The Bare-Minimum Skincare Routine For Men Who Hate Skincare

The Bare-Minimum Skincare Routine For Men Who Hate Skincare

I’m not really here to make you fall in love with skincare but rather chit chat about what’s worth getting out of bed and what’s not if you at all wish to look younger than you do right now.

When a friend of mine, Aarav, moved to Mumbai, he did so with three things: ambition, a backpack and a delusional conviction that one bar of soap could single-handedly maintain the entirety of his dermatological destiny.

Face? Soap.

Body? Soap.

Existential crisis? Hot shower with the same soap.

For a while, this monastic minimalism held steady. Until Mumbai intervened.

Weeks of seawind humidity, traffic fumes, late-night vada pav pilgrimages and the spiritual chaos of local trains gradually sculpted a version of him even he didn’t recognise. Duller, rougher, prematurely exhausted.

During a routine video call, his cousin (a long-suffering dermatologist who had spent years preaching the gospel of basic skincare) stared at his face and asked him why he looked like an off-duty rickshaw driver.

That line landed harder than Mumbai rent.

So he grudgingly began focusing on the most necessary bits of men’s skincare. And I’m sharing with you the minimal routine that rescued him.

Table of Contents

1. The Replacement of Your Soap

© Instagram/Kartik Aaryan

Your soap works against your face. Know that. Bar soaps possess a caustic pH that strips your skin of lipids faster than Mumbai landlords strip you of savings.

This results in dryness, dullness, random rough patches and gives your face an exhausted aesthetic.

A cleanser changes everything — subtly, efficiently, elegantly. Look for gel or foam formulations from houses like Aesop, Kiehl’s, Clinique, CeraVe or Dermalogica.

They cleanse and also restore equilibrium. Ten seconds. One wash. Zero emotional labour.

2. Twice-A-Week Ritual Of Exfoliating

© Instagram/Rohit Saraf

Men underestimate exfoliation because it sounds like effort. Ironically, it’s the least effort for the most visible payoff.

A chemical exfoliant (AHA/BHA) dissolves dead skin, unclogs pores and reveals a smoother, clearer canvas — a process ordinarily accomplished only by good genetics or divine intervention.

Use it two evenings a week. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Recommended: Paula’s Choice BHA, The Ordinary Glycolic, Murad AHA/BHA

3. Serum – The One Step That Makes You Look Expensive

© Instagram/Vedang Raina

Serums are potent, refined, sophisticated. They are the haute couture of skincare.

This is the product grooming editors, dermatologists, celebrities and even the PR girls at fashion week rely on when they need to look luminous on zero sleep. For Indian male skin battling pollution, fatigue and erratic routines, a Vitamin C or Niacinamide serum is alchemy. It can brighten, strengthen, even tone and fight dullness.

Think of it as an espresso shot with antioxidants for your skin.

Luxury picks: Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair, Augustinus Bader Light Serum, La Roche-Posay, Minimalist, Korean formulations if you want that sleek K-drama luminosity.

4. Moisturiser Because Hydrated Skin Makes You Look Competent

© Instagram/Abhay Verma

Moisturisers don’t make your skin unnecessarily extra shiny; they refine your skin. Hydration is the difference between looking tired and looking ready to attend a wedding.

It makes your skin appear smoother, softer and more conventionally successful, the way CEOs and men in Tata ads always mysteriously look.

Look for featherlight textures like Clinique Moisture Surge, Neutrogena Hydro Boost, Belif Aqua Bomb, Plum Men, Forest Essentials Light Gel.

5. The Night Ritual

© Instagram/Sparsh Shrivastava

Nighttime is when your skin repairs the sins of your day — sun, sweat, traffic, stress, questionable food choices, emotional burnout, everything.

Your nighttime routine is simple but very important. Cleanser, Serum, Moisturiser.

Nothing elaborate. Nothing intimidating. Nothing that requires a ring light or 12-step Korean manuals. Just three actions that reverse environmental damage while you dream of a life where you have better habits.

The Final Word

You don’t need a doctoral thesis in skincare. You don’t need 17 products. You don’t need to turn into that man on Instagram who stores moisturiser in a skincare fridge.

You just need five aristocratically minimal steps, tested and approved by dermatologists, loved by lazy men.

It’s a given that the magic doesn’t happen overnight but if in a month or so people around you recognise the improvement, that’s the highest compliment a man can earn without any actual effort.

The Bridal Glow Shift: Why Full-Body Skincare Is The New Pre-Wedding Essential | Beauty News

The Bridal Glow Shift: Why Full-Body Skincare Is The New Pre-Wedding Essential | Beauty News

Last Updated:December 02, 2025, 11:26 IST

Before the wedding, face care gets all the attention, but with 90 per cent of your skin on the body, it’s time to rethink your bridal skincare routine.

Experts recommend starting body care routines 3-4 months before the wedding.

For today’s bride, beauty prep goes far beyond facials and sheet masks. With modern outfits spotlighting the back, shoulders, arms, and decolletage, the body has become just as central to the wedding-day glow as the face. Multiple outdoor events, harsh sunlight, and hours of photography mean that skincare must extend to every inch of skin on display. As bridal beauty evolves, industry experts agree: body care is now a non-negotiable part of the pre-wedding ritual.

Riya Sehgal, Senior Brand Manager, Heliocare, Skinspired, “Brides spend months perfecting their facial skincare, but body care is still often pushed to the back burner even as modern outfits highlight the arms, back, shoulders, and décolletage more than ever.” Arshia Kaur, Founder, Tint Cosmetics, shares a similar sentiment: “Everyone talks about face care, but the body makes up almost 90 per cent of your skin and somehow it gets the least attention.”

Why Brides Are Expanding Their Skincare Approach

Sun exposure, back-to-back ceremonies, and long outdoor shoots make body protection more crucial than ever. As Sehgal explains, “With multiple outdoor events and constant photography under the Indian sun, protecting the skin on your body is no longer a choice; it’s a must.” She recommends starting a routine at least three to four months in advance for visible, lasting results.

Body Care As Self-Care, Not Correction

While bridal prep often becomes performance-driven, experts urge brides to shift the narrative. “Body care isn’t about fixing anything. It’s just about giving the rest of your body the same small moments of care you already give your face,” says Kaur. She emphasises that regular exfoliation, moisturising, and barrier support are not meant to erase texture or marks. They’re meant to keep skin healthy and comfortable through the chaos of wedding planning.

The Ritual, Not The Rush

Aashka Goradia Goble, Co-founder, RENEE Cosmetics, says that bridal body care is a grounding ritual. “Starting your complete skincare routine early allows time for products to work, offers stress reduction through daily self-care, and gives your skin ample time to heal before the wedding,” she says.

Brides drawn to natural, fresh ingredients will resonate with Swagatika Das, CEO & Co-founder, Nat Habit, who explains, “The skin on your shoulders, arms, back, and neck undergoes the same fatigue, dryness, and dullness as the face.” She champions nutrient-rich formulations such as ubtans, malai masks, and cold-pressed oils to restore softness and radiance. “Even a weekly exfoliation or daily moisturisation can transform the skin’s texture and tone,” she adds.

A luminous bridal look doesn’t come from the face alone. It’s the harmony of hydrated shoulders, glowing arms, a smooth back, and nourished skin from head to toe. With expert-approved routines and early preparation, every bride can achieve a naturally radiant, photo-ready finish that feels as good as it looks.

Lymphatic drainage: the gentle beauty trend transforming skincare routines

Lymphatic drainage: the gentle beauty trend transforming skincare routines

Skincare trends come and go, but few have sparked as much buzz as lymphatic drainage. Promising to de-puff, sculpt and detox from head to toe, it’s become the go-to treatment for beauty lovers and wellness enthusiasts. But does it truly live up to the hype, or is it just the latest trend to steal the spotlight?Face Sculptor roller by Skin Gym. Photo: Handout

One of the least understood parts of our physiology, the lymphatic system is actually the body’s ultimate clean-up crew, pushing lymph – a clear, immune-boosting fluid – through a network of vessels and nodes to dispose of waste and toxins. “Our lymphatic system doesn’t move like our circulatory system. It doesn’t have a pump like the heart to cause circulation,” explains Cameran Battley, licensed clinical massage therapist and owner of Honee B. Beauty in the US state of Indiana. “Instead, it moves when we move, breathe, or with external stimulation such as lymphatic massage.”

Lymphatic drainage “works by creating slight pressure gradients that help move interstitial fluid into lymph vessels”, explains Dr Ahmad Chaudhry, certified dermatologist at Copenhagen-based Scandinavian Biolabs. Specific light touch encourages fluid movement, reduces swelling and gives the body’s detoxification system a modest boost. When functioning well, the lymphatic system helps maintain fluid balance, remove waste and support immune health.

So what about lymphatic drainage massage? It’s all about gently guiding lymph fluid along using delicate, rhythmic pressure to move it towards the lymph nodes where it can be filtered. Unlike typical massages that work deep into muscles, lymphatic drainage is a surface-level technique. “Pressure is usually about a one or two on a 10-point scale,” explains Chaudhry, emphasising that lymphatic drainage is more of a gentle nudge than a deep-tissue treatment.

Indeed, deeper pressure can temporarily collapse the lymphatic vessels. “[Lymphatic drainage] is very rhythmic and methodical. The therapist will use a sequence of strokes on an area multiple times to achieve the desired effect,” Battley explains.

As you might expect, myths around lymphatic drainage abound. While it can help reduce fluid retention, making you feel temporarily lighter after a session, it does not magically dissolve fat. “Lymph is different from fat or cellulite, which shapes the appearance of skin,” clarifies Stacey Tapping, founder and CEO of Beauty Sculpting Room in the English county of Dorset. “Lymph carries fat, among other substances processed in the body,” she explains.

Lyma Laser. Photo: HandoutAccording to another myth, lymphatic drainage is the holy grail of facial sculpting, producing noticeably chiselled cheekbones and a dramatically lifted face. While the post-massage glow and reduction in puffiness are real and can last several days, these effects are temporary. Dr Hannah Kopelman, a dermatologist at

New York-based Kopelman Aesthetic Surgery, explains that while “this technique can help reduce swelling and temporarily enhance the skin’s glow, it won’t transform skin firmness or significantly address deep-seated conditions like acne”. So while regular sessions can keep things looking fresh, lymphatic drainage is more gentle facelift than fairy godmother.

Atlanta skincare brands are proving the power of natural formulas

Atlanta skincare brands are proving the power of natural formulas

Elixir no. 1, a comprehensive skin serum

Photograph by Sarah Carpenter

A growing wave of beauty entrepreneurs is bringing skincare back to basics, swapping traditional chemicals for plant-based, organic ingredients, simple formulas, and a “clean beauty” ethos rooted in skin health. Consumers are increasingly scrutinizing labels and demanding transparency, trading formulas full of unpronounceable names for ingredients they recognize.

Once a niche trend, the organic skincare market is predicted to grow by more than $14 billion in the next five years, according to a Mordor Intelligence study. A TikTok search reveals more than 578,000 posts tagged #naturalskincare.

Atlanta brands have been active players in this emerging movement. They are increasingly crafting products that are gentle on the skin and the environment, each with a distinct philosophy on what it means to keep skincare truly natural.

Clear Skin Kit from Averr Aglow

Photograph by Morgan Sangster

Founders of local brand Averr Aglow, Levi and Camille Chulick, came up with the company’s popular Clear Skin Kit after Camille’s 16-year struggle with acne.  “I came to the realization that most of the stuff on the market was treating your skin very harshly,” says Camille Chulick. “It was disrupting your skin barrier more like a war zone, nuking everything, versus the opposite approach that we started testing, which was a very nourishing, strengthening, and calming solution.” Their products include New Zealand Manuka oil to banish bacteria, rose water to reduce redness, and inulin, a prebiotic, to hydrate the skin.

Launched in Atlanta as PÜR Minerals in 2002, PÜR Cosmetics was an early adopter of mineral makeup that emphasized skincare. Made with naturally occurring ground minerals, its products are free of “occlusive” ingredients that clog or irritate skin, such as talc and mineral oils. Instead, shea butter and vitamin E nourish the skin throughout the day, explains Julie Campbell, chief marketing officer of Astral Health & Beauty, the company behind PÜR. “Not only do you look great at the moment, but over time, you see a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, [and] sunspots and get firmer-looking skin,” she says.

Kennesaw-based clean beauty brand LYS, which specializes in skincare-infused makeup tailored to a wide range of skin tones, recently received an eight-figure investment and entry into nearly 2,000 Sephora locations in the United States and abroad. It now has the distinction of being the first Black-owned clean beauty brand at the global retailer. Another local company, Fig & Flower, which focuses on independent clean beauty brands, reopened in Kirkwood this year after closing its Poncey-Highland location more than two years ago.

Newcomer Holy Grail Skin Co. launched in April after Virginia-Highland residents Mary Peck and Leah Matthews grew frustrated with the available options for natural skincare. As working moms with young children, they craved a simple skincare regimen that still emphasized safety and efficacy.

After investing in nearly two years of research and testing, Peck and Matthews released Elixir no. 1, an all-in-one serum designed to enhance natural beauty. Featuring more than 20 vegan ingredients, probiotics, and botanicals, it boasts a plant-based antioxidant and retinol alternative called bakuchiol to stimulate collagen production, which can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

“We wanted it to be easily absorbed, so you can put it on, slather on some sunscreen, and run out the door,” Matthews says. “You can simplify your routine. You can have really great skin and make it easy and attainable.”

The K-Beauty essence that gave me the dewiest skin of my life is 25% off

The K-Beauty essence that gave me the dewiest skin of my life is 25% off

The CosRx snail essence is the best new addition to my skincare routine this year. Despite years of trying, I’ve accepted the fact that I will simply never be a minimalist. This is true of my wardrobe, my apartment (my decor style is closer to your grandma’s attic than the curated bookshelves on Instagram), and my skincare routine. Undeterred by my dermatologist’s warnings to pare down and keep things simple, I’m always taking a more-is-more approach in pursuit of smooth, glowy skin. It has led to some disasters, sure, but it’s also how I stumbled onto CosRX’s Advanced 96 Snail Mucin Power Essence, or CosRx snail essence, put more simply. This cult K-Beauty product did the impossible and streamlined my routine.

If you’re unfamiliar, essences are popular in Korean skincare for their extra moisturising powers, and have made their way Stateside in recent years (SK-II’s is a more obvious, well-known favourite). They can range from a really watery texture to a thicker jelly, and are used after toning and before serums or moisturisers to add extra hydration. They also help your following products absorb even better.

CosRX’s bestselling Advanced 96 Snail Mucin Power Essence has a lightweight texture, but sits closer to the jelly end of the spectrum and feels a little sticky to the touch. Not going to lie: The texture takes some getting used to (mostly because the name of the product and the tackiness made me think of snails crawling on me — a lovely visual), but I got past it quickly once I saw the results. Literally overnight, it transformed my tired, dehydrated skin into a plumper, more dewy complexion I almost didn’t recognise. This was not the skin of someone who stays up late weeks on end to re-binge Sex and the City. I actually looked like a woman who sleeps.

The Snail Mucin Power Essence claims to target wrinkles, acne, dry skin, scarring, and overall brightness — and it’s no lie. I’ve been using it for a little over a month, and it has continued to significantly fade the hyperpigmentation left over from pre-Accutane breakouts, (my top skin concern). Not to mention, it has been great at fighting off winter dryness.

CosRx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence

Now, about the snail. As you’ve probably gathered, the hero ingredient is snail mucin, a.k.a. snail slime. It sounds gross, but it’s a beloved K-beauty ingredient thanks to its superior healing properties, which help calm breakouts and fade. It also contains panthenol, a form of vitamin B5, to hydrate and plump up your skin, which explains my dewy complexion.

As for finally becoming a minimalist, I’ve found this so effective that I’ve been skipping other serums altogether. In the morning, I’ll just wash my face, apply the Snail Mucin Essence while it’s still damp, and throw on a simple moisturiser before applying makeup.

At night, I’ll do the same, adding in oil after the essence and swapping Skin Food for my lightweight moisturiser. I’ll use Pixi Glow Tonic every other night to exfoliate and will add in a vitamin C serum when I remember, but for the most part the Snail Essence is doing the heavy lifting when it comes to pigmentation and hydration.

I’m sure I’ll slip back into my old ways eventually and return to the hunt for the next best thing, but for now, this essence is all I need to keep my skin on track.

The Advanced 96 Snail Mucin Power Essence is currently 25% off at Cult Beauty, making it £20.99 instead of £27.99. You can also pick it up for £19.59 at LookFantastic and on Amazon.

Opinion | There should be age limits on anti-aging skincare

Opinion | There should be age limits on anti-aging skincare

Children should be scared of witches, goblins and ghosts — not their own reflection.

Have you ever been ID’d while trying to purchase NyQuil? It may be annoying, but NyQuil contains dangerous ingredients for children if they were to get their hands on it. When taken in large doses, NyQuil can negatively impact your health. In order to avoid a variety of harmful situations, there are age-limit restrictions in place to protect everyone involved.

Just as a product as simple as NyQuil can be dangerous when in the wrong hands, many modern skincare products intended to reduce or reverse aging contain extremely harmful chemicals and ingredients. A child or preteen’s skin barrier is much thinner than that of an adult, so products are formulated differently based on age. Products designed for this type of mature skin can strip children’s barriers, leading to dry, itchy, peeling, irritated and red skin.

Active ingredients such as retinoids, high-strength alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acids and even high concentrations of vitamin C are too harsh for children, who are still growing and developing. Retinoids in particular can even increase sun sensitivity, leading to even more damage.

Children’s skin has enough collagen and elastin that they don’t even need this type of skincare, let alone a complicated skin routine. The exact look and feel that older people strive to get back is what children already have. However, if children continue to beg their parents for whatever skin care product is trending, their skin may be permanently damaged.

It’s not the children’s fault, either. Influencers are known for promoting products intended for older people to their younger audiences. While influencers may have a brand deal and are just doing their job, the age of their audience is well known, and it is unethical to be marketing these products on the internet with that prior knowledge.

Think about it — if you’re a kid watching your favorite beauty channel, and a pretty young woman who most definitely has filler tells you that you, too, can look like her if you just purchase this moisturizer, you’d probably fall for it. Promising a child they’ll look 25 by using these few skincare products lures children into the trap of being influenced, despite the actual target market of the product.

The problem with this issue is that parents are also unaware of the danger these products actually hold. Unless you are researching each and every product for your child, what’s the difference between an eyeshadow palette and a face wash? Certainly, anything your child can find in Sephora is safe, right?

The steps to protecting young children from these deceptively harmful products start with regulation. If NyQuil’s age of purchase can be determined by each individual state, why can’t Glow Recipe’s Blackberry Retinol Blemish Serum? Teenagers should be ID’d when purchasing, and when parents purchase, they should have to sign something stating they’re aware that the ingredients are intended for mature skin. Even if you are purchasing the product for yourself, it is just one extra click of a button — a small price to pay to keep a dangerous product out of the hands of kids.

Societal beauty standards push this image of “perfect” so far onto women that insecurity and fear start young. Learning what a “blemish” is implies there is something wrong with you if your skin is not “blemish free.” The modern fear of aging has clawed its way all the way down, so actual children think they need to fix their skin. Even in the best case scenarios, children who actually understand what anti-aging products are use them in hopes of preventing signs of aging from occurring. An eight year old should be worrying about when their next playdate with their best friend will be, not what their skin will look like in 20 years.

We can’t pretend youth is both a commodity and a burden and expect kids not to break over the contradiction. Setting age limits means choosing their childhoods over our insecurities.

Πώς συνδυάζονται πολλοί οροί προσώπου σε μία ρουτίνα;

Πώς συνδυάζονται πολλοί οροί προσώπου σε μία ρουτίνα;

Οροί προσώπου: Πώς συνδυάζονται σωστά σε μία ρουτίνα;

IG @hannaschonberg

The Ultimate Indian Skincare Routine: Experts Reveal What Actually Works | Beauty News

From relentless humidity and harsh sun exposure to urban pollution, pigmentation, and seasonal dryness, Indian skin is constantly adapting.

Indian skincare should be gentle and climate-specific.

Indian skin behaves like the climate it lives in – beautiful, resilient, but constantly adapting. One day it glows, the next it rebels. Between harsh sunlight, humidity, pollution, and erratic seasonal swings, no single routine works year-round. What does help is a thoughtful, minimal approach anchored in comfort, consistency, and climate readiness. The perfect Indian skincare routine isn’t about 10 steps or global trends. It’s about listening to your skin and choosing products that support and not shock the skin barrier.

A Routine Shaped By Climate

Experts unanimously agree that any effective Indian skincare routine begins with understanding the environment. As Malini Adapureddy, Founder & CEO of Deconstruct, puts it, “Our climate shapes our skin. Most Indians naturally have oily or combination skin, which means lightweight, non-clogging formulas and the right actives are essential.” She emphasises that harsh products do more harm than good. “Using strong products thinking they’ll work faster weakens the barrier. A gentle routine that supports your skin is far more beneficial in the long run,” she adds.

Dr. Shalini Dubey, Medical Affairs Manager at Iberia Pharmaceuticals, echoes this, noting the need to adjust products with changing conditions. From Delhi’s dry winters to Mumbai’s coastal humidity, she explains that small tweaks, like swapping gel moisturisers for richer creams during colder months, help maintain balance. “Sunscreen is non-negotiable. Even on cloudy days, UV rays penetrate through windows and haze,” she stresses.

Dr. Mili Sinha, Aesthetic Physician at La Clinique and expert at Oteria, notes that Indian skin deserves routines crafted specifically for the region. “A perfect routine isn’t about copying global trends. With intense sun, humidity, and pollution, we must choose products suited to Indian conditions so the skin becomes healthier and more resilient,” she says.

Building The Ideal Indian Skincare Routine

1. Start with a gentle cleanse – Pollution, sweat, and dust cling to the skin, making cleansing essential, but never harsh. Look for soothing ingredients like aloe vera, niacinamide, or salicylic acid to purify without stripping.

2. Hydrate strategically – Gel moisturisers work best for oily and combination skin, while richer creams suit dry or mature skin. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamins A and E, and niacinamide help maintain hydration in heat and humidity.

3. Add targeted serums – Vitamin C brightens and fights pollution-induced dullness; niacinamide strengthens the barrier and fades marks; retinol or retinal improves texture when used slowly. Bakuchiol offers a gentler alternative for sensitive skin.

4. Protect with sunscreen daily – SPF 30 or higher with PA++++ protection is essential in a tropical climate. Lightweight formulas with soothing botanicals prevent tanning, spots, and premature ageing.

5. Exfoliate with care – Skip physical scrubs. Opt for once-a-week chemical exfoliation using lactic, glycolic, or salicylic acid. Overdoing it leads to pigmentation and irritation, which is an especially common concern in Indian skin.

6. Adapt your routine seasonally – Light, breathable products suit summer and monsoon, while winter demands barrier-repairing creams to combat dryness and flaking.

Great skin in India doesn’t come from complicated routines. It comes from consistency, gentle care, climate awareness, and patience. When your skin feels overwhelmed, simplify. When the weather changes, adjust. With the right foundation, Indian skin thrives naturally, no filters required.
