Bianca de Vera talks skincare inside Bahay ni Kuya, confidence, and the surprising body part she says people often neglect, as she launches her Silka Green Papaya campaign.

How Bianca de Vera solved beauty concerns inside Bahay ni Kuya

Confidence and care are up and center for actress and Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition alum Bianca de Vera.

She is officially introduced as the newest face of Silka Green Papaya Soap on November 5, 2025, at Novotel Manila Araneta City.

Bianca’s fresh chapter with Silka

For Bianca, the partnership marks a meaningful first in her career.

“It’s my first big commercial and print shoot,” she says.

“Every moment was memorable because it was a two-day shoot and I learned so much—with the guidance of Direk and my whole Silka family.

“I’m really, really proud to represent something I personally use.”

The campaign celebrates confidence that comes from self-care, a message Bianca naturally embodies.

“Well of course, natural is always best,” she begin.

“But for me, talagang naniniwala ako na do whatever makes you feel confident.

“For me, there’s no judgment naman kung ano man ang gusto mong gawin because it’s your choice, it’s your body, so ayun.

“So if it’s between balancing the both of them, I guess just do whatever makes you confident.”

Beauty as self-expression

When asked whether she’s magastos with skinncare, Bianca laughed before admitting it’s one of her happy indulgences.

“Guilty pleasure ko talaga siya,” she reveals.

“I like feeling confident. Hindi lang dahil GGSS [Gandang-ganda Sa Sarili] ako or because of…parang hindi naman siguro mali sa isang babaeng na gusto nila maging maganda all the time.

“Kasi ano yun, e, parte yun ng pagiging isang babae and we don’t do it for other people. We do it for ourselves. So yeah, I would say yes and I’m proud of it.”

That balance between natural beauty and experimentation, she adds, is all about intention.

“Siyempre, ang goal naman natin is maging, uh, paganda nang paganda like, di ba? To age like fine wine.

“As for beauty goals, siguro gusto ko lang talagang mag-age gracefully, and of course I do that by using Silka Green Papaya so yeah.

“Do whatever makes you feel beautiful. Confidence looks different for everyone.”

Inside the PBB house

Before, her perspective on beauty and confidence wasn’t always this polished.

Before entering Pinoy Big Brother, Bianca admits she was at one of the lowest points of her life.

“I could not find myself. I found myself really broken,” she tells PEP during the Q&A session.

“And, I found a lot of people really took my time and took me for granted.

“I gave a lot of myself to other people who maybe didn’t deserve, or maybe I was just at the wrong place, at the wrong time.

“I would say nasira yung confidence ko.

“How did I overcome it? Honestly, it was hard. Sometimes, you would just wish na gigising ka nalang and you gusto mo nalang na bumalik talaga yung confidence mo.

“How did I do it? I took care of myself.”

Inside the house, she had no choice but to confront herself without distractions.

“I made sure na I made time with myself, and a big part of it was really my PBB journey because in PBB, we really didn’t have any outlets.

“We only had to face ourselves.

“So, I always say naman na malaki din talaga yung utang na loob ko sa PBB and kay Kuya for bringing back my confiddence, too.”

When it comes to self-care, limited resources inside Bahay ni Kuya also meant simplifying her beauty routine to the basics.

“I used to wash my face a lot and, other than that, SPF.

“SPF is your hero forever really kasi, not a lot of people know this, but mainit kasi sa loob lalo doon sa, sa garden area.”

Building confidence from care

Those early experiences shaped her current mindset toward skin care—especially when it comes to parts of the body that don’t always get attention.

When asked which body part tends to be the most neglected, Bianca pauses before confessing with a laugh.

“The back! It’s so hard to reach, but it’s still important,” she says with a giggle.

“It’s hygiene, and you never know when someone might see it, so take care of every part of your body.”

She reveals that she used to struggle with back-ne during her PBB days.

“Inside the house, we didn’t have much. So when I got out, one of the first things I reached for was Silka. Now my back is smooth again!”

Protein_Cinnamon_Rolls

Homemade Protein Cinnamon Rolls Recipe (With Greek Yogurt)

There’s something so magical about pulling some warm cinnamon rolls from the oven on a chilly morning. These high protein cinnamon rolls are an easy way to get all the magic, without all of the sugar or junky ingredients. My kids love these and because they have no yeast, they’re ready in less than an hour!

More people are focusing on protein now because of its benefits for building and maintaining muscle. You’ll find plenty of new protein bars on the market in tons of flavors and more brands are adding protein to various foods. While I’m all for more protein, the quality matters. Ingredients like GMO soy protein or whey protein from CAFO cattle may do more harm than good.

While we’re probably a ways off from buying healthy high protein cinnamon rolls in a tube at the grocery store, you can easily make them at home!

Healthy Cinnamon Rolls

So, are cinnamon rolls healthy? They’re certainly not in the same category as pasture raised meats or organic veggies, but it is possible to make a healthier version of cinnamon rolls. Instead of gobs of sugar these protein cinnamon rolls are naturally sweetened with coconut sugar and raw honey. No sugar cinnamon roll recipes usually call for sugar alcohols that can cause digestive issues for many people. That’s not what you’ll find here, but they’re still mildly sweet and absolutely delicious.

Protein Cinnamon Roll Ingredients

Now that my Hashimotos is gone and I’m able to eat a wider variety of healthy foods, I’ll eat gluten on occasion. I still avoid bleached, enriched, glyphosate sprayed conventional flour, but sometimes I pull out organic flour for baking. You can easily make these protein cinnamon rolls gluten free though with a gluten free flour blend. Just be sure to choose one that has clean ingredients, like this one.

Greek yogurt is one of the main ingredients in the creamy frosting and to gives the rolls a protein boost. If you need dairy free, then a really thick coconut milk yogurt could work, but I haven’t personally tried it.

Instead of making cottage cheese or whey protein cinnamon rolls, I used a different version of protein for these. I used Equip Prime protein which is made from beef protein, collagen, and gelatin. It’s a nose to tail protein source, but it’s not gritty or beefy tasting. If you don’t have any on hand, then collagen powder will also work.

Protein Cinnamon Rolls with Greek Yogurt

Protein Cinnamon Roll Dough

Greek Yogurt Frosting

  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt (whole milk for best texture)
  • 2 TBSP raw honey (or to taste)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, protein powder, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and coconut sugar.

  • Add the Greek yogurt and melted coconut oil, then stir until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels too dry, add milk or water a tablespoon at a time until it comes together.

  • Knead gently on a floured surface for 1–2 minutes, just until smooth.

  • Roll the dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick. Spread softened butter evenly over the surface.

  • In a small bowl, mix the coconut sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the dough.

  • Roll it up tightly into a log and slice into 8 even rolls.

  • Place the rolls in a greased 8×8-inch baking dish or parchment-lined skillet. Bake at 350°F for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool slightly before frosting.

  • In a medium bowl or stand mixer bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add Greek yogurt, honey, vanilla, salt, and (optional) protein powder. Mix until thick and creamy. Spread generously over the warm, but not hot rolls.

What is menstrual masking? The potentially risky new beauty trend

What is menstrual masking? The potentially risky new beauty trend

In the ever-evolving world of beauty trends, few have sparked as much debate – and discomfort – as “menstrual masking”. This is the practice of applying menstrual blood to the skin, usually the face, as a form of DIY skincare.

Popularised on social media, hashtags such as #periodfacemask have amassed billions of views. In most videos, users apply menstrual blood for a few minutes before rinsing it off. There’s no clear agreement on how much blood to use or how long to leave it on. Some call the practice healing or empowering, describing it as a spiritual ritual that connects them to their bodies and ancestral femininity. But what does the science say?

Advocates of menstrual masking often argue that period blood contains stem cells, cytokines and proteins that could rejuvenate the skin. There is currently no clinical evidence to support using menstrual blood as a topical skincare treatment. However, its biological composition has shown potential in medical research.

A study found that plasma derived from menstrual fluid could significantly enhance wound healing. In laboratory tests, wounds treated with menstrual plasma showed 100% repair within 24 hours compared with 40% using regular blood plasma. This remarkable regeneration is thought to be linked to the unique proteins and bioactive molecules in menstrual fluid: the same substances that allow the uterus to rebuild itself every month.

Researchers are now exploring whether synthetic menstrual fluid could help treat chronic wounds.

Stem cell research has also turned attention to menstrual blood–derived stem cells, or MenSCs. These cells grow easily and can develop into many different cell types. Studies show that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from various sources can help heal skin by boosting collagen, reducing wrinkles and releasing growth factors that repair damage caused by burns, UV exposure or wounds. Because they are versatile and appear safe, MenSCs are seen as a promising option for developing medical treatments to regenerate skin and slow photoaging: the premature aging caused by long-term sun exposure.

Not the same as a “vampire facial”

Some menstrual masking advocates liken the practice to the so-called “vampire facial”: a cosmetic procedure popularised by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian. Vampire facials use platelet-rich plasma (PRP) extracted from a patient’s own blood and injected into the face.

But experts caution against comparing PRP with menstrual blood. Menstrual fluid is a complex mixture of blood, sloughed-off endometrial tissue (the uterine lining), vaginal secretions, hormones and proteins. As it passes through the vaginal canal, it can pick up bacteria and fungi, including Staphylococcus aureus, a common microbe that normally lives on the skin but can cause infections if it enters cuts or pores. There’s also a risk that sexually transmitted infections (STIs) could be transferred to the skin.

PRP, by contrast, is prepared under sterile conditions. During PRP treatment, a small amount of blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to separate out the platelet-rich layer, which is then injected into the skin using fine needles. Some clinicians also add filler for faster cosmetic results. The procedure can cost thousands; unlike menstrual masking, which is free and easily accessible.

“Body-based” beauty

Menstrual masking isn’t the only unconventional beauty practice involving bodily fluids. “Urine therapy,” the application of urine to the skin, has roots in Ayurvedic medicine and was once believed to detoxify the body and cure ailments. Some modern advocates even claim benefits for acne or eczema, although these claims lack scientific support.

While urine does contain urea – a compound used in some moisturisers – the urea found in urine is far less concentrated and not the same as the purified, synthetic form used in skincare products. The idea that raw urine or menstrual blood could safely replace clinical-grade cosmetic ingredients is not supported by dermatological evidence.

Menstrual masking sits at the intersection of body positivity, cultural ritual and pseudoscience. For some, it’s a celebration of the menstrual cycle and a rejection of stigma. For others, it’s an unproven and potentially risky beauty trend.

The biological richness of menstrual blood is undeniable, but its safe and effective use belongs in controlled medical research – not in DIY skincare routines. As with many viral health trends, it’s vital to distinguish between symbolism and science. Menstrual masking may feel empowering, but from a dermatological perspective, it’s a practice best left to personal belief rather than the bathroom mirror.

Trinny Woodall’s blunt warning to teens over TikTok skincare trends

Trinny Woodall’s blunt warning to teens over TikTok skincare trends

Trinny Woodall has a clear message for the TikTok skincare generation – and it’s not sugar-coated. ‘It’s challenging educating kids who are getting different advice through social media channels, such as TikTok, where trends supersede looking after skin health,’ she tells WH.

Her biggest concern is teens damaging their skin before it’s even fully formed. ‘If you’re putting aggressive ingredients on your skin in your early teens, it won’t form properly and you’ll always have a broken skin barrier,’ she warns.

Trinny knows what she’s talking about. ‘I started my skincare journey when I was about 13 and I had really bad acne till I was 30, so it made me very inquisitive to understand what skincare worked and what didn’t.’ Her obsession with ingredients has shaped her beauty empire – and her no-nonsense approach to educating younger consumers.

But harsh acids aren’t the only issue worrying her. ‘I find that with 28- to 35-year-olds, they know they should use SPF. They got that message. We taught them that message,’ she says. ‘But somehow that generation below, it’s like they don’t give a sh*t, and it scares me. I have a friend of mine in hospital who will die in the next few days from a skin cancer. And our responsibility is to say: SPF is integral to your skin health and to your health.’

Her advice is simple, but serious: skip the online fads, protect your skin barrier, and never underestimate sunscreen.

Fall Makeup Trends

Fall Makeup Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Virginia Tech chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

I love it when the weather starts to get a little cooler, and with the change always comes a new aesthetic. This season, toasty makeup is all the rage. With lots of browns and autumn colors used, this is what I have seen all over TikTok and Pinterest for tips on how to achieve the ultimate fall look.

Burgundy lips

It should come as no surprise that the “it” lip color of the season matches the leaves when they start to fall. You can make it slightly more subtle by only using a burgundy lip liner or go all out and find the perfect matching lipstick. I personally enjoy a good sparkly gloss over top to finish the lip off. The statement lip is gorgeous to go with your pumpkin spice latte.

Smoky eyeliner

Drawing attention to the eyes is also in this season. A brown or gray is great for the middle of the eye. Then, get darker shades as you go out and blend away to create that smoky effect. Adding a wing with your favorite eyeliner will complete this look. I love this one since you can have fun with it. The eyeshadow does not have to be perfect and it even looks better when it is a little messy. You can use eyeliner or shadow sticks to switch it up.

Light complexion

I think the base look for fall is somewhere in between matte and dewy. Skin prep is still super important, so make sure to have your moisturizer on and don’t forget the sunscreen, even if it is getting cooler out. From what I have seen, a skin tint or light foundation seems to be what most people are using to start their makeup look off. Whatever amount of coverage you prefer will be perfect for your new fall routine.

Toasted bronzer/ bronzed look

Bronzer might be the most important step in the fall toasty look going around the internet. So, make sure to pack it on! Take your favorite bronzer and layer it up. You can put it all over your cheekbones, forehead, jawline, and even take it on to your eyes a little. This is perfect for achieving that warm, bronzed look.

Terracotta blush

I personally think that blush is one of the best steps in any makeup routine. Over the summer, there were a few trending shades of pink. For the fall, however, we are seeing more of this terracotta or red or burgundy shade. Layer on as much as you like. I love using lots of blush in my routine.

Seeing what trends are new and which come back from different years is one thing that I adore about the changing seasons. I am a big fan of everything I have seen online so far and will definitely be giving all the steps a try. So, pick up your makeup brushes and start getting creative to try out your new fall-inspired makeup look.
