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Mix all three ingredients together and massage into face to remove dirt and makeup, staying away from eyes.
  2. Rinse.

Always patch test new skincare products. If you have skin conditions or allergies, consult a qualified professional before trying new skincare products. Remember, you can become allergic to literally anything as your body changes over time.

Frequently Asked Questions About Homemade Facial Cleansers

    • Yes! They work just as well as store bought cleansers but can be even more tailored to your specific needs.

Fish DNA facial injections gain popularity in the skincare trend

Fish DNA facial injections gain popularity in the skincare trend

Facial injections using fish DNA, known as polynucleotides, are becoming a popular skincare trend.

LONDON, Nov 27: Facial injections derived from fish DNA, often referred to as polynucleotides, are rapidly gaining popularity as a new skincare trend, promising skin rejuvenation, collagen production, and reduction of fine lines and acne scars.

The treatment, which uses tiny DNA fragments extracted from trout or salmon sperm, is designed to stimulate the body’s skin cells to produce collagen and elastin, essential proteins for maintaining skin structure. Patients undergoing the procedure hope for healthier, fresher, and more youthful-looking skin.

A young client at a south Manchester aesthetics clinic received injections in her lower face as part of a treatment aimed at reducing acne scarring and improving skin texture. “I just want to target those problem areas,” she said, noting that the procedure was “pretty painful” but effective in improving hydration and tightness.

Polynucleotide treatments have attracted attention after endorsements from celebrities including Charli XCX, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, and Jennifer Aniston. Charli XCX described them as “kinda like deep vitamins” for the skin, while the Kardashians reportedly incorporated the injections into their skincare routines.

Industry experts note the treatments may enhance regenerative skincare. Suzanne Mansfield of aesthetics company Dermafocus said, “All we are doing is enhancing something the body already does. That’s why these are so special.” Clinical trials suggest polynucleotides can potentially reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and scars, although effects vary from person to person.

However, the treatment comes at a high cost, with sessions ranging from £200 to £500 each and multiple treatments recommended over several weeks, followed by periodic top-ups every six to nine months.

While generally considered safe when administered by trained professionals, experts caution that the science is still developing. Consultant dermatologist Dr. John Pagliaro of Brisbane said, “We do not have good, strong data. More large-scale studies are needed to confirm safety and efficacy.”

Some patients have experienced adverse effects. Charlotte Bickley, 31, reported inflammation, skin infection, and darker under-eye circles after receiving the treatment prior to her wedding. “I would never have salmon DNA injected into my face again,” she said, highlighting risks when procedures are not performed correctly.

Regulatory oversight varies. In the UK, polynucleotides are registered as medical devices by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) but are not regulated like medicines. They are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Industry representatives warn that untested products entering the market could pose safety risks.

Dr. Sophie Shotter, president of the British College of Aesthetic Medicine, emphasized that while polynucleotides are available to provide natural-looking results, “they are not a panacea” and other established treatments may have stronger scientific backing. She added that patient responses to cosmetic treatments remain highly individual.

The trend reflects a growing interest in regenerative and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, but experts stress that consumers should carefully consider risks, efficacy, and the credentials of practitioners before undergoing treatment.

from hi-tech facial gadgets to failsafe ingredients

from hi-tech facial gadgets to failsafe ingredients

Winter is officially here, and with it comes a host of unwanted beauty woes. The return of bitterly cold, dry winds can increase your skin’s flakiness and sensitivity, particularly for dry complexions, and a compromised skin barrier can lead to dullness, redness and increased visibility of fine lines and poor texture. Luckily, there are a number of skincare swaps you can introduce to prepare your skin for colder temperatures and harsh environmental aggressors.

From introducing an innovative, multi-tasking skincare gadget to boost circulation and relieve puffiness, to adding cocooning ingredients like peptides and ceramides to your routine, these are the best winter skincare switch-ups to make now for glowing skin all year long.

Introduce a gadget to upgrade your skincare

Shark Beauty

Shifting seasons and shorter days can have a harsh impact on your sleep routine, leading to unwanted puffiness and eye bags. An innovative sculpting gadget can be the ultimate antidote.

Shark’s FacialPro Glow, above, is a prime example. It comes with two attachments, including the DePuffi, which delivers instant contrast therapy. The cool setting de-puffs under eyes and helps contour the face, while the warm setting can help boost circulation and soothe facial stress. The second attachment uses water and suction to extract impurities, dirt and oil, and delivers up to +128% hydration in a single use*, helping you to feel as if you’ve just stepped out of a high-end treatment room. Quick and easy to use (a full treatment takes 10 minutes), it’s an incredible multi-tasking tool that’s easy to incorporate into your routine.

Don’t neglect hydration

After using the exfoliating attachment on your FacialPro Glow, fill the device’s tank with Shark Beauty’s Hydro Infuse formulation, which contains peptides and nano-hyaluronic acid. Deeply hydrating, it will leave your skin feeling nourished and bouncy.

As for your other products, avoiding drying, stripping cleansers is essential for protecting your skin barrier, while introducing hydrating, reparative ingredients into your routine is a must. Of all the viral buzzwords, these are the fail-safe ingredients that we’re reaching for the most.

Hyaluronic acid

One of the most popular hydrating ingredients, thanks to its lightweight texture and plumping, moisturising benefits.

Peptides

Another barrier-protecting favourite. They support collagen production, smooth the appearance of fine lines, and visibly firm sagging skin. Each formula has a slightly different purpose, so research before introducing one into your routine. Rhode’s Peptide Glazing Fluid adds a lightweight glow as it plumps your complexion, while Naturium Multi-Peptide Advanced Serum promotes elasticity and improves fine lines.

Ceramides

These are clever lipids that support and repair your skin’s barrier, prevent water loss and shield against pollution and bacteria.

Remember: hydration, barrier repair and sun protection are the perfect formula for a glowing and resilient skin barrier. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, consult a dermatologist before making dramatic changes, especially if your skin is sensitive or reactive.

Update your sun-protection formula

As sunny days become sparser, it can be tempting to skip the SPF step you remained true to all summer long. Don’t. Dermatologists widely agree that sun protection should be evergreen in your routine, come rain or shine. This doesn’t mean you can’t adjust your SPF to suit autumn’s conditions, though.

Where lightweight serum sunscreens and water-based SPF creams all serve a purpose in summer, you may want to opt for richer formulas that will lock in moisture as the climate becomes drier. For example, CeraVe AM Facial Moisturising Lotion SPF50, which contains three essential ceramides to protect your skin barrier, or Medik8 Advanced Day Total Protect SPF30, which also includes hydrating moringa seed extract and soothing carnosine.

While SPF make-up is great for topping up your protection, using a base sunscreen is essential. It’s highly unlikely that you would apply enough SPF foundation or blusher to provide adequate protection against harsh UV rays on its own.

TikTok creators are applying their own period blood on their faces as a perceived glow-inducing mask. Influencers are positioning it as natural, potent, and regenerative. The truth is far more complicated. As the hype escalates, consumers need grounded information to cut through the noise and protect their skin health.

Why the menstrual facial trend gained traction

TikTok thrives on novelty-driven virality, and the menstrual facial checks every box. It is raw, visually arresting, and positioned as a secret wellness ritual. For young viewers navigating a crowded skincare landscape, anything marketed as natural often carries instant appeal.
There is also a cultural shift where more creators are dismantling stigma around periods. While this conversation is important, blending it with unverified skincare experiments is a slippery slope. Many users adopt the trend without understanding the biological composition of menstrual blood or the risks of applying it to the skin. The result is a perfect storm where empowerment messaging merges with misinformation.

What menstrual blood contains

Contrary to viral claims, menstrual blood is not simply blood. It is a mixture of blood, vaginal secretions, uterine tissue, bacteria, and cellular debris. It is not sterile. Dermatologists emphasise that anything containing bacteria or pathogens should never be introduced to the skin barrier.

Supporters argue that menstrual blood contains stem cells and growth factors. However, the presence of these elements does not translate into topical skincare benefits. There is no evidence that applying menstrual fluid externally supports collagen regeneration, reduces acne, or accelerates healing. These claims are speculative, not clinically validated.

Why dermatologists are sounding the alarm

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in its Bloodborne Infectious Diseases-Occupational Safety and Health Topics (NOISH) page, states that” Blood and certain body fluids can contain bloodborne pathogens, including hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Exposure to these fluids can pose a transmission risk”.In other words, human blood is not a beauty ingredient; it is a biohazard unless handled with medical-grade precautions. The World Health Organisation (WHO), in its Blood Safety guidance, reinforces the same standard: ‘Safe handling of blood and body fluids is central to infection prevention and control. Policies and practices are required to reduce the risk of transmission of bloodborne pathogensThere is also a strong biohazard element. Bodily fluids can transmit harmful microbes. Even one’s own menstrual fluid can become contaminated once outside the body. This is why dermatology protocols use sterile environments for any procedure involving biological materials. Using menstrual blood at home does not meet any safety standards and introduces unnecessary risk.

The psychology behind shock value skincare

The rise of shock skincare reflects how the digital attention economy is evolving. Outlandish rituals outperform traditional beauty content because they provoke reactions. This pushes creators to escalate extremes to stay relevant. Consumers, especially younger ones, often confuse virality with legitimacy. A trend that garners millions of views appears credible by volume alone, even when it is scientifically unsound.

This behaviour mirrors previous online fads such as toothpaste acne masks, sunscreen contouring, and lemon juice brightening. All these trended for their visual impact rather than efficacy. The menstrual facial is simply the latest entrant in this cycle of spectacle over science.

What the trend reveals about misinformation in beauty

The menstrual facial wave highlights a broader industry issue. Skincare consumers are drowning in DIY advice, home remedies, and pseudo-science disguised as empowerment. Social media accelerates this misinformation at scale. Users rarely cross-check claims with qualified experts. When creators use charged language like natural, organic, or holistic, they easily bypass scrutiny.

Platforms are now facing pressure to regulate unverified health and beauty content. Dermatologists, meanwhile, are calling for stronger public literacy around ingredients, hygiene, and safety protocols.

Science-backed alternatives to achieve real skin benefits

Instead of chasing shock trends, consumers can invest in proven and safe methods to support skin health. These include:

  • Professional-grade exfoliation through AHAs or BHAs for glowing skin
  • Clinically validated ingredients like retinol, niacinamide, and vitamin C for rejuvenation
  • Hyaluronic acid serums for hydration
  • Peptide based formulations for anti-ageing support
  • Regular SPF use for protection

These methods are evidence-driven and aligned with dermatology standards. They deliver real results without compromising safety.

The menstrual facial trend may be visually sensational, but it does not translate into real beauty benefits. Skincare should be built on scientific credibility, not shock factor. As consumers become more discerning, they must adopt a critical mindset when engaging with wellness trends online. Viral does not equal valid.

What the beauty community needs today is transparency, accuracy, and responsible experimentation. The menstrual facial offers none of these. Instead of glorifying unverified hacks, the future of skincare lies in informed choices backed by research and guided by experts.
