Dr Natalie’s Top Ten Anti-Aging Tips to Stay Radiant and Youthful

Dr Natalie’s Top Ten Anti-Aging Tips to Stay Radiant and Youthful

Ageing isn’t something you can stop – but you can absolutely manage how you age. While some signs of ageing are natural, many others can be delayed with smart choices. According to Dr Natalie Geary, one of the UK’s most respected aesthetic doctors, small daily habits can have a lasting impact on how you age.

Dr. Geary is the Founder and Medical Director of Light Touch Clinic Surrey, a well-known doctor-led clinic in the South West of London. She has been at the forefront of non-surgical aesthetic care for over 17 years, having treated more than 20,000 patients and performed hundreds of thousands of procedures.

Her advice draws from years of clinical practice and patient outcomes – offering practical ways to maintain a youthful appearance through every stage of life.

Below are Dr. Natalie’s ten tips for staying radiant and well-supported in how you age.

1. Prioritise restorative sleep

Poor sleep shows on your face faster than anything else. Data from Oxford Academic research shows that people who do not sleep well tend to age faster and have weaker skin protection.

Dr Natalie recommends 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep every night. While you sleep, your body goes into repair mode. Skin cells regenerate. Collagen production increases. And your natural glow is restored.

She personally uses a sleep tracker to monitor her rest patterns. Tools like this can help you build better habits and wake up refreshed.

2. Manage your stress before it ages you

Long-term stress increases cortisol. It is a steroid hormone which breaks down collagen. This causes fine lines and dull skin. Dr Natalie recommends meditation, light exercise, and herbs like Ashwagandha to help balance your stress levels naturally.

Even a short daily walk or 10 minutes of deep breathing can make a difference. Smile more, worry less – it is the cheapest anti-wrinkle solution out there.

3. Focus on colourful, home-cooked food

Your skin reflects what you eat. A diet high in fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, and whole grains helps fight oxidative stress. These foods contain antioxidants, which slow down the cellular ageing process.

Instead of sticking to the usual greens, Dr Natalie includes a variety – like peppers, berries, and leafy herbs – to get a full range of nutrients. So, make sure you cook fresh, eat colourful, and avoid ultra-processed foods.

4. Don’t skip strength training

As you age, you lose muscle. This lowers your metabolism and can lead to unwanted weight gain. Strength training helps maintain muscle mass. More muscle means better posture, fewer injuries, and tighter-looking skin.

Harvard research suggests that regular strength training may help slow biological ageing compared to a sedentary lifestyle.

Dr Natalie recommends lifting light weights twice a week. You don’t have to spend hours in the gym, but it is important to be consistent.

5. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Dehydration is one of the fastest ways to dull your skin. Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. You will notice your skin looks plumper, softer, and brighter.

For a hydration boost, Dr Natalie also suggests products with hyaluronic acid – often found in high-quality fillers and cosmetic injectables.

6. Wear sunscreen – Even in the UK

Yes, even on cloudy days.

Sun exposure is the biggest external factor in premature ageing. SPF 30 or higher is non-negotiable, says Dr. Natalie. She applies it every morning after moisturising.

However, she also advises getting 20 minutes of morning sun without sunscreen for natural vitamin D. After that – it protects your skin.

7. Stick to a reliable skincare routine

Dr Natalie’s personal skincare formula is quite simple –

  • A gentle cleanser (ZO cleanser)
  • ZO exfoliating polish twice a week
  • Skinceuticals CE Ferulic and Skinceuticals HA Intensifier
  • Vitamin C serum in the morning
  • Hyaluronic acid serum at night

She prefers evidence-based products from medical skincare brands. If you are unsure what suits your skin, visit Dr Natalie’s aesthetic clinic for expert consultation.

8. Don’t neglect vitamin D

Most people in the UK are deficient, especially during winter.

Vitamin D affects more than just your bones – it also influences your mood and skin health. A supplement may help if you are not getting enough sun.

Dr Natalie takes a small daily dose and recommends regular blood tests to monitor your levels.

9. Surround yourself with positivity

The people you spend time with affect how you feel – and how you look.

Being around uplifting, positive people reduces stress, helps you sleep better, and even makes your face look softer and more relaxed.

Join a local group, reconnect with friends, or try something new. Mental well-being shows up in your physical appearance.

10. Keep learning and moving forward

Trying new things keeps your brain young and your spirit alive.

Dr Natalie recently took up surfing and travelled to Costa Rica to try new things and keep her adventurous spirit alive. New experiences keep you mentally and emotionally energised.

So take a class, start painting, or book that trip you have been dreaming about.

Secret to Silky Smooth Skin Post Shaving: Dermatologist Reveals 4 Game-Changing Tips | Fashion News

Last Updated:November 16, 2025, 13:40 IST

If you want legs that are silky smooth but get ingrown hairs, dermatologist Dr Neera Nathan shares 4 hacks that are easy to follow.

Dermatologist recommend single-blade razors for bump-free shave

Razor bumps and ingrown hairs can turn one’s grooming routine into a frustrating ordeal while also leaving your skin irritated and inflamed and you feeling uncomfortable. This might be a shaving complication that affects women all around the world, regardless of skin type. However, achieving a smooth, professional-quality shave is entirely possible with a few swaps and the right approach.

Dermatologist Dr Neera Nathan took to Instagram to share four essential tips that can transform your shaving experience from painful to pretty. Instead of hoping or praying for good results, these hacks focus on proper preparation, technique refinement, and post-shave care to ensure your skin remains healthy, smooth, and free from irritation every single time.

Dr Neera shared a detailed video on Instagram for women who are looking for that blemish-free, perfect-looking skin that is free of bumps and ingrown hair. She says, “If you want legs that are silky smooth but get ingrown hair, you need to understand that women’s lasers are a complete scam. Not only is it the pink tax at its finest, but women’s razors have many blades that can actually push the hair under the skin, causing ingrown hairs.”

So skip the pretty pink or blue razors that are marketed to women and are more expensive; instead, she adds that “dermatologists love single-blade razors”. These razors are generally marketed for men, as they cause less irritation and fewer bumps.

The American dermatologist-turned-influencer also says, “Do not sleep on the power of exfoliation. I don’t mean those ratchet exfoliating gloves. Instead, try a gentle chemical exfoliating cleanser in the shower before shaving to help soften and loosen trapped hair. You can also put a spray cap on your Glycolic acid and spritz it on your legs a few times per week to help the hairs grow out instead of in.”

Glycolic acid is known to be great for exfoliation and can improve the skin’s texture and radiance while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles through collagen stimulation. It can also improve one’s skin tone by fading hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Using Glycolic acid daily can help prevent bumps and body acne by unclogging pores and hydrating the skin, making it appear smoother and plumper.

She goes on to remind women not to skip shaving cream and to use a urea moisturiser. “It creates a nice, slippery surface between your skin and the razor for less irritation and a closer shave.”

“I highly recommend a urea moisturiser. It will soften the hair, get rid of dead skin and hydrate your skin,” she explains. Now, don’t freak out at the use of urea, as the body itself naturally; however, the stuff made in the laboratory is referred to as synthetic urea. It is present in a range of skincare and cosmetic products.

It has several benefits, including acting as a humectant, as urea draws water into the skin and helps it retain moisture for long-lasting hydration. It can break down and exfoliate dead skin to improve skin texture and reduce dullness, while also softening rough skin. Using it after a bath and shaving can be great, as urea can increase the penetration of other topical medications, making them more effective.

Groom Makeup Tips: 5 Easy Ways To Look Smart, Sharp, And Photo-Ready! | Beauty News

Groom Makeup Tips: 5 Easy Ways To Look Smart, Sharp, And Photo-Ready! | Beauty News

Last Updated:November 14, 2025, 14:37 IST

With the right, refined touches, a groom can look polished and radiant. Let’s check out a few smart makeup tips that can elevate the look from simple to strikingly unforgettable!

Grooms can achieve a polished look with subtle makeup.

A wedding day holds equal significance for the groom as it does for the bride. With cameras capturing every candid smile and cinematic moment, the groom needs to look sharp, fresh, and well-groomed. Gone are the days when a simple haircut and suit were enough; modern grooms are embracing subtle makeup to enhance their natural features and complement their overall look.

This isn’t about heavy makeup, but a refined touch that ensures you appear just as radiant as your bride. Here’s what every groom should keep in mind for flawless wedding grooming, as well as the mistakes one must avoid.

Makeup Tips For Grooms

  1. Keep contouring light: If you want a sharper, more defined appearance, use a contour or bronzer only 1-2 shades darker than your skin tone. Apply it lightly under the cheekbones and along the jawline for a subtle, natural finish.
  2. Groom your eyebrows: Brush your brows into place and fill any sparse areas with a pencil matching your natural hair colour. Well-shaped brows instantly make your face appear neater and more structured.
  3. Subtly define your eyes: A thin coat of clear or black waterproof mascara opens up the eyes and adds freshness without looking overly made-up.
  4. Never skip lip balm: Chapped lips can be noticeable in photographs. Apply a plain or lightly tinted lip balm to keep them soft, smooth, and hydrated.
  5. Use a setting spray: A light mist at the end helps remove any powdery finish and keeps your makeup intact throughout the celebrations.

What Grooms Should Avoid

  1. Avoid over-contouring: Harsh lines and excessive sculpting can appear unnatural. Keep everything soft and well-blended.
  2. Don’t overfill your eyebrows: Extremely dark or heavily shaped brows can look artificial. Only fill gaps, don’t redesign the shape.
  3. Stay away from shimmer: Glittery bronzers or highlighters often look out of place on men. Opt for matte products for a clean, polished look.
  4. Don’t ignore your neck and ears: If you’re applying base makeup, blend a little onto your neck and ears for a consistent, even tone in photos.
  5. Don’t leave it until the last minute: If you’re hiring a professional, book a trial session. If doing your own makeup, practise beforehand to avoid wedding-day mishaps.

Your wedding is one of the most memorable days of your life. Just as the bride invests time in perfecting her look, the groom too should focus on grooming and subtle enhancement. The aim isn’t to appear glamorous, but to look effortlessly fresh, confident, and photo-ready from every angle.

Follow these simple tips, and the camera will love you just as much as your bride does!

How to layer winter skincare? Expert tips and common mistakes

How to layer winter skincare? Expert tips and common mistakes

Learn how to layer winter skincare products effectively. Avoid common mistakes and receive expert tips to keep skin hydrated and healthy.

As the air gets colder, many of us prepare to keep our skin hydrated and healthy; however, winter can be particularly harsh on our skin. Lower temperatures and lower humidity can cause dryness, flakiness, and increased sensitivity. It often feels like a losing battle, mainly when you apply thick creams and oils, but still find your skin feeling dry and uncomfortable. What’s going on?

Many people focus on using heavy skincare products. Still, we often overlook an important aspect: how to layer those products correctly. “Learning to layer your winter skincare can significantly help with dryness and can give you a healthy glow”, Dr Anindita Sarkar, Aesthetic Physician and Medical Cosmetologist, tells Health Shots. The correct way to layer your products and why many people get it wrong, based on expert advice from skincare professionals.

What is the primary purpose of layering?

Before we get into how to layer products, let’s talk about why it’s important. Each skincare product has a unique formula, which means it works at various levels and serves specific purposes. “If you don’t apply them in the correct order, you can block absorption and reduce their effectiveness”, says the doctor. Instead of achieving the smooth, hydrated skin you want, you might end up with a greasy feel that actually harms your skin.

What is the correct order of layering winter skincare products?

Let’s discuss the fundamental steps for winter skincare layering. “It’s important to use your products in the correct order”, says Dr Sarkar. This helps each product work well together, rather than against each other.

  1. Cleanser: Start your routine with a gentle cleanser that hydrates your skin. “This cleanser should remove dirt and impurities without stripping your skin of its natural oils”, shares the skin expert. Select a product that cleanses and nourishes your skin simultaneously.
  2. Toner or mist: Next, use an alcohol-free toner or hydrating mist. This step is often overlooked, but it is crucial for maintaining your skin’s pH balance. A good toner prepares your skin for the products you will use next and helps them work more effectively.
  3. Serum: Begin your skincare routine with a lightweight serum rich in ingredients that benefit your skin. “Look for hyaluronic acid, which helps pull moisture into your skin, or niacinamide, which supports your skin’s barrier”, shares the expert. This step enables essential hydration to penetrate deeply into your skin.
  4. Moisturiser: After applying the serum, it’s essential to follow with a moisturising cream. “Choose creams that contain ingredients like ceramides, squalane, or shea butter”, says the aesthetic physician. These ingredients help strengthen your skin’s barrier and retain moisture.
  5. Facial oil (optional): If you have dehydrated skin, consider adding a few drops of non-comedogenic facial oils, such as safflower or rosehip oil. Using oil at this stage can add protection, improve glow, and make your skin feel as good as it looks.
  6. Sunscreen: Don’t forget to wear sunscreen, even in winter! “Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher because UVA rays are always present, no matter the season”, says the medical cosmetologist. Many people think they can skip sunscreen when it’s cold, but UV exposure can cause long-term skin damage.

What are some common skincare mistakes?

Now that we’ve discussed the correct order for layering skincare products, let’s look at some common mistakes that can disrupt your winter skincare routine.

  1. Skipping sunscreen: Many people believe they are safe from UV rays in winter, but this is a big mistake. UV rays can still cause skin ageing and dark spots.
  2. Over-exfoliating: Exfoliating too frequently with acids or scrubs can cause damage to your skin. “It may remove essential oils from your skin barrier, causing further dryness and irritation”, says the cosmetologist. During winter, it’s best to limit exfoliation or opt for gentler methods.
  3. Applying active ingredients to dry skin: Did you know that some ingredients, like hyaluronic acid, work better on slightly damp skin? If you use them to dry skin, they might not work as well, and you could be disappointed with the results.
  4. Layering products too quickly: Give your skin time to absorb each product before applying the next one. If you rush, it can cause your products to clump or irritate your skin, which reduces the benefits of the products you chose.

What is a holistic approach in skincare?

Winter skincare is about finding balance and using products in the correct order, not just piling on more products. By layering your skincare correctly, you help hydration absorb deeply while keeping your skin moist. When you layer your winter skincare products correctly, they can help fight dryness instead of causing frustration. Your skin doesn’t need more products; it needs better balance.

Avoid these skincare mistakes: Tips for a balanced routine

Avoid these skincare mistakes: Tips for a balanced routine

Learn about common skincare mistakes that can harm your skin. How to create a balanced routine that keeps skin healthy without overexertion.

In a world where beauty influencers lead the way and social media influences how we perceive skincare, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the numerous products and trends we encounter online. We often end up buying the newest serums, toners, and oils, believing that using these products will give us the radiant, flawless skin we want. However, there’s a problem: as we seek the perfect glow, we may actually harm our skin by making common skincare mistakes and using too many products.

What are some common skincare mistakes?

Let’s look at three common skincare mistakes and learn how to create a skincare routine that works well for you.

Is more skincare better?

Many people believe that using more skincare products is always better, which is a common skincare mistake. This can be misleading. Applying several strong ingredients, such as retinol, Vitamin C, AHAs, and BHAs, is a good idea for faster results. However, Dr Rupika Singh, Dermatologist, warns that using too many strong ingredients together can harm your skin. “Mixing strong actives can compromise the skin’s natural barrier,” the skincare expert tells Health Shots. This can lead to issues such as redness, increased sensitivity, and breakouts.

Our skin needs balance, not a mix of conflicting ingredients. It can be tempting to try every trending product, but it’s better to find what works for your skin type. Many people make common skincare mistakes by layering too many products. “Instead of using multiple ingredients, simplify your routine with high-quality products that cater to your skin’s specific needs,” explains the doctor. The goal is to nourish and protect your skin, not overwhelm it with too many products.

What happens if you exfoliate too much?

Speaking of products, a particularly popular trend that many enthusiastically embrace is exfoliation. While it’s a vital step in any skincare routine for removing dead skin cells and promoting a healthy glow, over-exfoliation can be detrimental. Dr Rupika Singh emphasises that “striking the right balance is crucial. While exfoliation is beneficial, doing it too frequently, or combining different types, such as physical scrubs with chemical exfoliants, can strip the skin of its essential moisture.” This is one of the common skincare mistakes that can lead to irritation and other skin issues.

The solution to your dry-skin issues is here: some expert advice on how to make the best of them. Image courtesy: Adobe Stock

When your skin becomes irritated and dry due to excessive exfoliation, it can lead to early signs of ageing and disrupt your skin’s moisture balance, which are common skincare mistakes. Instead of trying the latest exfoliation trend, take a step back. Follow a routine that includes gentle exfoliation a few times a week, and pay attention to what your skin is telling you. If you notice sensitivity or irritation, it’s time to change your routine.

What happens if you cleanse too much?

One common skincare mistake in modern routines is “over-care.” In our quest for perfect skin, we may wash our faces too frequently or try multiple toners and serums, hoping for quick results. Dr Singh points out that this quick-switching mindset can lead to problems. “Your skin needs time to adjust to new products. Constantly changing your routine disrupts its balance and can lead to inflammation or breakouts,” she explains.

Many people think their skin issues are due to “purging” when they see it as a necessary detox. In reality, using too many products can make your skin sensitive and reactive, a common mistake in skincare. It’s great to stay up-to-date with the latest skincare information, but remember that using more products doesn’t necessarily mean better care. Skincare should focus on healing and strengthening your skin’s barrier, rather than putting it under stress with excessive product use.

How does social media affect beauty trends?

With so many beauty trends promoted by social media influencers, it can be challenging to determine what works best for your skin. Dr Singh points out that “the sharing of skincare tips on Instagram and TikTok can confuse professional advice with DIY methods,” leading to various skincare mistakes. While trends can help raise awareness, they might not be suitable for everyone. What works for one person may not work for another.

Personalisation is key in skincare. Instead of following the latest trends or making common skincare mistakes, focus on what your skin needs explicitly. A consistent routine based on science will lead to healthier skin over time, rather than trying out every new fad. To find the best skincare plan for your skin, consider talking to a skincare professional.
