Operators around the world are prioritising in-room wellness

Operators around the world are prioritising in-room wellness

A raft of operators have been in touch with Spa Business recently, to tell us how they are extending the spa experience by introducing in-room wellness offerings, such supercharged wellness mini-bar menus.

From self-guided facial treatment videos, skincare in minibars and rented equipment, hotels around the world are finding new ways to improve the guest experience and create revenue.

This is not to say heavily salted nuts and a sugar-laden drink have disappeared entirely from mini-bars, but operators are definitely being more imaginative in how they maximise wellness spending.

Early adopters, known for introducing in-room wellness features, include Kerzner International’s SIRO hotel brand, which offers fitness equipment, workout videos and various bedding options for optimum sleeping conditions.

Newer offerings are moving beyond on-demand fitness videos by boosting in-room recovery and wellness rituals.

Recovery

Casa Palmero at Pebble Beach, a 24-key resort in California, US, has launched a wellness mini bar menu of rentable recovery products.

Available to borrow for 24 hours at a time, equipment on the menu is by Hyperice, including the brand’s Normatec leg compression boots, the Venom 2 heat and massage wraps, the Hypervolt 2 percussion massager and the Hyperice X contrast therapy devices for knees and shoulders.

The menu also offers access to infrared and PEMF therapies in the form of sauna blankets and infrared mats by HigherDOSE.

Additional sleep-supporting products are available, such as melatonin-infused teas, CBD soaks and gummies, plus eye masks and socks by luxury lifestyle brand Kashwére.

Hyatt property, Alila Marea Beach Resort in Encinitas, US, has also recently introduced molecular hydrogen water bottles, light masks and supplement drops in partnership with rejuvenation technology company Lumati.

The 130-key resort’s Spa Alila added Lumati’s Recharge Portal to one of its treatment rooms recently, offering short, stackable longevity treatments and the in-room extras are seen as a way to extend the experience for busy guests.

Skincare and fragrance

Darko Vasic, regional spa and wellness director for EMEA at Karisma Hotels and Resorts, spoke about adding skincare products to minibars at the Wellness Hospitality Conference in Milan, Italy, at the end of last year.

He said adding 111Skin eye patches and products by fragrance manufacturer Amouage to mini bars at properties in Karisma’s portfolio – along with a retail upselling strategy – has generated sales.

Another example is Low Wood Bay Resort and Spa in the UK’s Lake District, which has extended its ESPA-branded spa experience into guestrooms during spa-break stays worth £340 (US$432, €398) per person, per night.

The property has recorded a video of the spa’s head therapist, guiding guests in a facial ritual, called The Guided Glow. The three-minute and thirty-second video is accessible by a QR code found in the room and is accompanied by travel-sized ESPA products.

Annabel Berry, product development and training manager for Low Wood Bay’s owning and operating company, English Lakes, told Spa Business: “The Guided Glow has been introduced as a way to extend the spa experience beyond our treatment rooms and into the quiet comfort of our guests’ own space.

“We wanted to create a calming ritual that helps guests slow down, settle in, and begin their wellness journey the moment they arrive,” added Berry. “By introducing this simple five‑step guided ritual, we’re encouraging guests to try something new and enjoy a moment of self‑care in the comfort of their room and it offers a gentle introduction to our beautiful ESPA products.”

Ramadan 2026: Skincare mistakes to avoid while fasting, experts advise

Ramadan 2026: Skincare mistakes to avoid while fasting, experts advise

Between long fasting hours, late nights, and packed iftar plans, Ramadan often brings a shift not just in routine, but in how your skin looks and feels. Dryness, dullness, chapped lips, dark circles, puffiness, and increased sensitivity are common concerns that arise as sleep patterns change and daytime hydration levels decrease.

While these changes are normal, dermatologists and skincare experts noted that a few everyday habits can exacerbate them. The key during Ramadan is not to do more, but to simplify your routine and focus on hydration, gentle care, and protecting the skin barrier.

Dr Malaz Eldirdiry, specialist dermatologist at Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi, explained that reduced fluid intake during the day can affect the skin’s appearance and comfort.

“Dehydration can lead to dryness and dullness, and may worsen conditions like eczema or sensitive skin,” she said. “But when hydration and nutrition are well managed after iftar, fasting itself can have neutral or even positive effects, including better oil balance and, in some cases, improvement in acne.”

Sleep changes also play a role. Skincare professionals note that late nights, early suhoor wake-ups, and fragmented sleep can disrupt the skin’s natural day-night rhythm. During the day, the skin focuses on protection, while at night it shifts into repair mode. When this cycle is disturbed, it can lead to slower healing, lingering inflammation, puffiness, and a tired-looking complexion.

If your skin has been looking a little off this month, here are some common Ramadan skincare mistakes to avoid.

Washing your face too often

It’s tempting to keep cleansing throughout the day to feel fresh, but overwashing can do more harm than good.

“Over cleansing or using harsh soaps can damage the skin barrier, leading to increased dryness, irritation, and even rebound oil production,” Dr. Eldirdiry said. “A gentle cleanser twice a day, morning and night, is usually enough during Ramadan.”

Trying to scrub away dullness

When skin looks tired, the instinct is often to exfoliate more, especially in the final days of Ramadan as Eid approaches.

However, using scrubs, acids, or peels too frequently can weaken the skin barrier and trigger redness, sensitivity, or pigmentation. Instead of chasing instant brightness, experts recommend reducing exfoliation and focusing on hydration to restore the skin’s natural glow.

Using strong activities as usual

Skin tends to be more reactive during Ramadan, which means powerful ingredients may need to be used less often. Retinol, strong exfoliating acids, high strength lightening creams, and alcohol heavy toners can all increase dryness and irritation when the skin is already dehydrated.

Rather than stopping them completely, spacing out their use and monitoring how your skin responds can help prevent flare-ups.

Forgetting barrier repair and hydration

“One of the biggest mistakes is trying to fix dehydration with aggressive treatments instead of supporting the skin barrier,” Dr. Eldirdiry said.

A simple Ramadan routine works best:

·       Gentle cleanser morning and night

·       Hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid or glycerin

·       Moisturiser and sunscreen during the day

·       A richer cream or sleeping mask after iftar

Booking treatments at the wrong time

If you’re planning facials or laser sessions during Ramadan, timing matters. Hydrating facials and gentle treatments are generally well tolerated, but more intensive procedures may feel uncomfortable when the body is dehydrated.

Aesthetic expert Ahmed Nhaban recommends scheduling treatments two to three hours after iftar, once the body has been rehydrated and nourished. Many clinics across the UAE report that evening appointments become the most requested during Ramadan for this reason.

Leaving your Eid prep too late

If you’re planning a pre-Eid glow-up, dermatologists suggest booking early. Clinics typically see a surge in the final weeks of Ramadan, with popular requests including skin boosters, hydrating treatments, laser hair removal, and upper face Botox.

Botox, in particular, should ideally be administered around 10 to 14 days before Eid to allow the full effect to take hold.

When your sleep schedule changes, your skin feels it too

Late nights, early suhoor wake-ups, and broken sleep during Ramadan don’t just affect energy levels; they can also disrupt the skin’s natural rhythm.

According to skincare professionals at Circadia, the globally trusted professional skincare brand rooted in chronobiology and circadian science, the skin follows its own internal clock. During the day, it focuses on protection against environmental stress, while at night it shifts into repair mode, boosting cell turnover, collagen production, and barrier recovery.

When sleep patterns change, this repair phase may be affected, leading to common Ramadan concerns such as dullness, dehydration, puffiness, dark circles, breakouts, and slower healing.

Experts say adjusting skincare to match this shift can help the skin stay balanced, with a focus on protection and hydration during the day and supporting repair in the evening.
Adjust your routine to your Ramadan rhythm

Skincare specialists recommend thinking about your routine in two phases:

After suhoor or early morning

·       Focus on lightweight hydration

·       Use antioxidants such as Vitamin C

·       Always apply sunscreen

·       Choose products that strengthen the skin barrier to reduce moisture loss

After iftar and before sleep

·       This is the best time for richer products and repair focused care

·       Use soothing or barrier-restoring formulas

·       Add targeted eye care to help with puffiness and dark circles

·       Avoid aggressive treatments if the skin feels stressed or sensitised

They also recommend prioritising hydration focused ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and peptides, avoiding over-exfoliation, and choosing gentle, oxygen boosting facials if opting for professional treatments.

Natural exfoliant for glowing skin

African palm kernel ashes serve as an excellent natural exfoliant. When mixed with water or other natural ingredients, they can be used to make a gentle scrub.
This scrub helps remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. Regular exfoliation can improve your skin texture.

The Role of Castor Oil in Anti-Aging Skincare

As we age, maintaining youthful, healthy skin is a priority for many. While the beauty industry offers countless creams, serums, and treatments, natural remedies have gained popularity due to their safety and effectiveness. Among these, castor oil has emerged as a powerful ingredient in anti-aging skincare routines. Packed with nourishing compounds, castor oil can help hydrate, repair, and rejuvenate the skin. In this article, we’ll explore the role of castor oil in anti-aging skincare, its benefits, and practical ways to add it into your routine.

What is Castor Oil?

Castor oil is a vegetable oil that is thick extracted from the seeds of the Ricinus communis plant. It is rich in ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid known for its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. For centuries, castor oil has been used in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda and African natural remedies for its healing, moisturizing, and protective benefits.

Companies like The GoodBye Company now offer high-quality, pure castor oil that can be safely used in daily skincare routines, providing a natural alternative to chemical-laden anti-aging products.

Why Castor Oil is Effective for Anti-Aging

1. Deep Moisturization

One of the leading causes of premature aging is dry, dehydrated skin. Castor oil is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the environment into the skin and locks it in. Regular hydration helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving the skin a plump, youthful look.

2. Promotes Collagen Production

While research is ongoing, some studies suggest that fatty acids in castor oil can stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, proteins responsible for skin elasticity and firmness. By supporting these structural components, castor oil may help slow down sagging and maintain skin suppleness.

3. Antioxidant Protection

Castor oil contains antioxidants that fight free radicals—unstable molecules that contribute to aging and damage from environmental stressors like pollution and UV radiation. Antioxidants help protect the skin from oxidative stress, which is a major factor in the formation of wrinkles and age spots.

4. Anti-Inflammatory Benefits

Ricinoleic acid in castor oil has natural anti-inflammatory properties that can calm irritated or sensitive skin. Reducing inflammation helps minimize redness and puffiness, creating a smoother, more even skin tone.

5. Heals and Repairs Skin

Castor oil is known for its regenerative properties. It promotes the healing of damaged skin, improves texture, and helps reduce the appearance of scars, fine lines, and age spots. Its emollient properties also create a protective barrier that shields the skin from external irritants.

How to Use Castor Oil in Anti-Aging Skincare

1. Nighttime Facial Serum

Mix a few drops of castor oil with a lighter carrier oil like jojoba or almond oil. Apply this mixture to your face before bedtime. The oil will deeply hydrate your skin while you sleep, helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

2. Eye Area Treatment

Castor oil is gentle enough to be applied around the eyes to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and puffiness. Dab a small amount on the outer corners of the eyes and gently massage before bedtime.

3. DIY Anti-Aging Masks

Combine castor oil with natural ingredients like honey, aloe vera, or avocado to create a nourishing facial mask. Apply for 15–20 minutes once or twice a week to boost hydration and improve skin elasticity.

4. Lip Care

The delicate skin on your lips can show signs of aging quickly. Apply a thin layer of castor oil to moisturize and soften lips, preventing dryness and fine lines.

5. Body Moisturizer

Castor oil can also be used on dry areas such as elbows, knees, and hands, which often show early signs of aging. Regular use helps maintain smooth, youthful skin across the body.

Precautions and Tips

  • Patch Test First: Apply a small amount on your inner arm to ensure you are not allergic.
  • Use Sparingly: A few drops go a long way; overuse can leave the skin greasy.
  • Combine with Other Oils: Because castor oil is thick, mixing it with lighter oils improves absorption and feel.
  • Choose High-Quality Oil: Use pure, cold-pressed castor oil from reputable brands for the best results.

Read the article: Top Skin Care Tips as You Age

Conclusion

Castor oil is a natural, versatile ingredient that offers multiple benefits for anti-aging skincare. Its ability to deeply moisturize, promote collagen production, and protect against oxidative stress makes it an excellent choice for those seeking to maintain youthful, healthy skin.

While castor oil is not a magical solution that completely reverses aging, consistent use as part of a balanced skincare routine can reduce the appearance of fine lines, improve skin texture, and create a radiant, youthful glow. For anyone interested in natural anti-aging remedies, incorporating high-quality castor oil into your regimen is both safe and effective.

By sourcing natural ingredients such as castor oil from trusted suppliers, you can enjoy healthier, more resilient skin while avoiding harsh chemicals commonly found in conventional anti-aging products.

Homemade Healthy Hot Chocolate

We don’t get much snow since we moved (or any!), but back in the day the kids loved playing outside for hours when it snowed. There’s something almost sacred about coming in from the cold to a mug of steaming cocoa topped with whipped cream. However, I wanted to find an alternative to conventional hot cocoa mix loaded with refined sugar and powdered milk.

So I set out to create a healthy, simple, and completely homemade version that tastes even richer than what I grew up with. This isn’t just another hot chocolate mix recipe, it’s real food comfort in a mug. And once you know how to make good hot chocolate, the packets just don’t taste the same.

Thanks to this recipe, I’m always happy to oblige when my kids ask for cocoa after hours outside. It’s become our version of the classic childhood ritual. And this one is made with nourishing hot chocolate ingredients I feel good about serving.

The Best Hot Chocolate Recipe (Option for Dairy Free)

This hot chocolate combines cocoa powder, healthy fats, warming spices, and natural sweeteners for a cozy cup of cocoa. You can use organic whole milk for a traditional richness, or swap in coconut or almond milk for a dairy-free version. Coconut milk is higher in fat to make it even creamier. Gelatin helps thicken and adds hair, nail, and gut health benefits.

Instead of refined white or brown sugar, I prefer maple syrup or honey. They add natural sweetness, minerals, and antioxidants.  A pinch of sea salt enhances the chocolate flavor, and a splash of vanilla extract rounds everything out beautifully. Sometimes I’ll shave in a bit of dark chocolate for extra richness, but this recipe works perfectly with cocoa powder and is delicious, no chocolate chips required.

The secret to good hot chocolate is quality chocolate and healthy fats. Adding butter or coconut oil creates that velvety texture most people associate with melted milk chocolate, without the processed ingredients. And if you need to avoid dairy, coconut milk or coconut oil still adds enough fat to recreate the right texture.

Customizations and Easy Shortcuts

This recipe is incredibly flexible. Prefer it sweeter? Add a touch more maple syrup or raw honey. Want it ultra-rich? Stir in a little chopped dark chocolate at the end. For a classic finish, top with real-food whipped cream.

If you grew up on instant packets, this will taste deeper and more complex thanks to real cocoa powder, healthy fats, and that pinch of sea salt. Sea salt helps balance out the sweetness and it reduces any bitterness in the cocoa. Learning how to make good hot chocolate is surprisingly simple.

This can be easily customized to your preferences and I’d love to hear your variations in the comments. I love adding a dash of cayenne for a spicy version or some frozen raspberries for berry hot cocoa. This hazelnut hot chocolate recipe is also a family favorite.

Optionally you can also add in some anti-inflammatory turmeric, hormone balancing maca root, or antimicrobial cinnamon. Cinnamon also makes it taste like Mexican hot chocolate. Homemade marshmallows with honey and gelatin are also a family favorite!

Whether you’re making it for a crowd or just yourself, treat yourself (and family!) to some of this nourishing, healthy hot chocolate.

Healthy Hot Chocolate Recipe

This delicious real food hot chocolate recipe combines cocoa powder, healthy fats, and natural sweeteners for a satisfying and healthy drink.

Optional Additions

  • ½-1 tsp maca powder (optional)
  • ¼ tsp turmeric (optional)
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • splash of cream or coconut cream for richness (optional)
  • Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.

  • Pour into a small saucepan and warm gently over medium heat while stirring. Don’t boil.

  • Taste and adjust sweetness or spices.

  • Pour into a mug and enjoy warm.

Cocoa For a Crowd

You can make a single serving of cocoa in just two minutes in the blender, or easily scale it. It also adapts well to a Crock Pot if you’re making this for a crowd. Just multiply the ingredients, whisk well, and keep warm until ready to serve. It’s perfect for kids, holiday gatherings, or family night.

If you want to make a gallon for a crowd here are the adjusted amounts:

  • 13 cups milk
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup gelatin
  • 3/4 cup butter or coconut oil
  • 1/4-1/2 cup maple syrup or honey (to taste)
  • 3 TBSP vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 3-6 TBSP maca powder (optional)
  • 3 tsp turmeric (optional)
  • 3 TBSP cinnamon (optional)

No time to make cocoa from scratch? I like using this Organifi Gold chocolate powder to make healthy and delicious hot chocolate! And these healthy marshmallows work well too.

The Ultimate 5-Minute ‘No-Makeup’ Makeup Routine You’ll Love | Beauty News

The Ultimate 5-Minute ‘No-Makeup’ Makeup Routine You’ll Love | Beauty News

Last Updated:February 17, 2026, 13:45 IST

Want radiant skin without heavy foundation? Try this easy no-makeup makeup routine with light coverage, blush hacks and glow tips for an effortless everyday look.

This makeup hack will make you look glowy, fresh, and pretty!

Do you ever find yourself scrolling through the Internet and spotting videos of actresses looking effortlessly flawless, seemingly with barely any makeup on? Same here. The ‘no-makeup makeup’ look has been trending for a while, but let’s be real, it’s not as easy to pull off as it sounds, even though, technically, it’s supposed to be a ‘no-makeup’ look.

So, if you are wondering how to achieve that effortless, fresh-faced glow in just a few minutes, you are in the right place. Before we get into the simple steps to nail it, let’s first understand what the no-makeup makeup look actually is.

What Is A ‘No Makeup’ Makeup Look And Why Is It Trending?

The no-makeup look is all about enhancing your natural features using minimal products. It focuses on lightweight, breathable formulas that let your skin shine through while still making you look fresh and put together.

What makes this look so appealing, and why it’s been trending, is its connection to the skincare-first mindset that emerged during COVID. People started prioritising healthy, well-cared-for skin, which naturally led to a preference for sheer foundations, dewy highlighters, and barely-there lip and cheek tints. These subtle products allow the skin, already perfected by a consistent skincare routine, to take centre stage.

How To Nail The ‘No Makeup’ Makeup Look In Just 5 Minutes

1. Skin Prep, Always

When your skin is well prepped, you automatically need less coverage. It is not always necessary to follow a long, multi-step skincare routine. A good SPF moisturiser or even a strobe cream can work wonders on its own. These products create a smooth, hydrated base, allowing your makeup to glide on effortlessly while still keeping the skin looking fresh and breathable.

2. Full Face Foundation? No Need

You can skip the full-coverage foundation and go for spot concealing or a lightweight skin tint instead, and apply it with your fingers for a more natural finish. Use concealer only where needed, like the inner corners of your eyes, around the nose, or on any blemishes.

3. Blush Being The Gamechanger

To add a natural flush, use a cream blush in a soft pink that suits your skin tone. Dab it onto the apples of your cheeks and blend upwards. You can also try the trending boyfriend blush by placing it slightly lower on the cheeks. At last, whatever blush is left on your fingers, lightly tap it onto your eyelids for a natural finish.

4. Don’t Forget Brows And Lashes

Do not forget your brows and lashes, but keep them soft and natural, not overly perfect. A tinted brow gel works great to add shape and fullness, and a light coat of brown mascara on the lashes is enough to open up your eyes without looking heavy.

5. Bringing It All Together

Finish off your look with a lip balm or a nourishing lip oil for a healthy shine. You can also lightly dust some bronzer in a soft ‘W’ shape across your cheeks and nose to add a natural, sun-kissed glow.

The Bare-Minimum Wellness Routine That Keeps Me Sane-ish

The Bare-Minimum Wellness Routine That Keeps Me Sane-ish

Wellness culture keeps telling us that the secret to a good life is sunrise yoga, aten-step skincare routine, and a Himalayan salt lamp that somehow costs more than next month’s rent. But on most days, I’m just trying to get through traffic without losing hope, manage work without burning out, show up for the people I love, and make space for the occasional identity crisis. In that reality, wellness has to look different. It has to be simple. Gentle. Human. And low-effort enough that it doesn’t collapse the moment Monday shows up.

Advertisment

So this is the bare-minimum wellness routine I’ve come to trust. Nothing fancy. Just small, doable habits that fit into real life, and keep you steady without needing a spa day budget or monk-level discipline.

1. The Morning Reset

Before your brain starts loading stress like background apps, give yourself a two-minute signal that a new day has begun.

  • Splash cold water on your face
  • Drink a glass of water (yes, before coffee)
  • Stand by a window or balcony and breathe for 10 seconds

Advertisment

You’re not aiming for enlightenment. Just orientation.

2. The Two-Minute Move Rule

Photograph: (Pexels)

No gym. No mat. No pressure. Your new philosophy is to move for two minutes a day, in any way your body won’t protest.

  • A big, stretchy morning yawn + shoulder rolls
  • 10 squats while you make coffee
  • A walk across your room repeated 5 times
  • One song’s worth of light stretching

It’s not about fitness, it’s about circulation and shaking off that foggy, half-asleep energy.

3. The Three-Product Beauty Non-Negotiable

Indian weather can be… unpredictable. Scorching sun, pollution, dryness, humidity, all in one week. So pick threeproducts you’ll use daily, no matter how hectic life gets. That step becomes your anchor.

4. Your Daily Phone-Free Pocket

Photograph: (Pexels)

Not a full digital detox. Just ten minutes when your phone isn’t invited.

Choose one:

  • First 10 minutes of your morning
  • Last 10 minutes before bed
  • While having a meal
  • In the shower

This tiny boundary works wonders for your attention span and anxiety levels.

5. The Nightly Brain Unload

No perfect journaling. Just a quick, messy list of everything buzzing around your mind. Tasks. Thoughts. Worries. Things you need to remember tomorrow. All of it.

Emptying your mind before bed feels like clearing hundreds of browser tabs, liberating.

6. The 5% Rule

Ask yourself once a day:

“What would make the next hour feel 5% better?”

Tiny things count:

  • A cold beverage
  • Washing your face mid-day
  • Playing soft music
  • Sitting down for 5 minutes
  • Changing into comfy clothes after work

Not perfection, just tiny upgrades.

This is wellness without the pressure. Beauty without the overwhelm. And self-care without the guilt. A routine so simple you can maintain it even on days when everything feels like too much. Because when life gets busy, the bare minimum isn’t laziness, it’s survival. And sometimes, it’s exactly what keeps you sane.

The Ultimate Summer Skincare Routine For 2026

The Ultimate Summer Skincare Routine For 2026

Summer 2026 is a challenge with temperatures reaching new highs every year. Add increasing pollution to it, and your skin problems may get worse. Your skin has to work extra to stay balanced. It is a daily struggle for many to experience oiliness by noon, but dryness and tightness beneath the surface.

Splashing water on your face could have fixed the problem earlier. You need a reliable layering of products to address the skin concerns now. However, that does not mean getting twenty different bottles for each problem. Just a few hardworking products like a detan face mask and Vitamin C serum can do the job of protecting your skin when you are out and take care of the damage after you come home.

Here is a step-by-step guide to maintain clear skin all season long.

Morning Skincare Routine: Protect & Prevent

The morning is your time to build a shield. You want to stay fresh and keep the sun from doing its worst damage.

Step 1: Body Wash During Bath Time

A summer day starts with a clean base. Your body accumulates sweat and old skin cells overnight, which can lead to clogged pores and body breakouts.

  • The Goal: Use a gentle and refreshing body wash to wake up your skin.
  • Skin Tip: Look for a moisturising wash if your skin feels parched. If you are prone to back acne, a clarifying formula will keep things clear.

Step 2: Face Wash for a Fresh Start

You are likely to wake up with a layer of oil, even if you washed your face before bed. Skipping this step can lead to trapped bacteria and breakouts in hot weather.

  • Oily Skin: Go for a gel-based cleanser to cut through the shine.
  • Dry/Sensitive Skin: A creamy or hydrating wash will clean your face without making it feel like sandpaper.

Step 3: Scrub (2–3 Times a Week)

Exfoliation has a lot of benefits, but not when you overdo it. Scrubbing every single day during summer is a mistake, as it can make your skin way too sensitive to the sun.

  • The Timing: Stick to 2–3 times a week.
  • Benefits: It clears away dead skin and keeps your tan from looking patchy.

Pro Tip: Always follow with applying plenty of sunscreen if you exfoliate in the morning.

Step 4: Face Sunscreen SPF 50 – The Big One

If you only do one thing, make it count. SPF 50 is the bare minimum for an Indian summer. It is the only defence against tanning, dark spots, and ageing.

  • The Rules: Use the “two-finger rule” for your face and neck. Apply it 20 minutes before you head out and reapply every few hours if you are outdoors.
  • Important: Do not skip sunscreen if you are using a Vitamin C serum or any active treatment.

Step 5: Face Moisturiser to Lock it In

Many people skip this because they are afraid of feeling greasy, but heat can dehydrate your skin. A lightweight and water-gel moisturiser will keep your skin from overproducing oil and allow your sunscreen to sit smoothly.

Evening Skincare Routine: Cleanse & Repair

When the sun goes down, it is time to let your skin breathe and recover.

Step 1: Wash Away the Day

Sunscreen is designed to stay on, which means it does not just come off with water. Use a good face wash to remove the impurities, SPF, sweat, and pollution that have been sitting on your face all day.

Step 2: Repair with Serums

Nighttime is the best time for your skin to heal. This is when you should apply a Vitamin C serum.

  • Benefits: It repairs sun stress, improves your skin texture, and brightens up any dullness.

Step 3: Nighttime Moisturiser

Seal everything in with a moisturiser. You can also use a richer cream at night since you won’t be sweating under the sun. It will help your skin barrier repair itself while you sleep.

Exfoliation Routine: The Summer Reset

Think of exfoliation as your weekly deep-clean.

Body Exfoliation

Use a body scrub twice a week during your shower. It’s the best way to keep your elbows and knees smooth and prevent a tan from looking dull and muddy.

Face Exfoliation: The De-Tan Secret

Swap your usual routine for a detox face mask once or twice a week.

  • Why it works: These masks pull out deep-seated oil and help lift away the tan that daily washing is unable to reach.
  • The Rule: Never use a physical scrub and a clay mask on the same day, and your skin will thank you for the mercy.

Summer Skincare by Skin Type

  • Oily & Acne-Prone: Gel cleansers are your best friend. Use a detan face mask to keep your pores from getting overwhelmed by the heat.
  • Dry Skin: Focus on creamy textures. Do not over-exfoliate because once a week is plenty.
  • Sensitive Skin: Avoid gritty scrubs. Stick to soothing masks and always patch-test a new Vitamin C serum before diving in.

Final Takeaway

A summer routine is only as good as its consistency at the end of the day. You do not need a complicated shelf. Just protect yourself with SPF in the morning and allow your skin to repair with a Vitamin C serum and a detan face mask at night. Your skin will stay bright and feel ready for whatever the challenges summer brings.
