greek yogurt bagels

High Protein Greek Yogurt Bagels (Perfect For Breakfast!)

My kids are old enough that they can make their own breakfast now, but we still enjoy eating together as a family. Learning how to cook is a great skill for kids to learn that benefits the whole family! These simple Greek yogurt bagels are easy enough that even kids can make them, and they’re perfect for a quick breakfast.

Bagels are one of those foods on store shelves that are stuffed full of artificial ingredients. And if you’re lucky enough to have a made-from-scratch artisan bagel shop near you, they can get pricey. Homemade bagels give you the option of having great taste with high quality ingredients. And they taste so much better!

Greek Yogurt Bagel Ingredients

We don’t eat a ton of grains in our house, but I’ve incorporated some organic grains into my diet. Some Greek yogurt bagel recipes are made with bread flour or with almond flour. This particular recipe uses Einkorn flour. It’s naturally a little higher in protein and lower in carbs than modern, hybridized wheat.

You can buy Einkorn online, but many health food stores and grocery stores sell it too. If you don’t have any, then regular organic, all-purpose flour will also work. And if you need a gluten-free bagel option, then go with your favorite gluten-free flour blend.

Regular bagels are made with yeast to give them some rise. These are much faster to make since they skip the yeast and the rising time. Greek yogurt is naturally acidic and reacts with the baking powder to give the dough that familiar bagel texture.

I use an egg wash on top to give the bagels a better texture and color. However, if you need to avoid eggs, you can omit them and make the bagels without.

How To Use Greek Yogurt Bagels

Greek yogurt bagels are really easy to whip up, but I’ll often make a batch the night before. Try them along with breakfast or as part of a breakfast sandwich. We like toasting them for sandwiches or eating them slathered with some grass-fed butter or cream cheese.

They also make great BLTs, sausage egg and cheese sandwiches, or try some sliced meat, cheese, and lettuce for lunch. My kids like these so much, they were all gone before they had even cooled!

Greek Yogurt Bagel Recipe

These delicious bagels are simple and quick to make. Great for sandwiches, breakfast, or slathered with cream cheese.

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  • Add in the Greek yogurt and mix with a fork until crumbly.

  • Knead with your hands until it forms a smooth dough (about 1–2 minutes).

  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface.

  • Divide into 6 equal pieces. Each should weigh roughly 120–130 grams for full-size bagels.

  • Roll each piece into a 7–8 inch rope and connect the ends to form a bagel shape.

  • Place on the baking sheet and brush with the beaten egg for shine and browning.

  • Bake for 22–26 minutes, or until golden and puffed. Optional: Broil for 1–2 minutes for extra color.

  • Let cool for at least 10 minutes. This helps the bagels finish setting and improves the texture.

  • If the dough is too sticky, add 1–2 tablespoons of flour while kneading. If it’s dry, add 1 tablespoon of yogurt at a time.

Different Bagel Flavor Options

You can really play with the base recipe and make lots of different bagel flavors. Here are some of our favorites!

  • Everything Bagel – Sprinkle everything seasoning on top before baking.
  • Cinnamon Raisin – Add 1 TBSP coconut sugar, ½ tsp cinnamon, and  ? cup raisins to the dough.
  • Garlic & Herb – Add 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning and  ½ tsp garlic powder.
  • Cheddar Chive – Fold in ½ cup shredded cheese and 1 tbsp chopped chives.
  • Jalapeño Cheddar – Fold in 1–2 finely diced jalapeños (seeds optional)  and ½ cup shredded cheddar.

What Kind of Yogurt Should I Use?

Greek yogurt is naturally thicker and higher in protein than regular yogurt. I prefer to use whole milk or full-fat Greek yogurt in these to give the dough a better texture. You can use no-fat or 2% Greek yogurt, but the dough won’t be quite as good

How Much Protein is in Greek Yogurt Bagels?

The protein content is a little over 11 grams of protein per bagel if you use organic or Einkorn flour. Gluten-free flour blends will vary in their protein content. Einkorn is also naturally lower in carbs than the typical, modern wheat flour.

Cooking and Storage Tips

These bake in the oven in about 22-26 minutes. You can also use the air fryer and cook them at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes or just until they start to turn golden brown.

Their shelf life is about 3 days when stored in an airtight container. They also taste just as good the next day and you can freeze them for later.

Best time to apply skincare products for maximum results

Best time to apply skincare products for maximum results

Optimal times to use skincare products for optimal results: How to align routine with skin’s natural rhythms for healthy, glowing skin?

Have you ever wondered why skincare products come with instructions on how and when to use them? It might seem like a marketing trick, especially if you spent a lot on that fancy night cream. But it’s important to follow these guidelines. Our skin has its own internal clock that shows the best times to use products for maximum benefits. How do you adjust your skincare routine to align with this timing for beautiful, glowing skin?

What should your morning skincare routine be?

Morning is important for your skin because it protects it from factors such as pollution, ultraviolet rays, and oxidative stress. These factors can harm your skin. That’s why your morning routine should focus on strengthening your skin’s barrier.

Antioxidants, such as vitamin C, are beneficial during this time. Research from Harvard Health shows that vitamin C can neutralise free radicals caused by sun exposure, helping reduce potential damage. However, using sunscreen is important. A study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology shows that applying sunscreen daily can prevent skin ageing, pigmentation, and even skin cancer. “A lightweight moisturiser that helps the skin barrier can also be a great addition to your daytime routine. It is important to create a protective barrier that lasts throughout the day,” cosmetic dermatologist Dr Rinky Kapoor tells Health Shots.

The sun’s rays can still reach you on cloudy days. Due to this, you should always wear sunscreen, even when it’s overcast.

Why does my skin get oily in the afternoon?

As the afternoon sun shines brightly, your skin absorbs not only UV rays but also dirt and pollutants. By mid-afternoon, your skin feels greasier. This is due to the buildup of sebum, sweat, and environmental debris, which can worsen skin conditions such as acne or rosacea.

Reapplying sunscreen is very important. If you think putting it on once in the morning is enough, think again! Doctors recommend reapplying sunscreen every two hours, especially when you’re in direct sunlight. “In addition to sunscreen, calming ingredients like niacinamide can help reduce inflammation caused by environmental stress,” says the dermatologist. This can lower redness and control oil production, helping you maintain a balanced, fresh complexion throughout the day.

Consider using a heavier cream at night to provide extra nourishment while your skin rejuvenates during sleep. Image Courtesy: Adobe Stock.

What happens to your skin during the night?

At night, your skin undergoes significant changes. This is when your skin repairs and regenerates itself the most. Research published in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology indicates that your skin’s natural repair processes are most effective at night. DNA repair accelerates, new cells are produced more quickly, and barrier recovery occurs efficiently.

Evening is the best time to use treatment products. Retinoids and exfoliants such as AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) and BHAs (beta-hydroxy acids) are effective in nighttime skincare routines. “These ingredients help boost collagen production, improve skin texture, and support skin renewal over time. However, be patient; when you first start using retinoids, they can irritate your skin and make it more sensitive to sunlight,” says Dr Kapoor. That’s why it is better to apply them at night when your skin is less exposed to environmental stress.

As the night goes on, your skin loses more moisture and becomes more prone to dryness. “Using a rich moisturiser or barrier cream during this time can help restore hydration and support recovery”, says the doctor.

Why timing matters in dermatology?

Timing is important for good clinical outcomes. Research in Biomedicine and Pharmacotherapy shows that wound healing, barrier recovery, and inflammation follow natural biological rhythms. “For example, if you time your post-procedure care, such as after chemical peels, laser treatments, or microneedling, to these natural repair periods, it can improve healing and reduce irritation”, says the expert. You need to think about both which products you use and when you use them.

What helps to maintain healthy skin?

Your skin has an internal clock that is important for maintaining healthy skin. To support this, protecting your skin during the day and nourishing it at night helps your skincare work in sync with your body’s natural rhythms. “Creating a skincare routine that aligns with your skin’s natural rhythms can make your products work better and promote healthier skin over time”, shares Dr Kapoor. So, when you apply your night cream or wash your face after a long day, you are participating in a careful interplay with your skin’s internal clock.

Desi Raga Announces Global Expansion of Ayurvedic Luxury Skincare

Desi Raga Announces Global Expansion of Ayurvedic Luxury Skincare

Desi Raga Expands its Reach to the Global Market

Desi Raga, an Ayurvedic skincare brand that blends the traditional wisdom of India with modern luxury, has officially announced the expansion of its product offerings to a global market. Founded by Suma Rao and Chandni Gupta, the brand focuses on offering skincare solutions that are not only ethically sourced but also meticulously crafted using the finest natural ingredients from their native habitats across India. This global expansion marks a significant milestone for the company as it seeks to reach a wider audience with its high-quality, sustainable, and organic products.

The company’s unique approach to skincare lies in its dedication to sourcing each ingredient from the exact region where it thrives naturally, ensuring maximum potency and effectiveness. By embracing Indian Ayurvedic principles, Desi Raga has distinguished itself in a crowded beauty market by creating products that deliver results without relying on synthetic chemicals, preservatives, or harmful fillers.

The Rise of Desi Raga: A Global Skincare Journey

The inception of Desi Raga stemmed from the founders’ desire to bring the ancient beauty secrets of their Indian heritage into the modern skincare world. For Suma Rao and Chandni Gupta, the creation of the brand was driven by a deep respect for the Ayurvedic wisdom passed down through generations of women in their families, who maintained flawless complexions using kitchen-crafted remedies. With a vision to bridge the gap between these time-honored practices and modern luxury skincare, Desi Raga was born.

“Our mission was clear,” said Suma Rao, Co-Founder of Desi Raga. “We wanted to prove that it’s possible to combine the purity of home remedies with the sophistication of luxury skincare products. We believe that luxury isn’t about flashy packaging or exorbitant prices—it’s about what’s inside.”

Commitment to Ethical Sourcing and Sustainability

Desi Raga has built its reputation on the principle of “purity from the source,” ensuring that all of its ingredients are sourced ethically from their natural habitats across India. The company places a strong emphasis on sustainability, producing products in small batches to ensure freshness and potency while minimizing waste.

“We take pride in knowing that every ingredient in our products is sourced from the environment it was meant to thrive in,” shared Chandni Gupta, Co-Founder. “Whether it’s sandalwood from the South or specific Himalayan botanicals, the climate and soil conditions where these ingredients grow are integral to their therapeutic benefits.”

In line with its commitment to sustainability, Desi Raga avoids the use of palm oil, mineral oils, synthetic fragrances, and artificial colors—common fillers used by many other brands. The brand’s clean label approach makes it stand out in an industry increasingly dominated by greenwashing and misleading claims.

A New Era of Skinimalism

Desi Raga’s range of products is a testament to the growing trend of skinimalism—a movement that emphasizes simpler, more effective skincare routines. The brand’s curated collection of handcrafted soaps, therapeutic face care, and enhancing essentials focuses on treating specific skin concerns such as pigmentation, fine lines, and dryness, all with natural ingredients that nourish, rather than mask, the skin.

The brand’s flagship products include a multi-functional face wash that replaces the need for multiple cleansers, as well as serums and creams that work together to hydrate and balance the skin. Additionally, their lip balms and kajals offer both cosmetic and therapeutic benefits, keeping the skin healthy while enhancing natural beauty.

The Desi Raga Vision: A Symphony of Wellness and Luxury

Desi Raga’s vision extends beyond skincare; it is about creating a ritual—a daily symphony of wellness and self-care. The brand’s name, derived from the concept of “raga,” which symbolizes melody and rhythm in Indian classical music, reflects this holistic approach. Suma and Chandni envision their brand as a harmonious fusion of ancient Ayurvedic wisdom and contemporary luxury, where skincare becomes a therapeutic ritual rather than just a cosmetic necessity.

With a growing loyal customer base worldwide—from New York to Sydney—Desi Raga’s products are now available in select international markets. The expansion is part of the brand’s broader strategy to bring authentic Indian Ayurvedic beauty to a global audience, offering natural skincare solutions that resonate with those who seek purity, luxury, and efficacy.

About Desi Raga

The Bridal Glow Shift: Why Full-Body Skincare Is The New Pre-Wedding Essential | Beauty News

Celebrity Skincare In 2025: Why Home Remedies Are Back In The Spotlight | Beauty News

Last Updated:December 16, 2025, 11:42 IST

The skincare spotlight is shifting away from overcrowded bathroom shelves and to something far more familiar: traditional home remedies that have stood the test of time.

Turmeric and besan are used for gentle cleansing and glowing skin.

In 2025, celebrity skincare is undergoing a quiet but meaningful shift. Glossy, multi-step routines packed with actives are making space for something far more intuitive: ingredient-led care rooted in simplicity. As conversations around skin barrier health, sustainability, and over-processing grow louder, many celebrities are choosing to pare back and return to time-tested rituals.

Among the many celebrities, Rakul Preet Singh stands firmly at the forefront of this movement. Known for her disciplined fitness lifestyle and consistently radiant skin, the actor credits her glow not to excess, but to familiar kitchen staples that nourish the skin gently and effectively. This renewed interest is not about nostalgia but about intention. Food-grade ingredients, minimal processing, and seasonal care are now being recognised as powerful tools for maintaining skin balance. Celebrities across industries have openly spoken about turning to kitchen staples to restore hydration, calm irritation, and support a natural glow.

Why Traditional Ingredients Are Gaining Credibility

According to holistic beauty expert and aromatherapy pioneer Dr. Blossom Kochhar, this return to basics is a necessary recalibration rather than a fleeting trend. “Our grandmothers relied on food-grade ingredients for skincare because they are fresh, effective, and free from unnecessary chemicals. When used correctly, they work beautifully with the skin’s natural rhythm,” she explains. As consumers become more ingredient-literate, the appeal of simple, recognisable components continues to grow.

Banana, Honey, And The Art Of Skin Nourishment

Among the many natural remedies resurfacing in celebrity routines, banana-based face masks have gained particular attention for their hydrating properties. Rakul has often spoken about using banana, honey, and natural oils to combat dryness and fatigue caused by long shooting schedules. A ripe banana mashed with a teaspoon of vegetable oil and honey forms a deeply nourishing mask that improves elasticity and restores softness when used weekly.

Other celebrities, especially those balancing outdoor shoots and frequent travel, have also shared their preference for hydration-led masks that feed the skin rather than stimulate it aggressively.

Winter Skincare And Probiotic Masks

Seasonal skincare has become a key focus in 2025, with winter demanding extra attention. Yoghurt-based face masks, which are blended with honey, milk powder, and small amounts of banana, are increasingly favoured for their probiotic and moisture-binding benefits. “This recipe works beautifully because it combines probiotics, natural humectants, and gentle nourishment,” says Dr. Kochhar. Used once a week, it helps counter dryness caused by cold air and indoor heating.

Cleansing Without Compromising The Skin Barrier

Cleansing and exfoliation, often overdone in modern routines, are being reimagined through gentler practices. Traditional besan-based scrubs made with multani mitti and sandalwood powder are making a return for their ability to cleanse without stripping natural oils. Used mindfully, they help improve circulation and keep pores clear. Instead of daily soaps, Dr. Kochhar recommends gram flour mixed with milk or rice water. “This method cleanses the skin while maintaining its pH balance, making it especially suitable for sensitive or acne-prone skin,” she notes.

Brightening, Moderation, And Lesser-Known Rituals

Turmeric remains a popular choice for brightening, but restraint is essential. A balanced paste using a pinch of turmeric, milk powder, lemon juice and honey can improve skin tone when used occasionally. “Turmeric is powerful, but it must be used in the right proportion to avoid irritation,” advises Dr. Kochhar.

Another lesser-known remedy involves black and white cumin seeds ground with fresh cream, applied twice a week to soothe the skin and improve texture.

Celebrity skincare in 2025 reflects a broader cultural shift towards restraint, awareness and respect for the skin’s natural processes. By embracing home remedies rooted in tradition and supported by expert insight, beauty routines are becoming more mindful and sustainable. In an age of endless innovation, the most enduring skincare philosophy may simply be about returning to what has always worked – consistently, gently, and with intention.

Blurred Lips Are The Cool-Girl Makeup Trend To Try This Winter

Blurred Lips Are The Cool-Girl Makeup Trend To Try This Winter

In recent weeks the look has gone viral on TikTok and Instagram, with makeup artists and creators trying to copy it. As makeup artist Tanielle Jai previously told Glamour, kissable lips are one of the biggest beauty trends to watch especially heading into 2026, with semi-matte balms popular among brands like Chanel Beauty, Violette_Fr, Saie and Louis Vuitton Beautè.

“I think we’ll be seeing less emphasis on defined lip liner and more of that ‘bitten lip’ look inspired by Korean and French beauty trends,” Tanielle says. “It’s a soft, blurred, just-kissed, lived-in matte style that feels effortless.”

Park has kept light-lipped about her method, but creator Ivan Lam recently shared a Park-inspired tutorial on how to get the blurred-lip look. “It always has the signature Nina Park touch,” Lam says in the video. “It looks like your natural self but better, which I really love right now.”

First, Lam starts by prepping the lips with the Prada Beauty Hydrating Lip Balm, letting it sit on skin to hydrate. Next, he takes a cool-tone lip liner from Make Up for Ever and overlines the cupids bow. To get that signature blurred look, he uses a smudging brush to diffuse the colour.

“What [Park] kind of does is smudge it out so it’s never a solid line,” Lam says. Then, he layers it with a rosy liner from Makeup by Mario to add back some definition and colour. Lastly, he tops things off with the Nooni Hydrating & Plumping Lip Oil in a rosy pink colour, to “give life back” into the lips, tapping the product on with his finger.

“The liners are really cool toned, which is why I think the makeup looks so good,” Lam says. “It’s a mixture of cool tone and warm tones.” In the comments, Park gave her seal of approval: “In love with this,” she wrote.

Unusual Skincare Trends Of 2025: What Dermatologists Approve And What They Warn Against | Beauty News

Unusual Skincare Trends Of 2025: What Dermatologists Approve And What They Warn Against | Beauty News

Last Updated:December 15, 2025, 15:42 IST

From using menstrual blood as a mask to the rise of microbiome-friendly skincare, beauty in 2025 got more experimental. However, not every viral trend is meant for your skin.

Experts advise evidence-based routines over risky shortcuts for lasting skin health.

Skincare in 2025 is more experimental than ever, shaped by social media virality, tech innovation, and growing interest in wellness-led beauty. While some trends reflect genuine scientific progress, others blur the line between curiosity and risk. Dermatologists caution that healthy skin is not built through shortcuts or shock-value routines but through understanding what your skin truly needs. As unusual practices gain traction online, experts stress the importance of separating evidence-backed innovation from potentially harmful experimentation.

Viral Skincare Trends Of 2025 That Miss The Mark

Addressing the surge of extreme skincare experiments, Dr Smriti Naswa Singh, Consultant Dermatologist and Cosmetologist at Fortis Hospital, Mulund, notes, “Not every skincare trend you see online is meant for your skin. Good skin comes from understanding your skin’s needs, not chasing instant results.”

One of the most controversial trends this year has been the so-called menstrual or period blood mask. Dr Singh firmly dismisses the practice. She explains, “There is no scientific basis for applying menstrual blood to the skin, and since it is not sterilised, it can cause irritation or infection , especially in sensitive skin types.”

Another viral hack involves using personal lubricant as a makeup primer. While it may create a temporarily smooth appearance, Dr Singh warns that “these products are not formulated for facial skin. Their ingredients can clog pores, trigger breakouts, and cause long-term discomfort.”

The Problem With Shortcut Glow Treatments

Injectable and in-clinic trends have also raised concerns. IV glutathione, often marketed as a fast track to brighter skin, continues to trend despite limited necessity for most users.

Dr Singh notes, “Real glow does not come from injections. Healthy skin builds slowly with sun protection, nourishing food, proper sleep, and a routine suited to your skin.” She cautions that unnecessary IV treatments, when taken without medical supervision, can do more harm than good.

Similarly, placenta facials promise rejuvenation but lack strong scientific evidence. Dr Singh adds that such treatments can sometimes trigger allergies or irritation, particularly in reactive skin. Candle-based moisturisers, another unusual trend, may benefit extremely dry skin but risk worsening acne or oiliness due to their heavy texture.

Skincare Trends Of 2025 That Reflect A Smarter Shift

Not all 2025 skincare trends are questionable. Dr Kusumika Kanak, Consultant Dermatologist at Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital, Pune, highlights the rise of microbiome-friendly skincare. “These products support the skin’s good bacteria, which act as a protective shield and help maintain skin stability,” she explains. This shift has encouraged milder cleansers and barrier-supportive formulations over harsh actives.

Technology is also playing a larger role. “Skin-mapping tools and apps are helping people detect early signs of dehydration, inflammation, or damage,” Dr Kanak notes, allowing users to better understand redness, pores, and fine lines instead of guessing their skincare needs.

Blue Light, Stress, And Sustainability

As screen time continues to rise, blue light defence skincare has gained relevance. Dr Kanak explains that antioxidants are now being used to reduce oxidative stress caused by prolonged digital exposure, which may accelerate skin ageing.

Emerging interest in neurocosmetics reflects a growing link between emotional wellness and skin health. These products aim to reduce stress-related symptoms such as dullness or redness by interacting with nerve endings. While the science is still evolving, Dr Kanak says the concept resonates with consumers seeking holistic solutions.

Environmental consciousness is also shaping choices. Waterless skincare, such as solid cleansers, balms, and concentrated serums, has gained popularity due to lower environmental impact and gentler formulations that require fewer preservatives.

Skincare trends in 2025 reveal a clear divide between science-led innovation and viral experimentation. While advancements in microbiome care, technology, and sustainability show promise, extreme DIY hacks and shortcut treatments carry real risks. Dermatologists agree that consistent routines, professional guidance, and patience remain the foundation of healthy skin – far more effective than chasing the next viral trend.

A Dermatologist Explains Why “Doing Less” Might Be The Most Effective Skincare Trend Today | Health and Fitness News

A Dermatologist Explains Why “Doing Less” Might Be The Most Effective Skincare Trend Today | Health and Fitness News

Last Updated:December 14, 2025, 15:43 IST

Is skin fasting just a viral trend or a dermatologist-approved reset? An expert explains how simplifying skincare can repair the skin barrier and restore balance.

A dermatologist-backed look at skin fasting and why simplifying your skincare routine may help restore the skin barrier and improve overall skin health.

Skin fasting refers to temporarily stopping most skincare products for a short period and allowing the skin to regulate and repair itself naturally. The idea is simple: stop overloading the skin, let it breathe, and allow its own repair mechanisms to take charge. But as the concept gains traction online, one question remains is skin fasting just another viral trend promising quick, flawless skin, or does it hold real dermatological value?

“Skin fasting is more relevant today than it has ever been,” says Dr Ridhima Arora, MBBS, MD (Dermatology & VD), Malik Radix Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. “The current beauty landscape is like a jungle of products, and consumers are often lost in it.” She explains that people are routinely layering retinol, vitamin C, exfoliating acids, niacinamide, peptides, and other ‘actives’ often without understanding compatibility or long-term consequences.

According to Dr Arora, this ‘more is better’ approach has led to a silent but widespread issue: skin barrier damage.

“The skin barrier functions like a fortress, it retains moisture and keeps irritants out,” she explains. “When it is repeatedly exposed to multiple active ingredients without adequate recovery time, the barrier becomes compromised.” The result, she notes, is a familiar list of concerns: dullness, breakouts, redness, hypersensitivity, and stinging even with the most basic products.

“These are not signs that skincare itself is harmful,” Dr Arora clarifies. “They are signs that the skin has become overwhelmed and vulnerable.”

How Skin Fasting Helps Repair the Barrier

Skin fasting, when done correctly, allows the skin to reset. “By simplifying the routine, you give the skin barrier the freedom to heal itself,” says Dr Arora. However, she cautions against extreme approaches.

“In my clinical practice, I’ve seen that patients respond best to a gradual, controlled method rather than abruptly stopping everything,” she says. Dr Arora recommends limiting skincare for two to three days to just three essentials: a mild cleanser, a simple moisturiser, and sunscreen.

“During this period, avoid serums, exfoliants, and active treatments,” she advises. “In many cases, the skin appears calmer, less inflamed, and more balanced within just a few days.”

Reintroducing Actives Slowly and Safely

Once the skin feels settled, Dr Arora suggests reintroducing actives with caution. “Bring back only one product at a time, and wait at least two weeks before adding another,” she says. This approach not only helps identify what truly works for your skin but also prevents unnecessary irritation and setbacks.

The Takeaway: Moderation Over Excess

“Skin fasting doesn’t mean throwing away all your skincare products,” Dr Ridhima Arora emphasises. “It’s about moderation understanding that sometimes restraint leads to healthier skin.”

In a world of complex routines and constant new launches, the message is refreshingly simple. As Dr Arora concludes, “As paradoxical as it sounds, sometimes less really is more. Your skin needs it.”

The SIX skincare tips to get rid of 'Christmas face' this winter, according to experts

The SIX skincare tips to get rid of ‘Christmas face’ this winter, according to experts

THE festive season is a time of indulgence – from mince pies and festive cocktails to endless turkey sandwiches.

While these treats bring joy, they can take a toll on your skin, leaving it looking tired, dull, and acne-prone.

Dr. Vanita Rattan on how to keep your skin glowing over the holidays

Dermatologists and skincare experts are calling this phenomenon “Christmas Face.”

Global skin doctor and founder of skincare line Dr. Vanita Rattan explains that late nights, overindulgence in alcohol and sugary foods, and disrupted routines are the main culprits behind the seasonal skin slump.

She shares six key habits to watch out for and how to keep your skin glowing throughout the holidays.

1. Alcohol

Alcohol is one of the fastest ways to dehydrate your skin because it’s a diuretic, increasing urine production and causing the body to lose more fluids than it takes in.

HAIR-RIFIC

I showed off my hair growth journey but got trolled for the before pic

As a diuretic, it increases fluid loss, leaving skin dry, flaky, and rough.

Fine lines and wrinkles can also appear more pronounced.

Alcohol depletes essential nutrients needed for skin repair, slowing down cell regeneration.

To combat this, Dr Rattan recommends using a ceramide- and peptide-rich moisturiser, such as a CeraPep cream, to boost hydration, improve texture, and strengthen the skin barrier.

2. Sugary treats

Christmas indulgences like roast dinners and sweet treats are high in saturated fats, which can disrupt gut bacteria and trigger inflammation.

This often leads to excess sebum production, clogged pores, and acne breakouts.

According to Dr. Rattan, cleansing twice daily with a blemish-controlling cleanser and following with a PM Gel Moisturizer containing glycerin to hydrate, niacinamide to control sebum, and salicylic acid to unclog pores can help.

Dr Rattan said: “It’s important to remember that achieving clearer skin isn’t just about avoiding certain foods.

“It’s about maintaining a solid skincare routine to combat inflammation which can lead to acne.”

3. Late nights

Sleep is crucial for skin repair. During rest, skin regenerates and recovers, helping your complexion look refreshed.

Lack of sleep leaves skin stressed, inflamed, and prone to breakouts.

Late nights and binge-drinking not only leave you feeling tired and hungover, but also make your skin look tired.

Prioritise getting 8-9 hours of sleep during the festive season
to keep your skin radiant and healthy.

4. Sleeping in makeup

It may be tempting to skip your nighttime routine after a long night out, but leaving makeup on can penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, preventing hydration and causing dryness and irritation.

Eye makeup can clog follicles, increasing the risk of infection.

Dr. Rattan recommends using a non-comedogenic, oil-melting cleanser to remove makeup gently without irritating the skin.

5. Dehydration

Hydration starts from within, and it’s easy to forget to drink enough water amid festive celebrations.

Proper hydration keeps skin plump and glowing.

According to Dr. Rattan, including water-rich snacks such as cucumbers, watermelon, and celery in your Christmas menu helps, as does sparkling water or herbal teas as an enjoyable alternative to sugary drinks.

6. Winter weather

Cold winter temperatures, combined with dry indoor heating, can strip the skin of natural oils, causing dryness, flakiness, and sensitivity.

Dr. Rattan advises protecting your skin with warm clothing like scarves, applying a barrier cream to lock in moisture, and using broad-spectrum SPF50++++ year-round to prevent UV-related damage.

With these six expert tips, it’s possible to keep your skin healthy and radiant – even through the indulgences and celebrations of the festive season.

Skincare expert shares 5 tips for perfect skin this winter

Skincare expert shares 5 tips for perfect skin this winter

As the colder months creep up on us, the temperature change can wreak havoc on our bodies and make it difficult for us to look and feel our best.

This is why specialist skincare pharmacist Yasar Hussain has warned that the drop in temperature and lower humidity, paired with harsh winds, can be abrasive on our skin.

For example, these conditions can cause damage to capillary beds in the skin, leading to redness and sensitivity.

Skincare expert warns against skin damage over the winter

Discussing the challenges winter poses for our skin, Mr Hussain from prescription dermatology service MiQuest said: “Winter can be a challenging time for our skin, and it will have different needs in the colder, darker months than it does at other times of the year.

“The combination of cold, wet air our skin is exposed to outdoors, and the warm, dry air of indoor central heating can certainly leave it looking and feeling less than its best.

“The so-called winter uglies are a very real experience for many people at this time of year, but thankfully, there are a number of easy and effective ways to tackle them.

“It’s vital to keep skin properly hydrated through winter, which you can do through applying moisturiser each day, eating healthy fats, avoiding dehydrating caffeine and alcohol and drinking plenty of water.

“Another tip is to avoid hot showers, which can strip the skin’s barrier of its natural oils, and protect your skin from the harsh weather as much as possible by covering up key areas such as your face, neck and hands where possible.

“Being aware of the different challenges your skin faces at this time of year and how to avoid them can go a long way.”

Skincare expert shares 5 things you need to do if you want perfect skin this winter

Here are his top five skincare tips to help your skin look its best this winter.

Keep your skin moisturised

Colder temperatures and a drop in air humidity, as well as warm, dry air indoors, can disrupt the skin barrier and make it harder to keep moisture locked in.

This is why it is important to ensure your skin is protected against moisture loss, which can lead to issues like dry, itchy and dull skin.

An easy way is to ensure you are drinking enough water, or make changes to your skincare routine, such as adopting a moisturising cleanser or a richer moisturiser.

Avoid harsh chemicals

Our skin produces its own natural oils, such as sebum, to moisturise and protect itself, but harsh chemicals in creams, oils and other skincare products can strip these away.

In winter, it’s better to switch to more natural cleansers and moisturisers with fewer chemicals, alcohols and fragrances.

Instead, opt for products high in organic ingredients such as shea butter, cocoa butter, peptides and aloe vera.

Wrap up for the weather

British wintertime is often not for the faint of heart, and powerful storms, driving rain and gale force winds can all take their toll on our skin.

Keep key areas such as the face, neck and hands covered up while outdoors to protect against windburn or irritation.

A good lip balm is also a useful weapon to keep dry, cracked skin at bay.

Avoid hot showers

Many people enjoy a hot shower in winter, but it can cause disruption to the skin’s barrier and strip it of much-needed moisture.

While taking a hot shower every so often won’t wreak havoc on your skin, too many hot showers can gradually strip away the natural oils, weaken the barrier and increase transepidermal water loss.

Instead, it’s better to keep the temperature at a moderate level and not spend too much time exposed to hot water.

Tweak your diet

What we eat and drink plays a vital role in keeping our skin at its best, and healthy fats can play a huge role in maintaining our skin barrier and locking in moisture.

They can be found in a range of food items, including avocado, oily fish such as salmon, tuna and mackerel, nuts and seeds.

Meanwhile, other skin-friendly nutrients are worth getting into your diet, including vitamin A, found in spinach, vitamin C, found in citrus fruits, and zinc, which is found in beef, poultry and shellfish.
