Dermatologist shares 7 skincare habits and products for glowing skin: Know her top picks for face, elbows and underarms

Achieving skin that looks glowing, healthy and noticeably well cared for has less to do with fancy packaging and far more to do with steady use of ingredients that actually help the skin function better. Dermatologist Dr Manasi Shirolikar often reminds her social media followers through her Instagram posts that real skin improvement usually comes from small steps that support tone, texture, and hydration in straightforward ways. Many of these steps may seem mundane, but they focus on improving your skin and help you achieve glass skin at home. These habits target common concerns, such as dull patches, dry spots, uneven tone on the elbow, underarms, knees, and early signs of ageing.

Each of the products she shares has an ingredient with detailed research behind it, applied in a way that makes the most sense for the skin. Dr Manasi breaks down seven ingredient-focused habits, explaining the reasoning behind each, and offers product suggestions so you can add these steps to your routine with ease.

7 dermat-approved ingredients to help you achieve healthy, glowing skin:

1. Kojic Acid Moisturiser

Targets melanin production and inhibits the enzyme tyrosinase, resulting in a more uniform skin tone, as reported by Cosmetic Journal (MDPI, 2022). Dr Manasi discusses how uneven tone on joints should not be neglected and suggests that using a kojic-based cream can help achieve smoother, radiant-looking joints and elbows.

This kojic and kesar body lotion helps support a more even look on areas like elbows and knees. The blend of kojic acid and niacinamide works on patchy tone, while the moisturising base keeps skin soft through the day. Its light texture spreads easily, making it simple to use after a shower for smoother, brighter-looking skin.

Focus: Uneven pigmentation, dark knees, and elbows.

2. Glycerin-rich toner

Glycerin is a strong moisture-binding ingredient that draws water from the surrounding environment into the skin, leaving it softer and more hydrated, as reported by the International Journal of Cosmetic Science. Dr Manasi suggests that it feels sticky for 30 seconds but gives glass skin energy for 12 hours. Tried finding the 6-peptide skin booster from COSRX suggested by her on Amazon, but it wasn’t listed, so check out a similar peptide serum instead.

This serum is ideal for anyone seeking to support firmness while maintaining comfortably hydrated skin. The lightweight texture settles quickly and layers well under daily routines. The mix of peptides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid helps smooth early lines and maintain a supple feel through the day. It’s a helpful pick for dry, dull, or tired skin that needs steady moisture and improved bounce.

Focus: Dehydration, dullness, texture enhancement

3. Salicylic acid cleanser

1% Salicylic Acid (BHA) is an oil-soluble exfoliant that penetrates deep into the pore lining to dissolve oil and dead skin cells, which is essential for preventative maintenance, as reported by the BMJ journal. Dr Manasi uses this even when she doesn’t have acne, because according to her, clear pores mean healthy-looking skin.

This gentle cleanser is a game-changer for rough, bumpy skin. Infused with 1% salicylic acid, it helps clear clogged pores while ceramides support the skin’s barrier. Hyaluronic acid adds lightweight hydration, leaving your skin feeling clean but not stripped. Perfect for dry or textured skin that needs both smoothing and moisture.

Focus: Clogged pores, texture issues, preemptive acne control.

4. Glycolic acid toner

A water-soluble acid that exfoliates the surface layer, promoting brighter, smoother skin and helping control odour-causing bacteria, as reported by the National Library of Medicine. Dr Manasi suggest using it on the armpits for brighter and smoother underarms. Tried finding the glycolic acid toner suggested by her on Amazon, but it wasn’t listed, so check out a similar one instead.

This glycolic acid toner supports gentle skin renewal with an 8% AHA concentration, helping fade dullness and uneven patches. Infused with bamboo water, this product refreshes, hydrates, and exfoliates for a soft, balanced glow. Lightweight and multi-functional, it works well on the face, body, underarms or scalp without causing harsh dryness.

Focus: Rough texture, odour, and discolouration in the underarms.

5. Retinol

A gold-standard retinoid that stimulates cell turnover and collagen production, offering powerful preventative and corrective ageing defence. Dr Manasi suggests putting it around the mouth because that’s where ageing shows first.

This eye serum combines ginseng and retinol to help firm, brighten, and smooth the under-eye area. Retinal supports cell turnover and collagen, while ginseng provides antioxidant protection and improves texture. The lightweight, fast-absorbing formula targets fine lines and dark circles without leaving a heavy feel. Ideal for those wanting a smart, science-meets-tradition solution for ageing eyes.

Focus: Fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth (a high-movement, early-ageing zone).

6. Lactic acid serum

Lactic acid (an AHA) gently exfoliates the skin’s surface by loosening dead skin cells, and it also supports the skin barrier by boosting natural moisturising factors and ceramide production that help skin feel smoother, more even, and hydrated, as reported by the International Journal of Cosmetic Science. Dr Manasi advises applying lactic acid serum to damp skin for a more radiant glow.

This 10ml gentle exfoliating serum blends lactic acid and natural fruit-derived acids to help smooth and brighten the skin. It works exceptionally when applied to slightly damp, freshly cleansed skin, as this boosts even absorption without irritation. Use it a few times a week to maintain a soft glow, gently reduce dull patches, and support overall skin texture.

Focus: Helps hydrate skin by increasing ceramide production

7. Cica Balm Slugging

It calms inflammation, while the thick balm forms an occlusive seal, locking in moisture and active ingredients for intensive barrier repair, as reported by the National Library of Medicine.

Dr Manasi says using a thick Cica balm as a full-face slug mask once a week, wakes up with a glow.

This rich protective cream is ideal for anyone with dry, irritated, or compromised skin. Infused with post-biotic actives, it calms redness while strengthening the barrier. Apply a thin layer to cleansed skin morning and night, once a week (or as advised by a dermatologist), to lock in moisture, soothe inflammation, and help your skin recover within two days.

Focus: Overnight skin recovery, fighting winter dryness, minimising transepidermal water loss (TEWL)

Fish DNA facial injections gain popularity in the skincare trend

Fish DNA facial injections gain popularity in the skincare trend

Facial injections using fish DNA, known as polynucleotides, are becoming a popular skincare trend.

LONDON, Nov 27: Facial injections derived from fish DNA, often referred to as polynucleotides, are rapidly gaining popularity as a new skincare trend, promising skin rejuvenation, collagen production, and reduction of fine lines and acne scars.

The treatment, which uses tiny DNA fragments extracted from trout or salmon sperm, is designed to stimulate the body’s skin cells to produce collagen and elastin, essential proteins for maintaining skin structure. Patients undergoing the procedure hope for healthier, fresher, and more youthful-looking skin.

A young client at a south Manchester aesthetics clinic received injections in her lower face as part of a treatment aimed at reducing acne scarring and improving skin texture. “I just want to target those problem areas,” she said, noting that the procedure was “pretty painful” but effective in improving hydration and tightness.

Polynucleotide treatments have attracted attention after endorsements from celebrities including Charli XCX, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, and Jennifer Aniston. Charli XCX described them as “kinda like deep vitamins” for the skin, while the Kardashians reportedly incorporated the injections into their skincare routines.

Industry experts note the treatments may enhance regenerative skincare. Suzanne Mansfield of aesthetics company Dermafocus said, “All we are doing is enhancing something the body already does. That’s why these are so special.” Clinical trials suggest polynucleotides can potentially reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and scars, although effects vary from person to person.

However, the treatment comes at a high cost, with sessions ranging from £200 to £500 each and multiple treatments recommended over several weeks, followed by periodic top-ups every six to nine months.

While generally considered safe when administered by trained professionals, experts caution that the science is still developing. Consultant dermatologist Dr. John Pagliaro of Brisbane said, “We do not have good, strong data. More large-scale studies are needed to confirm safety and efficacy.”

Some patients have experienced adverse effects. Charlotte Bickley, 31, reported inflammation, skin infection, and darker under-eye circles after receiving the treatment prior to her wedding. “I would never have salmon DNA injected into my face again,” she said, highlighting risks when procedures are not performed correctly.

Regulatory oversight varies. In the UK, polynucleotides are registered as medical devices by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) but are not regulated like medicines. They are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Industry representatives warn that untested products entering the market could pose safety risks.

Dr. Sophie Shotter, president of the British College of Aesthetic Medicine, emphasized that while polynucleotides are available to provide natural-looking results, “they are not a panacea” and other established treatments may have stronger scientific backing. She added that patient responses to cosmetic treatments remain highly individual.

The trend reflects a growing interest in regenerative and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, but experts stress that consumers should carefully consider risks, efficacy, and the credentials of practitioners before undergoing treatment.

Makeup Expert Namrata Soni Disagrees With 10-Step Skincare Routine, Says ‘You’re Just Adding Sweat’ | Beauty News

Makeup Expert Namrata Soni Disagrees With 10-Step Skincare Routine, Says ‘You’re Just Adding Sweat’ | Beauty News

Last Updated:November 27, 2025, 11:55 IST

Namrata Soni shares why it’s important to start a skincare routine at a certain age and explains why the popular ten-step beauty regimen isn’t practical in India.

Makeup artist Namrata Soni gets candid about skincare and beauty treatments

Celebrity makeup expert Namrata Soni has reignited the conversation around modern beauty standards, emphasising that global skincare trends don’t always align with Indian skin types and climate conditions.

During a discussion with ANI, she reflected on the changing expectations within the beauty industry and touched upon the widespread influence of Botox, fillers and digital filters in shaping today’s ideas of “flawless” skin.

Soni explained that India’s high humidity levels, combined with daily lifestyle factors, make elaborate multi-step routines impractical for many people. Sharing her professional perspective, she said, “We live in a country where the 10-step skincare routine does not work because we have a lot of humidity. So that means after step one itself, you’re perspiring. Imagine you’re putting that on, then you’re sweating, then you’re putting on another. So you’re like literally putting sweat between each layer of your skin. It’s crazy. Just keep it simple. Cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen and eye cream at night. That’s all you need.”

Influence of Filters, Botox and Cosmetic Procedures on Beauty Expectations

Soni further pointed out how social media’s filtered perfection and accessible cosmetic procedures have reshaped what is now considered “normal” or “ideal” skin. According to her, the pressure to always appear camera-ready has increased significantly.

Addressing the impact of these technological and cosmetic enhancements, she stated, “We live in a world of Botox and fillers and surgeries. It’s so easy with lasers and CO2 to have that kind of skin today.”

Why Indians Age Differently: Soni Explains The Role Of Elasticity And Melanin

Soni also highlighted that Indian skin, which naturally contains more melanin and elasticity, often ages more slowly compared to Western skin types. Because of this, she believes that starting a skincare routine too early is unnecessary and can even be counterproductive.

She clarified her stance, noting, “Mid-20s is when you start a skincare routine. I mean, people have started at 16 and 14, which I don’t understand. I don’t understand girls going to Sephora and buying skincare at 14 and 16. But I would say like 23, 24. And it does not have to be a crazy routine. It just could be an amazing moisturiser meant for your skin type and a lip balm and a sunscreen.”

Creating Netra Mantena’s Royal Bridal Look in Udaipur

Most recently, Namrata Soni crafted the breathtaking bridal look of Netra Mantena, daughter of Orlando-based billionaires Padmaja and Rama Raju Mantena. Netra tied the knot with Vamsi Gadiraju, co-founder of Superorder, in a lavish wedding celebration held in Udaipur. Soni crafted a delicate yet regal makeup look that highlighted Netra’s natural beauty while perfectly complementing her striking red lehenga.

Namrata Soni’s Journey: From Industry Challenges To A Celeb Favourite

Renowned for her refined techniques, signature soft-glam looks and dedication to her craft, Namrata Soni has built an impressive career working with some of Bollywood’s biggest names – Sonakshi Sinha, Sonam Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Twinkle Khanna and more.

In another conversation with ANI, she opened up about the initial hurdles she faced while entering a field that was once predominantly male-driven. Despite the challenges, she succeeded with the encouragement of leading stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Karan Johar, who recognised her talent early in her journey.

Over the years, Soni has earned multiple accolades, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. She also secured an IIFA Award for her acclaimed ageing makeup work in Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic film Om Shanti Om.

Winter skincare alert: 8 morning habits that may be drying out your skin and causing premature ageing

Winter skincare alert: 8 morning habits that may be drying out your skin and causing premature ageing

Winter brings a welcome chill. But for your skin, it can be a season of silent damage. The drop in temperature and humidity disrupts the skin barrier, making it more prone to dryness, sensitivity, and premature ageing. However, what many people don’t realise is that some everyday morning habits may be exacerbating these issues, often without any obvious signs until the damage has accumulated.

If you have been making these morning skincare mistakes, time to wake up(Pexels)

How to prevent dry skin in winter

Dermatologist Dr Bindu Sthalekar, founder of Skin Smart Solutions, and Dr Shweta Tripathi, dermatologist, aesthetic injector, and founder of My Skindom, tell HT ShopNow that several common morning skincare habits may be drying out your skin and contributing to premature ageing.

But these can be prevented by avoiding some unhealthy skincare habits in winter.

1. Washing your face with hot water

A steaming-hot splash may feel comforting, but heat strips away essential lipids and ceramides from the skin barrier. “Hot water accelerates transepidermal water loss, leaving skin dry, rough, and vulnerable to fine lines”, says Dr Tripathi. Hot water also strips the skin’s natural moisture barrier and triggers inflammation, which speeds up collagen loss, explains Dr Sthalekar. Both dermatologists recommend switching to lukewarm water that cleans effectively without disrupting the skin’s natural moisture balance.

2. Starting the day without a moisturiser

Skipping moisturiser is a big no. Dr Tripathi explains why:“Overnight, the skin loses moisture and needs replenishment. Opt for barrier-supporting ingredients like ceramides, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and peptides, especially in winter.” She also recommends applying a moisturiser within 60 seconds of cleansing to trap moisture effectively. Dr Sthalekar says, “Choose a cream over a gel if you live in a dry environment or spend most of your time in heated spaces”.

3. Applying vitamin C without moisture or SPF

“Vitamin C serums are more potent in 2025 formulations, but they can be drying or irritating when applied to freshly cleansed skin, and can increase photosensitivity and irritation when applied without a sunscreen”, says Dr Tripathi. She also recommends applying a hydrating serum before vitamin C with broad-spectrum SPF 30+.

4. Using harsh or foaming cleansers

Using high-foam, sulphate-based cleansers may leave your skin squeaky clean, but that tightness is a sign of barrier damage. “Over time, this leads to irritation, dullness, and accelerated ageing, so replace them with a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser that cleans without stripping, ”Dr Sthalekar suggests.

5. Overusing caffeinated drinks before hydrating

“Morning coffee culture is huge, especially high-caffeine cold brews. But drinking caffeine before water can leave your skin dehydrated and looking dull throughout the day,” Dr Tripathi, tells HT ShopNow. Instead, she recommends drinking at least one glass of water before your morning caffeine.

6. Forgetting sunscreen just because it’s cold

Ultraviolet rays don’t hibernate for winter. In fact, UVA, the wavelength responsible for DNA damage and ageing, remains constant year-round. Pair sunscreen with antioxidants for enhanced protection, especially in polluted urban environments.

7. Applying active ingredients to dry skin

Try to reduce using retinoids, acids, and exfoliating serums as they can become harsher on your skin in winter, suggests Dr Sthalekar. Applying them on dry, dehydrated skin amplifies irritation, and sometimes micro-inflammation is a major driver of premature ageing. The best way to include these serums and acids is to layer them strategically.

“If irritation persists, apply every alternate night or use short-contact therapy. This ensures results without compromising the skin barrier”, she asserts.

8. Relying on SPF in makeup instead of actual sunscreen

“Tinted moisturisers and foundations now boast higher SPF levels, but they still don’t provide enough coverage on their own,” Dr Tripathi says. Inadequate sun protection remains the number 1 cause of premature skin ageing. So, she recommends always applying a dedicated sunscreen every morning.

Dr Sthalekar says winter skincare isn’t about adding more steps, it’s about choosing the right ones and doing them mindfully. Small morning changes can preserve skin elasticity, prevent premature ageing, and support a stronger, healthier skin barrier through the season.

Body Studio Skincare ‘restores spirits’ with free facials, wellness shots

Body Studio Skincare ‘restores spirits’ with free facials, wellness shots

Michelle Vernon, CEO of Body Studio Skincare, performs a facial treatment on a client during the medical spa’s hurricane relief effort initiative earlier this week.

Citing its desire to restore spirits following Hurricane Melissa, Body Studio Skincare this week gave back to Jamaicans affected by the storm by providing free facial treatments and wellness shots valued hundreds of thousands of dollars.

At its medical spa in St Andrew, the company performed over 50 free facials, each valued from J$10,450 to J$13,000, totaling more than J$550,000 in facial treatments.

It also administered over 30 free wellness shots, including glutathione shots, NAD shots, and B12 shots.

The initiative saw the spa welcoming long-time clients, new faces, and even visitors who traveled all the way from hurricane-ravaged St Elizabeth to be a part of the special day of healing.

Body Studio Skincare administered over 30 free wellness shots during its hurricane relief initiative.

“Our community was hurting, and we knew we had a responsibility to show up,” Michelle Vernon, CEO of Body Studio Skincare, said.

“Hurricane Melissa devastated the western region, leaving many without light, water, stability, and even hope,” she continued.” At Body Studio Skincare, we have always believed that wellness goes far beyond beauty; it is about dignity, confidence, and compassion.”

She said the company was grateful for the love, support and community spirit shown during the relief effort, and also expressed gratitude to her dedicated staff whose hard work and commitment made the event possible.

Michelle Vernon (second right), CEO of Body Studio Skincare , with members of her staff. Solar fans, lanterns and power banks were provided to the staff along with care packages that were given days after the hurricane.

“Giving back during this time was not optional — it was necessary. Our staff, clients, and fellow Jamaicans have supported us for over 10 years, and this initiative was our way of serving them in return,” Vernon said. “Providing free facials and wellness shots may seem small, but for many people it offered a moment of relief, a chance to breathe, and a reminder that they are cared for.

“We wanted to restore more than skin — we wanted to help restore spirits. That’s the heart of Body Studio, and that’s why this initiative was so important to us,” she said.

Namrata Soni on modern skincare trends

10-step Routine Does Not Work: Celebrity Makeup Artist Namrata Soni’s Hot Take on Modern Skincare Trends

Celebrity makeup artist Namrata Soni sparked a vital conversation on modern-day beauty standards, stressing that India’s weather conditions, lifestyles, and skin types may have made the much-followed “10-step skincare routine” unsuitable for many people.
In a conversation with ANI, Namrata, while reflecting on the industry’s evolving expectations, also mentioned the rise of “botox and filters”.
“We live in a country where the 10-step skincare routine does not work because we have a lot of humidity. So that means after step one itself, you’re perspiring. Imagine you’re putting that on, then you’re sweating, then you’re putting on another. So you’re like literally putting sweat between each layer of your skin. It’s crazy. Just keep it simple. Cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen, and eye cream at night. That’s all you need,” Namrata said.
Noting that heavy filter culture has created pressure on people to constantly appear flawless, Namrata added, “We live in a world of Botox and fillers and surgeries. It’s so easy with lasers and CO2 to have that kind of skin today.”
She emphasised how Indians with a lot of elasticity and melatonin in their skin don’t face the quick wrath of ageing, which she explained requires women to start a proper skincare routine from their mid-20s.
“Mid-20s is when you start a skincare routine. I mean, people have started at 16 and 14, which I don’t understand. I don’t understand girls going to Sephora and buying skincare at 14 and 16. But I would say like 23, 24. And it does not have to be a crazy routine. It just could be an amazing moisturiser meant for your skin type and a lip balm, and a sunscreen,” she said.
A renowned makeup artist, Namrata Soni, is known for working alongside several Bollywood celebrities like Sonakshi Sinha, Rani Mukerji, Sonam Kapoor, Twinkle Khanna, and others.
In the most recent, Namrata also created the stunning bridal look for Netra Mantena.

Personalised Skin Protocols: Why One-Size-Fits-All Skincare Doesn’t Work Anymore | Beauty News

Personalised Skin Protocols: Why One-Size-Fits-All Skincare Doesn’t Work Anymore | Beauty News

Last Updated:November 26, 2025, 13:59 IST

Dermatologist explains why one-size-fits-all routines fail and how personalised skincare protocols are transforming skin health, longevity, and results.

No two skins are identical. Your genes, hormones, climate, stress levels, diet, sleep, and past treatments all shape how your skin behaves and ages

Personalised skin protocols are no longer a luxury; they are fast becoming the only sensible way to care for skin in 2025. As Dr Jaspreet Kour, Dermatologist, Mediglo explains, “I see every day how ‘one size fits all’ skincare fails real people with real, unique skin.”

Why one routine can’t suit all

No two skins are identical. Your genes, hormones, climate, stress levels, diet, sleep, and past treatments all shape how your skin behaves and ages. Yet, mass-market routines still group everyone into broad labels like dry, oily, or sensitive and sell the same formulas to millions.

This is why some people break out with a “universal” moisturizer, others develop irritation from popular actives, and many feel they are constantly switching products without lasting results.

Global beauty trends clearly show a move towards hyper-personalisation. Brands and clinics are using tools like AI skin analysis, lifestyle questionnaires, and even DNA-based insights to design routines tailored to an individual’s skin biology, environment, and goals.

At the same time, there is a shift from quick fixes to “skin longevity” focusing on keeping skin healthy, resilient, and functional for as long as possible, rather than simply chasing the next anti-ageing cream. This means modern skincare is becoming more medical, data-driven, and prevention-focused.

From ‘anti-ageing’ to skin longevity

The conversation has moved beyond lines and wrinkles to the deeper science of how skin ages. New research highlights the importance of protecting DNA, reducing chronic inflammation, supporting the skin barrier, and encouraging repair at a cellular level.

Evidence-based skin longevity protocols typically combine daily sun protection, antioxidants, and retinoids with targeted in-clinic treatments like lasers and energy devices, adjusted to an individual’s age, skin type, and tolerance.

Tailored personalised protocols

At Mediglo Clinic, Dr Jaspreet Kour emphasises that the starting point is never a product, it is the person. Each protocol is built after a detailed analysis of skin type, concerns (acne, pigmentation, rosacea, ageing, sensitivity), medical history, lifestyle, and local environmental stressors such as UV and pollution.

Depending on the case, a patient’s plan may integrate dermatology (for conditions like acne or eczema), medical-grade skincare, aesthetic treatments, and wellness interventions such as nutrition, sleep, and stress management to support skin from within. This integrated model aligns with global trends where dermatology, aesthetics, wellness, and longevity are converging into one continuum of care.

Why personalised care matters now

The personalised skincare market is projected to grow rapidly over the coming decade, reflecting how strongly people are demanding solutions that respect their individuality. Relying on a generic routine in this era is like wearing someone else’s prescription glasses and expecting perfect vision.

As Dr Kour shares, “My message is simple: your skin deserves a protocol as unique as you are. When skincare is personalised, it stops being trial-and-error and becomes a clear, scientific roadmap towards long-term skin health and confidence.”

Winter Skincare Simplified: Experts Share How To Keep Your Skin Healthy, Hydrated And Radiant | Health and Fitness News

Winter Skincare Myths You Need to Stop Believing | Beauty News

Last Updated:November 26, 2025, 11:22 IST

Winter skincare is not about heavier products or seasonal fads, it’s about understanding your skin’s changing needs and strengthening its natural barrier

Discover the truth behind common winter skincare myths as experts debunk misconceptions about moisturisers, SPF, hot showers, lip care, hair care, and barrier health.

As temperatures drop and humidity levels dip, winter brings a familiar challenge: dry, irritated skin and the urge to overhaul one’s skincare routine. But alongside these seasonal changes comes a flurry of misinformation, myths passed down through habits, assumptions, and half-truths. To help decode what’s true and what’s not, we spoke to two industry experts, Nitin Jain, founder, La Pink, and Aromatherapist Divita Kanoria, founder, TATHA.

Together, they debunk some of the most common winter skincare myths and explain what your skin really needs during the colder months.

Myth 1: “My summer routine works in winter too.”

Many believe that if a routine works in summer, it should work in winter as well. But as Nitin Jain explains, the skin’s needs change significantly with the weather. He notes that colder air pulls moisture from the skin, weakening the barrier and accelerating dryness. While gentle cleansers and basic hydrators may work year-round, winter typically requires richer, barrier-repairing ingredients like ceramides, shea butter, hyaluronic acid, and nourishing oils.

He also emphasises lip care, one of the most neglected aspects of winter routines. La Pink’s balms enriched with shea butter and plant oils were designed specifically to combat seasonal lip dehydration.

Myth 2: “I don’t need moisturiser if my skin doesn’t feel dry.”

Dryness often begins at the cellular level, long before you can feel or see it. Jain explains that preventative moisturisation is essential to reduce micro-damage caused by low humidity.

He highlights ingredients like kokum butter, sunflower oil, avocado extracts, and other nutrient-rich plant oils used in La Pink formulations. These not only lock in moisture but also strengthen the skin’s natural lipid barrier to prevent future dryness. Using a nourishing face wash and a hydrating body lotion consistently helps keep the skin smooth, resilient, and protected throughout winter.

Myth 3: “You don’t need sunscreen in winter.”

According to Divita Kanoria, this is one of the most harmful winter myths. UV rays remain constant year-round and can even intensify when reflected off cold surfaces. Skipping sunscreen accelerates pigmentation, wrinkles, and premature ageing, even on cloudy days.

Kanoria stresses that SPF should be a non-negotiable step, regardless of season.

Myth 4: “Thicker creams are always better in winter”

A heavy texture does not automatically mean better hydration. Kanoria explains that what the skin truly needs is barrier-strengthening ingredients, not greasy formulas. Ceramides, plant stem cells, and peptides support repair and hydration without clogging pores.

Often, a lightweight but well-designed cream performs far better than a thick, occlusive one.

Myth 5: “Hot showers hydrate the skin”

Long, steaming showers may feel comforting, but they strip the skin of natural oils, leaving it dry and irritated. Kanoria advises opting for lukewarm water and moisturising immediately after bathing while the skin is still damp to lock in hydration effectively.

Myth 6: “Lips don’t need separate care”

Lips lose moisture faster than any other area of the face. Jain recommends using a lip balm enriched with Vitamin E, shea butter, licorice oil, and nourishing plant extracts to keep them soft and protected throughout winter.

Myth 7: “Hair doesn’t need extra nourishment in winter”

Cold winds disrupt hair cuticles, causing frizz and breakage. Jain suggests incorporating a methi-dana–infused hair oil to strengthen roots and restore smoothness.

Myth 8: “Only dry skin needs winter care”

Winter impacts all skin types including oily and combination skin. Jain explains that cold weather weakens the lipid barrier universally, increasing moisture loss even in oily skin. This can lead to flakiness, whiteheads, and purging.

La Pink’s winter formulations, he notes, are based not only on science but also on customer feedback. Ingredients like white haldi, kukum butter, cactus flower extracts, and cold-pressed plant oils help balance oil production while maintaining hydration meeting European quality standards for clean beauty.

Myth 9: “Winter dryness is only seasonal”

Kanoria clarifies that winter simply magnifies underlying concerns like dehydration, barrier weakness, or inflammation. Treating the root cause not just the weather is key to maintaining healthy skin.

Winter skincare is not about heavier products or seasonal fads, it’s about understanding your skin’s changing needs and strengthening its natural barrier. As both experts conclude, a targeted, ingredient-driven routine offers far better results than relying on outdated myths.

This season, ditch the misconceptions and embrace skincare that genuinely supports your skin and hair through colder months.
